Heather promptly called me back the next morning (while I was driving there) and let me know that while guided tours are usually booked two to three days in advance for about 10-12 people, that she would not mind showing us around the museum. I really appreciate the time she took to return my message and to explain everything. When we got there, you need to take a careful look at the parking signs right in front. It almost looks like there is no parking in front of the museum (on from 7-7PM. But if you look closer, the signs say no parking from 7-9AM and 4-6PM. The museum is open from 10AM-4PM, so feel free to pull in. One of the firefighters doing a Fire Safety session was tipped off that two more parties were coming, so he went outside to wait, and asked if we were here for Fire Safety. He then graciously said he would wait for us before starting the presentation. That was awesome. The firefighters gave a very informative and kid-friendly presentation, first demonstrating how they put on their firefighting gear. Then they showed the kids how to stop, drop, and roll (while asking some of the kids to do it with them) and gave important safety tips to kids in case of a fire. #1, make sure you don't hide from a firefighter! They gave all the kids a jr. firefighter helmet and an air mask to play with, and then they gave them a jr. firefighter sticker for keeps. They were also hanging around to answer our (parents' ) questions. Your children will love the fire engine and the house in the back room, and of course the toy section of the store. However, my son also enjoyed looking at the old fire engines on display (one was circa 1937), but my kids ran through the rest of the museum pretty quickly, since it was mostly history. Upstairs they have a tribute to all the Houston firefighters who have sacrificed their lives, and then there are lockers full of memorabilia dating back to the 1890's. Really great museum to visit, but it only took about 1 hr. 45 minutes. Plan on checking out this museum and then go grab an early lunch!

Parking at the Centennial Gardens is a lifesaver, just a brisk walk, 15 or so minutes. The zoo itself is so engaging and currently expanding: there's going to be a rhino viewing area that's set to be finished by 2027. The only real villain of the day was the weather. When it wasn't intensely humid, it was raining like God was trying to power wash away our sins.

The new sealion exhibit is very nice as you can get a great view of them glide over you. The giant river otters with their crazy antics sliding on the small creek inside their river display. The handler had a family emergency and they don't plan for contingencies. If I book an organization for a large party, I expect them to be reliable. The manager didn't even call me to inform me that the party was cancelled. I had a scared kid calling me. It's beyond unprofessional. Absolutely do not book with them.

We watched Jurassic World 2 nights ago to be prepared and the experience largely follows that movie. You're one of the visitors to Isla Nublar and you get a VIP tour that also includes seeing the hatching room and petting baby dinosaurs - namely a parasaurolophus and ankylosaurus (Bumpy). You also see the raptor cage and even sneak past a T-Rex! No Pterosaurs though. We heard there's a chance of jump scares courtesy of Blue, BUT that didn't happen on our tour. I assume it's because our group had a lot of young kids. A bummer (we prepared our kids for any possible ones, but it didn't happen). There is a human in the Blue costume. I felt that part was fairly tame - the fog machine helped set the scene but it was still PG. Maybe even G. Overall, it was pretty fun! For about $20 per person including the discount, it wasn't bad because the animatronics were pretty impressive. Family friendly, though one kid (maybe aged 7-8?) was scared with the T-Rex. Videos and cameras are allowed, just no flash. You get many photo opportunities throughout, staff will help you with photos, and you have a chance to buy the ones you take at the beginning. They have a gift shop where most of the things are overpriced (shirts, plushies). I grabbed a magnet and some postcards. I was also tempted with the posters. The biggest thing is they clearly favor certain dinosaurs over others. My daughter's favorite is stygimoloch but other than him appearing in the tour, he had no merchandise. On the plus side, I didn't fork over $30 for a Stygi plushie or shirt. I also wish there was a jump scare to make it feel completely worth it, but it was still great fun - especially for dinosaur lovers! Got home a few hours later and my 3 year old kept on saying how the dinosaurs were fun. Expect to spend no more than an hour there though.

The day of the event, I had been struggling for a couple hours trying to put up a tent to ensure adequate shade coverage for the guests. During a phone call before he was scheduled to arrive, he could hear the "Mommy paranoia" in my voice. I explained the issue I was having with the tent. He showed up an hour earlier than expected and rescued me from the tent! I thought I needed multiple people to get it up, nope, just him. He assembled and had the tent up in 30 minutes! He's seriously a one-man show!! To say I was overjoyed, is an understatement!!! He even got on a ladder and cut limbs off of a tree, so they wouldn't damage the tent covering due to wind. Had I known, I would've rented a tent from him, but I didn't ask if one was available. He and his wife offer a wide variety of services to accommodate your event needs, so don't forget to fully checkout their site or ask questions. I rented a beautiful bounce house, four tables, and 25 chairs. The deposit and total cost were minimal for the service I received. He set up early and allowed us extra time at the end for pick up! I will be a customer for life!! He is professional, friendly, courteous, and without a doubt, my go to guy for any future events I or my family will have in the area.
