This review is for the Pediatric Dentistry of Flushing at 135-14 Jewel Avenue. Our visit was in April 2026. It is genuinely hard to put into words the disbelief I felt during our visit to this practice. While we chose this office because they accept 1199SEIU insurance, the experience was a profound disappointment. As a healthcare worker myself, I hold medical environments to a high standard of safety and professionalism, and what we encountered fell dangerously short of that. The issues first began at the entrance, which is cramped and ill-equipped for anyone with a stroller, requiring a difficult maneuver through two doors with almost no clearance. Ironically the practice sent an excessive number of automated reminders strictly demanding that we check in early and not be late, yet we weren't seen until 30 minutes after our scheduled time. The atmosphere of the office is notably non-secular; with multiple Torahs displayed on a console table in the waiting room, it appears the practice specifically caters to the local Jewish population. The environment felt quite chaotic, with large groups of children from other families wandering in and out of the exam hallways unchecked. The space itself is essentially one long hallway lined with plastic chairs, not at all warm or inviting for children, with no toys provided. A television mounted in the corner with a poor-quality screen was the only thing available to keep our son occupied. When we were finally called back, I was met with absolute shock. We were led into an exam room that was an active construction site, featuring exposed raw drywall, cement boards underfoot, metal mesh on the floor, and a tarp in the corner covering debris. There wasn't even a door or a curtain for basic privacy. From a clinical standpoint, this is an unacceptable infectious and respiratory hazard. Raw drywall and construction dust are not sanitary environments for dental work, where microscopic bacteria are regularly aerosolized. As someone with a sensitive respiratory system, the dust in the air caused me immediate distress. We couldn't even allow our toddler to move around because the flooring was so unsteady and dangerous. Not to mention a ginormous exposed crack in the wall that spanned from floor to ceiling. What I find most disappointing was the total lack of transparency. Not once did a staff member acknowledge the state of the room, offer an apology for the conditions, or even provide a mask for the dust. The lack of basic decency to acknowledge these conditions speaks volumes about the practice's priorities. It's clear they would rather maximize profit by seeing patients in a literal construction zone than close the room until it is safe and sterile. They couldn't wait until the room's walls and floors were at least finished? Absolutely ridiculous. While the hygienist was pleasant enough and successfully cleaned our son's teeth, the doctor's approach was frustrating. We specifically requested Dr. Kim over the phone based on her glowing reviews but were given Dr. Weinberg with no communication. She spent less than 5 minutes with us and relied on forced familiarity, using a patronizing nickname for our son rather than his actual name. This attempt to appear approachable felt like a performative tactic intended to ignore the hazard we were sitting in, and it completely failed to soothe our distressed toddler. What should have been a positive first dental milestone for our son was instead a stressful, unpleasant, and unsanitary experience. We drove a long way to come here because they accepted our insurance, but we are now looking for a new dentist. I would rather pay out-of-pocket than return to a practice that views these conditions as acceptable for patient care. It is utterly disrespectful and shows no care for human health and safety which should be paramount as a pediatric dental practice. Subjecting children as young as 12 months old, toddlers under the age of two, to these types of conditions is absolutely indefensible. read more

My daughter (4 years old) came here for a cavity filling. I think I was more nervous than her!! The dentist Dr. Kim was so friendly, and wasnt scary at all. My daughter didnt even know she got a shot in her mouth. The dentist was so fast and good that I didnt even know the shot was given. They are prepared with a phone for the little ones to watch a show and be distracted and it really does work. My daughter was in and out in probably 15 minutes. The only part I didnt like is that there are no small sinks by the patients' chair so they can rinse and spit. There is a communal sink however that i believe is shared for every 2 rooms. Been bringing my 3 children here since 2022 and we've always had positive experiences. The premises are neat and clean and the service is friendly and efficient. Best part is they offer weekend hours!! I'm so grateful for that kind of flexibility; I also appreciate how willing they are to answer questions and quick to refer/defer to other experts when necessary such as oral surgeons/orthodontists. The treatment areas are pretty tight space-wise, but designed effectively and nicely decorated. Another plus is we never have a hard time finding parking nearby. read more

My 2 kids love going to the dentist. Dr. Angie kim is wonderful. She's very patient and connects with the kids very well. She explains everything and does everything ethically. My daughter had a cavity on her tooth, and she told us she wouldn't recommend filling it because that tooth is probably going to fall out in a year. I am always notified beforehand how much I would have to pay before things are done. The clinic could use an upgrade bc it looks a little rundown, but we don't really mind. The kids always get a goodie bag after every visit. The wait is usually not bad probably 15-20 min at most. read more

I can't say enough positive things about my experience. My 4 year old daughter woke up crying in pain and her original dentist office wasn't picking up. I started calling around to different places and this office was the only office willing to see my child. Janice was sooo nice & helpful from the initial phone call and also once we got to the office. even with my daughter not being a prior patient, there barely was a wait, they did her X-rays and got right on things. Dr.Kim was an angel, she was prompt, she made sure she explained everything and always asked if I was comfortable with what she was doing before she proceeded. The rest of the staff was wonderful as well! thank you to Janice, dr.Kim but also Jennifer, liliana, and Vanessa who had to help hold my daughter down to extract two teeth, they were all saying positive things while my baby was going thru that assuring her she was doing a great job. I'm very torn with writing this rating. As far as the dentist is concerned I have never had an issue. Everything usually runs smoothly. No long waits. Friendly staff. And most importantly, a child who doesn't fight with me when she has an appointment. That was all until we were told to go upstairs to the orthodontist for a consultation. I've called to make an appointment for my child who is a cancer survivor and PTSD. I've asked about their most gentle and patient dentist and they've recommended Dr. Dara. I've made the appointment and prepared my child for it. When coming to the clinic on time the check-in staff member said: "You know that Dr. Dara is not working today". I was shocked! No phone call to cancel the appointment from their office, nothing! They've waisted our time and travel money, let's not even talk about how my child felt in this situation!!! I am writing this review as I sit here and am waiting to be seen with my 3 kids. 3:45 appt, we were on time. It's now 4:30 and we are STILL waiting. No one tells you anything about how the schedule is running, you have to go and ask how long it will be. And then they bs and tell you, "you're next." Crazy long wait, this will be my last visit here and until all these either patients waiting with me wise up and do the same by leaving, nothing will change. They overbook always and it's totally normal to have to wait for an hour and a half until you are seen. Not really sure how they are in business. Do not make the mistake of coming here. I must first say that in 2012 I wrote a negative comment on Dr. Jacobson's staff member and over some work my daughter had done. When I called and expressed my feelings I was welcomed to their office to get the issue resolved. It took me at least two other dentists before I found Dr. Jacobson, but the wait was worth it all. Last year, or in 2011, my son was missing his two front teeth; no other dentist was able to assure me that his teeth will soon come out. All they kept telling me was "soon, I don't know". When I went to Dr. Jacobson he gave me estimation and hope, and a few months later, my son's teeth were out. This simply shows how accurate Dr. Jacobson is with his work. I don't mind driving from NJ or that the wait time can be lengthy, I trust Dr. Jacobson and his staff with my kid's teeth and recommend him 100%. read more

Horrible experience! My 2 year old daughter had an appointment at 1:30 pm that they themselves scheduled for us. I got 3 confirmations in the last week for the appointment. I got an automated call, a text message and an actual person called to confirm the appointment. We live 50 minutes away from this place. At 1:17pm I get a call saying they are canceling the appointment because they decided to close early. What the heck kind of office does that! I'm 9 months pregnant and it was not easy to get to this appointment. To top it off I sat in the car and watched as they left the office from a back door. Really inconsiderate people! Dr Dara did an amazing job to my 6 years old.Even her nurse was mind blowing calm & she knows how to brainwash nervous kid ( even I do ),& make him lie down ready for work on his teeth.He tried to throw away their hands at work couple of times but finished in less than 30 mins.i was only worried little about his swollen upper lips but rest was totally easy.Dr Dara knows how to get things done so I totally recommend them.thnx ! My son was scheduled to have a baby root canal. Needless to say, we were not looking forward to the appointment. I wasn't sure who was more anxious, me or my son. Not having much positive dental experiences myself as a child, I could certainly relate. From the minute we walked in the door it felt like everyone in the office was happy to see us. We were greeted with a smile in a happy atmosphere. As we walked in, the staff instantly noticed the nervous behavior in my son. Dr. Barry Jacobson immediately spent time comforting my son by engaging him in a conversation and even took the time to perform some magic tricks. Fortunately, the procedure went smoothly and was relatively quick. If I could give a negative star/score I would - at least to Barry Jacobson himself. This is the second time I've been to his clinic for my daughter. For my first visit, I was very impressed by the asian female dentist who took care of my daughter. The female dentist promptly explained to her what she's going to do each step (even made her feel how the instrument feels on her nails) and was very gentle. She even let me seat on the chair so that my daughter can rest her feet on me. Barry Jacobson is the opposite - he's one of the worst pediatric dentist I've ever seen!!! He doesn't know how to relate to children and didn't even bother to explain to her what he's doing. He doesn't even address her at all. He just inject her gums and ignore her crying all through-out the fillings. (On our prior visit, the female dentist also did fillings on my daughter and she was so much gentler and consoled her.) After the whole ordeal, Barry Jacobson did not even bother to console her and had the nerve to tell me to bring her during week days only because she was scaring the other children! Oh my God - he shouldn't practice with children then! He is unfeeling and lacks compassion towards children! I hope he experiences what he did to my daughter with his own dentist! My child has United Health Care insurance and he needed a filling, they forced my husband to pay $160?stating that the insurance will not cover his filling because he had one in August. After I contacted the insurance company who informed me that, they cover as many fillings a patients needs. The insurance company calls the JOINT OF DENIST OFFICE up and also send them a copy of their contract that their breaching and still has the nerve to keep my husband money. I was very disappointed with this office. I'm a certifed dental assistant and could not believe the quality of care my kids received here. I had read many good reviews about the dentist doing a magic trick and such for the kids , explaining everything and making them feel very comfortable. My experience didnt go that way. I took my two kids for the first time to this office. We waited a while which was fine. My daughter who has already been to a dentist before went first and it was my sons first time. We saw a Dr. Chen who is with the practice who didnt review any health info or any concerns I had he basically just went in and started a cleaning which wasnt all that great to begin with. I could have done a better job at home. I dont even think he knew my kids names. He did not explain anything what so over to my children as to what to expect or what he was doing. I mentioned to thr Dr. that my daughter was a thumb sucker and his response to her was that she needed to stop sucking her thumb or he would have to stick her thumb to her butt. SERIOUSLY! Why would any professional say that to a new patient none the less a child. Between my two kids we were in the treatment rooms less than 10 mins which is rediculous. I had a few concerns I wanted to discuss but he just didnt seem like he wanted to be bothered it was like he just wanted to hurry up and get out. My rating for this office would be below 0 if it was possible I had to put 1 star otherwise I would not be able to post this review. The receptionist laughs at kids when they're screaming from pain, and the Asian and blond female dental hygienist, in the upstairs office, both have nasty temperaments and the inability to communicate professionally with patients. I was so mad about my last visit that I actually decided to give myself some time to cool off before I write anything on Yelp. I been to this office with both of my kids in the past and every time we showed up on time and were forced to wait for over an hour, I never made a big deal because I understood that things sometimes get crazy or emergencies come in. Now, on our last appointment we were give 5:30 appointment, for both kids and that what I have been told by receptionist on the phone and they left me voice mail about 5:30 appointment day before. Unfortunately due to unforeseen events we were late about 20 min, I run into the office with both kids, and of course there are ton of people waiting go up to the front window and the girl announces to me that we are over 40 min late because my first child was scheduled at 5pm! I was confused and I said no its 5:30, so 5:30 was the second child. Then she makes a face tells me to hand over the insurance and tells me to wait till she calls them to verify. Sure enough she has no clue what she is doing and keeps telling me that we are not covered, we had that insurance before and all we did switch policies and she kept calling the number she had when I kept insisting to call the number on the card. Eventually she verifies it, and tells me to go upstairs and get the cleaning. Run upstairs, sign in, as soon as we do that an angry hygienist flies out at me, yelling!!!that we are over an hour late and she has a wedding to attend to and the other hygienist will not stay either because she has hourly sitter. First of all it is not my fault they told me wrong time and it is also not my fault that front desk in incompetent. The hygienists just grabs her bags and leaves!!! This other "nice" girl shows up and tell us that now we wasted our time by coming we will have to reschedule the dentist will not see my kids without cleaning. Come again?! I was angry and lucky for the staff I had my kids because I had a few choice words for them. Its not like we come into empty office. If I would have stayed I would have waited well over an hour to be seen by the doctor and I assume all these people including myself were "scheduled" for the day. It was irrelevant if I came late or early because they double book I was the unlucky once they decided to boot out. They scratched my son' mouth and he was crying and afraid to do an X-ray, so one of them said that she doesn't have a patient. Yes, it DOES get crowded in the main waiting area but once that happens, they move you to another and BIGGER waiting area also filled with toys and a flat screen tv. I brought in my son about two weeks ago as an emergency appointment. My husband and I were greeted by a friendly and efficient staff. Now I say efficient because the lady in the front (Irena) was on top of everything. We then met Dr. Weiner and she was excellent with our son. She took the time to explain all of the treatment options for him and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend this place. An employee possible dentist in grey ripped up scrubs, sit at a desk behind mirror like sliding doors. Blasting country music and singing so loud! My boys have been going here for years and I have NEVER had a problem. They are thorough, communicate well about what is going on with your child's teeth and have never over charged me for any work they may have needed. My boys teeth are straight, clean and healthy. The only reason why I did not give a 5 star review is because the office staff is not as friendly, particularly when you check out and they do send constant texts about upcoming appointments. Dr. Barry L Jacobson is Great!! Love him!!! Before he treats, he shows magic tricks :) He is a very good and knowledgeable doctor. BUT, the office is disgusting. The units don't get properly cleaned after each patient, handpieces, handles, etc, are not wiped and blue protective tape probably gets changed at night or in the morning. Very antisanitary. The office is too crowded. They schedule a few patients at the same time and waiting time is ridiculous. Just for a cleaning and a check up, we were there for over 2 hours. Too many people at once. Maybe if they schedule 30-20 min per patient, there will be less waiting for a patient, less rush for hygienists and assistants, cleaner rooms and units. read more

I use to really like this dentist office. My children have been going for years. Now it has gone down hill since dr Jacobson isn't in the office anymore. My little one they told me he needed braces and it would only go on the top for teeth. They put an expanded on him to then say he needs to wait a year for braces. On top of it the tooth the expander was connected to is now breaking in pieces. I had to change my child's insurance so I asked all the insurances they accept. The woman said to pick Fedilis it's the best when it comes to paying out. I picked fedelis based on her recommendation now I come back for them to take his expander off for them to say they are no longer accept the insurance so they can't see my child anymore. I called to speak to the manager mya cause she said to call her tomorrow she never returned my call. I called again the same thing. Now the office calls to make an appointment and also say they don't take my insurance but will have Mya call me I said she is never going to call back but ok leave the message. Brought my little sister in for a check up in the morning, recommended by my friends. Didn't wait to long for after registering. Things worked quickly, my doctor, Dr. Chen was very nice and made sure my sister was comfortable and that all my and my sisters questions were answered. I have been to this practice 3 times now. I am satisfied so far. Dr. Jacobson has been easy to talk to and has addressed all of my questions and kept me well informed about my daughters "condition". My daughter had 5 baby root canals and her gums have not healed yet (performed by another doctor). Based on Dr. Jacobson's background,experience and education I belive I have made a good choice in bringing my 2 yo to him. I had one truly long wait in the office and since I expressed my concern about this they have been very prompt in seeing us. I also, am very flexible and schedule at off peak times. The front desk personal has ben stellar. I will add, I am insured and this office doesn't take my insurance, and I still go paying out of pocket. I think that speaks for my confidence in Dr. Jacobson and the care I am willing to pay for to see him. read more
