I was excited when I saw this place. I visited an exact same restaurant in Fargo, ND. Same name, same decor. I walked in and was seated. I asked the server if it was the same owners. Sadly no. I was still excited on trying the food. Server and other staff I interacted with were awesome. I didn't order my regular because I wasn't going to be here long enough to have leftovers. I ordered a cheese enchilada, chile relleno and rice with a lemonade. I asked the server how they made the relleno and she explained it. It was made authentically. So, chips were warm and had. Just the right amount of salt. The salsa lacked salt. The rice was the best. Very good rice. The relleno had a good flavor but was missing the egg batter. There was some but not enough. The enchilada. Now, I'm not sure what kind of cheese was used but it was really sweet. The enchilada sauce was also too sweet. The lemonade was also too sweet. If I was in the area longer I would be back to try something else. I'm a looker so I was looking at other peoples plates and their stuff looked and smelled really good. read more

We were so excited to try this restaurant that had excellent reviews. This turned out to be a huge disappointment. The first red flag that things wouldn't be authentic was the salsa that was served with the chips. It tasted like watered down ultra mild salsa. The staff was Mexican but the food certainly wasn't. Even Tex-Mex food is more Mexican than the food here. I seriously doubt that they eat this kind of food at home! I'm thinking this food is strictly for Wisconsinite palates. Happy customers were steadily arriving and enjoying their "Mexican" food. It's really hard to screw up Beef fajita nachos or a Beef fajita dinner but they've mastered the art. Simple review: go to Pedro's instead, don't waste your time as I did over my lunch break. We ordered the fajitas and there was barely any meat. What we received was mainly overcooked and rubbery frozen vegetables with hints of meat that tasted more like something I would receive at most cheap-o Chinese restaurants. Chips were thick and tasted store bought. Overall, no flavor and sad attempt at Mexican food in the northland. I'd take a picture but not worth our time. read more

We ordered two medium (27oz, $9.50) margaritas. Neither appeared (felt?) to have any tequila. My wife and I got a sugar buzz and a $19.00 line item on the check. Read on... We were looking for Mexican food tonight and found reviews for Guada on Yelp and TripAdvi$or. Encouraged, we made the short trek from Duluth to Superior, where the restaurant resides in a mostly-abandoned / re-purposed shopping mall. Seated at a table, our drink order was taken promptly. Upon delivery, the 27oz Maggies looked bigger than either of us wanted but no bother. Upon first sip, we were not impressed; it tasted like powdered drink mix, was a bit watered-down (was it warm when poured on ice?), and had no hint of tequila. I gave mine a chance though, but after sipping my way well into the 27oz glass (pictured), I didn't feel a thing except a mild sugar buzz. And the food... I won't bother to comment except to say it was marginal. I've had comparable food at low-buck, strip-mall taquerias; at a proper Mexican restaurant such as Guada's, I expected much better. Great service , we had a birthday party there. It was large enough for the whole family, which was 25+ people great atmosphere.

So I was a little surprised on this place just for the fact that I didn't expect Superior Wisconsin to have such a good Mexican restaurant considering it's so north. The second part that surprised me was the restaurant was attached to a completely dead mall. It was one of two shops that were still left on the outside of the back of the mall. My friend recommended this place since him and his wife enjoy it a lot, so we all went to try it since he said I had to while I was in town. So walking in I knew right away I was gonna like it just for the fact that almost no one speaks English and the deathly is always a good sign when you're looking for a good Mexican restaurant. You pretty much had a point at what you wanted or know how to pronounce what you wanted. Don't get me wrong, their are some people there who work there that speak English but our server did not and that does not bother me at all. I really enjoy the atmosphere here just because the music was just right and the staff was very polite, the entire time we were there. I have course I ordered the veggie fajitas and my friend and his wife ordered different dishes which they all look delicious. The fajitas were so good that I didn't take any home and normally I can only eat half of my plate when I go to restaurants. Next time I visit I definitely plan on coming back to this place because I really enjoyed everything about it. read more

Guadalajara has been and is one of the main Mexican food restaurants in the area and has survived much competition. It offers authentic Mexican food, served up hot and in a jiffy. The staff there are quick to serve and are attentive! And I have known the owners for many years and they're always quick to give a hug! I know there are many Mexican food restaurants in the area and some of them have brand new buildings with big open windows and bright shiny counters, but this place... It's Mexico folks. It is so authentic! And, the decor of this hole-in-the-wall offers authentic Mexican painted chairs, booths and tables! Hispanic music is playing in the air. Feels like you're in Mexico! The space allows for one-on-ones or humongous parties and there's even a bar area! And you can't go wrong with a margarita at this place. By far the best Mexican food you can get in the area. The service is pretty good most of the time. But the food is always tasty and served fresh. Sadly its in a dying mall in Superior WI. But if your in the area and crazy good Mexican food it is the only place I would recommend is the Duluth / Wisconsin area. read more

If you want to skip lunch- go to Guadalajara. Where to begin...any good reviews for this place must be fake! Absolutely the worst attempt at Mexican food that I have ever had anywhere. Flavorless, flat, poorly presented. A teenager with a can opener could do a better job. I took two bites and told the server to take it away. She didn't give any indication of caring what was wrong and the charge stayed on the bill. My sincere advice is go anywhere else; Taco Bell or John's is infinitely better than this place. Tottaly found this place on yelp about a week ago and decided to give it a try for lunch. The place was extremely clean and had some interesting art/decor. I went through the menu and was surprised to see that they actually offered tamales. Most places around the area actually sell our of their tamales in the middle of the day or by the time I get there for lunch. I was super happy to see that they actually had some and I hadn't had any sense I moved out from California. So this is what I ordered. The tamales tasted fresh and authentic. That's super rare for a Mexican restaurant around here. The service was also super fast and friendly. I was supper happy that I decided to give this place a try. Had a great meal at Guadalajara. I got guisado de puerco, similar to carnitas but in an awesome tomatillo-based sauce. These were fantastic. Being from Texas, I was looking for good Mexican food in Superior. Unfortunately this restaurant is not authentic and it's not even good. The enchilada was a slimy tortilla with ground beef and some sort of sauce on top. There was no flavor, no seasoning, and no bite. The burrito and enchilada were indistinguishable from each other and the relleno was a small pepper with a teeny amount of cheese about 1/8 inch thick. Aside from being located in the depths of Sup Town in an eerie abandoned mall, this place looked promising with all the cars out front. Inside is your colorful and festive mexican restuarant that was pretty busy, a good sign. The interior, scale and size of the business reminded me of a few back home in the Twin Cities area. The menus here are a nightmare! Oh the restaurant gods need to come down and grace this place with a new menu format. There was so much on the menu, it was overwhelming! So much text! I felt like I was reading a novel. Not only were the menus sub par but so was the service. Our server wasnt horribly busy and was pretty bad at getting to us. Im sure the conversation you had with your coworker for 10 minutes was pretty important to you but not us! Took too long to get our order in considering the amount of staff there and how busy it was. Our food was good, it was filling and just good mexican food i guess. Nothing to irregular. I had a couple tostadas and tacos. One of my tacos was mistakenly given to my friend, we werent sure if it was his or mine. They had a special on 22 oz domestic beers that night for 2.50 which was rad but it was all pissy watered down beer. I have thoroughly enjoyed dinning at Guadalajara since I moved to Superior in 2003. I visit there weekly if not more often for chips, salsa and a cold Mt Dew as lunch for under $5!! I had the carne asada tacos. They were excellent!!! Came with fresh pico and special sauce. They were very filling and so good. Sopapillas were good too. Also had chips and salsa. Tasted homemade as well with a good spice. Friendly service. I called in my order and took it to go. Next time I'll eat there. Now I haven't been to the Guad for a while now but my last two experiences were ridiculous. I went here for my mom's birthday a few years back and long story short, cockroaches were crawling up the wall. We told our server but she didn't say anything to the owners. I looked at the styrofoam carry out box and there was roach fecal matter on the hinge. The roaches had obviously set up shop in the big stack of carry out boxes on the bar. Very good Mexican food! At first when my son wanted to go here, I was skeptical. A Mexican restaurant in the mall in Superior??? How good can it be? However, I was pleasantly surprised. Their fish tacos were authentic and flavorful! I didn't try my son's food but he also said it was delicious. He had a combo plate with tacos and a burrito. The staff was very friendly, too! To our dismay it was a handful of chips covered in their bland nacho cheese sauce. There was a single slice of tomato and minimal meat. Taco Bell has nachos that are better and they arnt $10.
