The BBQ is always great, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. I've been going to Peebles since1972. Highly recommended.

We have eaten Peebles for over 25 years of the 70 they've been open, and we've never been disappointed. To be fair, we've only gotten the ribs. I know, but they are the best, so why move on. Other folks have tried the other items, with as much satisfaction. The potato salad is the absolute best, as is the cole slaw-not sweet or vinegary-perfect. And yes, in the south, the preferred bread is plain ol' white Wonder bread. We buy the BBQ sauce by the half gallon. This is a wonderful old Florida joint and is listed in www.Onlyinyourstate.com as one of the state's 10 best BBQ places. No AC inside, but take the opportunity to appreciate the feel of an old Florida eating place. They are closed July and August-it's too hot to be in there! Give it a try...it is delicious. read more

Well this was certainly an interesting place. I would think most would drive by after getting a look at the outside...we will call it "authentic?". Clearly nothing has been done to update the place in forever but the food and service made up for that. We split the dinner for two which gave us each two ribs, small portion of pulled pork, 2 sides, a drink AND banana pudding each as well! All for $32?!? Pork was moist and yummy. The sides (mac&cheese and beans) were both great as well. Delicious sweet tea and we took the pudding to go as we were so full. Once we got to it at home we loved that as well! Been coming here since I was a little kid... over 70 years!! I've eaten BBQ from Bavaria to Korea and this is the best. Food is still the best of it's type to be had.... and that is saying quite a lot because there is a LOT of great BBQ in this area. It is more dry BBQ than the wet type you get in Texas... both very good... just different. Service is excellent too... treated like a friend... and many of the workers know a lot of the customers. Stopped by for some lunch. I'm always concerned when place don't specifically have brisket on the menu and just call it "beef".I ended up ordey it anyway. It definitely wasn't brisket, texture was more like a round or thinly sliced rump roast. Still taste good. Grabbed a side of potato salad and collard greens. Potato salad was good. I really liked the collard greens but they must have had msg or something in them because 3 hrs later I could still taste them. Not a bad place, very reasonably priced but very limited hours of operation so make sure you check before you head over. read more

Step back into the 50's. Food was great. I enjoyed the beef sandwich. Not smoked brisket but something tasty.

A Rainy Saturday drive took us to a Old Florida Classic the way it as when it opened in 1947. The ribs were gnaw off the bone good with original sauce with a kick or sweet. The three other pulled meats and sausage with the 73 year old platter made for a filling meal. The Mac n cheese and baked beans were piping hot and tasty. The service was fast and friendly as the place filled up while we were there. This place is a must do Florida visit. read more

This was our first visit and it was good. This is a 70 year old, country, un air conditioned smokehouse. As a Texan, I judge BBQ that can stand on its own without sauce. Peebles did a fine job. We ordered chopped beef sandwich platter and the all white meat Quarter Chicken small plate and an order of sausage links. The menu is pretty simple and straightforward. The platters came with baked beans, potato salad and Cole slaw all made in house. The meats were very flavorful with a nice smoky taste. The Cole slaw was nice and not too sweet. The potato salad was THE Best I've had outside of my Mom's. I was really close to buying a quart to bring home. It was creamy and chunky with a sweet and tangy flavor. I'm not one to use a lot of BBQ sauce, but a little adds a nice flavor compliment to the smokiness of the meat. They have a regular sauce with a little peppery zestiness to it and a nice sweet sauce that is lighter in flavor to choose from. We are looking forward to our next visit to try the ribs. Nothing fancy about this place, but it is a nice casual environment with really good food. We definitely recommend Peebles. read more

I really enjoy the ribs here. Very flavorful. The sauce and the sides are not to my liking. I think I made my last visit ever. My last two visits weren't very welcoming. The servers made me feel like I wasn't welcomed. My last visit on October 5 really made me feel bad. When I walked in, 3 servers looked at me standing by the order table and never greeted or helped me. They just stared at me while talking amongst each other. Finally, an older lady approached, and I told her I had a call in. I followed her over to the register and paid for my food. She thanked me and began to walk away. I said, "Ma'am I don't have my food?" she said it's over there and walked away. I had to go behind the counter and get my own food because she refused to give it to me. This really hurts because I loved the taste of the ribs here, but due to racial ignorance, I will not return. read more

It's a unique bbq dive in Auburndale that's only open a few days a week. Some things are good. Some things are bland.

We moved from jacksonville to auburndale just to have peebles bar b que whenever we wanted Just kidding, but its good enough for that to be reason enough for anyone to move within driving distance to this place! We had a bbq potato, which is a texas favorite for my texas lady and it left her texas-sized appetite completely satisfied (shes eating for two yall). The potato was big and fat, covered in the meat of her choice and topped with shredded cheese (not cheese sauce which is the wrong way to do this yet some places do). The sliced beef plate was great. The beef was flavorful and tender. Three sides came with the dinner plate so the portion size was quite filling. The cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans were all great tasting sides that are typical fare at any self-respecting bbq joint. For dessert, we had a little bit of banana pudding. We take banana pudding seriously in the south and peebles passes this cultural test with ease. You definitely want to finish up your dinner with a round of their version. The building is old and looks every bit of the landmark that it is. I think its awesome. The staff seemed all friendly, with many of the customers being obvious regulars. This is our first visit and we will be back soon. We give this exceptional establishment as many thumbs up as possible including the ones growing inside my ladies belly! read more

I've always loved this place ... It's been here longer than I've been alive ... It's definitely got old character and you have to know you're going into the smoke pit, but the food is awesome ... And recently they have been making some additions to the menu that are really well done including baked potato you can load up with butter, sour cream, cheese, and your choice of bbq ... I'm partial to the pork, but my brother in law frequently gets the bbq chicken and my sister frequently gets the ribs ... It's a simple place, but the people are great and the food is always right! They've had the same menu since 1947 and a year ago they started testing the new sides, this week they're trying out smoked cabbage and smoked corn ... Great food and they serve you as fast as they can! Only opened on Thursday-Saturday, so you better plan ahead. Don't expect air conditioning but the fans work great! This is a local favorite and has a huge following in the area. read more

I decided to give Peebles a try, but I played it on the safe side. For, I couldn't get caught in such a place! So, I called and set up everything on my terms. It seems Peebles has a hearing problem from all the things it has going on inside. So, if you're calling in your request, be sure to speak up! Picking up was something was a breeze with special area they had set aside just for people like me. I felt like I was getting away with something criminal when I walked away with my huge bag for such a steal!! Sitting at home in the recliner with Peebles was when my nose came into contact with the most wonderful scent... It just makes your stomach dance with butterflies! We barely got here in time to order some wonderful BBQ. The chopped pork was so tender and perfectly seasoned. My sides were fresh and tasty - loved the collards, Mac and cheese and the potato salad. This IS my favorite BBQ joint in central Florida. It's a converted chicken shack, don't worry no feathers anywhere, with the pit inside the place. This is as rustic as you'll get, but the food is so good. For over the last 20 years I get the same thing; ribs with sauce on the side, potato salad, bbq beans and a slice of white bread. YUM!!!! Even my brother who doesn't care for BBQ loves this combo. Be aware this place has no air conditioning unless you count windows and you may share a table with strangers, but you're here for the food. Better yet, call in your order and pick it up when you get there. Serving on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday and they're only open from Labor day until Memorial Day. read more

My family and I were passing through as we are from out of town and we stopped by a good friend of my wife's who lives in the area. We decided to try Peebles as it was near by in an area with few options. The ambiance is very hole in the wall, but those are where I have had some of my best dining experiences with no expectations. We tried several things and overall they were "ok". Turkey was decent and had the most flavor of the items we had but a little dry. The ribs were tender, but not very meaty and seemed as if they were cooked on a grill and not smoked - there was no smoke flavor at all. Chopped pork was again ok but lacked a smoke flavor I'm accustomed to and received its flavor from being diluted in a sauce when it's served . The coleslaw and collard greens were pretty good and I would get them again. BBQ beans were like a can of Bush Baked beans. Staff was very nice and attentive.
