The Everything Plant-Based Sandwich. Make sure you ask for hot sauce!
    James K.

A pretty nice Peet's! (Ethical rating: 3.5 Green Stars) This Peet's Coffee in the West end of Alameda is pleasant for various reasons: There's usually lots of space, including outdoor seating with leafy shade; staff members are friendly; the music is not too loud; and it's clean, with clean restrooms too. Peet's had gradually improved when it comes to plant-based offerings. There's the vegan "Everything Plant-Based Sandwich" (an Impossible sausage patty combined with vegan egg and cheddar on a thin bagel) which isn't bad when combined with hot sauce. Unfortunately they did away with the other (better) vegan savory offering last year - the Mediterranean flatbread - so it would be nice to see something to replace it. On the sweet side, the morning glory muffin is vegan and also happens to be one of the best things in the pastry case. And thanks in large part to a campaign supported by Paul McCartney, there's now no extra charge for plant-based milks! I'm also giving the Peet's 3.5 out of 5 "Green Stars" for social and environmental impact, based on this: * Reasonable selection of vegetarian items and a vegan sandwich, muffin, and brownie. * Peet's have been better than most other US chains (Starbucks, Philz) at introducing coffee that's organic, shade-grown (e.g., certified Smithsonian Bird Friendly), or processed by the natural method, etc. Having said that, there aren't that many certified coffee beans on sale at the moment. None that are fair trade certified, that I can see and just a couple that are certified organic. Perhaps the best option is the Yosemite Dos Sierras, which is organic and also certified bird friendly (Smithsonian). It's also one of their best coffees. * Peet's allows customers to bring their own coffee mugs again & gives a 25 cent discount for using one. * Peet's main coffee roastery in Alameda is certified LEED Gold- the first in the US. (LEED = Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) * Peet's has now merged with Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) and the joint venture had its IPO in 2020 on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange. JDE scores poorly for ethics, for example on Ethical Consumer. * Peet's sells coffee pods (and JDE sells two machines that use pods), encouraging plastic waste. * Peet's doesn't reports enough on social and environmental impact (e.g., coffee pricing) for a company of this size. So a mixed bag from Peet's: Better than Starbucks or Philz but not as good as some other local spots. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, please check out the Green Stars Project.

I love this place. Employees are very nice and friendly. Food is always fresh and tasty.

I went to try the new Dubai matcha drink. All I got was a lot of ice and less product to drink. Real sad

Everything Plant-Based Sandwich and Ice mocha

First time here and I wanted to try their plant base breakfast sandwich. Sandwich is a good size taste blends well, for me I didn't even noticed it's not meat, very light in taste. My drink is ice mocha and it's okay I can taste it strong. Overall for the last two months this will be my 2nd time visiting Peet's and trying their food and drinks. Service was fast and nice gentlemen assisting us. Ambiance plenty space, spread out area.

Peet's seating includes indoor and (sparse) outdoor seating.

Excellent service, very roomy location, parking lot with marks Peet's spots, and a Berkeley-based chain that long knew not to add sugar to a ceremonial tea powder (e.g., matcha) unless upon request. The chain in general can do the sparking cold brews similar to the espresso tonics I had in North Carolina. Good place to work on a Sunday afternoon

I love the staff here. I came in with my SO to grab an afternoon caffeine pick-me-up and was greeted upon entrance. The barista who checked us out was a character, which put a smile on our faces. The store is spacious and warm. There is street parking and a parking lot in the back. There is a drive-thru. There are indoor and outdoor seating.

Service was fast and the drink was tasty. No waiting in the drive thru lane. They made recommendations on what I was craving. Worked was very nice and welcoming.

Drive thru line on a sunny Sunday afternoon

{Covid-19 Review} I don't usually visit coffee shops, but I needed a caffeine boost on a Sunday afternoon. So let's hit the drive-thru (DT) at Peet's Coffee on Webster Street! I come around the corner, and see.....only two cars in line! YAY, it should be easy to grab a large (hot) Latte. I only waited about 2-3 mins. Mask required at the DT window. Friendly and prompt service. I pay and get my drink. No problem. I looked over the other Yelp reviews, and I see people are impressed by the roomy space, parking lot and drive-thru. There's a reason for that.....the site used to be a Burger King restaurant. Peet's gutted the building, modernized it, but kept the drive-thru layout. There's not much of a view, but you can't have everything! They did a good job converting the old fast food place into a handsome coffee shop. It's got a nice interior, outdoor patio, drive-thru and parking lot. For anyone confused about which driveway leads to the drive-thru entrance, it's the middle one. But I avoid this place when there's a huge line. Good job converting the site into a more popular and useful business!

I don't usually go to coffee shops because I don't drink coffee, but came here while waiting for my lunch group. I ordered the matcha latte and was impressed by how much matcha flavor it had but not bitter at all. No sweetener (an option) was needed. The place is very spacious with lots of empty tables on a Sunday morning. I don't have much to compare to, but I thought it was nice inside, and I enjoyed my drink.

I used to think 'why review Coffee Chain locations'? They're all the same, aren't they? Well, I have come to learn, after regularly needing an afternoon pick-me-up, that there's a good reason why people have a grocery store, coffee shop, or book store that they regard as 'theirs'. Peet's Coffee in Alameda appears to be my go-to place whenever I need that energy boost after reaching that half-way mark during the work day. I first came here because I received a gift card. I was always fond of their coconut black ties (coconut milk, cold brew, and condensed milk), but wanted something stronger - like a coconut latte with condensed milk. You get the same delicious condensed milk but with the sharp punch of espresso. I used their drive through, and despite seeing a large queue, the staff seems to always navigate through that perfectly and professionally. Some customers seem to have trouble figuring out what they want (sorry, didn't mean to listen, but there's literally nothing to do while waiting), but the staff always are helpful and seem cheerful on the talking box. I realized that even though the drive through goes through orders very quickly, that if there's more than 3-4 people in queue, it's much faster to go in. That's my rule of thumb for all drive-thrus. I decided that now that Stay-At-Home has lifted again, that a quick visit inside and a couple of steps would be a good way to change up my day. The inside of the store was bigger than I had imagined. The interior is quite beautifully designed and spotless (which may not be saying too much due to COVID, but since they get so much foot traffic, it's still a feat). They have chairs outside for customers to work, enjoy their coffee, and chit-chat. Even though it's along a busy street, it is quite peaceful on most days. So going back... how is this different and why the 5 stars? - Cleanliness is stellar. Spotless. Great markers for 6 feet distances (for the spatially unaware patrons). - Service is phenomenal. It's easy to recall those memories where we spoke with stressed out, overworked staff, but the employees here deal with a lot and still maintain their positive demeanor. - Quality drinks that stays consistent. I have tried a handful of items and they have remained as good or better than other locations. - Convenience. Easy to park, easy to order, even has a drive-thru.

Even though there was a sign mentioning that it was a small space and asking guests to keep the volume down, that didn't really happen. One of the other parties was an intimate baby shower. My friends and I weren't exactly quiet either, but I think it was because the whole room was fairly lively. There were so many different kinds of tea to choose from. There were six of us, and we all ordered different flavors so we could sample each other's teas. The sandwich selection was also impressive, and our tea towers included a variety of small desserts that were all delicious as well. I chose the Smoked Salmon & Chive Cream Cheese, Cucumber & Dill Cream Cheese, and Coconut Jam (Kaya) with sliced cold butter. The Kaya sandwich was easily my favorite. The desserts were a wonderful addition to the experience, and everyone at the table enjoyed them. I was torn between ordering the Peaches & Cream Black Tea and a green tea. I ended up choosing the Genmaicha with Coconut, and it was delicious. If I come back, I'd definitely like to try the Peaches & Cream Black Tea. As a group, we all agreed that the Kaya sandwich was the standout item. We did have a small hiccup at the beginning because two of our tea orders arrived without tea bags--basically just hot water! We all had a good laugh about it. They were busy, and mistakes happen. The staff was very apologetic and corrected it right away. They even offered us two extra sandwich orders, which was a very thoughtful gesture. Overall, it was a good experience, and I enjoyed my first tea party. However, I do feel that this venue is better suited for a calmer, more intimate gathering, such as a bridal shower or a quiet afternoon tea with close friends. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Anytime someone rang the bell, they came to the table almost immediately. If you're looking for a relaxing tea experience with a small group, this is definitely a place worth trying. For my group of friends, we're a little louder and more energetic, so it almost felt like we were too much for such a peaceful setting. What makes this place so great too is that they allow you to pick sandwiches that are traditional to English Breakfast or you can go out of your way to pick traditionally Asian flavors. Between my partner and I we ordered: Meat floss sandwich (my favorite but that is because I have an affinity for meat floss), beef jerky (love how it paired with the creamy mayo), kaya jam with butter (a delicious salty sweet blend), and chicken curry (comfort food at best). We both enjoyed the scone with clotted cream and jam, very typical for afternoon tea, and in the dessert tier we got chocolate rocks (fun!), macarons, ube chiffon cake, and a strawberry sago pudding. Heads up everyone in your party gets their own tea set so you can mix and match to share with folks. Btw, they do have square sugar cubes, a nice accent.
