A Cut Above the Rest! I had a truly fantastic experience at this Philz Coffee location! From the moment I walked into the clean, bright, and incredibly welcoming space, the customer service was absolutely top-tier. The person at the cash wrap was friendly, genuinely willing to offer recommendations, and made me feel like an appreciated guest. They really pay attention to the small nuances that make you glad you chose them over the sea of other coffee options out there. One of my favorite things about Philz is their signature policy: they encourage you to take a sip right there at the counter to ensure you love it before you walk away. If it's not perfect, they'll remake it right on the spot--that level of care puts them a cut above standard corporate chains. My iced coffee was poured perfectly with a gorgeous swirl on top. I also ordered a Cherry Almond Coffee Cake, toasted. You can instantly tell their pastries aren't pre-wrapped, mass-produced items fed through a corporate machine. Philz sources from local, artisan bakeries, and the quality shows. The shop layout is great, with plenty of stylish mid-century seating areas and bright decor. My only tiny critique is that I wish they had a broader selection of merchandise on display , but maybe that's part of their retro, community-focused vibe. All in all, an enjoyable, high-quality visit. I will definitely be back!

NY style cheddar jalapeño bagel

Philz coffee is a lovely franchise. I normally get the mint mojito iced coffee. I'm looking forward to trying new flavors since this location is more accessible to me. Everything they serve seems to be high quality. And the NY style cheddar jalapeño bagel is so fire! Although I'm glad to have one near by, the location itself is odd to me. There is no parking. There is a VERY SMALL Sprouts parking lot and down the street is a metered lot. I hope that doesn't impact the stores ability to stay open. The only downside to Philz in general, is that they are slow. I've visited several locations and they all seem to be the same. Philz is a very chill relaxed environment. So please have patience! If you are in a rush, do yourself a favor and order ahead.

I stopped into the newly opened Philz Coffee on 14th St & Callan Avenue. There is a Sprouts parking garage nearby, in addition to metered street parking. The interior is spacious and large. Several tables and benches to sit at. Two separate unisex restrooms. The service was very friendly, courteous, and polite. Yuzu Twist Lemon Tea: a refreshing, limited-time iced beverage combining cold-brewed black tea, lemonade, and vibrant citrus yuzu with fresh mint (4/5). This is one of my favorites here. The TGTG Surprise Bag contained... Cherry Almond Coffee Cake - seasonal item (4/5). Wow, just as I hoped it would be. I'd get this again! It also had a Plain Croissant, Kouign Amann, Pumpkin Loaf, & Blueberry Muffin. Come check them out.

Tantalizing Turkish (m. 5.80)

Philz Coffee opened recently on the ground floor of Centro Callan in a corner commercial space. Brand new space with specialized decor reminiscent of Trader Joe's. Philz has entered private equity ownership since my last visit in Castro Valley. Menu has expanded from its core coffee blends. Offerings (darker/medium/lighter blends, cookies, croissants, bagels, sandwiches, burritos, pastries, muffins, tea, breakfast, coffee beans, merch.. Parking is nonexistent except for paid meters, or in shopping center across the street. Sprouts may not be an option. Seating is some tables and benches inside or tables outside. Inside seating is tight, not a lot of space. Ordering was quick as line was only 1 person. Waiting for drinks 6 minutes. Much better than 30 minutes in C.V. Sips: Tantalizing Turkish (med. 16 oz. 5.80) -didn't know this was a rebrand of Aromatic Arabic Blend 5.30) I had before. Tastes different. Initially harsh, it mellowed out later to be a smoother easy sipping but not bold sip. -new formula: cardamon, mint, aromatic Arabic coffee blend. Something missing? Haven't been to a Starbucks for a decade+. Imagine Philz is emanating Star for good or.... 4 stars: semi-worthy:ymmv. Service: excellent. Quantity: reasonable Qualtiy: unknown-probably lower than before. Maybe awhile before Philz is visited again.

Delish pastries, warm and hearty food options, and drinks!

Waited patiently for Philz to open at this location, so I was ready before 8am to head over to their grand opening! The vibe at 7:30am was bussin' and they had more than enough staff and management working hard to take care of all customers in the house! Seeing tables and chairs full of people, including people focused on their laptops and people laughing, and seeing people going in and out of the door made it even more exciting to see their business THRIVING ON DAY ONE! My mom and I enjoyed our fav Kouign-amann pastry and I ordered my iced mint mojito from our takeout orders. All baked goods were fully stocked, nonstop drinks being prepped, and an abundance of samples as their grand opening treats, made this Philz location worth the wait! Thank you to the fantastic, organized, and super friendly and energetic Philz team here!

Philz Coffee just soft opened this new location and it already feels like a win! The location is perfect and fits the area really well. The coffee is exactly what you expect from Philz. Smooth, flavorful, and made with care. No surprises here, which is a good thing. Cozy seating, relaxed vibe, and plenty of spots where you can lounge with a cup or get a little work done. Strong start for this location. I can already see it becoming a regular stop.

The best jalapeño and cheese bagel along with the chocolate croissant and the caramel coconut drink. This is all the best
Melissa G.

To be honest, I just tried the chocolate croissant today from there and when I tell you, it's way better from Starbucks, I'm being 100% with it. I love going here every time for my favorite drink and my favorite breakfast to eat. It's always the jalapeño cheese bagel always has to be that one that's one of the top tier best ones along with my favorite blueberry muffin

In the reward section, you have to spend $120 (1,200/10=$120) to get a free cup of coffee !!! Terrible!!

In rewards program, you earn 10 points for every $1 spent. When you earn 1,200 points, you get a free cup of coffees. That means you have to spend $120 (1,200/10=$120) to earn a free cup of coffee!!! Makes no sense,

I like to look for new spins on lattes to see what barista's are whipping up to make things unique. I came in thinking I was going to get a basic latte, but the Borgia Mocha caught my eye! I asked the cashier if it was a good choice and she recommended it. I was a little unsure how the two would blend and how much orange they would use in it, but it came out amazing! Honestly probably one of the top 10 unique mocha's I have tried and it was delicious! I loved the burst of refreshing orange that complimented the chocolate. The flavors danced on my tastebuds like two separate flavors that blended together as one. Each holding their own note that added value to the drink making it unique. I was instantly impressed and wish I found this on more menus! A classic mocha with a refreshing twist of orange was a pleasant surprise! I'm so glad I stopped in for a pick me up! I also loved all the art on the large walls and there looked to be plenty of tables and seating for people to eat and work at.

Was meeting up with a friend from Berkeley and he found this spot in between the both of us. Pros and cons! + The coffee - holy shit. Got a cortado. And drank it without sugar it was so good. A touch of bitter (it's coffee - duh!) but so smooth, almost nutty but buttery at the same time. + Got a chicken salad sandwich. It came stacked HIGH with hints of sweetness and curry. Freshest produce. Honestly, I was hungry but could only eat half of it, it was so big. + Friend got a warmed cinnamon bun. Incredible. Yeasty, chewy almost crisp on the outside but pillowy soft on the inside. + Wide open space inside -- high ceilings, one big central area. Not tucked away spaces -- which might or might not match your preference. + Perfect amount of coffeehouse buzz. Music playing lowish in the background and lots of conversations. Just enough to quell my ADHD tendencies. * Honestly can't think of any negatives. Prices are a bit high but happy to pay it for such a quality experience. I think my cortado was decently priced -- maybe $6 or so? Sandwich was $18 or so but done really well and came with a bowl of soup (chips, fruit, and something else was an option instead of soup, but tomato bisque with a sandwich? Divine.) - An hour away from where I live but if you live anywhere East Bay, my curse is your blessing ;-)

Parking is a little weird and very limited but luckily for us, we found a spot on the side of the building. There were two young ladies working the store and the menu is basically posted everywhere. My daughter and I immediately gravitated to the banana matcha latte. We also saw they had yummy croissant pastries available, so we decided to give that a try. What we got: 1. 2 banana matcha lattes- 4/10 the matcha was okay but we tasted no banana to it besides the slices of banana. The pudding tasted like regular vanilla. Overall just not what we were anticipating. 2. Brown sugar boba milk? - 0/10 This was just milk with a bit of brown sugar syrup. (See pic) I actually dropped this off to my other daughter and she said she just couldn't drink it. 3. Strawberry croissant- 8/10 This was actually good. The strawberries with the jam and whipped cream were very good. Don't get me wrong, service was fine. They also had a few great items but the actual drinks were mid. I think the matcha needs to change or maybe making it more paste like could help boost the flavor. The brown sugar latte was just not it.

I had been to the church before, but I didn't remember the massive coffee hangout there! It's so spacious and offers plenty of seating. How long has this place been here? It's also a fantastic spot to meet up or chat with a group of friends. It was definitely a nice place for a date! When we walked in, there were hardly any available seats, but the line at the counter wasn't long. We found a quiet corner to sit and enjoyed our breakfast. I ordered a hot latte with maple syrup in the name, though I can't recall the exact name. It paired nicely with my pastry. The almond croissant I ordered was delectable, with just the right amount of sweetness and flakiness. My partner enjoyed his cappuccino and savory bacon croissant. We walked up two steps to the restroom and were surprised to find more seats and tables. I wish I had noticed that area when I was looking for a place to sit. Oh well, it was comfortable where we were. The girls should have more playdates with their cousins so we can come here more often. I got a "spend $6, get $3 off" promo in my app since it had been a while, and it lured me right through the door. I originally ordered a large drink and a pastry, but when the total hit $12, I had the barista knock the drink down to a medium to save a few bucks. After the discount, I walked out spending $8. Sneaky marketing--they got me to spend money I hadn't planned on! For my order, I tried the Iced Lavender Vanilla Matcha. Unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite and didn't quite hit the spot, so I only drank about half of it. I also grabbed a Lemon Blueberry Danish. Now, I have a personal rule about "open-air" pastry cases--if food is sitting out all day, it's an open invitation for gnats or flies to dance all over it! Usually, I prefer when they pull a fresh one from the back wrap counter. When I noticed the barista pull mine straight from the display, I asked her about it. She was sweet and assured me everything was fresh and they didn't have a gnat problem right now, so I decided to take a chance since she was warming it up.
