So disappointed in my recent experiences here. On Friday, 4/17, I placed an online order for two drinks. My sister's hot vanilla latte was made perfectly but my Iced Vanilla Latte with Popping Pearls was not. They did not add the popping pearls. I was slightly annoyed but whatever, not the end of the world. The following day, we placed another online order. Once again, my sister's hot vanilla latte was made perfectly, but my drink was not. I ordered the Iced Vanilla Latte with Ube Dream Top and I received what looked and tasted like a hot matcha latte with ube dream top? I do not like matcha and I didn't like or drink the one the gave me. Unfortunately, both days I was in a rush and was unable to go back and have them fix it. Would've been a 4-star review if it hadn't been for surprisingly sexist comment a female employee made. Was in town and had some time to kill before meeting up with family, so we decided to use that time to stop into Peet's. First time in this location, and probably because of the weather it was pretty quiet. Quieter than normal for an early Friday evening, according to the young lady at the counter. We ordered several drinks to include; two Vanilla Cappuccino's, a Peppermint Mocha, and a Vanilla Frappe. Our drinks were ready to go real quick, and we sat and enjoyed at a few tables near the counter area. The only off putting thing about this visit occurred while sitting and enjoying our drinks. Where the female staff were conversing and one of the girls replied; "Finally, a man's that's worth something!" My son and I just looked at each other since he heard the comment as well as I did; surprised that she'd actually say that in the store. With male customers literally within ear shot of her. Overall: It's probably best for employees to keep their negative comments about the opposite sex at home. And not express them openly while on the job in front of said customer base. read more

Today, I visited this Peet's to meet with a client and work online while waiting for my daughter to get out of school. I had been there for quite some time without any issues, on a low-volume conference call, mindful that I was in a public space. About 45 minutes before I planned to leave, a woman came in and sat next to me. She interrupted my call to ask if I had headphones. I politely said no and continued. She then demanded I move somewhere else, despite the fact she had just arrived and there were plenty of other patrons using their devices without headphones. She complained to the manager, who confirmed I had been there for a while, was not disruptive, and had not bothered anyone else. When she didn't get the outcome she wanted, she began playing loud music on her phone. I ignored it at first, but eventually turned my own volume up slightly to block it out. At that point, she and her companion began antagonizing me, making loud, insulting remarks about my appearance. I am bald due to breast cancer treatment, and they targeted that in their insults. Two unrelated customers overheard, and one even told management the woman's behavior was inappropriate before leaving. The harassment escalated to the point where I left early to avoid further confrontation. Management tried to be neutral, but the verbal attacks, especially those mocking my appearance left me humiliated and deeply uncomfortable. I've never experienced anything like this at any Peet's location. This was not just a disagreement over seating, it became targeted harassment in a space where I should have felt welcome. Unfortunately, because the woman claimed she frequents this location and "always sits in that area," I will not be returning. read more

I happened to be in the area on a Saturday afternoon and saw that this location of Peet's offered a discounted leftovers bag on Too Good to Go app, so I decided to order it. When I arrived and mentioned I was here for a Too Good to Go pickup, it seemed the bag wasn't necessarily prepared ahead of the pickup time, but instead one of the staff went and selected all of the pastries and put them into smaller bags for me, then put all of those into a larger bag. I don't necessarily mind since it was still pretty fast and friendly service. I received two maple scones, a chocolate chip cookie, and a brownie for $4.40 total which was a pretty good deal. The food still tasted pretty good and not stale when I ate it. I don't particularly like maple but I did like the maple scones since the maple wasn't overpowering, and they are nicely crunchy without being unpleasantly hard. I liked the chocolate chip cookie too, just wish there was more chocolate. The brownie was also good, though not mindblowing, and definitely more dry rather than moist by the time I ate it (but not surprising, as these are leftovers at the end of the day). read more

Now several months later. There are no more dogs running loose! A new, larger sign specifically targets those rude people who assume that everyone wants a dog running around to annoy the customer. Yes, I do like dogs and other pets. But, not around my feet or in my lap or eating treats in front of me. Now, dogs are on a leash or they are tethered outside for everyone to enjoy. Been coming here for a long time. Last week, I waited 15min for my order, after taking my first sip, realized that they had completely given me the wrong drink, but was in a rush so I couldn't go back and let them know. Today, to try and avoid this same problem, I ordered in the app. My order came out ten minutes later than it was supposed to. Peet's in Montclair. There's not a lot to say here. It's not the most overwhelmingly stunning store; just the same as every other Peet's -- wonderful aroma of fresh ground coffee, spacious seating area, etc. For whatever reason, I have yet to find a Peet's with a clean condiment bar, and this one is no different; It's sad to see the trash overflowing onto it. I decided not to post a photo of the mess. The coffee is always hot and tasty, which is what keeps me coming back. That, and they always have a nice selection of pastries. Yum. read more

This is like any other Peet's. They have all the offerings and plenty of space to work. However, there are not that many outlets which lead me to believe they don't want to encourage people setting up shop to work. Pro tip: There's a concentration of outlets in the extremely small booth area. Wait for a person to leave if you want to get a good spot! read more

Located on the Main Street of Montclair Village, this is one of my go to Peet's. I usually do a mobile order and they are super efficient- almond lattes are my thing and they manage to make the milk light and fluffy. It's a little dark and drab, and it doesn't compare favorably to other Oakland-ish locations, such as the ones in Temescal (on Telegraph), Emeryville (at the Public Market), or Alameda (on Park). Also, I'm not sure if it's just this location or a new corporate-wide policy, but the free wi-fi (with purchase) appears to have been reduced from two hours to only one. Even the Starbucks across the street, which really doesn't encourage lounging, offers two hours. read more

Peet's is always good place for consistent coffee and espresso drinks. It's difficult to maintain a well-known product when the company has experienced the growth Peet's has in recent years. I have a Peet's in Orange County that I visit nearly every day and the service there is amazingly friendly and efficient. So even though the service here is fine, they attention to detail may be a bit off here. The latte was barely warm, which I know because I didn't even think of needing a java jacket. Here in Montclair Village, we have this little old Peet's Coffee as well as the larger and newer Starbucks just around the corner. I tend to alternate between the two depending on my caffeine cravings, but I've recently chosen Peet's more often because I prefer the Peetnik Rewards program (currently double points through October 25!). Service is always friendly and efficient here at this Peet's location. The space is cozy and they offer free WiFi, so it could be a good spot to get some work done if you manage to grab a table. However, if you're looking for a brighter space with more seating, the nearby Starbucks might be preferred. My drink recommendations: I'm really digging Peet's new medium roast Vine & Walnut Blend when I just want a simple drip coffee. They also make a mean matcha green tea latte (I like mine unsweetened and with almond milk) which continues to be my all-time favorite Peet's beverage! read more

I have been buying peet's cappucinos for as long as I have been in California and find that when I order a dry cappucino it almost always comes out perfect, and I always compliment the barista. 4:30 pm today I go into the peets in Monclair Village and describe what I want: a dry cap with 1" of milk and the rest all foam. 2 minutes later I got a latte that had to go on a diet! I told the barista that a dry cap is MOSTLY foam, with a litttle milk at the bottom of the cup. She said that thats what she made but would be happy to make it again. The next one was worse than the first. I asked the person at the register for a refund when the barista said she'll do it right, telling me I should ask for a bone dry cap. OK, let's see a bone dry cap. If screwing up a coffee was her intention , she got it right. My instinct was to throw it at her but my better judgement said let it go. I left with a hot glass of milk and swearing I'd never go in there again. When you usually get excellence from any Peet's, its like the world got turned upside down when they can't get it right. OK, I'm spoiled, but I'm paying for what I want! If my client wants something specific, why would I give anything but that? Peet's, take a little more time with training!!! read more

Undertow. Get this drink now. I'm not exactly sure how new this concoction of hand pulled Espresso Forte, natural Madagascar vanilla syrup, and cold cream is, but it's fantastic. I stopped in at this location a few times and I liked the atmosphere and friendly service. It's in a quaint part of Oakland Hills so there are plenty of shops to browse if you want to walk around with your coffee. The usual Peet's goodness applies here of course: Fresh brewed strong coffee in a chill atmosphere. read more

There are tons of soccer moms in this location who need the extra caffeine boost so they can lift their really heavy diamond rings. My favorite thing when the weather is hot is get one of their delicious iced coffees. Not a frothy thing - just a plain 'ol ice coffee with plenty of cream. Peets is sort of a satellite office for me - I'm there at least 3 times a week. The staff here is all very friendly, the coffee is great. Peet's in Montclair never fails. The staff is seriously so friendly that you want to work there! A few of the staff even know my usual drink (small lowfat latte), which is helpful, but also makes me realize I go there way too much. Several times a week I bring my dog and tie him up outside (which he appreciates since Montclair is dog mecca) and get my latte and occassionally a muffin or something of the sort (tasty pastries). I prefer Peet's espresso drinks to Starbuck's and I appreciate that they offer lowfat milk. Their coffee is not for weak stomachs and will get you buzzin all mornin. Latte Drinker Tip: I noticed that the only difference between the small latte and the medium latte is more milk! Both have 2 shots of espresso, so if you are watching your calories and want more bang for your buck, go with the small! Enjoy and see you at Peet's! read more

My favorite coffee place in Montclair Village. A few months ago, they went through a remodel and have more inside seating. The place is abuzz on weekend mornings with local cyclist, bikers, moms, dads, kids, students, etc. all getting their morning fix. The regulars seem to know each other. I suppose it's like a 21st century Cheers -- where everybody knows your name. Well, at least somebody might. After a few years drinking Peet's coffee, I gag on other coffees in the Village -- like the coffee across the street and the coffee a few doors down. Compared to other Peet's places, it's bigger than the tiny ones and cozier than the bigger ones with 10 tables or so inside. I'd say this Peet's has about half that seating -- about 5 tables inside. Oh, watch for road rage scrambling around for a close parking spot. If you don't want to spoil the mood of good coffee, just park in the garage around the corner. read more
