I waited for this Peet's to open for a while, although the Starbucks is right across the street, I used to go to Caribou's at least few times a week and was disappointed when it closed. BUT even better! Peet's finally opened! After the first week, the service defintely improved (not to say that it was bad before, but some of the new employees were adjusting it seemed like) - the line moves much quicker now and everyone has a smile on at early hours in the morning. Some of the drinks may take a little longer than Starbucks but I appreciate that they take their time for each drink and because of it, I've never had to send my drink back for silly mistakes that could have been avoided if they were being careful. I have not had their medium or dark roasts, but their light roasts are always good. I have gotten a few different type of coffees for the light roast and they have all been very good. The vanila latte is also very good - it is a little too sweet for my taste so I usually ask for no sugar or very little sugar but if you like your coffee sweet, the vanila latte is great! As another reviewer said, if they developed an app or some sort of rewards program, I'd be back more often. read more

On a Sunday at around 6 pm, I ordered ahead using Mobile Ordering. One Mocha Javiva without whipped cream, and one Chocolate & Caramel Swirl Javiva. When I walked in the store, the drinks weren't ready. No worries, I browse the store's products until they're ready. When they're placed for pickup, I noticed one drink was not what I ordered; the Chocolate & Caramel Swirl had neither Chocolate, nor Caramel, nor whipped cream. It looked just like a coffee Javiva. I asked the barista, who wasn't wearing any Peet's "uniform" or even a name tag (maybe she was in a hurry to clock out), whether this was a chocolate caramel swirl and whether they had any whipped cream. She answered that the chocolate and caramel "are in there" (I've ordered this drink numerous times and you can ALWAYS see the chocolate and caramel swirls "in there," as it shows on the Peet's app/website), and that I didn't order whipped cream because it's not listed on the printout. I said I did, and that it's not on the printout because it's standard with the order; whipped cream is only listed if someone orders a Light Javiva or a Javiva without it, in other words when the order differs from how the drink is made, as the Mocha Javiva had "NO Whip" on the printout. She takes the drink, puts whip on it and slides it over to me with utter contempt. Again, without chocolate or caramel sauce on the whipped cream. I ask her if she could please place some sauce on the whipped cream (at this point I'll settle for either Chocolate or Caramel). She laughs, rolls her eyes, shakes her head, and produces mocha sauce not from a container or a squeeze bottle, but from an open coffee cup, drips it over the whipped cream, places the drink on the counter, and walks away to the back. Needless to say, I won't be coming back to this Peet's location ever again. It's horrific that a business has such an appalling lack of customer service, especially one block from the White House and other tourist attractions. When someone pays for your service, they should never feel like they're inconveniencing you by simply asking you to fulfill the order. If you like Peet's coffee, the new location in Friendship/Chevy Chase is the place to go; the service is night and day, the store is clean, and the drinks actually resemble what you order. read more

I keep trying to like this place... I have tried so many different drinks here and they all either make me gag or regret spending my money. I really miss Caribou and I am so upset that they took over ALL of them in the area. The environment is sterile and makes me feel like I'm still at work- no thanks. read more

Peet's, wherever I go, is usually okay for mass production coffee, but going into anything that requires a barista, and it starts to go to mediocre...which was my experience here. Acceptable, but nothing that calls you back for more. read more

While trying to find a Starbucks we found this place. MOST places are closed in the area of D.C. on a Sunday so we lucked out. The ices caramet macchiato was SO MUCH BETTER than Starbucks and was priced less than them too. For a snack I got the Ham & Cheese croissant which I am still salivating over. SO good. First time in an actual Peet's shop after having sampled K-cups of the delicious coffee since Christmas and was I pleased!! They picked some of the nicest people to work here!!! The coffee was amazing and perfect I can't wait for them to open more locations as I don't live in DC and need a closer location. I'm in love. Everything there is just so good! I ordered the ice tea with green tea my first time and I was hooked. Peets is conveniently located near three metro stations and a Barnes and Noble. I want to like Peet's, but I can't. Every time I leave, I'm disappointed. Today, I ordered a peppermint mocha. It tasted like nothing. I saw the barista add all of the ingredients, but still the final product was flavorless and lackluster. I ended up throwing it away after a few sips (I can't waste calories in something that has no taste) and heading down to Starbucks to get a peppermint mocha. That one packed a punch. I give two stars because of the friendly, hard-working employees. They were so nice that I almost feel guilty about writing this review, but I was nevertheless compelled. They are honestly the nicest folks. Topher always remembers my order, and the girls behind the cash register really take the time to laugh with me and brighten my day. The drinks are always so nice, the coffee is really well balanced and strong, and I find that they run this remarkably clean and tidy store. It really makes you have a sense of buy-in as a customer, because you feel comfortable there, and they really take the time to let you know that they are glad to see you as much as you are glad to have a spot to enjoy a cup of coffee that is clean, well made, and inviting. I've been a fan of Peet's Coffee for years with my personal favorites being Big Bang, Major Dickason's Blend, and even their French Roast. So I was pretty excited to run into an actual Peet's Coffee House in DC on a recent trip. I tried the Black Tie Cold Brew Coffee which is mixed with a blend of sweetened condensed milk and half and half. The combination was well balanced and not overly sweet like i was expecting from my usual experience with my other beloved drink Thai Tea. The set up in the coffee shop is nice and they even have actual coffee beans out in plain view of all of their notable flavors. The staff was friendly and knows how to brew a good cup of coffee. If you take a look around you'll find that several presidents have had a cup of joe in this shop. I happened to take a photo of current President Obama who had a place pretty much dead center in the collage of frames. The seating by the window on a rainy day is nice as the windows are large and let a lot of light come through and is also a good spot for people watching. Even if you're not in the area I highly recommend their coffee as it's leaps and bounds above Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts as far as flavor's concerned. read more

It's good coffee. I've only had the espresso drinks, but they are quite good (better than the green lady, no doubt). It does take longer than most places to get your drink, but it's organized by name (typed on a screen, so no deciphering a name on your coffee cup). It's a bit more expensive than Caribou, unfortunately, but not a bad replacement. Good live music at times. Worst part is probably the location, with the street being locked down whenever some dignitary chooses to visit the White House. read more

Very poor and mediocre service. Drinks are made okay, but their service is rushed and rude. They aim to push you out the door, and it's obvious they don't really are about your drink as long as you're out the door fast. The employee named Denise didn't help me with what I needed, and seemed to make things convenient for himself rather than serving me what I asked for. I ordered a dirty chai tea latte, but I got a reg chai latte instead. When I asked him about it, he offered to pour shots over it rather than re making it. Didn't even apologize! It's been a while since I posted a review about this Peat's. I avoided the place for a long time after visiting a few times hoping the service would improve. I'm changing my one star to five stars. This week, I took a chance on getting some coffee and seeing a smile from anyone on staff. What an incredible improvement on staff selections and training! I went in for just a coffee. Before I paid, I ordered a croissant because the man taking my order asked me a few engaging questions about my day. While waiting for my coffee, I continued to observe the other workers. They didn't ignore customers while communicating with each other. They were upbeat and appeared to be very happy. When my coffee was ready, the barista didn't just call my name, he actually smiled and made a nice comment directly to me. This was a very pleasant experience. This Peats far outshines every small coffee house I've visted in the past five years, maybe even further back. I would love to know more about the training that went into this transformation. They were not the same workers as before, but even the best people need training, and this had to be a result of great training. Thank you Peats! Oh, and the coffee was good. read more

If I could rate an establishment zero stars on yelp, I would reserve that for this coffee shop. Let me just say, I am not picky when it comes to customer service. You don't have to go above and beyond to please me as a server, just smile and be semi cordial. To say that the barista was rude would be the worlds biggest understatement. This was, quite possibly, the worst experience I've ever had at a coffee shop. When we didn't hear her say can I take your order, she actually yelled at us. Yelled. She acted like it was a severe inconvenience for her to take our order. I work in customer service, and I was absolutely shocked at how rude and unfriendly this woman was. Peets could've pulled just about anyone off the street to work and they could've done a better job. Completely, 100% unacceptable. When we didn't hear her say which drink was which, we asked to repeat herself to which she painfully obliged before barking "that's what I just said". Spare yourself the pain of going through what I went through and go to the Starbucks a block over. I live on the west coast, so we do not have Peets. If we did, I would never go there again because of this experience. read more
