After looking at the menu I got a order of New York steak and eggs and it had no flavor at alll, the eggs and the hash browns had no flavor as well. If you like super awkward situations and meh food, this place is for you! Complete with the dusty atmosphere, the waitresses seem nice, but couldn't really tell you because after ordering out waitress wouldn't make eye contact with us again. The other waitress on shift ended up coming over and asking us what we ordered because there had been food sitting on the counter. It was ours. The same waitress (not ours) brought our refills about 10 minutes later, when she sat them down she told us that she had told our waitress we needed refills but noticed they still weren't on our table so that's why she brought them. After that, the other waitress avoided us as well since we weren't her table. This happened to 3 other tables, when we were there... we all had the same waitress who just ghosted. Turns out she was up at the front talking and hanging up shirts. She had to ring our order because she never gave us our check and acted like nothing happened asking us how our food was So weird. I would have given 3 stars, but then about 2 hours later the stomach cramps started. Seems both my husband and I had the pleasure of eating something spoiled. My lemonaid was watery and I've had better. The vegetables with my dinner were bland. But the bad drove this down a full star. My steak was tough and flavorless. We saw the big sign driving up to Utah. We have a stop over at Mesquite, and decided to eat here. It was slow, and only few people were eating. It was well decorated and very homey. We were greeted nicely and had our drinks ready. The waitress was really hospitable. She was dressed in an old diner uniform. She took our order, and it took several good minutes to have our food. She even helped us explaning some of the dishes. She was even honest about the macaroni and cheese. The food were fresh, hot, and delicious. There were no leftovers. Then, we decided to get dessert. She explained well what they were. We pretty much devoured the whole thing. The gentleman cleaning and serving was very friendly. He saw us taking picture so I believe, he made our brownie blast with love and care! Seeing him smile made our day. We gave them $15 tip for first impression. I guess that big billboard sign on the I-15 Freeway worked! Check this place out! Additional points: - they had books to read. Stopped by here last evening; it was insanely crowded, so I understand the extended delay; however, I don't believe it should've taken nearly an hour just for our beverages to arrive. Our server checked on us a maximum of two times, didn't refill our drinks, and after we finally got our meal two hours later, she handed us our check 5 minutes later and didn't see us again. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here nor was the food up to any kind of minimum expectations we could have lowered ourselves to having. The reason I gave 2 stars instead of a 1 star is because my husband did have a great banana split. I had the chicken and avocado sandwich with fries. The chicken was so over cooked I could barely bite through it. I ended up taking out all the chicken and eating the bread cheese and avocados. The fries were ok but kind of greasy for me. I asked for ranch dressing for the sandwich and the fries...I did not want to ask if it was homemade as I probably would have been sick at the table if our waitress answered no..it was separating and looked like it was spoiled. Three of us popped in Saturday morning for a late breakfast. The host was rolling silverware within eyesight but did not greet us. When she completed her task she seated us at a booth near the front. We waited quite a while before anyone came to our table, long enough for all of us to decide on what we were having. When someone finally stopped by, we were informed that they could only take our drink orders. After another wait (my daughter at this point noted that we had been there for half an hour), our drinks arrived. When the server finally came to our table, she didn't say hello, only "what can I get you". The one thing positive I can say about our experience is that our order was correct and the food was really good. It was also fun to see the second server interact with her customers (three of her tables arrived after us and received their food before us). Definitely a spot for tourists to stop on the way to Vegas or Arizona or just taking a ride for the day and that is exactly what we were doing. Decided to try something other than casino restaurants. I ordered meatloaf and husband ordered fried chicken. My food came first and husband's took a while longer. He finally got his and started eating the chicken. It was raw in the middle and literally ice cold. By then I was almost done with mine - waitress told him they would make him a new plate - he said don't bother. They didn't seem real concerned that they were serving raw chicken. If food isn't great we'll usually give a second chance but no thanks on possibly getting undercooked food. read more

Well, I gave this place one more chance. It failed to deliver yet again. One can safely assume Peggy Sue's 50's Diner has totally lost it's soul. There's no character left. The heart has all but stopped beating. It's identity is lost to uncaring employees and management that has apparently given up all hope. By looking around inside, you would not be able to tell this is supposed to be a 50's diner. The staff is dressed in contemporary street clothing. The decor is below bland. There is no music playing. In fact, the jukebox has been decommissioned and the space that would normally display the songs that are available now holds the food menu. The experience here is worse than going to a corporate coffee shop. As I have written before, I really wanted this place to work. It seems that they have taken their cue from their previous identity, Home Plate Diner, and has struck out. read more

We recently moved to Mesquite and we're looking for a great place to eat. This is not the place. We typically give a restaurant 2 chances but both times the food was horrible. Undercooked Cod, horrible instant potatoes, a breakfast burrito that had only red and green peppers with no eggs or meat, soup that was like drinking water with a few vegetables floating in it. We complained about the food and the restaurant manager would not even acknowledge the complaint and only wanted our money. At least he could have acknowledged the fact that were were dissatisfie. If you are hungry and find Peggy Sue's it will serve you well. It's a hometown diner featuring a theme of the 50s--sort of. The atmosphere is somewhat tired, but it is clean and the servers were prompt and pleasant. Husband had spaghetti with a good meat sauce and garlic bread. It was good and portion was good too. I had an Asian chicken salad, which was more expensive than the spaghetti. It was romaine lettuce, some crunchy noodles, mandarin oranges, a sprinkle of almonds, some chicken nuggets and a lemon juice sugar mayo dressing on the side and flakes of parmesan cheese. honestly would give 0 starts, negative if possible. we waited an hour to be seated, which wasn't a big deal. once we were seated, there were maybe 5 families in the restaurant. we didn't get spoken to for 20-25 minutes. we got our food an hour later and then ordered ice cream. the waitress made me repeat what i wanted twice, and still messed it up. they proceeded to take the incorrect order off our table after leaving it there for 5 minutes. when we asked for to go cups because they took 30 minutes making the already melted shake. we waited another 20 minutes, then decided to grab our own behind the counter. they didn't even care we were back there. not to mention the bathroom was absolutely tremendous. no soap, no toilet paper and no towels. yikes! read more

I went here with my son and his girlfriend after a high school track meet. We're from Vegas, and when we saw there was a "Peggy Sue's" we instantly decided to go there based on our dozens of amazing visits to the one in California. Unfortunately, this one is the same in name only. We did get greeted & seated promptly, & the waitress was fairly quick about getting our orders even though it was busy. Everything seemed clean & organized. After placing our orders that was pretty much the end of having anything positive to say. Probably close to 45 minutes after we'd placed our order and still didn't have our food (by this time it wasn't busy) the waitress finally noticed us trying to get her attention and came over apologizing for the wait. Apparently the kitchen was overwhelmed with bar orders. 10-15 minutes later we finally got our food. I had the French Dip with brown gravy for the fries. The beef on the French dip was severely overcooked and dry. There was literally crunchy parts, it was almost black, and the meat crumbled. The au jus to dip it in was soooo salty it overpowered everything. And the gravy for the fries.... I've never heard of beer gravy but I swear it tasted like beer. The fries themselves were just standard run of the mill fries. Nothing to complain about, nothing to brag about. (Except after I'd smothered them in gravy they were basically inedible because the gravy was so bad. My son had the Reuben. The meat wasn't spread out on the sandwich, so while his first bite or 2 he thought it was great, the rest was basically 90% sauerkraut that hadn't been drained enough making the bread soggy. His girlfriend had a chicken sandwich which was the only ok thing that came to our table. Before we'd even finished the waitress was at the table asking if we needed take out boxes and giving us the bill. That was the last time we saw her. She never came back to see if we needed drink refills (we obviously did), or wanted dessert (the kids did but we couldn't find her). Now for ambiance.... it's "ok" but definitely not "Peggy Sue's" worthy. No music, neon by cash around the ceiling not working, well worn red vinyl booth seats that could definitely use some repairs, bright lights, bright colors. A too modern imitation. The ham was covered with black char from the dirty grill that was never scraped clean. My over easy eggs were over hard and my hash browns was soggy and full of grease. Salad was just OK. Tuna wasn't well drained, so the salad was very watery. Salad included artichoke, but the leaves were left on... I'd recommend using just the hearts as the leaves are tough, chewy, and not really good. Would've been nice to have had boiled eggs in the salad. read more

I initially gave two stars but switched it to three. We had a very interesting experience this evening for dinner. There was a wait about a half hour, but that was fine. Actually I'm glad that they were busy and they seem d to be doing well during this environment. We were seated in the bar area. We got our drinks in a relatively short amount of time. After about a half hour of waiting I asked the young man who brought us our beverages if it would be possible to order some food. He said he would find us a waitress. About 10 minutes later she came back, and told us she didn't know that anyone was seated in this area. There was one other table besides us. I'm not sure I understand the theory behind seating parties in a section, but not assigning wait staff to service that area. One of the children in our party ordered a grilled cheese without the ham. She said that was fine. When our food came out about a half hour later she brought the sandwich to the table and said "this is a grilled ham and cheese but you ordered just a grilled cheese correct?" After being told that that was correct, she said she would bring back just a grilled cheese, which she did about 10 minutes later. I'm not sure I understand why she brought out the sandwich if she knew it was wrong. No one checked on us while we were eating. After we finished we waited about 15 more minutes, and then I flagged down our waitress in the main dining area so that we could get our bills. She had one of our two bills with her. She told me that my bill would be up at the front register. We went to the front register and waited about five more minutes until someone came out. She said she didn't know what we had to eat so she literally placed three receipts in front of me on the table top and asked me to pick which one was ours. Never before in my life when eating in a restaurant have I been allowed to choose my own bill! And finally the food: the food was fine. It really did not stand out to me like it has in the past. It was average. I would say the food rated three out of five stars. The service and the customer care probably 1/2 star. Hopefully this was an aberration.
