This particular location was the very first Black Bear Diner that I've even been to. Or even have heard of them years ago. Same as before, it was coming from a road trip. This visit, driving back to LA from Monument Valley. Also made a pit stop for gas. The location is just off the freeway in a little strip with a hotel. Which I've stayed at and tried this place for the first time. It's alway packed here so it's a good thing for them. It was about 30 minutes wait when we walked in but got seated around 10 minutes later. Busy of course. Menu wise, there's literally everything on it. It's like reading a newspaper. There was three of us and a mixture of meals was had. I alway love the chicken fried steak here. It's a massive potion so be warned. There's a smaller order but why not go big. That's served with gravy, house potatoes or hash browns, eggs and biscuits. The biscuits alone is the size of a baseball. Then the tri tip meal with onion rings and cole slaw. And a chicken Cobb salad. Let me just say, the size of the salad was enough to feed 2 maybe 3 people. It was enormous. Food wise, everything was good. The only thing this time, the chicken fried steak was a bit overcooked and crunchy. Even with the gravy, it was still too much. But besides that, the meal was nice. Service was amazing. Our waitress was excellent. Don't remember her name but she was so sweet and friendly. Refills were always touched up without asking. Everyone working was a doll. You pay at the register up front where there's also a little gift shop with everything. Apparels, toys, souvenirs, slippers down to boxers and pajamas. This is my second time at a black bear diner location and unfortunately will be my last. I originally went to the location by knotts berry farm in LA and was impressed. So when visiting family in St. George, I was proactive and chose a spot instead of leaving every decision up to them. Man do I look like a fool now! The food was unappetizing and the place was quite loud. Portions were huge but it seemed they were quite passionate about the concept of "quantity over quality" Our server Kami was wonderful and kept this place from getting 1 star, she was friendly and attentive and I hope the Diner knows they've got a future MVP doing charity work in the minor leagues with her working there. We didn't get seen til 10 mins later, our drinks didn't come til 10 mins after that, and we got no beverage refills. The ambience here is such a bummer for Black Bear. Thus place actually borders on disgusting in Decor, I was hoping they would redo it! They actually just put tile like wood in the lobby one of the little rooms and down a walkway. They left the thread bear dark green carpet and the rest of the areas and the tables need to be replaced. The booths are old and the windows and the blinds are really dirty. I cannot eat in this environment. I would recommend finding somewhere else to eat. I would normally give Black Bear a four star, because the food at our restaurant in Vegas and Southern California is good and the environment is quite different. This was my first time to Utah and this restaurant and Iʻm from Hawaii! It waz so cute and cozy! They were all welcoming and friendly! The food was delicious especially my Tti-Tip sandwich! We have ate at both locations while visiting family in St George and this particular location is just run down and it just feels dirty. The food we ordered tasted fine. My spouses hash browns were way under cooked but other than everything else tasted okay, not great, but okay. On a day trip to Utah we stopped in for an early dinner. We wanted breakfast for dinner. I ordered a Denver Omelette with hash browns. He ordered a scramble with country fries. Both amazing, eggs cooked great - we prefer the red potatoes not the hash browns. If you get hash browns we'd recommend asking for them well done. You do have to bring your appetite, the portions are more than generous. Coffee good. Service was also friendly from the front desk team, waiter and the bus team. We will be back. read more

I really don't like leaving negative reviews-look at my stats, you'll see that the majority lean very positive. However, Black Bear Diner in St. George earned this one. First, I'll start with the positive. Our server was terrific-charismatic, attentive and friendly. He's the reason for the extra star, otherwise it would be solidly at a one. I felt bad for him, he was incredibly busy with lots of tables, so I didn't bring up our concerns to him-but maybe I should have. My family and I dined for dinner last night and the next morning, I'm making runs to the store for Imodium and other tummy-calming items since my wife has been sick all night. Food poisoning is the suspect, and since all three of us ate different things, it makes sense that we are not all sick. I had the pot roast with a side salad. My salad tasted so strongly of onions that it was difficult to eat. Oddly, there were no onions on it at all-I think a knife that was used to cut onions was also used to cut the lettuce. My pot roast was mediocre at best and lukewarm. My wife had the BLT, and said it was not great. We think it was the mayo that caused the all night tummy issues, but we can't be sure. My son had the turkey club and only ate about half of it citing that it didn't taste good. (He's an 18 year old growing human who will eat most anything.) Both my wife and son mentioned that their fries were cold and not good either. I think we will steer clear of this location in the future. I doubt my business will be missed, judging by the full parking lot and dining area. But as more people have experiences like ours, I can't imagine they will stay around for long. read more

I absolutely love Black Bear Diner. Over the years, my family and I have dined here in a few different states. When on vacation, we always chose to eat here over the other predictable chains, because we know the quality of food is great, the food options are plentiful, and the portion sizes are satisfying. Speaking of portion sizes... OMG, they are huge. The amount of food you received here is well worth the cost, and you will definitely walk away stuffed and satisfied that you got every bite of your money's worth. For the kiddos, they definitely have something for even the pickiest of kids. There are also options for vegans, vegetarians, as well as meat lovers. On our visit, we arrive on a Sunday around 4pm. There were only a few other diners there when we walked in. We were quickly greeted and sat at a booth. Our server was friendly, welcoming, and prompt to take our order. The food arrived hot, fresh, and was fantastic as usual. For the most part, the restaurant and bathrooms were pretty clean. The carpet really needed to be swept, but I'm sure that's probably because they must've had a busy breakfast/brunch crowd. Overall, we had a great visit here. No special accommodations or sequestered seating, guests with pets just mix into the dining-room; perhaps more practically in a booth seat. The seating can seem a bit too close at or near capacity but overall comfortable. Plenty of menu choices, should provide something for everyone. Ordered the Rack of Pork Ribs and a bowl of Chili. The sides included a baked potato, and butter-nut squash, served with butter and sour-cream. Overall the meal was fresh, tasty and well portioned for some leftovers to take home. Black Bear food is fresh and delicious. It's always perfectly cooked to order. The atmosphere is nice with lots of families with children. And, the waiters and waitresses are fast, and always get the order correct. They ask if I need a refill of my coffee without me having to flag them down. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. I gave it 1 star because I had to. We use to eat here all the time. Food was great, portions were enough, biscuits and gravy to die for. The last two times we were there for breakfast it was a HORRIBLE waste of money. My husband ordered steak and eggs...I Ordered a Han steak and eggs. My husband got 3 thin slices of brisket that looked like it had been boiled to heat it up. Tough as leather. My ham steak??? It was a piece of lunch meat cut in quarters. I was served 1/4 of it. Not sure who got punished with the other 3 pieces. It was so dried out it was almost jerky. We didn't eat. We paid our bill and left. Won't go back and waste my money there again. I know the economy is bad and I don't have a problems paying more for what I order. I do however have a problem paying more for less and disgusts quality. Shame on you Black Bear!!!! read more

I came here for breakfast twice during my visit in Utah for Zion National Park and I cannot say I was disappointed! The food was great--big portion sizes with decent prices! We ordered the waffles, which came with fruit, butter, and syrup. We also ordered their veggie omelette which had very generous portions with a side of your choice of bread. The service was quick, too. The waiters were polite and quick. The ambiance is that of other black bear diners, it was like a typical diner, but also homey-like. I've dined many times at this location with good experiences and nice food and portions. With limited options for Sunday, I sent my event staff to pick up take out dinners for our group. The food was horrible. One person ordered chicken fingers. The portion was tiny, the fries were soggy and the coke slaw was mostly tasteless dressing. Another person ordered salmon. It smelled disgustingly fishy and was over cooked. Another ordered fish and chips. Again soggy fries. The fish batter wasn't crispy and it also stunk to high heaven. I've eaten here in the past over the last decade with never a problem however tonight we received cold and undercooked pork ribs that were served cold. When getting the manager involved No true compensation was provided despite our ask. They ended up charging us for the sides we nibbled on which the bill ended up costing us more than the meals. Really? Now we leave with only sides partly eaten and hoping we do not get sick from the cold pork ribs served and eaten. The waitress did her best to serve us with a smile but when the manager showed no concern we realized- true customer service does not exist here under her reign. We could be severely sick from what they served us and the management does not care. SMH‍ We live in a whole new brave world. Left hungry and over charged. Since I live in New Jersey and Diners are a staple here. I can say this place lived up to being an excellent diner. Lots of different menu choices and very reasonably priced. We had a group of 10 people and everyone loved all the food they got. And all the staff were very nice and accommodating. I would recommend checking this place out. The restaurant has great theming and atmosphere with incorporating a bear. The service was fantastic, the waiter was very accommodating, attentive and provided recommendations. We ordered the pot roast and the grizzy, The pot roast was okay with not much defining flavors, the fries we had were soggy and our mashed potatoes were strangely cold. With the grizzy breakfast, was better but the sausage was also cold. Portions for this restaurant are big so be ready to eat.
