toast was crispy, light, and full of flavor with an added egg to make it a fritter style toast. Whatever raspberry drizzle they put on top is unreal, some of the best I've had and it nixed the need for syrup. The bacon was crispy and the blueberry wild rice sausage was an absolutely standout. I'd come back just for that blueberry sausage. It's local, fresh, juicy, and doesn't have the weird texture of ground meat. There were probably 20 blueberries in the sausage and the wild rice was a great texture addition. I can't recommend this place enough, absolutely will be back and it's worth every minute of the drive.

This is what we have been looking for! My husband and I have been looking for a diner that has that good ol' classic, off the highway look and this is it! We've been here about half a dozen times now. The service is spectacular! Wow! We were immediately charmed by our waitress: great smile, peppy attitude, and attentive service! If you're over in the west metro, you need to try Peg's Countryside Cafe. We lived down the road and it had been my on my list for awhile, so we came in for Sunday brunch. The country style look of the cafe is so darling, and the chicken outside is an eye catcher. breakfast proteins. It also has green pepper, tomato, onion, and cheddar cheese on top of roasted red potatoes. Can't forget the toast on the side. We also shared a warm cinnamon roll ($3.50). We loved everything we had. You NEED to get a cinnamon roll, it makes you want to happy dance upon first bite. It's soft and oh so delectable. I noticed the corned beef was canned corned beef, but I thought the saltiness of it worked really well on a benny. I wish the corned beef could have been on the pan a little longer, but past that, I really liked it. The poached egg was perfect. My boyfriend's skillet was great and the only small critique he had was that they didn't actually put that much meat in the dish despite saying it includes 4 breakfast proteins. He got more veggies, potatoes, and cheese than meat. Peg's Countryside has a parking lot and is right beside McDonald's, so don't get confused and accidentally turn into their parking lot; the two lots unfortunately don't connect.

Picturesque and authentic full of regulars. Service was excellent with servers friendly and good arrival prompt. I had plenty of questions about ingredients and staff was patient and had a great attitude. The pies looked tempting but are made with lard for anyone with a correlating dietary restriction.

Didn't know I was going to find my new favorite breakfast spot in a cute little unsuspecting building off the highway. The decor is so precious, farmhouse-esque with cute chickens and roosters everywhere. You can smell the quality of the food before you even get inside. There's front and back parking so plenty of space for everyone and a front and back entrance (back entrance has two steps in case of accessibility). We were greeted with a smile and told to sit wherever. Our server had the best breakfast recs and filled us in on all the menu favorites. She was so friendly and brought our food out so quickly. A very friendly place with lots of menu options. All of of the menu items sounded very tempting. The waitress was absolutely the best that I have ever had. I must have felt very hungry because I dove right in and forgot to photograph my plate. The only thing I can complain about is that I seem to have developed the ability to pick up on the taste of other foods in the oil that ends up being used to fry potatoes in. I'm not sure if that is because restaurants are being more frugal with their supplies or my taste buds have become more discriminating. Maybe I use less pepper Tabasco and ketchup now. The pie to go seemed a little pricey @ $25. My wife seemed to think they had a great reputation for their pies. I'm going to suggest you get your whole pies at Perkins both because they are a better value but also the taste much better. If you are going to try this place on a Sunday go early or be prepared to wait.

Solid 4* breakfast at Peg's Countryside Cafe. We split a Corned Beef Benedict and an order of Cinnamon Roll French Toast. The Benedict was probably 3* but the Cinnamon Roll French Toast was really good! Service was good and the experience was exactly what you would expect from an old school breakfast cafe on Highway 55!

Got a breakfast from this cafe! Veggie omelette and French toasts. Both the items sucked. Omelette was really bland and had no flavor at all. Went early around 730am during a snow storm. No wait ! I ordered an omelette with sausage, bacon, tomato's, and jalepenyos. Food came out in less than ten minutes and was pretty good. Amazing local diner. Everyone is super friendly and the food is absolutely amazing. I had their stuffed French toast and I will be going back for more! This place is amazing! It's a cute little diner/cafe in the suburbs. We stopped by on Saturday afternoon and it was packed. We only had to wait 15 mins though which was pretty good. I ordered the breakfast burrito which was so good. My husband had the fried chicken wrap that came with a side of the best fries ever! I also tried some pancakes. The pancakes were so fluffy and perfect. I'll be back! read more

It is one of our favorite places, the food is delicious, but today we were a bit disappointed, since the waitress who served us practically rushed us to eat, her treatment was not good, I do not know if maybe she had a bad day or I was tired. I sat down and the waiters walked past me and it took them 5 minutes to come ask me what I wanted to drink and another 5 minutes to bring me my drink, after 10 minutes an old white family sat down and a waiter immediately brought them menus and asked what they wanted to drink? and after 15 minutes the waitress who came back and asked me if anyone took my order? I said that I never even got a menu to order food.I also noticed that I was the only person of color trying to eat there so I went next door to McDonalds and got service immediately. read more

It pains me to write this review because this little diner has personality, and the tex mex egg scramble I had on my first visit (and the sausage egg dish my husband had) were delicious. I was excited to try the French toast on our second visit. This is the kind of place where you would expect great French toast! But not only was it not great - it was not even good. It was basically bread (dry mostly, except for a thin layer on top that MIGHT have been dipped in batter), fried in butter. It tasted like bread fried in butter. :-( What a disappointment. Also, not to be a French toast snob, but the syrup they offer is a tub of maple-flavored Cub brand syrup It's not even real syrup - just high fructose corn syrup that is supposed to taste like maple syrup. I guess I expected more from this diner. Next time, I will go to The Original Pancake House in Plymouth; their cinnamon French toast is the best in the area (in my opinion). read more

You gotta love any restaurant that has stuck around for a long time and still serves good food. I've never been here for lunch, but breakfast is always a solid choice. They consistently have rotating specials on their chalkboard. They offer sit down counter service and table service so you can get the full diner experience...if that's what you're looking for. I just look for a solid breakfast. Any of the breakfast items are ridiculously good. The omelets come in under $10...and are very tasty and affordable. They also have homemade sausage that is out of this world. Peg's gets an A from me. They also have crazy shit on the wall and ceilings. Oh! aaaand it's in the fine town of Hamel! Best breakfast place in the Twin Cities area. Food is excellent, with a wide variety of choices. The "Build Your Own Breakfast" special is very reasonably priced @ $8.50. Bacon and eggs are always done as asked for. Service is very welcoming and friendly. We have been coming here on a regular basis for 15 years and will continue to do so. read more

I feel odd giving a "greasy spoon" type of restaurant five stars, but among its peer group, this place is exceptional. The atmosphere can be described as kitschy to the nth degree. The service is lightning fast - Stephanie was outstanding. The food comes out unbelievably quick, and my Farmer's Skillet was hearty and just delicious. My friend's Reuben also looked delicious. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to others. read more

If I was a selfish person, I would say to never go here so I don't have to wait for a table. But I'm not a selfish person. Had breakfast here on Father's Day and it was very busy. Even still, the staff was all incredibly nice and the food was excellent. Even though nothing was noted as being gluten-free on the menu, my waitress knew everything that was safe for me to have. (The wildrice blueberry sausage was gf, the normal sausage was not) They also had gf toast. Couldn't ask for more! read more

What a gem! We have patronized this establishment twice and both times it was an excellent experience. The food is great, the portion sizes are adequate, the quality is there, the service is good, and the prices are right. And we have met Peg. This restaurant is based out of a house, is cozy, and homie. Peg's Country Side Cafe is hands down the best breakfast stop in the area. This place fills up quick so get their early to minimize your wait time. read more

Yummy! Went with the family for breakfast. It was crowded, but very cozy! You can't go wrong with any of Peg's pancakes or waffles. It was a rainstorm that morning and they lost power for about 5 minutes. The crowd just laughed and the waitstaff just kept on serving. Impressive. read more

I'm a first timer at Peg's Countryside Cafe and I was thoroughly impressed! From the outside, the restaurant is very quaint, you can tell it's been standing for 40 years. On the inside it's really small but feels homey. The staff was very friendly and seated us immediately. I couldn't help but admire all the pictures on the walls, as there was 100s of them. The coffee was delicious and hot as expected. I tried the breakfast skillet and it was perfect. The portions are well sized out and the prices are low. There were a lot of delicious breakfast options on the menu I'd love to go back and try. They also have lunch options. They serve breakfast and lunch all day until they close at 3pm. Overall it was such a good experience. I'd love to go back. This is your typical "ma and pa" cafe. read more

This is old place with dark smelly carpets and well worn off interiors, which just reflects its past glory days. What was more disappointing was the food which was well below average. Nothing tasted like it should... I ordered skillet which was bland and smelled of stale veggies. The potatoes were grossly under cooked. Even the coffee was bad. Peg's Countryside Cafe is the perfect side-of-the-road breakfast diner that oozes Midwest charm. On our first visit, we tried the short stack of blueberry pancakes and the blueberry wild rice sausage--absolutely delightful! The blueberries were impressively large, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The service was exceptional--friendly, attentive, and truly made us feel at home. The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially considering the generous portions and the quality of the home-style cooking. We also loved the decor--photos of their patrons spanning years covered the walls, adding a cozy and nostalgic vibe. This is more than just a diner; it's a community spot with heart. Pegs is my favorite place to eat in the Plymouth area. In a sea of chains, Pegs countryside kitchen is the only mom-and-pop with genuine care and soul - and incidentally great home cooking as well.
