    From the Patio!
    Gina Z.

Rock Elm is a casual eatery great for drinks and bar bites, offering happy hour, lunch, dinner, and Brunch on the weekends. There are two options for seating - MN weather permitting: indoor or patio seating. Indoors, you'll find a huge bar that includes an area for standing and watching one of the many TVs; there is also an indoor golf simulator area. I have not played in the indoor golf area, but I did notice it upon entry, and it seemed to be a fun space, as people gathered were having drinks, eating food, and playing. The patio dining is cozy, although on the evening I went, I was only able to enjoy it for a short time, as we were literally chewed up by mosquitoes in the patio area. The server was incredibly kind and accommodating, relocating us indoors. To that, the service at Rock Elm (from the hostess to the server, food runners, etc.) is exceptionally hospitable and friendly. Our server was attentive to our table without overwhelming us. The adult drinks at Rock Elm aren't overpriced (average $13); they offer a Selection of Beer, Wine, and cocktails. I tried the "Pillow Princess" from the cocktail menu, which I found to be sweet and refreshing. You can search online for their Happy Hour menu, highlighting weekly deals. The food at Rock Elm, I would categorize as elevated bar bites. They offer a few fried starters, wings, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and a couple of soups and salads. I started with the "Housemade Tots," which are stuffed with two types of cheeses, served with a housemade bacon ketchup. I enjoyed the portion, freshness, and crispness of the tots. Each one is perfectly fried to a crunchy perfection on the outside, and as soon as you bite into one, the creaminess of the cheese filling dissolves in your mouth. Truly a delicious bite, with or without the bacon ketchup. This was definitely my favorite bite of the night. I had a "Shrimp Po' Boy" as my main meal. The "Shimp Po' Boy" was okay. The shrimp were fried perfectly, but the batter was significantly underseasoned. Served with fries, which unfortunately were also underseasoned. I only hate half of my Po' Boy. This was actually my second time visiting Rock Elm. A few months ago, I came in for Brunch and wasn't too impressed with my meal. I wanted to give them a second chance, which is why I came in for dinner. I wouldn't say it didn't go well; however, aside from the Housemade tots, all the other food items our table ordered fell flat in terms of seasoning and flavors. I didn't find the "wow" factor to justify the price/value/meal. This was the same "issue" when I visited for Brunch. It wasn't a bad meal, but it didn't make enough of an impact on me (again) to warrant a return visit.

The food was very good here, and I thought the value was reasonable. We really enjoyed the patio seating, it's enclosed nicely with foliage, but there is still quite a bit of road noise with it being so close to HWY 55. The service was friendly, and overall I would certainly recommend this place. They had a lot pretty good variety of options on their menu, while keeping it to one page to make the choices feel simple. I would certainly recommend checking it out!

Mahi Tacos. Very messy, but very tasty.

Good happy hour spot Untappd verified and badge They could rotate more They have a progressive happy hour every day from 3 to 6 depending on how early you can get there. $4 off beers, spirits, wines, starters & wings from 3 to 4! Amazing deal! $3 off from 4 to 5. $2 off from 5 to 6. I work nearby so have only been able to indulge in the bottom tier 5 to 6 prices. They have had an Untappd Badge as long as I can remember. Slowly leveling up on it. They give you a free ten ounce beer for every even numbered level up on Untappd. The first time they let me use it on any beer. The second time it was more restricted as to what I could choose from. The food has been hit or miss for me. I definitely recommend the Mahi Mahi Tacos!

Food was delicious and loved my smoothie sour! Hadn't ever had anything like it and they were very vegan friendly as well. Will be coming back for sure

Checked out Rock Elm for a late lunch! Sat outside on the beautiful open patio. Tons of seating in the shade and the sun! Boneless wings- honestly tasted like cut up chicken fingers. Couldn't really taste the lemon ranch dry rub. Bloody Mary- pretty good but only served with an olive and a lime with a beer chaser. VAT 19 burger- really good! Lots of fresh arugula on it. Fries were ok. Watermelon salad- so yummy and the watermelon was very good this day! I would recommend getting some protein on it to make it more filling. Also a great thing to share! Our server was great and talkative and recommended a few things to us! Checking in on us and very cheerful! Service was quick!

I live in Golden Valley and was excited to finally check out this place! I've always been hesitant because the prices are pretty high for tavernesk food, but if you're looking to treat yourself I'd say the quality was well worth it! My partner had the Dry Heat Burger. He NEVER compliments food, and said it was great! It wasn't too messy and packed a punch. I had the beef Stroganoff ravioli. Holy cow - two of my favorite things combined for this absolutely delicious meal. We also split the boneless wings. Well worth it! The sauce was tasty but not hot. They were crunchy which I loved! And the ranch on the side??? I need more of it next time for sure! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The speed of the service was super fast! There was no wait on a Thursday night, though it was busy! Drinks were expensive too, but they had a great selection of beers on top. Overall would visit again for another date night!

Fish & rock chips... stick with a burger!

Busy place! Great service! Loved the tots! They aren't anything like the ones you had in your school lunch as a kid. I promise they are waaay better! Stick with the burgers though. The fish was thin and dry. The beet salad was just ok. (Obviously I am not a meat eater... and this is a meat eater place.) Fun vibe in a neat part of town. Next time there are still a couple veg things I can try. I will probably be back. Just not the top of my list.

    French dip and fries.

First, I loved the vibe. You walk in past the entryway to an open bar area with big windows, or there is an option to sit outside in a large patio that is still seemingly secluded from the busy traffic nearby. It was warm and welcoming and the service was top notch- our server, the manager and someone from the kitchen- everyone was working and helping each other even though it wasn't particularly busy for a lunch. That kind of team work is outstanding. The soup of the day was a miss for us, it was a broth with some veggies and possibly rice or potato bits and was bland. Our burger and French dip was good and a good size for lunch. He had the Vat 17 with tator tots that look like hush puppies and I had the French dip, which was very good with the toppings. I enjoyed the atmosphere and service and the food was good, I would definitely go back for another try.

Nice decor for a suburban joint. Our waiter was great, prompt, attentive, good suggestions. Loved the Chilequiles, mahi tacos and breakfast sandwiches tacos. The Gouda hash browns were killer too! Great tap selections, this place is a winner.

She was so kind and personable as well! The patio was also great and not too loud other than motorcycles passing. We started off with ordering the walleye tacos entree but just ate it as an app since we were hungry! The tacos were huge and the walleye was good but we wish there was more. The pineapple salsa was also delicious but there was a lot of it and it really empowered the walleye unfortunately . The fries were great as well! We wouldn't recommend the BLT pictured. Not sure what happened but we probably should've sent it back but we just aren't that kind of people and we eat what we get. I got a salad but modified it so I didn't want to show a pic that isn't accurate of the salad. It was the apple buttermilk and it was good! Overall good experience and I do believe we would go back but order different items next time! Would have been a 4 but struggling with the BLT.

I was greeted by the hostess outside and although the patio looks lovely it was 96* and I opted for inside (I do not live in MN for the heat!). There are lots of fun photos on the wall and soccer team banners hanging from the ceiling. After being seated I was immediately given water and silverware and looked over the menu. There is a good cocktail, wine, and beer menu with Guinness, of course, and several Irish whiskeys. My server, Bill, was a delight. We talked about our dogs (mini dachshund for me, Malinois for him) and our shared love of Costa Rica. I ended up ordering the French Onion soup and a Lobster Roll with fries. The soup came out first and it was just as sumptuous and beefy as I hoped. The melted Gruyère and caramelized onions made a hearty starter. The Lobster Roll was perfect: chopped lobster on a warm, buttered, toasted roll topped with slivers of pickled carrots. The lobster was chilled and didn't need any dressing at all. The fries were plentiful, thin, and perfectly crispy yet still tender inside. A home run. Excellent food, warm and welcoming atmosphere, and terrific staff made it a delightful lunch. Thanks, Bill! ;)

I normally don't mind slow service if the restaurant is busy, but it was not busy, our server just kept walking past us. The food was okay. We got an app (waffle fries) and I got a burger and my fiancé got the French dip. Overpriced for what it was - I was expecting something more. Only bottled/canned beer. The ambiance was not my favorite. The lights above the table were very bright and there was no decor so the place was echoey. There looked to be a counter that you could order food to go at, but not sure what that was all about. It was a confusing layout for what I thought was a sit down restaurant. Overall I was really looking forward to trying this local restaurant, but I don't need to go back.
