Food is pretty good considering that there aren't many good options to choose from here in Nacogdoches. The Mongolian beef was tender, and the rice was fluffy, but it lacked flavor overall. So I needed to add quite a bit of spicy chili oil, and if you don't like heat , like I do, you're gonna have to add plenty soy sauce..And the egg drop soup was good , but the egg roll was not crispy, and I like an egg roll that has a crunch when you bite into it. About 6:45 I asked what was taking so long, after 3-4 ppl had placed a order after me had got their food. The little girl kept opening up the food saying it wasn't right, so 6:59 I finally got my COLD food wasn't VERY HAPPY with no explanation on what HAPPENED. NO SORRY,NO KISS MY ASS. NOTHING. There is nothing I can say positive about our Food or Service!! Went through drive thru so Ambiance is not at issue. Food was flavorless and showed signs of being burnt. Spent almost $60. 3 orders were Yuk! I order was excellent, thus the 1Star!!! The Service was rude and unprofessional! One order was spicy Bean Curd! (We said V 2, under Vegetables). We repeated slowly and clearly to her. She read back the order twice. We heard her say 2 times-- Spicy Bean Curd Which was what we ordered. We received B7 Spicy Beef when order was brought out to us. Immediately the mgr on duty came out andTOLD us, she had read the order back to us twice and we should have listened better! If we wanted V2, Spicy Bean Curd, We would have to pay the full price again. We spoke in clear English, she spoke in a broken foreign accent very fast. When speaking back to us at order taking time, she spoke slower and clearer. All of us in the car heard her say Spicy Bean Curd. We believe she just pushed the wrong item on the register.I am not being racist because I am the same ancestry as her. However I was not the one placing the order. This review is in two parts, the food, and the restaurant. My usual restaurant review starts with. "It amazes me what people think is good food." Not this time. The only thing I can say is WOW! Since moving to Texas 10 years ago, I have found only 2 Chinese restaurants that were really good. This is my third. The egg drop soup, as good as anywhere I've had it. It does not come with fried noodles so order those separately if that's what you like in the soup. Egg rolls are hand made and excellent. Kung Pao chicken - wonderful, but I would have liked it spicier. Pot stickers were larger that most places. They were enjoyable but not noteworthy. Spicy chicken egg roll - not so good but nobody's perfect. The chicken on a stick would have been better with the sauce on the side so the chicken did not get soggy. In general, just good eating! Too bad I must drive from Katy to go there again. About the restaurant. People order from a board when they walk in. I thought it was going to be like McDonald's, so I was irritated by a line on the receipt for a tip. This is a pay first place. So many places where you order your food, then pick it up yourself, and get your own refill, place a tip line on your ticket. For what? Not here. Food and drinks are brought to your table. Refills, extra napkins, the works are done by servers. So I left a cash tip on the table. Two things need improvement. First is you get a fork rolled up in a cheap napkin. Maybe a knife and fork would be better with a nicer napkin. I hope the owner reads this review. Second - PEPSI WARNING! I would have enjoyed my meal much more with a Diet Coke. We moved to the area about two years ago. There are several good restaurants, but we really hadn't found good Chinese food.... Until now. The food was very good. You order at the counter. We ordered to go, but you can dine in, and your food will be brought to your table. There is also a drive thru. I'm not sure how long this place has been here but it appeared to be new and clean. For a restaurant that I see a lot of traffic, go in and out of. it is not living up to what it can be, especially from the same food chain that came from Tyler where they actually put flavor and give you a good quantity of protein with your lo mein or any dish that you order from them. After ordering two dishes for over $25 and coming home to only eating barely any of it only because the protein is more valuable than the veggies that had no real flavor and the noodles tasting as if they were going bad. read more

Sigh. I really wanted to like this place. I've been driving past it since they were back on North Street. I wanted authentic Chinese for my birthday, I ignored the handful of negative reviews & ordered from Peking Chinese Restaurant. I ordered several days worth of food since we live so far away & who doesn't want leftover Chinese the next day, am I right?! Upon entering the restaurant, there was an employee polishing the glass on the doors. The restaurant itself was clean and well lit. There were 2 employees behind the counter. I placed my order with a young man, telling him specifically I live over an hour away, & needed everything packed well, to survive the long drive (I've had a Chinese food disaster in my vehicle in a much shorter drive, so....). He assured me it would be. He told me my order would be ready in 15 minutes, I asked if he could make it 30, I needed to run an errand. He said "Your food will be ready when you get here." I left and was back in 20 minutes. Upon entry, an Asian man, who I didn't see earlier, barked "Your order is ready!" The counter was lined with piles of takeout bags. I said I had to go to the bathroom and I'd be right out. Bathroom was clean & well lit, but the low-flow toilet needs adjusting. I flushed a normal amount of TP for a #1, it just swirled the bowl & settled at the bottom. Upon exiting the loo a girl informed me again, "Your order's ready" & pointed to 3 bags now at the end of the counter in front of me. They REALLY want take out taken out IMMEDIATELY. I looked at the bags, girl looked at me asking "Would you like a box?" I said "Yes." I wondered about my order being packed per my request. She returned with a medium size box & carelessly piled the bags in it. As I left, a very polite employee dashed ahead of me, he held both doors open, which I appreciated. I put the box on my front seat & drove home. Unpack was a disaster. Everything was in styrofoam! The styrofoam container of egg foo yung sauce was crushed, split & empty, the entire bag & everything in it was covered w/sauce. Nothing was packed in any specific manner to endure the trip. In fact there was zero logic, as a heavy order of fried rice was placed on top of a light order of curry tofu, tofu box smashed. I think things were bagged as prep was completed. Zero thought beyond that. On to the food. Egg rolls were good. Typical size, typical filling. The veggies in the egg foo yung were plentiful and fresh, albeit huge. Hunks of broccoli were so large cutting 1 stalk into 3 pieces made large bites. Pork fried rice order was ok. Very scant on egg & peas/carrots. My husband said his broccoli beef was "just OK," and not something he would want to order from there ever again. He loves broccoli beef, it's his go-to choice, so he KNOWS good broccoli beef. This wasn't it. The following night I had the curry tofu. I loved the heat & flavor, but it was more like an Indian paneer dish (sans paneer) than Chinese. The pieces of tofu were GIANT & plentiful, but the veggies were almost nonexistent. Literally 2 snow peas. I sautéed my order and added carrots & peas, which made it more of what you would expect an entree to be. Im heating up the egg drop soup right now. , I'll be eating it tonite. While the amount of egg is OK, (I added another) there are literally 4 green onion slices. I'm glad I have a bunch in my crisper. Soup isn't crazy salty, which I'm thrilled about. Yum. Now..... The weirdest thing about this restaurant. NEVER have I ever encountered a "Chinese restaurant" that plops the rice in the same container with the entree. Usually everything comes in nice takeout boxes. Not here. Peking uses cheap styrofoam containers for everything except the soup. Entree & side are all slopped into the same container. By slopped, I mean this weird mystery rice is EVERYWHERE. Normally I skip the included rice altogether, or sub glass noodles, but since this was my first time here & I was doing take out, I didn't want to complicate things. The side rice is absolutely the weirdest rice I've ever seen. It's brown, like fried rice, but doesn't have any fried rice ingredients & doesn't taste like fried rice. It's not brown rice. It's white rice with brown sauce. It was unpalatable, I threw it all away. Overall, I was disappointed enough that I will not be returning to Peking Chinese Restaurant. I'm not sure who's in back cooking, but they need a lesson in sticky rice for starters. And whoever bags up the to-go orders needs a lesson in weight and gravity. Yes styrofoam containers are cheaper than Chinese take out boxes, but they make a huge difference in the transport & storage of take out. We've tried all the Chinese locations in Nacogdoches and this will be our last from now and into the future! There is no need to go anywhere but the Peking Chinese Restaurant to fulfill that Chinese craving! They serve every Chinese dish to perfection! Their egg rolls are the best I've ever eaten and that's just the beginning! Their specialty fried rice is the best with more than the normal amounts of meats and shrimp......the flavor is totally scrumptious and kicked up notches above all the rest when I add their Chinese hot pepper oil and spices (made in house). Whatever you desire in Chinese cuisine calls for, I believe can be found here. We haven't tried every one of their menu items, but my intentions are to give it my best to get 'er done. Abbey, the manager is so sweet and helpful to see that our orders are to perfection meeting our requests and needs. We're definitely not alone in our love for the Peking Chinese Restaurant as the drive-up window stays busy with call-in orders for lunches and dinners. The prices are in line or actually lower than many places we've been in our travels. For a to go order of "Shrimp Chow Mein" I receive basically soup that spilled all over my other orders... it had less than half noodles and more veggies and liquid and literally 5 shrimp... really disappointed and it lacked flavor. I was taken back to my college days of the $5.99 hole in the wall next to the dorm room where you debated getting food poisoning post frat party, except this place hasn't given me food poisoning yet. Generous portions. Flavorful soups. You can eat in, drive thru or call ahead to take home. I can call ahead and order, get in my car, drive here and my food is ready to pick up in 10-15 minutes. It's so convenient for students, families or work class. There really isn't much to say about this place. Inside is always clean, tables are busted quickly, customer service is spot on and friendly, food is served fast so you can make it back to the office during the week without a long wait. Egg rolls piping hot and delicious. Loved that. Wonton soup watery not much flavor. Sweet and sour pork chunks were just the right size and had just the right amount of coating and not over fried. My only complaint is the fried rice. It was not the traditional fried rice.....it was a weird brownish color but not true brown rice either. It had nothing in it. Chinese restaurants typically all taste the same for me. After our horrid experience at wataburger last night we needed some good food. After reading several reviews my kids insisted on getting take out. We ordered chicken lo Mein shrimp with veggies and general tsao's chicken. Having been a head cook at Mark Po's carry out for 5 years I expected simply the same as to all Chinese takeouts. I have never been more wrong it's sinful to even call this takeout it was utterly gourmet fine dining. My wife and I have dined at many asian cuisine fine dining and their take on Asian cuisine doesn't even come close as Peking's simple take out dishes. Definitely a must recommend. We have have family that live in the DFW area and I would definitely go out of my way to stop and pay another visit at Peking. Nothing in the Columbus Ohio chinese takeouts can compare to what we just had. read more

This review is specifically for the Hot and Sour soup. I used to go to Peking specifically for the Hot and Sour soup; It was the best in town. But, that is no longer the case. Half of the ingredients are missing now. No pork. No mushrooms. No wood ears or tree mushrooms. No chilis, which is...you know...the "hot" part of Hot and Sour soup. Now, it's basically just Tofu, eggs, and bamboo shoots with lots of black pepper and vinegar. I am displeased with my purchase and will buy my Hot and Sour elsewhere from now on. read more
