    145 General Tso.s Chicken

Stopped for lunch and was very pleased with the meal and service. Everyone was eager to do their part to give you a great meal. The lunch specials were huge portions that included soup and egg rolls. The General Tso Chicken (4/5) was incredible, flavorful and very tender. It was actually crispy without being overcooked. My hot and sour soup was great 4/5, spicy but not over the top. The restaurant is in an older but well kept shopping complex with modest decor.

Such an underrated place to get delicious Peking duck! It's located inside of a plaza with lots of parking available. Inside is your typical Asian restaurant with tables and round tables available for various size parties. My friends and I came here on a Saturday for an early dinner and were seated right away. We ordered the Peking duck, crispy tofu and shrimp. The Peking duck was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and tender meat. I like that they give thin tortilla like wraps instead of the buns, because it's lighter in the stomach! The sauce was also delicious. They also mix in the remaining duck bones and make it into a soup for your party to enjoy. The shrimp wasn't anything too outstanding. The size and consistency was good and juicy, but flavor was a bit bland. The crispy tofu with the sauce was another highlight though, something I definitely have to order every time. Come here if you're craving Peking duck at a reasonable price and not wanting to be in a crowded place.

My wife and I went for the Peking duck. The duck was great and moist. The skin was crispy. You could taste the seasoning throughout. It was wonderful with the bao, carrots, cucumber, green onion, and sauce. We also got the combination pan fried noodles. The noodles were crispy and tasty.

I have fond memories of meeting family and friends here as this used to be our family's go-to restaurant growing up in Southwest Houston. (especially when visitors were from Beijing, this was the spot we'd bring them for authentic Peking food) The Peking Duck has always been the signature dish, and they've done a solid job with some other authentic offerings over the years, like one of my all-time favorites: 京酱肉丝 (shredded pork in bean paste sauce). If you're coming for the duck, I'd say call ahead as it takes time to prepare. It does come with all the fixings: scallions/leeks, Chinese-style pancakes, and the hearty duck soup (still one of my personal favorites). The space is large and includes a private room, which makes it great for big gatherings. Service can be hit or miss. Back in the late '90s and early 2000s, we used to know the waitstaff from visiting so often, but ownership and staff have changed alot since then. On this most recent visit, my mom and I took a trip down memory lane and ordered a few dishes. I was excited to try the lamb skewers (串儿) but unfortunately they were overcooked and a bit tough. When I asked the server, he offered to exchange them but didn't really care and gives off a cold reception, I didn't want to trouble the kitchen so I just didn't bother. Still, it was a letdown. My mom ordered an eggplant dish from the vegetarian menu (not the garlic sauce version), and she wasn't a fan because how it felt undercooked. Thankfully, the shredded pork with scallions lived up to memory for me, it was flavorful and just as I remembered. Overall, it didn't quite live up to the nostalgia, but still a solid choice if you're craving Peking Duck, I probably won't be back regularly beyond that.

Hands down my go to place for Peking Duck! I've tried Peking Duck at a few places, and I always find myself coming back here whenever the cravings hit. When eating this dish, I prefer crepes over bao buns. That way I can get more in! The Peking Duck dish also comes with a soup/broth with some leftover duck drums, tofu and cabbage. Other menu items worth trying: Garlic Cucumbers - refreshing and light with a hint of chili oil Eggplant - for all the eggplant lovers who enjoy garlic sauce! Spicy Pork Ribs - well spiced, not bad but a little too much cumin for my liking. Overall, a great place to have family style meals! Service is... average. My only complaint would be the strong cleaner/bleach smell. Each time I come here, it's the same smell!

Came here on Thanksgiving with family for their Peking duck plus other goodies. I had been here several times throughout the years, and I hope for even more. The dishes here are priced a little higher than in Chinatown. The menu is extensive and served family style. In order to secure a duck, it is best to call ahead of time to reserve one. It comes with duck soup and flat tortilla like wraps. Another item that we loved was the sweet and sour fish! Beautifully battered and fried to a golden crispness and then drenched in sauce, it was the definite star of the show and favorite. The beef and green onions looked good, but it lacked flavor and was mostly green onions. I enjoyed the big fat dumplings, though they were on the salty side. This place is perfect for large gatherings as they offer many large tables with lazy susans available.

This humble gem is known and renowned for its Peking duck in town and it really is amazing! I love the Peking duck here. Crispy skin, moist duck. No frills or fuss place that serves great Peking duck. Truly one of the best! We didn't love the Szechuan crispy spicy chicken as it was kind of dry but we enjoyed the other dishes like the honey walnut shrimp and jiggling pork belly. The cream cheese rolls are great too! Service was decently quick and we were served well.

Restaurant is just off 59 in a non-descript strip mall. It was not busy when we entered and was seated right away. The decor is a bit outdated and the first table we got felt a little sticky and moved to a different table. They are known for their Peking Duck. They were the first one we found that offered crepe rather than bao. Ordering Peking Duck also comes with Duck soup. Soup was tasty with sliced cabbages and some type of noodle (?). Duck itself was delicious. Son was crispy and met was flavorful. We also ordered a side of mustard green and tofu. Something different from our regular vegetable dish. It was fresh and love the beans and tofu that came with it. Staff was friendly and were pretty efficient. Hope they will update the decor in the future.

Amazing food! Holy moly the pecking duck meal for $99 is worth it! Great service with attentive workers!! The setting/ambiance of the restaurant is clean and well put too!!!

Everything was overall average at best. The food wasn't very flavorful yet extremely oily. Peking duck: 3/5 the only flavor came from the hoisin sauce. Green beans: 2/5 mushy and oily Salt and pepper squid: 1/5 overly breaded without any squid. I only ate breading lol Egg drop soup 4/5 The service was great though! Our food came very fast and the server is extremely sweet. Lots of space for parking and good ambient.

The food was really good and at a very reasonable price! I got the 99 set and overall I don't have much complaints. Pancake was slightly thick and the duck a bit bland but other than that I was happy!

Lost my appetite when I saw this in our to go food
    Vanesa V.

I found a dead bug squished between my to go food containers. Really lost my appetite after seeing this. I tried a bite of the chicken and broccoli but the meat did not look right and it was super salty. I ended up throwing it away along with the rice that the squished bug was on top of. I'm glad I ended up not ordering the Peking duck to go as well as that would have been $48 down the drain.

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

Today was my lucky day because there was plenty of parking spots and seats (although the parking lot is very small). This place is great! I understand the hype for sure. When you walk inside it's just about the smallest restraunt I've ever. Very cozy and cute vibe with smooth jazz playing on a speaker and we got our food very fast. I really enjoyed my time here. Dry Fried Green Beans 5/5- these are the best green beans I have had in my life! I am not exaggerating like I will be thinking about these green beans all week. Do not hesitate to try these. Perfectly salty and good amount of crunch still left. The flavors they used are just perfect. Colorful Beef 4/5- The texture of the beef was so tender and not chewy at all like other places. The flavor was bright and the bell peppers were cooked through well. The issue I had with this dish was the sichuan peppercorns. I was just eating and not really looking at it super closely so I got a mouth full of these peppercorns and wow it was actually horrible. Just beware because the texture of these things are god awful and I think that they should be taken out like how a bay leaf is removed before serving. It was just really intense and it almost ruined the dish for me honestly. Other than that a great dish. My mouth was so numb but worth it. Dandan noodles 2/5- This was my first time trying this dish anywhere and I did not really enjoy it at all. The sesame flavor was really strong and it wasn't really salted at all. Very strange flavor. I will not order this again, however I do believe that the execution on this dish is great. There was a lot of sauce and the noodles were cooked well. I just really wish I liked the flavor of this dish and that's a personal problem. This dish also made my mouth numb but the flavor did not make it worth it. I wanted to like these so badly but I just couldn't do it. I will be back!
