First time going. Sunday buffet. The food was really good. Nice staff. My only complaint is even with me saying it was my first time nothing was explained to me. I would have missed many inclusions if I wasn't asking other customers. There was an ice cream bar hidden around the corner. The pitcher on my table contained delicious hot tea that I could have been drinking with my meal. I thought it was the previous person's water pitcher so I ordered soda. An alcohol beverage is included such as wine, champagne, etc... I chose Moscato. Next time I will know how everything works. read more

Early dinner today at Peking.Seated at 4 pm.Only a few diners in a very nice dining area. Small pot of hot tea was brought to the table right away. We ordered spring rolls,steamed dumplings, Hawaii 5-0, and beef and broccoli. Everything tasted so fresh and the quality of the food seemed to be a step above other similar places.Cooked just right! Monday my family ate an early dinner at Peking, Mechanicsville, Va. TJ was our server and he was,truly great for us taking our order right away and checking on us throughout our meal for anything we may need. Deborah had the sesamie chicken, Susie had chicken lomein, Zach had sweet and sour chicken, I had pepper steak, we had white rice with our meals. We had Crab Ragoon appetizers while waiting for our meals we alle joyed the appetizer. TJ had waited on us before over a month before on a Sunday after church when they have the wonderful buffet where you can try different dishes that are on their menu. I have not been to a Chinese restaurant as authentic as this, and I am pleased to say that everything was exceptional. The service was absolutely wonderful. Every waitress and waiter that came to our table was very kind and helpful. Another thing that added to this experience was the decorations, ambiance and atmosphere. I cannot forget about to mention the Best thing about this place, which is the food. I got the sesame chicken with brown rice, and vegetable spring rolls, which I recommend to everyone with tastebuds that likes chicken. Though I have not tried anything else here, everyone at my table loved their food as well and I am happy to say that it all looked delicious. There are many things that Contribute into this restaurant and I love it. The food was amazing, I could not have asked for anything more from this place, I am very impressed and pleased with it being my first time here. I will definitely be returning soon. I ordered my usual shrimp egg egg foo young with friend rice for takeout. The gentleman who took my order called me by name. ( sorry to say I don't know his name since I've been going to this restaurant for many years). He called me by name when I picked up my order. The shrimp pancakes were well seasoned with many large plump shrimp. The rice was tasty as was the won ton soup. I couldn't eat it all so reheated and ate the foo young today. It was still delicious. I've ordered takeout from Peking a few times and the food has been consistently good and ready on time. They have several locations in the Richmond area, and each restaurant's menu is available on their website next to the clearly listed address and phone number. On my most recent visit I called in an order around 5:00pm on a Sunday and was told my food would be ready in 10-15 minutes. There were plenty of parking spaces available in the large private lot when I arrived, and I was greeted by the host as soon as I walked inside the restaurant. It was quiet inside despite the fair number of diners catching an early dinner. My food was ready as promised and the bag was still steaming hot when I arrived home 10 minutes later. I had ordered two large entrees, one Orange Chicken and one Sesame chicken, and with the large portions each will certainly last for several meals. The chicken is dark meat but well cooked and crispy on the outside, and the sauces are flavorful and have a good consistency. My only complaints: I was a bit disappointed that I only received one container of rice, as entrees typically come with one for each. I also did not like the chunks of orange peels served sprinkled on the Orange Chicken, as they were extremely bitter to the point of being inedible, but I was able to pick them out. Being greeted by two massive Foo Dogs (guardian lions) really sets the mood for this Chinese restaurant. Peking is an RVA staple when it comes to delicious Chinese food! There are several locations, and this one is Mechanicsville is sublime. There's plenty of parking and a walk up take out window too! The interior is tasteful and decorative. I love looking at the beautiful Chinese figurines and pictures. The tables and booths are spread out and comfortable. The service is excellent! And the prices are terrific with large portions! (Note that they close between 2:15-4 to transition from lunch to dinner!) I love everything about this place but the star of the show is the food! The pork fried rice is amazing and my "go to" dish, fresh and crispy egg and springs rolls, the wonton soup is flavorful, the beef and broccoli had a smooth rich sauce and tender meat, the General Tsao's Chicken Imperial is one of their specialties and it does not disappoint! I've also enjoyed the Chicken Velvet in a light white wine sauce over rice and it was out of this world. The Moo Shu Pork is some of the best in Richmond, and the Egg Foo Yung is light and fluffy with a delish brown sauce. These are just some of the entrées we've tried here, we've never had a bad meal! Whenever I'm craving Chinese food and I'm in the Mechanicsville area, this is the prime spot to satisfy my tummy!! Peking has been in the Richmond area for decades. This particular store has been here for several years, perhaps 10 or more. I've eaten at various Pekings a handful of times. Last week was my first at this particular store. I walked in, sat at the bar and perused the menu. Easy choice for my first time in the store: * Spring Rolls * Hot & Sour Soup * Pepper Steak I asked the hostess about the H&SS... are the noodles homemade? No. Sigh. Fifteen minutes later I was headed home with hot food and sumptuous smells. At home I ate the Spring Rolls first, with hot Mustard. Very good, worth repeating. Next up: Hot & Sour Soup. I believe this was the best H&SS I've had in the Richmond area this year. The only negative was that the accompanying crispy noodles. Boughten, not homemade. I'd love to repeat the soup, but either with noodles procured elsewhere, or no noodles at all. Then the Pepper Steak. Very good. Not outstanding, but worth repeating. I'll be back for more dishes such as Pork Lo Mein, Szechuan Beef, one of the several Scallop dishes. Peking Restaurant was easy to find; parking was a cinch in the dedicated lot. This is my families first and last order from Peking. We ordered Beef and Broccoli, Imperial Chicken, Fried dumplings, spring rolls and wonton soup. The beef and broccoli was good. The end. The spring rolls were grease soaked and tasted days old. The dumplings were small, hard and tasted like they had been frozen. The Imperial chicken again, tasted like something from the freezer section. We didn't even taste the wonton soup. Most of this meal went uneaten. Disappointing. read more

Mechanicsville needs a Yelp boost in the worst way. Too many Yelpers are concentrated in the City of Richmond and Short Pump area. Hopefully, one review at a time we can build up the 23111. Peking has been around for years. On average I dine in the place once a year or so. It's not earth shattering food but it seems perfectly fine to me. Just check out the pictures. I think they speak for themselves. I frequently hit up the Peking downtown in the slip. I'm not sure how related they are besides the name. Maybe they are owned by the same franchise owner? They have children providing all their service and you are going to wait even when the restaurant is empty. A great restaurant, we had excellent service for a large party. My dish with scallops and shrimp was a bit on the greasy side, but the first few bites were excellent. I guess I am a purist, and I want to be actually able to taste the sea food I am eating without the over powering fishy taste. It was well cooked, and doused with soy sauce. I ordered some curry chicken, which was really good, and two Egg Foo Youngs (shrimp and chicken). Both of these lacked flavor and, by my standards, they were burned. Happy to say I'll be back! (Note: Peking would have a solid 4+ star overall rating if not for a few ancient ratings from many years ago that no longer are applicable). Happy to know there's a good Chinese restaurant in the area. Friendly and attentive staff, good ambiance, comfortable and affordable. The hot and sour sour was the best I've had in a long time. Just the right amount of spices and plenty of flavor. The spare ribs were nicely cooked and presented. Three dishes, Mongolian beef and scallops, chicken with cashews and beef with broccoli, were all tasty and the portions bountiful. We had enough for leftovers. Even the hot tea was good! Peking is fantastic. The owners are very caring and nice people. We consistenly order take out. I love the Kung Pao Chicken or the Mushi Pork. Hubby is a fan of the Chicken Imperial. Their Spring Rolls are DEVINE!!! Never once have I had a bad meal there. We have patronized Peking Mechanicsville since it opened long ago. We get take out at least 2X's a month. A group of us (8) recently had dinner at Peking. Over the years I have found the food quality varies. I ordered the Orange chicken which was EXTREMELY sweet that night. Everyone else seemed to be happy with their choices and food quality. When we received our checks there was a 20% "service charge" added to the bill. We were all very confused as when we got the credit card receipts back there was a "pre-tip" total and a space for a tip. We did not leave any additional tip as we assumed the 20% was the tip.
