The lo mein wasn't it. Not a lot of flavor to it. Pretty bland. The beef cuts themselves were completely flavorless. The general tso's chicken was good, had a bit of a kick to it. I hate spicy food and it wasn't bad. Just a tad hot but they did well balancing the flavor. The egg drop soup was probably the top 5 renditions of it that I have had. It was a little more watery than most egg drop soup but still very good. Usually egg drop soup is too salty but this was great. The rice was like Spanish rice more than fried rice. I don't care for it. Bland and flavorless. Overall, I'd choose Peking over this place for nearly the same price and better food. Also there's good seating there and not so much here. I ordered carry out from this location because it was the only one of three Chinese restaurants nearby that offered both an online ordering and moderate prices. I ordered carry out and can't review the space, I can only review the food. I ordered General Tso Tofu and it was of very poor quality. The taste was ok, but it seemed like maybe the sauce was too wet and was absorbed by the crust. The entire dish was a single soggy mass. What used to be crust slipped off of each tofu piece, which was also on the softer side. They need to press their tofu more. The white rice was fine. read more

I'm going to start off by saying the young girl who works up front has difficulty multi tasking and is RUDE. I tried for 5 minutes to give her an order before someone else had to take over. BUT their food is worth it. I live in King William and both of our Chinese restaurants are trash. Moving from Glen Allen where we could get excellent Chinese then out here we had nothing was disappointing. This is our favorite take-out place in Mechanicsville, and the only one where I trust the quality enough to eat the food. Although I see some negative reviews regarding the owner's children, I've had nothing but pleasant experiences here and the children are always sweet and willing to help their family business. This place is trustworthy, I've never had a problem giving my payment information over the phone, regardless of who was on the other end. I love this family and enjoy supporting their business ... not to mention the food is the best and my order is always correct and piping hot. OK. THOUGHT we had found a Chinese winner but we didn't. This place is better to any Chinese restaurant in a 10 mile radius but not good enough to return. We have to travel a minimum of 20 minutes to find any decent restaurants and that fact is never more annoying than when you want good Chinese take out (or better...delivery!). We've tried the 'local' joints and they are terrible. So...we ventured a little further and gave China House a shot and I must say, it was worth the drive. I'll not hold the food temp against them as it was 25 minutes back to the house (we really do like our Chinese). None of it was cold, but it wasn't piping hot either. Anyway, what we liked most: The Egg Drop Soup very good, Hot and Sour Soup very good (so I was told, I didn't try it) Crab Rangoons were still crispy little packets and the filling tasty The Shrimp Toast crispy and not dripping with oil like some we've had. The Shrimp Rolls light and flaky General Tso's chicken had a bit of heat like it's supposed to vs the icky sweet we've been served elsewhere :( Chicken with Garlic Sauce was tasty with just the right amount of heat. What we didn't like was the pork fried rice. Just didn't taste good Sesame Chicken, while not bad...it basically tasted just like the General Tso's with sesame seeds sprinkled on it. They know our orders by heart which is always nice. The food is always delicious and fresh. I've never had one complaint about this restaurant. The little girl at the counter is rude and can get very nasty and doesn't seem to understand anything. I think it's the daughter of the people that work there and they shouldn't have her working there she's very incompetent and rude. We ordered here for many years and stopped a couple of years because the quality of food was so bad. Then new management made big improvements and it was great. Well,unfortunately they have fallen back into poor quality and actually disgusting flavors. Ordered Moo Goo Chicken and fried jumbo shrimp, it was disgusting. There was a overpowering garlic/dirty dishwater smell, and not sure what the meat was. The moo goo chicken had a slimy sauce. The fried shrimp was so over fried it was hard. When I called to complain the manager defended her food. I spent a lot of money here and always tip the driver well. Will not spend another penny at China House. I've always been skeptical about Chinese places I've never heard of before but this place is amazing! I love that when I order something for delivery on eatstreet they still follow the requests and my food is still hot when it gets here! I just had orange chicken 10 minutes ago and my chicken was all white meat (unlike some chicken I see at Chinese places that's grey and mushy) and so crunchy! One of my regular takeout spots in Mechanicsville. Glad I discovered it a few years ago. Food is always good and the service is fast.

We order from here weekly and enjoy the food. The last dozen or so times their young daughter (7 or so) answers the phone and on numerous occasions has been sarcastic and rude when taking our order and hearing her on the phone that way talking to others when we pick up our food. The last time I asked for her mom sincerely I was not giving a child my credit card number over the phone. Tonight was the last time, my boyfriend asked her to repeat the order because so much background and in a sarcastic tone she said "I know. w an ugh sound after. He told her to not bother with the order and said goodbye. The mom did call back and he explained this happens often and she did not sound upset nor surprised. We will find another take out return to where service is polite and a child is not there working 7 days a week. read more

Felt like trying a new place and so glad I did. If I get Chinese takeout I'm ordering General Tso's chicken and fried rice--this food run was no exception. For the money I got a very sizable meal that tasted better than any other takeout I've had. In fact, I'd get this over a lot of sit down restaurants it was that good. The chicken was tender and crunchy without being greasy and the sauce tasted perfect. Honestly, I can't find anything negative to say about the food. I was in the mood for some Chinese food after getting some grocery at Kroger . I decided to give this place a try. It had been a while since I had Chinese food so I was really looking forward to it. What I got was something completely unexpected. I ordered 2 shrimp rolls and a quart of Shrimp lomein for me and my husband. I bit into my shrimp roll after I got home and noticed black stuff on the inside of the eggroll, mold apparently they thought that if cooked it no one would notice, golden brown on the outside moldy on the inside, both eggrolls were like this, it was the inside lining of the eggroll itself if I weren't paying attention I problaby would not have noticed. I called the restaurant to let them know and asked to speak to a manager, I was told that no manager was working today but I could bring them back, well I really wasn't interested in getting anymore food from this place or wasting my time over $3.00, the lomein wasn't the best that I have had either and I felt funny about eating it after knowing they were serving their customers moldy food. Everybody has the occasional bad experience at restaurants normally small things such as food being over cooked because they get busy etc but this is the first time in my life that I have ever been sold moldy food. I would never eat at this place again nor would I recommend it. read more
