Came here again because I really enjoyed it the first time. I ordered the passion unsweetened tea and the Happy Family meal. It came on a hot plate which kept the meal hot while enjoying the chicken, scallops, shrimp, beef , broccoli, carrots, etc. just about everything in a sweet sauce with a side of fried rice. My husbands mother just passed away, and so I asked if we could be seated in an area of the restaurant that I pointed to where there was no one sitting in because it would have been more quiet there. The guy told me no that that section was not open yet. So we were seated in a more busy area, but the next people that came in right after us were seated right in the area where no one was. We had lunch here today. We were seated in front of the window waterfall. I love that view. I think it is so much fun to watch. It is a bit tight to get in, in my wheelchair but it is doable. Service was pleasant. We needed extra time to decide what to order. She gave extra time without disappearing. We had a wonderful lunch. I ordered the sushi rolls. The three rolls meal. I ordered crispy eel roll it was good but I did not find it crispy. Shrimp tempura roll. Very crispy and delicious. Last roll was also very crispy and tasty Spider roll. For $20.95. My wife and I ordered a few apps and two 3 roll specials. Wife asked for no cucumber and it was loaded with cucumber. Take out the cucumber and more than half the roll is gone. Spicy tuna roll is literally canned tuna with kewpie and sriracha, horrible. Philly roll was okay. Crab Rangoons were standard and the spring rolls tasted like chicken noodle soup egg rolls. I only visited here because the google reviews seemed good. I ordered a lunch combo of szechuan shrimp, spring roll and white rice. The shrimp were the size of my thumbnail - no exaggeration. I've had salad shrimp larger than this before. I had only a small handful of shrimp and about 3/4 pound of celery and onions. Truly this was NOT szechuan shrimp but szechuan celery. Also, the rice was dry - imagine a Chinese restaurant serving dry rice! And the spring roll was tiny - like a 5-year old portion. I threw most of this meal away which I hate to do since I hate wasting food but it lacked much. I won't return, in case that isn't already apparent. read more

I ordered Doordash from Ginger Red as I was looking for gluten free sushi options. I ordered two GF rolls and what appeared on the menu as "Frozen Green Tea Chai". I was excited for this as it was randomly 70 degrees in December. My ordered arrived and I got the GF Crystal Phoenix roll ( grilled chicken, cream cheese and cucumber) and GF Crystal Jackson roll (smoked salmon, avocado, Cucumber topped with Sriracha and Sesame seeds). The chai arrived hot which I was disappointed with but I'll be honest it was really good. The Phoenix roll was good but I honestly don't care for cream cheese too much in my sushi so I wouldn't order this again. The Crystal Jackson roll was amazing. I love anything spicy. It looked like from the menu they have more GF entree variety but these are the only two GF sushi rolls. read more

Service was fast. Our server was ready to take our order as soon as we sat down. Veggie pad Thai had a few slices of snow peas and a few pieces of baby corn. Crushed peanuts were served on the side. There were no fresh bean sprouts on top, but it was served with a lime wedge. Vegetable delight included broccoli, cabbage, tofu, snow peas and onion in a light colored sauce similar to a chow mein type sauce. I would describe this as casual fast American Chinese. read more

Me and my wife love coming here and believe it to be one of the best places to grab a bite to eat in Mechanicsville. My rating is for my to experience on 7/2 ordering to-go. I placed the order online and, on the website, it was advertising that the to go time would be 45-50 (Rather Long) but actually preferred it as I get off work in Midlothian and with traffic would take me roughly around that time to get to the resteraunt. I received a text message advising that my order was placed. While I was packing up and chatting with a co-worker in the parking lot, I received at text message at 5:14 pm that my order was ready. I was worried that meant my food would be cold by the time I got there. I picked up my order around 5:50 PM and got to my house at 6:15 pm. To my Suprise the to go containers they place their food in kept everything hot and nothing was luke warm. Great job with whoever you order your containers from. Wife and I along with a few friends went to Ginger Red and arrived at 7:30 pm. Was sat right away and was greeted by our server shortly after. We ordered drinks and our server was very patient allowing us more time to figure out what we would like. Drinks were a little strong but no worries. We ordered our food and our sushi/salads/soups came out very quickly. Our main entrees seemed to take a little longer than usual but nothing outrageous. Food was worth the wait and I definitely overate from the food being so good. Server was attentive throughout our dining experience and always asked if we would like anything else. Another one of those 2 stars is too few and 3 stars is too many. I really wanted to like this little Mechanicsville eatery but I can't say I would be in a hurry to return. I did like the intimate feel of the restaurant, but the food was just fair and service was a bit inconsistent during our lunch date. It seemed to take an unusually long time to receive our main course after finishing up our soup and California roll. Also we were served a rather sparse helping of crunchy Chinese noodles for our soup, on a little saucer, and our server kinda looked a little embarrassed by it when he placed them on our table. The white rice served with the sesame beef was sticky and seemed left over, the beef itself was flavorful but even for an expected lighter lunch portion it was 3 very small pieces. The lo mein portion was pretty ample for lunch but tiny little shrimp. Probably the most unusual part of this lunch was the green tea. A hot cup of water and a tea packet from Kirkland brand. There was almost a fishy taste and it was not drinkable, no amount of sweetener could help that tea. read more

So if you are searching for authentic Chinese cuisine this is not that. The To-go portion sizes are on the smaller side compared to their competitors. The soup took a little long to come out , so long I thought the server had forgotten about it. When the soup arrived it was totally worth the wait. It was flavorful and light. I was excited to see how our entrees would be. Finally our entrees are out both are very large portions, we could have easily shared one meal. I loved my Szechuan shrimp but just couldn't get enough of my hubby's honey chicken. The honey chicken was sweet yet tangy and had the perfect texture. The Szechuan shrimp was spicy and pack with veggies which was great. FYI you may not want to order extra spicy as the dish is already pretty spicy. After about 7-10 minutes we were bought the check and told no rush, however all the staff were cleaning up around us and our server even mentioned he had to run to do something outside. We paid someone else took up our check I guess since our server was outside. The food was good but not the experience. This place could be a 4 or maybe even 5 star place with better customer service and not making the customers feel rushed although the sign says last seating 9:30. I will be back during the day or earlier to give it another chance since the food is tasty Update: so I returned and this experience definitely made up for the last. It's close to home so we thought we'd check it out. When I first walked in I saw all the help wanted signs. Didn't think too much of it until later. I ordered so steam dumplings and some sushi. There wasn't a lot to choose from. But nThe dumplings were dry and musty. The sushi was ok. I ordered the spicy tuna, spicy shrimp, and spicy Boston roll. The tuna wasn't vert fresh but the other two were great. I then noticed that there were 4 girls behind the bar chatting, while there were 2 hard working servers were running around like maniacs. It just seemed odd to be short staffed with that many people doing nothing. The service itself was good. I'm not sure how the rest of the menu is, but it was rather extensive.
