Our family has been visiting Peking for over 10 years now. It is our most favorite place to eat. The food is always fast, fresh and most of all DELICIOUS! husband and I were in the mood to eat out. Based on the reviews on Google we pulled up to this place. Let me just say the outside of the restaurant looks like an old brothel. Almost left based on how it looked but we thought maybe it was just a hole in the wall with really good food. Could not be more wrong. We went inside and noticed one couple eating and several tables with dirty dishes that had not been cleaned. I ordered the noodles and my husband got a lunch special. Food is extremely bland and disgusting. We were trying to force ourselves to eat it but couldn't so we ended up paying and leaving. Had to go buy food elsewhere! Yes it's cheap as other reviews state, bill was only $13, but that does not make up for it. I would rather pay a couple bucks more and actually enjoy my meal. Worst $13 spent. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! Would not even count as a hole in the wall establishment. Place needs to be torn down or at least visited by sanitation inspectors. read more

We just had a lunch combo here, I had been once before. Reading the comments below, frankly, I feel are humorous. We had 2 entrees on EACH combo plate, rice (yeah, it was yellow , so what), hot and sour soup, sesame chicken , beef with broccoli, egg roll. My wife had a combo plate lemon chicken, and beef with broccoli , with the same side dishes. We thought it was really good. I gave 5 stars, taking into account that it was only $10, and it is a privately owned family restaurant. Peking had been there a long time, which speaks for itself. The first time I went, was with a party of 4, and we all thought it was very good. I think the 1 star, critical posts are unwarranted . Nice mama san type waitress also. New Braunfels is not impressing me in the food department. The service was lacking here, for one. The one waitress there didn't seem to even care and didn't even bring us a menu. The food was 'meh' at best. And can someone please explain to me why the rice is yellow? I guess it's an alright place in a pinch or if you only have $10 to your name and are desperate for a meal. Love this place. Best hot and sour soup around and the crab Rangoon's are delicious. I always get the sesame or orange chicken. Very good. The prices are awesome too! For just over $8 ok the dinner special you get a good sized bowl of soup, 3 Rangoon's or an egg roll and a good size helping if rice and your entree. read more

Food was what I refer to as "decent", a step below "good". The fried rice was an odd, artificially bright marigold yellow/orange w no veggies or egg. It tasted like plain rice so I found the color addition odd and unnecessary. I got orange beef and it was almost scalding hot, which was refreshing since most food doesn't come out from the kitchen like that. My dad's Mongolian beef was sweet.... Isn't Mongolian beef supposed to be a peppery/brown gravy dish? There wasn't much meat but it was crispy and fresh. And then they drowned both of our dishes in sauce. It was almost like having a curry there was so much. Another thing I found odd was the waitress never bussed her tables. I used to wait tables so I'm pretty understanding... but it was a dead, slow night and there were 4-5 tables covered in dirty, used dishes. She never touched them the entire time I was there. The egg rolls, dumplings, and egg drop soup were good. The last time I went here was 10-15 years ago. I don't remember anything but I didn't think badly of it back then so I was curious if it had changed. I'm pretty disappointed and probably won't go back unless there are some big changes that somehow get publicly announced. read more

I didnt touch them and the waitrees didnt even ask me because she knew. She compt my meal because I didnt eat it. I didnt complain about it. I just didnt eat it. There are so many times that my family & I have gone in & Fawn(owner) is so busy doing it all, yes people walk in stand at the door then leave after a few minutes, but if you'll just grab a few dirty dishes off the tables & wipe them off as if you were at home then have a seat, Fawn will appreciate it & won't forget you either...just give the place a chance, it's really great food & good people. She works by herself here, she's waitress, bus person, cashier, and hostess...it gets over whelming for her I'm sure. But like I said just have a seat and please be patient. Had their BBQ Pork and fried rice. 1st off, not enough meat, and 2nd their fried rice tasted a little sour to me. Plus, I even try and call in the order so I didn't had 2 wait, and the woman hung up on me. So I waited for about 10-15 minutes just to be more disappointed. This was absolutely the worst food I have ever even tasted in my 40 years on this earth. The customer service was horrible. When we finally did receive our food my entire family (kids included) could not even take a second bite. We ran home and brushed our teeth. Their "Chinese" sauce was like brown gravy and the rice was more orange than Tang! We immediately paid and left. We just wanted out of there as fast as we could. I ordered hunan beef, and it was mostly sauce with three small pieces of beef in it. But what really turned me off was the service. It took almost 50 minutes for our food to come out, and at one point, about 40 minutes in, the waitress had to come take our order again. I am a local here in New Braunfels. This is by far the best, cheap Chinese food you can get in town. So everything is not made from scratch and the veggies might have been previously frozen. What did you expect for the price? Your not going to get a 5 star meal here. You will get some decent tasting food and a really awesome cheap bill. They are best known for there sesame chicken. It sells like crazy. You might have to wait a while to get service. The owner most the time is the only waitress. Most the time you will see locals such as myself helping clear tables, get our own tea and put our own dishes away. Only a local would understand why, It's as if were all family when we eat here. The lady knows most of us by name, she also knows you favorite dish. Be nice and enjoy, this is a better place than it looks. read more

First thing first - I am biased! I love the owners - Phone (Not sure how to spell it but that is how her name is pronounced) and her husband. They also have a son and a daughter that also help them when on break from school or in the summer. They are the only ones that work here, sometimes a cousin may come and help them. They are right down the street from my work and we eat here often. I haven't written a review on yelp in a long time and recently on a social media page someone was commenting on how good the service was for them and others commented that they had horrible reviews online so therefore never tried to come to Peking before so that is what led me here to see what others have written and I felt compelled to defend them a little bit after reading the negative reviews. I know plenty of people who eat here who have more than $5.00 to their name as others have claimed. Peking may not be for everyone but there are plenty of people who love the family and are glad to support a local business and family. Personally, I feel their prices are too cheap and always leave extra for a tip. Phone recognizes her customers and remembers what everyone orders. Personally, I always order the same thing - sweet and sour chicken with the sauce on the side, sesame chicken, hot and sour soup with the fried wontons. It is good food, portions are good, and the owners are sweet people. I have never ordered anything else and consistency it always tastes the same even 15 years later. I have never gotten sick from eating here. Phone will have her husband make a special plate for my toddlers usually chicken and rice with wonton chips. Lunch is their busiest time and the restaurant is usually full and most of the time it is one cook (husband) and one server (wife). Most of us regulars understand this and are willing to be kind and patient while we wait for our "usual" lunch orders. I am only writing this to hopefully serve as an explanation of what type of place it is and what you may expect if you are new to New Braunfels and decide to visit. read more
