I hate to give this place a poor review because the staff was great and helpful. My review is based solely on the bubble tea. I didn't like it. The tea itself was good but the tapioca was very bland. I've recently moved to Boulder from Lansing where I regularly had bubble tea at a place called Bubble Island. It's the first bubble tea I've ever had and the balls were light and sweet. I can't say the same about Pekoe. I will definitely go back to Pekoe because I'd like to try some more of the tea. However, I will not order the bubble tea again. read more

Nice enough place, save for the flies that seemed to be in abundance and the confusing "single" espresso that was apparently a double. I ordered a double, was charged for a single, double checked with the cashier that it was a double (she said yes), then when my order was ready- the barista announced it was a "single" but then said it was a double. This teahouse, although it is not a chain, has a strong brand design like a recognizable logo and sleek tea tins. That's what drew me initially to the place, but then I found out how good their tea was and I am now hooked. The space is small but bright and welcoming with places to plug in computers. They have a wide variety of pastries from healthy to indulgent. I love the honey millet muffins which are healthy but delicious! The quality of their loose-leaf tea can definitely compete with the big guys like Teavana. Other locations: 30th Street between Valmont & Mapleton, and the Atlas building on the CU Boulder campus. Best coffee in Boulder The coffee here is a little bit expensive, but it's the best. They've got a special machine and every cup is brewed to order. Coffee does not sit around in air pots for hours getting bitter. Wish the store was a little more spacious. A mature staff that does an excellent job of service-much better than Vic's across the street, though one time a guy did tell me I had to take a paper down I'd propped up to keep the sun out of my eyes-so they can be a bit uptight here. YUM! I don't live anywhere near this tea house, but I have gone for the last three days in a row because the iced coffee is soooooo delicious. I liked the iced tea I got today a lot, but nothing has compared to how amazing the mate chai tea latte is... the atmosphere is cool and calming...seems like a good place to sit and chill for hours on end. read more

Writing this review at Pekoe right now. It's the third coffee shop I've been to today. I was really excited when I noticed their list of chai options. Unfortunately, I'm not impressed. I ordered the spicy green chai and the soy flavor is stronger than the chai, although I did taste hints of ginger. Definitely prefer the chai at The Cup (see my review). This place has ample seating and outlets, with free wifi, which are all very positive aspects. The staffer who assisted me was very helpful. He answered my questions about the different types of chai, along with offering his pick in pastries. The art hanging on the walls is fun, along with the lantern-like lights. read more

I have come here many a time and have never been let down. Walking through the door, the smell of tea, mate, coffee, and sugar mingles in my nostrils and makes deciding even more of a struggle. However, I have my favorites: Acai bowls: Whether you opt for the Lili Acai Bowl, or the Purple Smile Bowl, you can't go wrong. (the only difference between the two is that the Purple Smile uses apple juice, and the Lili uses black tea). Each bowl comes with a cold acai "smoothie" type base, topped with granola, bananas, almonds, coconut confetti, and finished off with a drizzle of honey. The best treat for a hot summer day! Chocolate Hazelnut Mate: Served in a pot, this is one of the best teas I've ever had. The name is perfect for it as there is an obvious chocolate infusion. It doesn't cheat you at all like some teas do (ie. having a fancy name but being plain old lipton tea bags). With the Chocolate Hazelnut Mate, there is no need for cream or sweetener! Just pour it from the cute dark purple tea pot into the chic glass cup and enjoy! Boba Milk Tea: If you are looking to indulge on something high in calories and sugar after a crappy day, this is the drink for you! Being a Boba tea fan, I have got to admit that this is one of the best bubble teas I've ever tasted and trust me, I've tried them all. I actually live in Taiwan where you can walk a block or turn the corner and bam! you got a Boba tea stand. But no, not even the bubble teas is Taiwan (where the drink actually originated) can compare to the one at Pekoe. They use fresh milk (not that milk powder shit) and perfectly cooked Bobas that are soft and squishy (not hard from sitting in the refridgerator or anything. If you have a sweet tooth, I'd recommend this drink! All in all, Pekoe is my fave coffee spot in Boulder! read more

I love pekoe very much. I have been going there for a while. Unfortunately one of there employees is very rude. Whenever my friend and I go there we'll both order a black tiger tea. Usually we will also add in a little bit of milk after we have had a couple sips, just to make the tea a bit less strong. One time when we went though, we tried to do this and the employee, very rudely, told us we could not "get free refills". We said that we were just utilizing the milk they had set out on the counter. She just rolled her eyes and walked away. The next time we came in, she saw us and immediately took the milk away from the counter. When I went to get a bit of milk, I had to ask if I could get some. One of the employees gladly gave me a little bit of milk. While she was doing that though, the original employee came up to me and said "you guys cannot get milk. You have to pay for it." Then the other employee gave me back my drink, and told me to let her know if I wanted any more milk. This doesn't make any sense. If there is milk set out in the counter then we should be able to use it cost free. We feel very targeted, why should we have to pay for milk when others use it cost free. She then told us "if we want milk we should just order the original boba" she then gave me a glare rolled her eyes again and walked away. read more

Originally wrote something very long, but I'd just like to say that Pekoe has very good tea. Love them. Love the boba. Kinda upset about their weird, inconsistent hours though. Why close for like a week after a winter storm? Why start closing at like 3pm? Love hurts sometimes- I've definitely driven out to Pekoe on numerous occasions only to find that they closed early or were out of boba. Also, the info on google about them being open for takeout right now is false :-(. I've been coming here since about 2005, and it's remained solid ever since. I go for their simple stuff - mate and house chais, sometimes Jasmine tea - but it really hits the spot on cold days. And sometimes hot days. The employees are some of the nicest I've encountered - maybe it's because they know me, but they always ask how my day's going. It's a great place to get some work done. If you go near the back, it's relatively quiet; the front is a bit more noisy. Sometimes I go in just to hang out without even buying anything, and they're still welcoming. Whenever friends from town visit, I always direct them here, because I think it's a good picture of Boulder. Plus, it's REAL tea, as opposed to that "Starbucks chai latte" stuff made with syrup. read more

I don't come here often enough, but when I do, I always enjoy it. Their drinks are really different and really delicious. During the winter, I love the tea lattes (the mocha one is out of this world) and in the summer, their iced drinks are amazing, fresh, and refreshing. They often run out of boba, so would recommend getting there early. But when they do have boba, it's delicious. Wish they would just make more. Very friendly staff and spacious with plenty of tables. Steelyard Location. I wanted to like this place but I just can't after giving it a few tries. It appears from the reviews here the other locations are great and I've missed out. I've been here 3 times and each time the staff is unfriendly, despite my efforts to smile and make small talk. Twice I had the same brunette girl and once was a guy. Not just indifferent, but borderline unfriendly -made me feel like they would rather me not be there. I asked about the difference in their chai selection and she might as well have rolled her eyes. This place is small, given that it is wedged between two larger stores, but they have somehow managed to fit plenty of seating in without crowding the floorspace. When you arrive, expect plenty of kids, since this seems to be a popular place for both them and their parents. The tea is good, and the bobas seem reasonably fresh. I've been a customer at Pekoe for a while, and have always been more than pleased. I've tried a ton of things off their menu and I truly can't think of anything that I've disliked. The staff is also great - they're always smiling, friendly, and sociable. What really brought me to write this review, though, is an experience I just had here. I ordered my drink and, after receiving it, promptly knocked it over and spilled it all over the counter. They immediately cleaned it up and offered to make me a new one, free of charge. Its difficult to say what it is about this environment but I really like spending time here, typically pounding away on my laptop. There is an outdoor seating area, which I haven't used yet, but people do seem to enjoy. This place offers just the right amount of busyness throughout the day to keep this place vibrant but also not so much that it is distracting. read more

What a cute little tea place! I'd been wanting to try this place for ages, and finally got to! The interior is painted & designed in a really artsy style, and they have plenty of room for people to sit and enjoy their tea. I got the white strawberry bubble tea, which was totally yummy (I love boba teas) and my husband got the rooibos chai (he loves red tea) which was soul warming. I love this place. I don't think their boba is that great but everything else is. They sweeten their drinks mostly using agave so they're never too sweet which I love. Most of the coffee houses make their drinks way too sweet for my liking. They're staff is for the most part very friendly and helpful. I like their coffee too. It's never overly bold or bitter. Just right. My favorite is their Green Buddha, a frozen blended matcha drink. Yum. I think they have the best frozen green tea drink around here. It's sweetened with white chocolate and agave. They have this $9000 single cup coffee maker that makes amazingly smooth coffee. They were testing out this blue berry coffee blend and let me try it brewed in this machine and it was just amazing. There teas are good and have gone through pounds of their green jasmine tea. Good location, and seating. Wait staff and owner know a lot about tea. read more
