We chose Pelato for our anniversary and were hoping it might become one of our regular spots. Unfortunately, both the food and service fell short of expectations, especially for a special occasion. I waited to post this review until after receiving the manager/owner's response to my husband, which came across as dismissive rather than helpful. That was especially disappointing. My husband travels extensively and we dine out often, so we understand that restaurants can have off nights. However, this experience felt more like a lack of hospitality and accountability than a one-time issue. The night started with the waiter taking quite a while to get to us. We were ok though - he looked like he was juggling a lot of tables. He took our drink orders and after being gone for quite a while, returned to say he forgot my wine choice. Then my husband asked for a glass of ice. The waiter said, "That may take a while." Maybe he could have asked a team member for help? Several people who seemed to be managers came over to ask how things were going. It seemed like they needed more waiiters and less managers. In the end, the food was mediocre. It wasn't bad, just a disappointment. Also, the manager/owner thinks that getting bad service and mediocre food makes you have negative energy? This doesn't seem like TN hospitality to me. read more

Meh. Sadly it's a "1 and done" for us. Wasn't really impressed with the food, but service was good. It's basically all "small plates", not full meals. What we got was "ok", but not great enough to go back again. I know it's super popular, place was packed at 4:30. Give it a try. You may love it. read more

Good food, great service, loud restaurant Their menu is tapas style, meant for sharing or taking home. The potato croquettes are popular and best with extra garlic aioli, but I didn't realize until I returned to the hotel that they charged me for that-- not cool, I should have been told. The artichoke arancini are good with marinara sauce. Loved the chicken parm and that it does not come with pasta. The fusilli pesto is divine-- very "basilly", which I loved. Frozen espresso martini had good flavor but I didn't care for the slurpy texture. Best thing was the jaramisi, as you can tell by the picture after enjoying it. More mascarpone than lady finger, which I prefer. In addition to the non-disclosed extra charge, I was also seated by the server station, which was uncomfortable and unnecessary when there were plenty of other 2-seat tables available. I really dislike restaurants that put single diners at the worst tables. One of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans always treated single dinners as VIPs. Overall, good but pricey and I will try another restaurant when in town before returning here. Or maybe just order the jaramisu as take out. read more

Dined here last Friday with girlfriends and we had dinner on the patio. I was excited to try the Franklin location, and I'm hopeful they can improve next time. We were encouraged to order everything at once and everything would be coursed out- for the most part this was fine but we ordered several appetizers and it felt like most of them arrived at the same time and overwhelmed the table with too many plates (not the end of the world, but could have been coursed better). When our pastas arrived, one of my friends ordered gluten free and the server didn't ring it in correctly, so they had to remake her pasta. No big deal, but they could have done something to make up for this since we finished our pastas before her food arrived. When we ordered dessert and drinks, the waitress skipped me for ordering a dessert or drink (I guess assuming we would all share)- no biggie, we didn't call her back, but that would have been an additional drink and dessert added to the tab. The reason for the three stars- the overall vibe was off. We felt very rushed. When the server had us pay she took our credit cards, ran them through the kiosk at the table, and yet, oddly forgot to say thank you to any of us (very simple thing to do, but very obvious when it is not done, over and over). The worst part, the minute we paid we were asked to leave our table since there were reservations and they said we were taking up reserved space (we were at a four top). As we walked out of the restaurant I spotted three other empty four tops and several other empty tables. Maybe we were not desirable guests (no idea why), but this didn't exactly give me the come back and see us soon vibes. The food was okay (hence, no real detail in this review- it wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Solid first time at Pelato. Our server, T.H, was terrific. Loved his energy. LOVED the Italian Sandwich. LOVED the Campanella Limone.

We had a reservation for 5:30 but ended up sitting at the bar and had amazing service. The limoncello margarita was an excellent start, and the we got the caprese salad & the Pelato salad, then the cauliflower and the charred broccolini. Finally the meatballs and the lemon shrimp pasta, which was probably my favorite. Everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the portions were very generous for "small" plates! read more

We had to be in Cool Springs for a medical procedure and were pleasantly surprised to find such a lovely casual Italian restaurant based on small plates. All of our servers recommendations were perfect starting with the garlic bread. Our two appetizers, roasted cauliflower and burrata with bread, were delicious. We each had our own branzino, which was ample and fabulous, and we shared a pasta pesto dish, which was more than enough to share. All together, a lovely and dining experience. read more

This restaurant offers poor value for the quality provided. While the ambiance and menu are appealing, they seem to be a pretense for overcharging for subpar Italian food marketed under a "tapas" concept. Furthermore, the service was unacceptable, as our waitress disappeared for over an hour. Good solid NYC Italian food. Shared plates are a great idea. Service was very good but no control on what came first. My only real complaint is the extreme loud environment & no tablecloths. If you want to be considered a good NY Italian, please invest in some tablecloths... white or red checkered. The owners of this who are great restauranteurs should know this. It would help with noise. Really wanted to like this place as we live Scottos in NY, but I couldn't wait to leave. Cool Springs could do with a better NY Italian atmosphere. read more

We thought we would try this new Italian restaurant located in Cool Springs, next door to Connors. We arrived at about 1:30 in the afternoon and decided to have lunch there. The menu was quite limited, and our server told us that most of the items were sharable. We ordered garlic bread, Calamari, burned broccolini, meatballs and a pasta dish. We also ordered two cocktails. The servings were scattered and not served all at the same time. First out was the garlic bread, at $7. (If you wanted a bit of sauce with your bread, it would be $3 more.) The garlic bread was rather crispy and did not taste fresh. It was a challenging chew. Normally, the exterior would be crisp, but the center would be soft. It was not all that good. Plus, it was served by a young lady with a large piercing hanging out of her nose. That grossed me out....sorry but, it did. Next came our Calamari. It looked good but, it was pretty salty. So salty that we could not enjoy it at all. We have never experienced a salty Calamari dish at any other establishment. I don't know why they felt the need to salt it as they did. The next item that came out was the burned broccolini. That was very flavorful and delicious. A bit salty but not overloaded. Then the meatballs (3) were served. Our server told us that the meatballs were cooked for eight hours in their sauce. They tasted good, were a bit bready and kind of dry for being cooked in sauce for as long as the server claimed. I am an Italian man from New Jersey, and I cook my meatballs in sauce too. The Pelato meatballs could have been more moist. However, the tomato sauce was tasty. Last out was our pasta dish. It was good, but the cheese in the sauce was too thick. They need to serve that dish a little thinner. One comment I would like to make regarding the management. If I were opening a new restaurant, I would expect my manager(s) to be visiting tables and speaking with customers. The restaurant was not too busy and it would have been an excellent opportunity for the management staff to question diners regarding the food and service. We did see a couple of management types but none of them visited any of the tables for feedback. Our tab was about $114., plus tip. For what we ordered and tasted, that seemed a bit too much. Had a party of 12. When we all sat down they promptly let us know there was a 65.00 minimum per person. "Didn't you read the contract" the manager asked. Now 65 doesn't sound so bad but just the audacity to demand that was very disrespectful to the group. Basically demanding us to spend that much. Now, with shared meals we came up over 200.00 short. And I have to admit the food was ok but nothing to write home about. But the whole fiasco put a big damper on what was supposed to be my daughter's birthday dinner. Pelato pretty well screwed that up for her and all of us. I'd suggest they take that stupid requirement down. If that's one of their policies I'd suggest everyone intending to take a group there read the fine print. First and last time we'll be visiting their establishment. read more

I wish I could give this restaurant 3.5 stars, but that is not allowed. I'm going to base this review off of service, atmosphere and food. Atmosphere was great, it was laid-back and not too formal. Very well done. The staff was eclectic and on top of everything. Very very attentive and we did not need to ask for one thing. A couple managers came by to check in on us. Here's the thing, the food is really not that much above average and is overpriced. Portions are small, I know they're shareable, but it's just too expensive to pay this much for food that's not out of this world. We got several dishes and not one was to rave about. In particular, one of our pasta dishes was way too al dente. Wish we liked it more, but we probably won't return solely based on the food. read more

Hubby and I went for my birthday. I had higher expectations for the food quality. The burrata crostini and the Pelato salad were the best choice of our meal both were flavorful. After that, it was downhill. The arancini was burnt, the calamari was too salty, the chicken parmesan was just okay. I compare it to Olive Garden food quality. The pasta was just okay. The service was excellent, although we had a mixup with the manager over us being given the wrong check. They did straighten it out. The ambiance was too loud and tables were way too close together for my liking. I may go back for the burrata crostini and salad, but that is all. read more

Amazing experience! The food was incredible and the whole place had a great energy even though it was really busy (and for good reason!!!). Our server Darius was fantastic -- super knowledgeable about the menu, made great recommendations, and was so attentive without ever making us feel rushed. A great server can really enhance the dining experience, and Darius knocked it out of the park. It was my friend's first time there and he gave a great explanation of the restaurant's roots, which was a really nice touch. One of the managers also checked in with us, and you can tell the team takes a lot of pride in what they're doing. Delicious food and attentive service in a fun (if slightly loud for conversation inside) setting right by the Galleria in Cool Springs. We had reservations so no wait, but the wait time for walk ins might have been longer on a Friday night, especially on the very nice covered patio. Standouts were the radiatore vodka, the fusilli pesto, the charred broccolini and the lobster risotto special. Our waitress Derica made the night extra special by bringing a sparkler for my daughter's celebration night. Will return soon to save room for the awesome looking dessert menu. read more

Our first time at Pelato. The food was great with the exception of the bucatini which was a little gummy and lacked salt and the clams were overdone and rubbery, however the potato croquettes, stuffed mushrooms, shrimp ravioli, and burrata, were delish and quite memorable! Cam was attentive and incredibly kind, and although a couple of dishes missed the mark, the overall experience, service, and attentiveness were exceptional. We will be back! read more

We went there last night, a group of six of us. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and left very happy. This is an Italian American style restaurant. Please do not go thinking you are going to be eating like you are in Rome or Napoli. With that said, everything we had was very good. Something's were better than others but overall excellent. This is set up to share dishes. Family style. We got the garlic bread, Pelato Salad, fresh mozzarella, potato croquettes, arribiata calamari, burrata crostini, panelle, chicken parm, pesto pasta, radiatori vodka, campanelle shrimp limone, creamy polenta with bolognese. The stars to me were the Pelato salad , polenta bolognese and the shrimp limone. They were absolutely delicious. Drenched calamari was a strong 2nd to these. I would recommend ordering some garlic bread with the polenta. It taste like lasagna without the noodles and it's needs a vessel. It management reads this, you should consider that please. Bread is cheap. I had to pay for extra garlic bread. It doesn't need to be garlic bread just something firm. Back to review. Everyone loved everything. We even shared the affogato and well, who doesn't love one of those!! Adrianna was our server and she was fantastic as well. Very attentive, a little sassy in a good way and took excellent care of us. The only think I was not super happy about was the Barolo. It's was $150 and I know there is markup but even at that price point, the Barolo was ok. It's definitely a wine that needs to decant. It improved some over dinner. I don't want that to be perceived as a huge negative. They had several other wine options. I am a sucker for a good Barolo and this one just didn't do it for me. Not accommodating. I really wanted to support this restaurant as we entertain customers on a weekly basis. I needed to increase our party size from 8 to 15 on a Tuesday night but they told me after nine people you had to guarantee $65 per person minimum. I was not prepared to guarantee for 15 people so I asked if we could just have two reservations and sat at separate tables even with separate checks if needed and they were not willing to help. I ended up having to cancel the reservation because of the lack of accommodations and they charged me $10 per person. Sadly, I will not be supporting them since they were not willing to accommodate me on a Tuesday night when all I was wanting to do was bring more business to them. read more
