Great place if you try and find it on the directions from yelp it will take you to nothing so I just called and got directions. Anyway I came for breakfast, and let me tell you this was one of the best dining experiences I've had. Everyone is so friendly, they will truly treat you like a VIP. I ordered the breakfast plate, and it will not leave hungry. The hash browns were fantastic, and the looks of them I would guess they shredded their own potatoes. I also added a side of country ham, and when it came out it was a half an inch thick and as big as the plate. Since moving to Birmingham I've been looking for a place with good country ham, well my search is over cause I've found it. When I was leaving the waitress asked if this was my first visit there and gave me a cinnamon bun. All first timers get a free cinnamon bun. I will be back and I can't wait to try lunch. read more

I would love to give this place more stars than this. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is typical diner style. The food is descent and I've been able to experience their breakfast a number of times. Their cinnamon rolls are so terrific! BUT...there should be no reason to wait for more than an hour for basic food. I'm talking eggs, bacon, grits, and a biscuit. Party of two. No explanation. Just waiting. And hungry. We left the restaurant. We were disappointed and confused. The waitress said several times the food was on its way. The restaurant isn't big but there is no way that should happen. Waffle House can do it. The diner is better than Waffle House, so it's really unfortunate that such a thing happened. read more

The service and food were the best! I chose the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. It was everything you could hope for in warm comfort food on a cold windy day. The food is always great: hot, fresh, cooked to order. We've only ever gone for breakfast. Their pancakes are fantastic, cinnamon rolls are amazing. The only reason I'm not giving them a full 5/5 is because service is sometimes a bit lacking. The servers are always super friendly, but sometimes forget to check in on their tables. Nice little hole in the wall diner for a quick bite. Had the biscuits and gravy that was just ok. Biscuits were very good, but the gravy was your average powder mix gravy with no real meat in it. Service was fast and attentive. They just need some better recipes for their gravy train. read more

Great breakfast. It was so good when we went with my 89 year old father that we went back a few weeks later. It was just as good. I highly recommend. The reason why I gave it three stars is when we came in it took almost an hour to get our breakfast. By the time we got it , it was tasteful but mine was cold. Being that I had waited an hour I was afraid to say anything about it so I basically ate just my hash browns. Owner came over and gave us a really lame excuse but was very nice about it and they also bought our breakfast. My husband and I will try it again. Maybe will go during the week or before it gets busy at 10 o'clock. I will let you know when we return how it goes. read more

Me & my boyfriend woke up early today so we could go run errands. We wanted breakfast but we're so tired of the same old fast food junk. We stumbled on Pelham Diner & we were pleasantly surprised. It's a down home feel. Made me miss the small town I grew up in. The owner was also our server & was absolutely fantastic, answering every question I could come up with. The food? I typically go for breakfast. The food is absolutely delicious, however the service was well below par. We ordered typical menu items and it took 50 minutes for the food to reach our table. This place is normally great, the food is always good and normally service is provided with a smile! However, today not so much the case. I have been here a few occasions, not normally at my best, but it never stops the girls on the line from giving me the biggest smiles and gladly dishing out some of their delicious grub! The guy, whom I am assuming is of some form of management status, begrudgingly inquired as to "what we wanted" and got out the to go boxes per usual. He never once had a smile or radiated any warmth. After he messed up on the first part of our orders and knowingly proceeded to throw off the experience without even thinking to check his own progress. I placed my personal order and just really wasn't even appealed to eat what had just looked so delicious after the way he slopped it into the container. To top off the experience, he starts accosting one of the female employees about proportions after providing the most offensive plate(proportion wise) I've been served from here. I do like this place and will be back, but in the food service industry your actual service can either make or break you and I would hate to see this happen to this place. Keep the smiles up ladies(and the fellas too)! This place is definitely worth it for a delicious soul food plate and smile, hopefully this was just an off day. read more

I work in the Hoover area and have pretty much tried everything there's to offer. My colleague suggested Pelham Diner, and man was this a GREAT decision! I came in during the lunch service around 11:30a. I chose the meat and two veggies from the hot bar selections. The baked chicken, mac n' cheese, and green beans were all cooked to perfection. Our waitress was extremely nice. To top it all off, I had to try one of the desserts. I highly recommend the peanut butter cheesecake/pie. It is out of this world delicious! Thought I'd give this place another try since it's no longer Bernettis. Went there for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. I had two eggs over easy (and they were), hashed, browned potatoes (hash browns) toast & coffee served with link sausage. LINK SAUSAGE people; something you can't find in the South (at least I can't) all for the reasonable price of $8.72. All served by a most pleasant and attentive woman whose name unfortunately I've forgotten. All in all, I would definitely go there again for breakfast and will probably try them for lunch as well. I'm giving them 5 stars because I have nothing but praise at this point, but it's only one meal so far. Things could change (but I doubt it). read more

It has that little diner feel to it. Staff is friendly & funny. You get what you pay for in my opinion. Food is great. We've been twice & I haven't found any issues but I'm originally from a very small town. Glad to see a home style restaurant close by. I'm really not a fan of what I call "chain style restaurants or their service". If you are, then your momma didn't cook very much for you. I love their big 4 egg breakfast. I do think they need to start a wall of shame for anyone who can eat & finish just 3 of their pancakes. They hang off the dinner plate by half an inch almost all the way around. I walked in with my two boys after a early soccer game. The service was great! Very friendly. Sat where there was an open table. As a first time guest we all received an complimentary homemade cinnamon roll. It was really good. The boys ordered pancakes and when they said they wanted 2 the waitress advised me that they were Huge. So glad we went with 1 each. I've heard about Pelham Diner for several months however I never made time to check it out. I finally have been able to and it's amazing! Great southern cooked food. Meat and three is delicious and the entire staff is over the top friendly. As soon as I was greeted they asked if it was my first time....without hesitation they made sure I was taken care of and even offered a free cinnamon roll (Which was amazing). EVERYTHING is soooo legit. It's all wholesome. Big fat breakfast plates I had with some folks once. Cane in for lunch and had some dank meat and 3's with again, wholesome desserts. Took a Friday off and wanted to do something different and tried breakfast there for the first time. Service was great, everybody friendly, quick to keep the coffee coming. Menu has tons of good options. I ordered a speciality plate called the Patriot. Even though menu says you cant substitute our waitress let me sub hashbrowns for grits. I ordered extra bacon and i swear i had a 12 oz pack of bacon! Hashbrowns were awesome! The pancake that came with my breakfast was only mediocre but everything else was awesome. Portions are huge. Husband had a 2 egg plate with grits, sausage and biscuits. Sausage and eggs were hot and good. The grits were made by someone who actually understands that salt, pepper and butter should be liberally applied. The biscuits, (actually 2), were special. Over all....really terrific but you arent at Waffle House. They were quite busy and it took a little time to get our food but it was definitely worth a small wait. read more

The breakfast food was delicious and reminded me of my grandmothers cooking lol. The dinner meal was good as well- tasty turnips and hamburger steaks and the Mac n cheese was great. FINALLY got to try this great little place in Pelham! My daughter and I went on Saturday morning around 10:30. It was extremely busy, as is the usual I understand; however, we were seated immediately. The wait was long (about 30 min) but the waitress and other staff were extremely nice, and I had heard prior to going that the food is worth it. And it was! If a huge Southern breakfast is what you crave--this is your place! The Yankee omelet I had was excellent--even when I asked to swap the ham for sausage. Hashbrowns on point too. I've spent years in the kitchen at home cooking big breakfasts for my kids, and I can honestly say this was a "home-cooked meal"! Can't wait to try them for lunch! read more

Having been a customer here a long time, I was surprised and disappointed with how poorly a basic breakfast was served recently. The bacon was at best half cooked and raw on the ends. But the kicker was I've never ever received hash browns so undercooked as these were with no crusty brown anywhere on them whatsoever--just greasy, mushy and warm. Yuck! We had heard great things about this place. We won't be back. First of all there was a sign outside that said the wait was 15-30 minutes. We were happy to go inside and realize there was no wait, and we were seated immediately. The waitress was pleasant and gave us plenty of time to order. However, the food took 40 minutes to arrive. The biscuits, not homemade, were burned, and the grits were dry. The taste, according to my husband because I don't eat burned biscuits, was okay, good, but not anything special. I would have been embarrassed to serve the food to a customer that this restaurant was trying to serve to us. As a means of rectifying, the front manager who was assisting us because the store manager was too busy to respond to a customer -the only way you make your money- asked what could she do. At this point I can no longer eatbecause of this ridiculousness. I said fresh biscuits, and she said it would be 40 minutes because they have to preheat the oven. Why are you in a working restaurant and your oven is not already on? She said the sign outside mentioned the wait. No actually it doesn't. Outside that sign indicates a wait for a table. If the wait is for cooking, which should NOT take that long, then the words on the sign need to indicate that as I told her. Then she said the waitress should have told us. NOPE, she didn't read more
