Awesome place to get a freshly cut Christmas tree! We saw this spot when returning from hiking in Santiago Canyon and returned yesterday to get our Christmas tree. There are a couple of options. You can: 1) Pick out a tree, have them cut it down and tie it to your roof and drive off with it 2) Pick out a tree then have them deliver it to you when you specify for $35. This includes putting it in your stand for you- sounds like a bargain! 3) Pick out a tree then come back to pick it up when you are ready for it. We chose option 1 because we were ready for our tree. Next time we might go for option 2 or 3. Because others had already selected their trees earlier in the season a lot of them were already sold. There were still a lot of nice ones to choose from and we had no problem finding the perfect one for us. There appeared to be two species of trees for sale - one juniper type that were kind of stickery. Those were mainly sold. The other type was more like a traditional Douglass Fir but a little lighter with thinner needles. We selected the second variety. Their website states they breed a special variety of pine that is well suited for California. Our tree smells heavenly in our home, it was fun to pick it out and it is nice that it is so fresh. Buying locally is a nice perk as well. They did a great job tying it to the roof. We also purchased their tree stand which was a snap to put up. The cost was comparable to visiting a tree lot. We got a 6 ft tree, and stand for just under $100. I am sure those of you in Oregon are laughing heartily at that price tag. It is reasonable for California. We had a great experience overall. read more

Love how the staff handled the opening day. They let people park and immediately go choose your tree. There were alot of people that lined up in their cars waiting to open and when they opened they had good control of the crowd. As soon as you parked you can go and look for your tree. I hope they continue with 1st come 1st serve operation. read more

Great place to get your Christmas trees! Get there early tho, as always expected, best looking trees go fast. They also have those hypoallergenic trees (we will try one of those next year). The cutting crew is awesome, especially the mister who let my little nephew join in cutting it from the ground (gave him extra Tree cutting tip for him cuz my nephew was so proud of "cutting" down auntie's Tree). This was the second year we went to peltzer. Last year we went a bit later in the year and the selection was only so-so. Still that's not there fault, so this year we decided to go early to get the best Christmas tree we could. We went opening day and picked out a pretty nice tree. The appeal isn't just that you can pick your own live tree, but that you can come back whenever you want after buying it and then retrieve it. So we go back to retrieve our tree and it's gone. Now they did have a reserve section of trees and we were able to pick one of those, but we weren't given any sort of refund for their mistake. You're paying a premium for these trees and the experience but when it fails to deliver you might as well save your money and go to the Christmas tree lots. read more

We've been coming here to get our tree for over 20 years. Have been slightly disappointed the last couple of years with the quality of the trees, but keep coming back due to tradition. This year is the worst, seems that the number of taller trees was less, we still picked a tree we thought was a nice shape and color. When we went to pick it up it appeared sickly as a lot of the needles appeared a weird lime green color and once we got it home had trouble getting it straight in the stand as the trunk was so crooked, even with all our work, it's still not straight, seems a bit much for a $100 tree. We may have to break tradition next year. read more

What a nightmare this year!!!!! We got there by 5:02am as we have for 20 years (b/w Irvine and now Silverado local in total) and this makes me want to never waste my time. In the past, we would get there in our cars and park. We would lineup in chairs and wait for the entry at 9 AM. Ironically, last year was the best executed year ever because of Covid restrictions. This year was a disaster. It was a mass entry regardless of when you got there. We got there at the crack of dawn to wait in line, and people who arrived at 8am and later were allowed to get in line for a mass marathon run in. For as much as we pay for these trees, and the tradition of how things have been run in the past, this was a disgrace. What a let down for so many years of customer loyalty! When we first arrived we loved everything about this place. So many people enjoying the rows of Christmas trees in such a small town setting. It felt like Christmas should. We choose our tree, paid, they cut it down and strapped it on the car for us. No extra charge, but of course we tipped. Unfortunately a week or so later, our tree was dying. We gave it lots of water and attention but it just didn't want to hold up. I contacted the Peltzer Pines customer service and was treated like royalty. They took my concerns seriously, respected that my family appreciates our tree and the Christmas celebration and made sure that I was happy. A new tree was selected for me, cut down, brought to my house and installed the same day. The new tree is gorgeous and we're on our way to an amazing first Christmas for our new son. Warning to others: went on November 29th and couldn't find a single Leyland Cypress in the 6-8ft range that wasn't tagged.(not just that we liked or disliked, not a single tree) that wasn't already tagged. Ended up going to Brea location and they had a ton to choose from there. I am all about supporting small businesses and good for them that business is booming. Just wondering if there is a better system? Hope they don't get stuck with a ton of unsold trees from people pulling tags. read more

We went with our 6 month old in hopes of having a great experience to get her first Christmas tree. There were a bunch of beautiful trees 6-8' but were all marked as sold. We left without a tree and such a disappointing experience. I have no idea how so many trees are marked as sold but based on other reviews, it sounds like it's a recurring problem. The farm itself is very nice and big. The landscape of the area is beautiful. It was very much an experience but I don't think we will be coming back. They basically have one type of pine. There are some different varieties but there aren't very many. We also wanted the enjoyment of cutting it down ourselves but we didn't get the opportunity. This is why we are paying a premium for our tree right? (Btw the prices are higher than the prices on their website) We selected and paid for our tree (6-7ft for $86+tax)then we were told to give our ticket to one of the guys in an orange best and tip them whatever we want. Umm ok? On their website it clearly states that they have hand saws available to use to cut down your own tree. So my husband asked one of the guys if he could borrow his saw to cut down our tree. Then the man asked for his ticket walked to the tree, cut it down and plopped it into the bed of the truck and walked away. It was so fast that my hubby just threw his hands up and shook his head. The workers are all young, local teens that are super friendly. The guy who cut our tree and loaded it into my friends truck was quick and helpful. It was a $76 tree, and many had already been picked over. I guess what you're paying for is the ambience of the place. Suggestion: go on a weekday if you can help it. It gets so packed, you have to wait in a long line of cars to finally get your tree. read more

Very helpful crew on site. The trees can't get any fresher. You won't see some of this Northern pine species, but still a great tree for the family to enjoy. We went up the weekend before Christmas and the place was well picked over, however there were still decent trees to pick from. Probably will buy from them again next year only get there in early December. Trees are a bit higher in price than most, but the others aren't freshly cut so you can't really compare the two buying experiences. So bummed with this year's experience This was our 4th year going to Peltzer to choose and cut our tree, we love supporting local family owned businesses The last 3 years have been amazing and we always recommend peltzer to friends and family both for their amazing trees and the experience, unfortunately this year was much different We purchased our tree opening day and chose to wait to bring it home We returned today (2 weeks later) to pick it up After waiting in the take home line the cutter walked us to the tree, when he pointed at it I literally said "this one?!" as it appeared to have a large hole, which I am very picky about but figured it had been an oversight when we picked it out, he then double checked the tag and commented on "how weird they retagged it?!" We cut down the tree, loaded it in the truck, tipped him and headed home We got it home, unloaded it, trimmed it and even got the tree stand on, we then cut off the ticket at which point my husband realized it wasn't the correct tree We had picked and paid for tree (row 41 tree 30) but ended up with (row 44 tree 30) My husband called the number on the receipt and was informed to take the tree back to the lot and asked to speak with Dan We returned to the farm and spoke with autumn who told Dan about what had happened, in an effort to avoid having to cut down a second tree we asked if there was anyway a discount could be given on our tree or coupon towards next year's Dan then exclaimed that because our tree was the same cost as the tree that we had gotten cut we should be considered "even" I explained to him that we felt this tree was not the same quality as the one we had picked and he shrugged Unfortunately because they did not work to make the situation right or offer a discount towards a tree for next year we requested that our original tree be cut We were then told to wait in the tree cut line again which was even longer than before and direct the cutters to "just put the tree we didn't want in the back" Nick saw us in line and a tree in our truck bed and asked what was going on, we informed him of the situation and he allowed us to cut the line The cutters pulled the wrong tree from the truck bed and went to retrieve ours 3 hours later we have our tree but are disappointed in how the whole situation was handled and the lack of customer service read more

It was an awesome experience picking out our tree and having the kids help out cut it for the first time. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because we showed up the weekend after Thanksgiving to get our tree and a lot of the good trees already had sold signs on them. I'm all about seeing the forest from the trees, the big picture, and this time of year is great for that! Fresh out of Thanksgiving weekend I'm thankful for a lot of things. At the top of that list is my FAMILY. We have been cutting down our own Christmas tree now for as long as I can remember, a family tradition that is being passed on to our next generation. It's been a lot harder since moving to So Cal where tree farms are pretty scarce, the whole drought detail and all. I've been coming to this family owned farm now for several years and although these trees are more expensive than what you can find at Home Depot or Costco, or the long term saving investment of a fake bark pine, I just remember that it's not the tree I'm paying for but rather it is the experience and memories with my family. This place opens up the weekend before Thanksgiving and many of those families that have got their ACT together get here in advance, pick & pay for the best trees on the lot, then later come back in December to cut them down at their leisure. I, on the other hand, can never seem to get my STUFF together sooner so I end up here right after Turkey Time and find that more than half the lot seems to have been tagged and sold. Nevertheless there are many fine trees to still be had! Remember cash or check only, they have an ATM but just bring cash anyway. The workers are all friendly and cheerful from the gate greeters to the cashier girls (who will honor the coupon from the website even if you don't have one!), and also the cutters that will cut, drag and load your tree for free if you like! OH but NOT ME! When I informed my unwitting Santa's helper that I would be cutting the tree myself, there was a brief pause and perhaps moment of disbelief. But YES I ALWAYS cut my own tree, IT'S TRADITION! And well I like getting dirty too so it's a win-win! The line for the tree cutters is a bit of a wait but that's more time to play tag among the rows of pines! Beautiful views, awesome photo ops, and fresh crisp pine air! Great for kids and dogs! Beautiful location, great selection and wonderful family tradition of visiting this tree farm every year. If you like Noble Firs, this is not the place for you. The pines here are the bushier type which I grew to love because bringing our boys to the tree farm has become part of our annual Christmas tradition. They have a variety of sizes but if you want a really tall one (8-9'), go early (at least before Thanksgiving) to pick out and reserve your tree. read more
