I purchased my first firearm from Peninsula Guns and Tactical today, and everyone at the shop was extremely helpful and friendly. One staff member, Cal, really stood out. I went in completely sure that I would be leaving with a 1911. Cal showed me other options, answered all my questions, and helped me decide that a Sig Sauer P220 was going to suit my needs better than a 1911 would. Great selection but I wouldn't recommend this place for newbies. They're more than happy to sell you something, but not all that great with showing you proper safe handling of a weapon upon pickup. After a Glock purchase I was being helped by one of the managers and when I fumbled a bit with loading/unloading the manager didn't bother showing me what I was doing wrong or suggesting a better way to handle it. This was my first handgun purchase. He just kept raising his voice telling me to do it again and again until he felt I got it right. Since, I've visited and made purchases at 3 other shops around the Bay Area where they were much more friendly and patient. I'm happy to travel a bit for better friendlier service so I now go to a shop in Vallejo where they're much more respectful. read more

If you are a beginner and/or looking for a specific firearm please stay away from this place. I inquired about a firearm with an m-lok rail and was told they had it. Once I came in, the mood and staff is not very welcoming. I am not there to make friends but there is a level of professionalism and customer service that should make customers feel welcome. I was attended to and let them know I was the one who inquired about the firearm. When I requested to see the firearm I was given the one I asked for but WITHOUT the m-lok rail. I told the employee that he had told me they had it, he tells me this is the only one I had and if I was interested. I said not thank you, the employee looked at another employee and mocked me in a voice saying " oh because it's not m-lok" they both laughed and I walked out. If they had been competent enough to know what I inquired about they would have just told me they don't have it and I wouldn't have wasted their time and more importantly mine. It is unfortunate this is one of the very few If not only firearms dealer in the sf/peninsula area. Will never return and I am happy I was unable to conduct business with this place. read more

I like supporting local businesses but there are other 2A stores on the peninsula with much more competitive firearm and ammo prices with comparable service. Also very crowded on the weekends. TLDR; super crowded with good service but EXTREMELY expensive. I've always tried to support local stores when I can but there is a limit on how much more I'm willing to pay to support them otherwise I'm just being stupid. First of all, the store front is extremely small with a locked gate so just wait at the gate and they will buzz you in, push hard on the gate when it buzzes. The store is almost always busy and I have a feeling it's probably the busiest gun store in the Bay Area since I've been to many. There are only 2 aisles in the store so just line up on either and the people working there (there are usually at least 3 people working there and sometimes 5) so they will get to you. They are good at acknowledging you after you line up. I don't have all the data points but I can tell you that when I inquired about Mossberg maverick 88, I was quoted $400 (pretax or fee). Note that the MSRP is $250 and sportsmans warehouse (not sportsmen supply) had it on sale for $200. I was impatient so I got the last in stock one from Reed's at $300. This is just one data points but it gives you an idea of the pricing difference. The other pricing difference is ammo. For example, a shorty 12 gauge is about $13-17 for a box of 10 but about $9 for #8 at Bass Pro Shops. The main stickler I have with the store is that if I use this store for FFL transfer of online ammo it's $75 for a box of 250 shells. So that's basically 35% up charge for the store. So you may be asking why I'm still giving the 3 stars for charging so much? Well, for one thing they do have decent service (although I'd argue not charging so much for commodity is part of good service). For example, when I originally called the store for FFL, I was quoted $75 for 1000 rounds but it turned out it's "up" to 1000 rounds so for my 1000 rounds, because it was separated into 4 boxes (even though it's one shipment) I was quoted $300 (4x$75) when I went to pick up. But the guy was nice enough to charge me $150 due to the misunderstanding. Note that I went online route initially because even when I tried to buy in bulk (whole case) from this store the pricing was more than the pricing of the buying individually from Big 5. So if you are pricing insensitive then this is a great place to go but if you are even moderately pricing sensitive that you don't mind paying 10%-20% more than online then look else where. Note that not all the stores do FFL for ammo so you may have to use this place but just be aware of the pricing so you don't get surprised. read more

Let me preface this review by staying the following: I am not a 2A fanatic, I believe there should be common sense gun laws, it definitely shouldn't be super easy to buy a gun, i.e., background check for ALL, licensing, etc. Rant over. SO... I recently went to visit my older brother who is a very proud firearm enthusiast (Also retired USMC) in NC. We went to the range a few times and did some target practice. Let me tell you, it's FUN, and maybe I'm a mediocre shot at best lol. I get back home and I'm thinking, 'hey I grew up with firearms maybe I should get one for the eventual zombie apocalypse?' Next step, where to go??? YELP... of course! Peninsula Guns & Tactical is where! I showed up having knowledge of firearms, but never owning one. Nor did I know about the California Roster (Look it up). Anyhow I picked a pistol, got my license, did the background check, waited the mandatory 240 hours, and picked it up! I got an Sig Sauer P365-Xmacro. As a kid I recall shooting and the recoil rocking my reality, but as an adult, it's not bad at all. Price was ok, but it's the CA tax that tends to really increase what you spend. Service was amazing, and they were/are super helpful when it comes to ANY questions you have. When I went to pick up the firearm, they go over safety, loading, unloading, and even ask you to demonstrate that you know how to do it. Whatever you want a firearm for, whether it be as a hobby, or home defense... be educated on it. Just the "quick" tip... GO THERE! It amazes me how well they work together especially when it's busy. I went there to buy a Walther PDP and they were sold out. No problem, filled out some paperwork, put down a small amount of $ towards a compact version and a few days later I got the message that they have arrived. I dropped by to check it out and instantly wanted the full-size . Again no problem at all . Paid the remaining balance took the quick common sense multiple choice safety test and 10 days later picked up my new full-size PDP and a few rounds to go . I had a firearm shipped to the store for a dealer transfer and it was easy, fast, and efficient. The staff are always busy with customers but will never leave you hanging. These guys are funny, easy going, and very knowledgeable. I have been to other gun stores where employees don't really care for your business, don't take the time to help other customers, and give an attitude because a novice customer decides to exercise their 2A with their first firearm. I've been coming here for a few years and have always been kindly helped. My last two visits were exceptional however. I initially came in to buy a new slide and red dot optic for my Glock 19, Chad spent a good deal of time with me helping me out, even though they were extremely busy. When I got home, back to the East Bay, I realized that the wrong slide was snagged for me in the bustle, no big deal, stuff happens when a shop is busy. I've owned small shops of my own and I been on the retail end of this and it's unfortunate but it happens. I needed to make a trip back across the bay after the weekend to swap out for the correct slide. Fast forward a couple of days, I return, braving bay bridge traffic, explain the situation, and Sal goes out of his way to not only swap out for the correct slide, he installed all new iron sights and bore sighted the optic for me while I waited. They not only made it right, they went out of their way to go above and beyond. This place is always a little busy to very busy and for them to take the time to make it right says a lot. I took a couple pf Glock pistols to Peninsula Guns and Tactical today to have them cleaned, and I'm so disappointed because they did a really poor job "cleaning" the guns. Don't get me wrong, the people working there are very polite and very courteous, but when I got home and took a closer look at the guns I could see an excess amount of oil all over the inside of the guns. I immediately removed the slide, barrel, etc. and upon closer inspection I found multiple areas of the gun still dirty, (even the barrel), who leaves a barrel dirty? All I can assume is that someone was in a hurry to clean the guns, or they were just to lazy to do a good job. In either case the person that was responsible for the cleaning probably never thought I was going to disassemble the guns to check them. Perhaps they assumed if I asked them to clean the guys that I didn't know how to do it, wrong! I was just trying to save time. I live to far away to take the guns back and have them cleaned again, so I took my pictures and video and cleaned them myself. The few times I've gone in, I've overheard some "interesting" requests/situations so I can only image what the staff deals with on a daily basis. Great business. Great customer service Great quality guns. As a first time gun purchaser with very limited understanding about guns. In order to purchase a gun you must pass a firearm safety test. I appreciate how Sal took the time to allow me to understand which questions I got wrong and why this helps me be a safer gun owner. I passed the test however I did not get every question right. This an example of how Peninsula Guns and Tactical cares about educating people which I value. Once inside I explained I had no idea what the difference between a 45 and a 9mm was. They showed me the different bullet size and explained the difference. Then I could decide which type of gun I wanted to purchase. I was looking for something for home defense and I settled on a 45. They showed me a variety of 45's let me hold and fire them explaining some subtle differences and I was ready to make my decision. There's a background check before you can take home your handgun. Gun safety is a priority (they taught me many important things about gun safety- for example when I tried checking the gun to see if it was unloaded I didn't realize that I was pointing the weapon in an unsafe direction. They mentioned what I did and asked me to retry checking that the gun was unloaded. Which I could then do safely because I was aware of where I pointed the gun while I checked. They are a one stop shop so I got ear protection, eye protection, a range case, locks, range ammo and home defense ammo. They did just as they said they contacted me when my background check was done and let me know I could come and pick up my purchase. When I returned to pick up my purchase I decided I was also going to acquire a 9mm - same process showing me options of what they had and allowed me to decide if I wanted to purchase or not. Again there was another background check waiting period. I got some ammo for the 9mm. When I return to pick up a 9mm Omar recognized me, greeted me and checked in with me about if I had a chance to fire the 45 yet. I had not but was great to have a quick exchange even though he wasn't helping me that day. I decided that I was going to purchase a long gun so I asked them to show me some options and make some recommendations and I settled on a shotgun for home defense. For the shotgun I purchased there was a background check which was fine. I was also able to get some shotgun ammo and a case to keep all of my guns secure and locked as a parent that was important to me. I was also able to purchase for each of my guns some dummy bullets so that I could practice with (fake bullets) safely loading / unloading my guns. Which they taught me with each gun I picked up. Following COVID-19 safety protocols. I made all my purchases during COVID-19 times, I felt safe at their store. They follow COVID protocols- the door is open for air circulation, they only allow a certain number of customers inside at a time, there's markings on the floor for maintaining physical distance, there is plenty of hand sanitizers all throughout the store, there are cups labeled used and unused for pins, and I did see the staff wearing masks. I wore my mask each time and I feel safe and comfortable there. I like the way I felt there as a customer with no gun knowledge or gun owner experience. Today after doing some online research I went to Peninsula Guns to purchase some hearing protection. As I was taking with Chad, R.J must of overheard our conversation and without missing a beat he proceeded to hand me a pair of Savior (Apollo) electronic sound suppressors, and he told me that this is the same hearing protection that he uses when he shoots. Needless to say I purchased the item and as soon as I put it on, it became evident that R.J was 100% on point and that EVERYONE who works at PENINSULA GUNS and TACTICAL has a level of product knowledge that is hard to find at other places!!!!! Peninsula Guns and Tactical store sold me a defective firearm. I informed the Peninsula Guns" about the merchandise I purchased in full price has missing parts and it is not functional. At first, they are denying the problem and insists they cannot see the issue at the photos I sent (with "markings" to point out the issue) I referred Families and Friends and this is how I was treated. Omar insulted me and was told to contact the manufacturer myself to complain. And "NO RETURNS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT COSTCO" basically when you buy from the Peninsula Guns and Tactical it will be AS IS. DISCONTINUED, NONFUNCTIONAL They don't care. They will make you wait for months for nothing. Not knowing the Firearms I bought was defective and already been discontinued if I did not contacted the CEO of Trojan Arms I would not know and still be waiting... I waited very patiently for months since Aug 2020. It is now end of October 2020. They just kept denying. Trojan just confirmed also that it is in fact the discontinued item they sold me because it has a slot and holes where the feed ramp goes so yes it is missing a part and still sold it to me. BEWARE!!!! Beginners like me, hoping that in time of urgency I have something to protect my Family but I was left with piece of discontinued Item that cost me $300.I paid in full at the time of purchase. I did not ask for a discount but received defective nonfunctional merchandise that was discontinued 3 years ago that I just learned just now but still for sale on this store. This is my second purchase at Peninsula Guns & it's a lot easier than buying from Bass Pro Shop. I made a online purchase & got an email telling me it arrived. I went down to the San Jose store to get the paperwork started & was told I have to be there at 5 in the morning just to get on the wait list. you have to be there in person & for that day only - no online appointments. That's a hard no sale for me. Later that day, I stopped at Peninsula Guns, walked in & pick-up a Buckmark 22 that was in stock. They got the paperwork started & I got out in about an hour. I've come in for many things- whether it is to make a P2P transfer (which they did for me on the spot without an appointment which I am eternally grateful for), to buy ammo, look and get a feel for certain guns (even let me try out the LEO only selection to see if they fit my hand well), or just shoot the shit and see what selection they had on hand. They're always super nice and helpful. Never felt pressured to buy anything or felt stupid to ask questions. Just don't be a dick and be safe and all the staff will be nice to you. So if you're new to 2A, welcome and you'll have a great time here. Be aware they keep the door locked so be patient and don't try to barge in. You need to be buzzed. After doing my homework, I've come to the realization that all the guns stores in the bay this one and the one in Pacifica city arms have a monopoly on the gun market and hike up the price on guns 100-200 plus per firearm. Anyone reading this don't support these gun stores make the drive and go to the valley specifically called2arms out in Modesto. A true gun store who are there to help you purchase a firearm not at a inflated price. These gun store cant even do a simple private transfer without a appointment. I assume its because ur not buying a firearm at a inflated price and thier not making money off it. You can order ammo online and have ship to a ffl dealer these guys want 75per case called2arms charges 20 a case or 3-5% of total purchase price which ever is higher i bought about 1k worth of ammo and was charged 63 bucks its worth the drive. These guys just have a monopoly because noone knows any better do ur homework and go outside the bay unless u like paying 100-200 mark up on guns read more
