I went here to get my flex pipe repaired after being in a car accident, and it was the worst experience I've ever had with a mechanic shop. I noticed an issue with the work done on my car and the workers dismissed my concern and hung up on me. I had my father call as well, and they hung up on him too. The mechanic who supposedly fixed the flex pipe, used the wrong supplies and I ended up having to pay another company to fix their work. This is the only mechanic shop I have ever had an issue with. I will never be recommending this shop or taking my car here again. read more

Trustworthy. I brought in a tire with a slow leak. Turned out the tire was fine but the rim was bent. They bent it back and reinstalled the tire. No Charge!! The norm is that auto repair places want to find more things to charge you and you have to watch your back. This is not my first positive experience with this locations. read more

I stopped by Penn Muffler on a Saturday morning because my mechanic recommended them highly for any muffler/exhaust work. My exhaust pipe had a leak that needed to be welded/replaced. The staff was friendly, helpful, and slotted me in nearly-immediately for the evaluation (and eventual repair). They went over their diagnosis (not pushy, and reasonably-priced) with me, and I told them to proceed with replacing 2 pieces of my exhaust pipe. The tech estimated an hour & fifteen minutes. All of the other customers in the waiting room seemed pleased and friendly with the service, just a nice indicator of a quality establishment. Noticing interactions between the staff & customers (including on the phone), they were always helpful, patient, and friendly. My SUV only took an hour to fix, and the repairs were very reasonable. Hopefully I won't have any future issues... but if I do, I'll be glad that I can use Penn Muffler to help me out! read more

WORST management I have ever dealt with (His name is Joe Wilson) All this shop see's is profit and doesn't man up to their OWN mistakes. If you need work done. DO NOT GO TO PENN MUFFLER. I took my car in for them to weld something on my exhaust. Upon receiving my car back, my leather seats had 2 deep gashes on them, with pieces of the leather sitting on the seat from the tech getting in and out of the car. Joe reviewed the video and there wasn't a clear shot of my car in the bay and the quality of the video from a far was bad so you couldn't see if anything was in the pockets of the tech. after reviewing, since he "couldn't see anything" they completely denied that it happened at the shop EVEN THOUGH WHEN IT WAS DROPPED OFF IT WAS RIPPED so they won't Man up to their own mistakes and cover the cost of getting it repaired. read more

The staff is always knowledgeable and professional, i've never had a problem with any of the work that they performed on any of my vehicles, work always performs in a timely professional manner, Penn Muffler will even install customer supplied parts, I highly recommend these guys, this is the only place I take my car to, if they can't fix the problem they will recommend someone who can. After reading these reviews I thought great let me give them them a call to discuss a custom exhaust on a 2021 Supra . The first gentleman I spoke to on the phone was helpful and very polite . So why I was in the area the following day I decided to stop in so I could get a more exact quote as instructed by the first guy I spoke to on the phone . This is where my 1 star comes from . I walk in to a grumpy ass old man sitting at the counter who doesn't even greet me until I stand in front of the window for a minute. Then in the same grumpy attitude address me. I explain I called yesterday and how I had talked to someone previously and because I couldn't remember the name shrugs me off as I'm trying to explain the job. "Ok sorry I can't remember his name but I did speak to a gentlemen here about the job" with out saying anything slides a pink pad and pen through the window . Fill this out it'll be a hour atleast 4 ahead of you . I say just for a quick estimate if you guys can do the job ? Yea - his one word answer. Well I didn't Have a hour to wait before it even gets put on a lift . So I pushed the pad back and said I'll have to come back . Then this guy rudely says well on a day you have the time then come back . Ludicrous response to ever address a customer in that tone . You never know what your customers day or time or work is . I own a business and would fire one of my employees for addressing a client that way and at the same time losing out on a decently expensive job. I'd never trust my car being cared for the way it should after dealing with this guys attitude. So instead I'll take my custom single Exit Supra job and also had another job of qtp cut outs and custom exhaust install on a Maserati else where . I can't say anything about their work because I never made it that far but no way in hell am I'm leaving one of my vehicles with a company who treated me the way I was . Listen, if you are looking for that old school customer service and honesty go no further than Universal. Been working on an 03 Avalanche that use to be a farm truck and sat for a couple of years so you can imagine the work I had ahead of me. Most of the work was done by myself however I am no mechanic by trade. That is where these guys come in. First I gave them my truck and asked what I need to be done to make it pass inspection. They gave me the list and I went on. They didn't try to sell me any of the work and gave me advise about some of the repairs. Most of the work I did myself however I gave them some of the work and it was done on time and correctly. The truck is still in process however these guys know there stuff and explained everything to me. They even told me what to look out for when making such repairs to save me some money. I mostly worked with Bill (owner) and Chris who are very professional. They treated my rust bucket as it was there own. Believe me, don't go anywhere else. read more

Went there in early April of 2018 to have my loud exhaust repaired. The estimate was $756. Was told that 2 catalytic converters and a section of pipe would have to be replaced implying that the cats were bad. Took it to another place within a mile and they did the work for less than half the price. This second place told me that there was nothing wrong with the cats and that apparently it was just expedient for Penn to not do a repair but instead replace a whole section of pipe with new cats already installed. They really don't have you bottom line at heart!. Will NEVER go there again. read more

I tried to hit 5 stars but would only show 4. I was told at a Jiffy Lube that all of my brakes were metal to metal and that I would be in danger if I left the shop and drove home. Knowing that I only use Penn for my brake work, I took a gamble and drove to Pennsauken for them to inspect. They removed all four of my tires ... called me into the service area to show me that I had more tha 50% left all the way around!! They put my tires back on and told me to have a great day. No bill ... no fee!! Fast forward 14 months later I just changed out my front brakes because Joe informed me that I still had time for the rear brakes. It would have been so easy for them to have told me that I needed brakes the first visit.... but they didn't! And it would be easy to tell me I needed rear brakes the second time.... again they did not! This is a HONEST shop not out to rip you off or do unnecessary repair work!! While there a woman came in because she heard a noise while driving. They said they would diagnose her vehicle but by law she was covered under her warranty from the dealer. The woman called the dealership and they said it would be $149. for her to bring it in. She relayed what she was told about a NJ law and after a few minutes on hold they told her to come over with no fee. Women .... you are safe here!!! Lol. The people that work here were incredibly polite and knowledgeable about auto repairs. There is a big waiting room with comfy chairs. It's definitely not a dark dingy auto shop. When I dropped off my truck the service writer was was very welcoming and pleasant. They called with an estimate in a timely manner, explained all the repairs and answered my questions about them. They let me know about when to expect the work to be done. And called me as soon as it was done. The estimated was right on point. They have convenient hours. I used to be a satisfied customer of Penn Muffler. Not any more. Let me explain. Many years ago I needed an exhaust system but the y-pipe was connected to the catalytic converter. However only the pipe was rusted, the converter was good . A parts store told me he didn't see any way around buying a new converter to replace the exhaust pipe. I took the car to Penn Muffler and they cut the pipe off the converter, custom fitted and welded a new pipe on to the converter and saved me a lot of money. I was very happy customer then. However over these last few years my experiences with them have been anything but happy. About five years ago I had a pipe replaced by them. A few months later (this car is a locally used, twice a week or so second car therefore not much usage) the exhaust system came apart under the car as I was driving on Route 130 near Cooper River Park on a Friday evening in the summer. Thankfully the traffic was light that evening and I was able to get the car off the road into a parking lot. I got some wire, lifted the pipe up and took it to my mechanic. He put it on his lift and told me he couldn't fix it because of the bend and suggested I take it to Penn Muffler which wasn't far away. I told him that is who "fixed" it. He couldn't believe it because he said they put two pipes of different sizes together and that is why the pipes worked themselves loose. The mechanic was nice enough to take the car there for me the next day and, of course, Penn Muffler denied doing it . They fixed it right this time for another payment. I got over it and I figured perhaps it was just a bad day on their part. I took the car there a few months ago in September and was told I needed an exhaust system, which I did. After they "fixed it" I took the car out to Long Island over the Thanksgiving weekend to give it some mileage, as I only drive it locally and during the day a couple days per week. It got me there fine. On Friday I was driving at night for about 35 minutes and I stopped at the store. I got back in the car and it was as dead as if there were no battery in the car. Long story short I got the car towed to a mechanic my brother knew to get it diagnosed for electrical problems the next day. Now I'm stuck in Long Island, it is Saturday and the mechanic is not open Sunday, I'm trying to figure out how I'm getting back to Jersey, if I'll have to come back to get my car the next week and this guy charges $95.00 an hour and we have no idea what is wrong. I'm losing hope about the car being fixed that day. At 3:35, 25 minutes before the mechanic closes, he called to say the car was ready. When I got there he said - You just got a new exhaust system. He handed me a cable and said - They took the torch and burned half way through it and taped it up. That was the problem. He handed me the cable and a $250.00 bill. I didn't go back to Penn Muffler to complain about it because they would have dened it, especially a couple months later. It could have been much worse both times, I could have been stranded anywhere. I know what happened both times and I know who's fault it was. And I know this too - I will never go back to Penn Muffler. read more
