Dining in Doylestown, Pennsylvania sure has a unique advantage over the rest of the region. The culture, the arts, the sophistication and of course the premium income level of its population are all contributing factors to this tiny town in Bucks County maintaining its position as one of the Northeast's premier day trip destinations for the inhabitance of New York City, New Jersey, Maryland and even parts of Virginia. As a person that's lived here all my life I've eaten in every pub and restaurant in town. Some places open and become real local hotspots others come and go with the wind. Recently, I've eaten at a newer place in town and I'm completely blown away. It's a small eatery called the Penn Taproom located smack dab in the center of town. This place literally has everything. Of course to a person that hasn't dined in this town one could construe the menu to be a bit pricey but for a couple or bunch of friends that has eaten in Doylestown before, they fall in line with the rest of the local eateries. The downstairs is a classic little bar. Spotless and cozy this has become the place to be that has put all other bar owners in town on alert, this is the new hot spot. If you are looking for more of a quaint atmosphere for a date or quiet evening with some close friends go upstairs. The dimmed lighting, soothing music and calm aura of this historical 200 year old building gives a classic atmosphere combined that will win your heart fast. I promise you, go there once with your friends or significant other and it will instantly become 'your place'. Service is another factor that makes or breaks a location. I have to admit, we've had such horrific service locally for so long it took time to understand that the wait staff and busboys were genuinely trying to give us a memorable experiences with incredibly friendly, absolutely non pretentious service and speedy delivery of piping hot, fresh and absolutely lip-smacking culinary delights. Look, I'm not a writer, I'm just a guy and when I see something good, I want to tell others about it. Penn Taproom is absolutely the best place in town, my friends and I have made it 'our place' to dine when they are in town and my wife and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else on a cold blustery evening where warm hearts and a friendly atmosphere are needed. read more

Nice location and outdoor patio dining. Good service. One note to server is don't swipe the appetizer plate off the table when the entrees come out, when there was still 1/3 of the appetizers left that we wanted to finish. Didn't even ask us if we were finished with them.....just swiped them. I was like WAIT! BRING IT BACK! But the server ran off so fast with it. Can I have $3 back for the third I didn't get to finish???? Hope you and the kitchen staff enjoyed them! The food was just okay. Our table ordered burgers. We were asked how we wanted them done. Most said Medium Rare. They all came out well done and dry. Why bother asking us how we wanted them cooked then? The wing appetizer we had had so much sauce poured....i mean poured....over them, it was a real mess to eat. The rest of the meal was just okay, but they could improve a little in their cooking skills and catering to the customers order. This place is better for the drinks, then the food. Love this place!! I have a dog and love to get my European on and bring her to dinner with me. She is very well behaved and the waitstaff loves her! I cannot get enough of the veggie burger and the fries are pretty good as well! Pumkin beer is always a plus as well. read more

Great place to congregate. My BFF's regular lunch date spot ... usually in the summer for their nice edge of town outdoor seating. Consistent offerings of pub fare, with a decent amount of choice on the menu. My brother and I have met more than a few times for their great craft beer selection. My husband and I decided to go to the Taproom in Doylestown, PA. I must say I was extremely disappointed with the service on May 2, 2018 after 8:00pm . We sat there for at least 20 minutes and asked someone on staff if anyone was going to take our order. His response was some one will be right over she's on the computer. We waited another 5 to 10 minutes and no one came by. I felt like we were invisible to the staff, waiters and the manager . As a result, my rating would be 000000 stars. Stay away unless your looking to drink a beer. We live in Doylestown and eat out on a regular basis. We gave Penn Taproom a second try and ordered a Burger and Salad. Food is poor, service bad, and they need a chef that can deliver all entrees to the table together. They have no idea of a simple Cobb salad, including delivering missing components on a second plate after asking about them. Your risk...your money! Doylestown, PA is home to a lot of unique little restaurants. This is not one of the best. The decor and atmosphere is plain and uninspired. It would feel more at home in a strip mall or airport than a neat town hosting odd museums, unique architecture, an indie movie theater and many more inspiring eateries. The beer list is small for a self-identified "taproom," although it's true that the selections are well-curated. Local and more distant unique craft brews, along with popular standard offerings, are available. But if folks are hitting the Taproom looking for beer choices, local choices like Mesquito Grill, MOM's and Muggs have more diverse offerings. The menu has a few neat highlights but is mostly predictable bar food. A personal pet peeve occurred last night. Craving a burger, at the server's prompting I ordered mine medium rare. I hoped for a juicy, pink-inside scrumptious burger, but what I received was very well done. The texture was dry, and a lot of the flavor lacking. The server's unsurprised reaction when I pointed this out in a low key way - no yelling, no sending back, no asking for it to come off the bill - made me suspicious this happens a lot. Most times I leave the taproom, my chitchat on the walk home consists less of excitement about the meal and more of wondering why we keep going back. We've never been wow'ed, and at those prices ($11 burgers plus an extra $4 for fries) I expect "wow". I can get "wow" in Doylestown. So why go here? read more

This restaurant/bar is arguably my favorite in Doylestown. The food is always outstanding and the beer selection is right along with it. The atmosphere is great always filled with live music and sports. Its the perfect place to go in the spring or summer because of the outside area which is beautiful. Best of all is the service from the bartenders to the wait staff. Every single one I've encountered has been very friendly and very accommodating. I really want to like this place, but it has issues. First, we were seated upstairs and there was only 1 waiter for 8-10 full tables! He was hustling, but never even acknowledged us for 20 minutes. He finally came over to take our drink order, which then took another 15 minutes to get our drinks. Then we tried ordering our dinners before he ran away again, but he said he could not take our order right now because "the kitchen was slammed" so we had to wait another 10 minutes before we could order. I've never heard of a restaurant not taking orders because the kitchen was backed up!! They wouldn't even accept an appetizer order to hold us over! We finally got our food, which was good, but the service was so awful that I don't think I'll be back. Also, just to note, the menu is very, very small so don't go with a picky eater. The options were 6 salads, 6 entrees, 8 burgers, and 10 sandwiches. That's it. read more

I was walking around Doylestown with my dog and I saw a lot of people eating at Penn Tap Room outside with their dogs so we decided to stop in. The wait staff and the patrons were so friendly. Our waitress even brought out a water bowl for my dog. I had Brooklyn Pumpkin Ale and it was one of the best pumpkin ales I've had! They only have a small menu with about two veggie options, but they were more than willing to accommodate me. I ordered a club sandwich which comes on seven grain bread yumm, with the meat on the side for my dog. The waitress immediately understood my order and it came out perfectly with the meat in a little bowl for my dog. They even make their own homemade chips but I opted for fries because I'm more of a fry person. All sandwiches come with a side of coleslaw and I ate my coleslaw with my fries (a weird thing I like to do) and it is one of the best French fry coleslaw combos I've had in awhile. I highly recommend this place, they are very dog and family friendly and very willing to accommodate. read more

Update! Still 1 star. This AWFUL experience continues. Instead of being approached by the "business" manager below and asked what happened since she was she not there- I was private messaged and threatened to take down my review. Not to mention comments below are a completely inaccurate and made up story. When I asked "blond" bartender to make right of situation which was an inflated bar bill by $100 ( I do apologize for calling her unattractive in my other review- although she was VERY nasty and not even willing to listen to my request) she was beyond rude, condescending, and unprofessional. Again, i was mostly drinking water so there is no blurred vision here. I was clearly taken advantage of and after investigating they do it to many. The lies, the business manger tells below is so that I take down my review. Try fixing the situation instead of acting how your female bartender acted that night - classless and rude. Female staff is deceitful, disrespectful, and threatening to customers and their "management" is worse so now we know how they are trained. Do not involve yourself or support such people. I was also told I wasn't welcome back. Don't most places want you to return to give you a "better" experience? It's ok - this place is an absolute filthy dump. This is a fun spot in summer with an outdoor area and great people watching. Unfortunately the food is really average - we would still go back as it has atmosphere. On the day we visited the staff service was REALLY slow and I think they were short staffed, it started to rain and they quickly assisted us to sit in the bar which was really cozy. read more

A beautiful day; the patio was bustling. Great space. Great beer. But, it IS a restaurant, and as a restaurant, this place falls waaaay short. The sandwiches and burgers were served with chewy house made chips and we ordered a side of [soggy] fries. What's really inspiring the two stars, however, was the kids' meal. Now, I don't expect much, but if I'm paying $9 for my kids' mac and cheese, it better have been made the same day. This was old and congealed, lava hot on the edges and ice cold in the middle. Kids wouldn't eat it. See, we don't get to go out to restaurants as a family all that much, and when we do, I just want it to be a good eating experience for them. It really doesn't take much. April 17, I decided to go to the Tap Room since the weather was so nice. They have a really nice outdoor space and not many places have Allagash on tap. I had not been here for several months and immediately noticed that the menu had changed. I ordered the large caesar salad with chicken. With the chicken this plate was $14. I was very disappointed with the portion size of the salad. Throughout the meal, I kept thinking...how much money would some extra romaine lettuce really cost the Tap Room. This was a real let down for me because in the past, I thought their salads were good...but this one...a real let down. Sorry Tap Room but there are way too many other choices in the area to be serving mediocre food. read more

Nice place all around, but it really shines on a beautiful day when you can enjoy the patio and people-watch. Good salads--- lots of healthy choices. Sometimes there is a special that just knocks your socks off, like a blackened salmon burger that was on the menu during last year's arts festival. even though I have only gotten salad both times I have been here I really enjoy the atmosphere. it's a nice place to grab a beer and a really good meal!! it's a little expensive for a broke college student but it's worth it! the salads really are great and the service is quick and good. no complaints!! read more

Go here frequently with friends and family. I have never been disappointed. On my most recent visit I had the most delicious fruit and nut salad. I choose to have Shrimp added to the salad to make it a main course. It is loaded with fresh fruit and greens with candied walnut. The dressing was a little citrusy, wonderful addition. On other occasions I have had their burger and must say I think it's the best burger in Doylestown. I have also tried many of there other dishes and have always found them to be great. The only reason I didn't give this restaurant a five star rating is because of a small issue I had trying to book a large group for lunch.( about 20 people) It worked its self out and we all had a great time. read more

Bartender was very rude , was more concerned with telling the other customers how terrible her life was then getting anyones drink order, at the end of the night gave me the correct bill but when she took my card to swipe it she charged me the wrong bill . The seating in the somewhat clumped restaurant are spectacular, even in the confined space. The waiters were patient and helpful, and the place itself created a "lively" atmosphere, even with a half dozen people on the top level, overlooking the heart of urban Doylestown. However, I must say the food and drink didn't meet my expectations. The drinks were stuffed with ice, taking away flavor, the entree of shrimp tacos I received were very messy and had little flavor(with burgers that were too varied in size), and their "dessert menu" consisted of one apple cheesecake that had a creamier bottom topped heavily with caramel-drizzle whipped cream. One dessert! The only successful thing about the meal was the corn chips to die for and flavor-bursting onion rings. It was a back-and-forth struggle of quality, and I believe this average restaurant can be a throwaway on a Tuesday night and you want some views and food. read more
