This place was absolutely awful! So you walk in and have no idea where you're supposed to stand. I'm looking for my friends and choose not to walk up the stairs (there is no one to greet me so I had no idea what the protocol was), so I walked around only to find the kitchen! When I ventured up the stairs I found my friends, whew. I wanted wine and their list seemed adequate, not great but I was sure I'd find something. The beer list was pathetic, I'm not even a beer drinker but the fact that there were beers that I recognized was not a good sign. My wine came in a glass with a lip (forbidden when drinking wine). The glass was so round I could barely finish drinking it without extending my neck all the way back. And the stem was so short I could barely hold the glass. I ordered mozzarella sticks, they were good, typical bar food, but good. I also had a crab cake, since when do you put capers in a crab cake? One side of the crab cake was burnt, that was the side they put down on the bun (not well hidden). It was dry and the capers had to be removed to even eat it for survival - eating for pleasure was out. The waiter was great, we were there for a birthday and when we received our dessert he recognized he birthday with singing, he even got the whole dining room to sing as well. Great job! The dessert was some peanut butter fudge thing, it was good as well. The prices were fair, but the set-up, food and atmosphere were all a big bore! I had lunch there last week. My friends think it's the best place for happy hour in Doylestown. My lunch was just ok. Cheese steak. Home made chips were not crisp the roll was tired . My guest had Chicken fingers and fries and the oil tasted old and the food had that old oil color. I really wanted to love this place but it fell way short. read more

Stumbled upon this place after a long afternoon of hiking. My boyfriend and I decided to drive into Doylestown (I've never been) and passed by Penn Taproom after I made us leave a very college-y sports bar a couple streets away. We went for lunch yesterday. We both got wraps and we got the hummus appetizer. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Food was brought out in a timely manor and the waitress was very nice. Penn Taproom has a fun outside and downstairs atmosphere, but the vibe upstairs (where we got seated) is definitely lacking. They didn't even have any music playing up there and the loud THUD that we heard every time the kitchen door opened downstairs was definitely annoying. However, they have a decent selection of craft beers and above average bar food so it's a-ok with us...we'll just make sure to sit outside or downstairs during our next visit. read more

Penn Taproom is nothing to write home about. The only thing it has going for it is the large outdoor seating area and the location. I go here often with my coworkers in the warmer months because it has one of the largest outdoor seating areas in town and our group can always get seated. Food and service are just okay. We stopped by this place within the first two weeks of it being open and, honestly, it wasn't all that great. The place has the potential to achieve great things because of the location. However, it seems as though they skimped on the overall beer selection (next to nothing local) and the menu is so-so. (Not surprising from brewpubs -- but from a spot that outsources all its beer?) Was in Doylestown on a Sunday afternoon with our dogs and saw they were one of the few (only?) establishments that allowed dogs on the patio, so we decided to give it a try. The placed looked good from the sidewalk and their expansive patio was inviting. Service was good, and they immediately offered some ice cold water for the dogs A+...it was a hot day and they loved that. It was mid/late afternoon, so we just split some appetizers, as it was too early for dinner and too hot for much food. We tried the boneless wings that came with choice of several delicious dipping sauces and some Cheesesteak eggrolls. The boneless wings were great and the fries very good, crispy and hot (Fresh). The eggrolls were good too, but maybe a tad greasier than others I've had. We would definitely return and frequent if we lived in Doylestown, especially being dog friendly. Went there at 9pm on a thursday being though there was no hostess to seat us for five minutes then finally sat. Waited another 25 mins just to be greeted. Being as though I am a waitress myself I was frustrated at this point. Then our order was taken and the waitress didnt know anything about what was on the menu. Put in quesadillas and they werent bad. After that because we were also starving at this point we waited about 40 mins for our food to come out. Now mind you my boyfriend is a chef he was so angry when he took a bite of his food that it was dried out and he sent it back. So at this point my meal was ruined. Mind you out waitress barely even came over and we were left with empty glasses the whole time. They are lucky we are decent people or we would of walked out without paying thats how upset we were. And, the manangers response which was short was "oh sorry they put tomato on it and we had to remake it." While the table behind us came 30 mins after us received their food. I have to admit that this place slipped by me. It's right on "Restaurant Row" in Doylestown but meshed in with 86 West and The Knight House. Glad a friend mentioned it because we had a great time! I was surprised to get immediate seating outside on a Friday night in the middle of happy hour. Nice beer and wine selection. I enjoyed my meal. Had the Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and the Turkey Burger. Service was friendly and timely. I was surprised it was a dog friendly patio, not bad as long as your dog doesn't yap a lot . We tried so hard to go there on this beautiful evening! We were met by a surely and obnoxious (older...short dark hair) hostess. To note, she stepped in front of the two other younger hostess and host. I asked for a table for two outside. She said, " There are two parties in front of you, we have NO idea how long the other parties will be." I said, "In your experience, approximately how long do you think the wait will be?" She (with a lot of attitude) said, "Like I said, there are two parties in front of you, no idea." So incredibly rude and obnoxious. You seriously need to have a discussion with this lady....bad for business. There are too many other options in Doylestown to be met with such rudeness. Nice little pub with outdoor seating and a diverse beer selection. The food is overall pretty good, but the sandwiches are especially tasty. The service is solid on some days, not so great other days. Overall, it's a nice spot for a lunch in the borough or drinks outside on the patio on a nice day. The one thing I could do with out, though, is the hipster bartender watching MSNBC and Al Gore Current TV. I have no desire to be subjected to someone else's politics when I'm out trying to decompress and get away from the day-to-day grind and BS. My wife and I were looking for a new place to try for dinner and decided to try this place. The atmosphere was fun and eclectic. The service was friendly and we did not have to wait long for our food. The main reason for giving a two star review was the food. We both ordered the East Coast Turkey Burger. The concept was great, the presentation was good, the burger, however, was made from a frozen patty. The menu did not claim it was a fresh turkey burger but I would have expected a freshly made turkey burger. They diner was still good but it could have been great. We may go back and try something else. I will adjust my review if other food is fresh. read more

This place oozes 3 stars. Great location and outdoor dining area. Food however is very average. The service definitely needs improvement. Good luck getting acknowledged once you arrive. There have been countless times I have had to simply seat myself upon arrival because there was no host at the podium. A couple of times, my party has wondered where our waiter went due to prolonged periods of time without checking up on us. Because the food and atmosphere is decent, I still have faith in this establishment, and will continue to frequent penn taproom. We like this place and eat here often. Beer selection is great and the typical bar grub is pretty good. They try to give the food a bit of a twist now and than...sometimes it is outstanding and sometimes it's okay. Generally it is very good food. The prices are typical for Doylestown and fairly reasonable. It is worth a try. Service can be spotty. Come when it's busy and it may take the food a little while, but what's the hurry. My husband and I decided to go to the Taproom in Doylestown, PA. I must say I was extremely disappointed with the service on May 2, 2018 after 8:00pm . We sat there for at least 20 minutes and asked someone on staff if anyone was going to take our order. His response was some one will be right over she's on the computer. We waited another 5 to 10 minutes and no one came by. I felt like we were invisible to the staff, waiters and the manager . As a result, my rating would be 000000 stars. Dining in Doylestown, Pennsylvania sure has a unique advantage over the rest of the region. The culture, the arts, the sophistication and of course the premium income level of its population are all contributing factors to this tiny town in Bucks County maintaining its position as one of the Northeast's premier day trip destinations for the inhabitance of New York City, New Jersey, Maryland and even parts of Virginia. As a person that's lived here all my life I've eaten in every pub and restaurant in town. Some places open and become real local hotspots others come and go with the wind. Recently, I've eaten at a newer place in town and I'm completely blown away. It's a small eatery called the Penn Taproom located smack dab in the center of town. This place literally has everything. Of course to a person that hasn't dined in this town one could construe the menu to be a bit pricey but for a couple or bunch of friends that has eaten in Doylestown before, they fall in line with the rest of the local eateries. The downstairs is a classic little bar. Spotless and cozy this has become the place to be that has put all other bar owners in town on alert, this is the new hot spot. If you are looking for more of a quaint atmosphere for a date or quiet evening with some close friends go upstairs. The dimmed lighting, soothing music and calm aura of this historical 200 year old building gives a classic atmosphere combined that will win your heart fast. I promise you, go there once with your friends or significant other and it will instantly become 'your place'. Service is another factor that makes or breaks a location. I have to admit, we've had such horrific service locally for so long it took time to understand that the wait staff and busboys were genuinely trying to give us a memorable experiences with incredibly friendly, absolutely non pretentious service and speedy delivery of piping hot, fresh and absolutely lip-smacking culinary delights. Look, I'm not a writer, I'm just a guy and when I see something good, I want to tell others about it.
