I sat at the bar for the first time and it was not a pleasant experience. Bartenders took forever to come over to take our orders. Very hard to get their attention. The female bartender was drinking on the job. There were people visibly drunk near us and speaking crudely. The female bartender was also speaking inappropriately. Both bartenders were constantly talking with their backs turned from customers. The overall service was poor. I've been coming to this restaurant and never had a bad experience until now. After an afternoon of drinking in Doylestown the group I was with wanted to grab lunch. We were seated upstairs so we could catch the Flyers game. The beer list was in a binder that had a bunch of corrections etc... it looked like a child updated it. I was surprise to see they did have Russian River Damnation in bottles and I did enjoy one. The standout was the wings. They were grilled and deep fried. They were so good i'm adding them to my best wings list. Our burgers were good but nothing to rave about. The laughable thing on their menu is the hot dog. Its $6.45 and is just a small hot dog on a large hoagie type roll. For some reason one of the guys in our group got one but he regretted it. I would have given the Penn Taproom 2 stars but the quality of the wings and the choice of a Russian River beer earned an extra start. This is truly a legendary restaurant. I must say the service I got there, ummm absolutely wonderful! The serving staff are the best in the business, especially the lovely young lady Taylor. Next up on the list let's talk about the food. Oh yes the food is marvelous. Big props to the kitchen staff working back there, I'm not sure who they are but they truly know their stuff when it comes to cooking, second to none. Now of course we can't talk about the people that make it all work, the manager/owner. Now they might be working behind the scenes but their love for the restaurant really makes it a great and fun place to go and eat. Albert and chadathan are two terrific gentlemen who dedicate all their time to making sure your time there is well worth it. I can't give enough credit to the support staff there making sure everything runs smoothly. I mean, come on, when it's a hot and busy day and all the servers are running around like crazy, you know u can count on the bussers to take care of u. One busser in particular I would like to give a little shout out to is a younging with the name nick. Well my, my this kid is on top of his stuff, u can really tell that he loves his job. Last but not least is the bar tenders. When your trying to let loose and get wild these bar tenders will be right there with you making sure your glass is always full. My wife and I stopped here on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. We were promptly seated upstairs in a cosy section of the restaurant.Jess was our server and she was prompt in taking our orders. We went with an order of a fish n chips and turkey burger where I think the fish they had was the haddock. I was impressed that the restaurant was willing to make a substitution and give us a turkey burger instead of a regular burger. Our orders came out reasonably quickly. I really enjoy food that is served piping hot and that was one of the things that stood out at the restaurant: the food was very hot (as it should be). I had the fish n' chips and I found the fish to be fresh and nicely fried. Not all was hunky dory though. The sauteed vegetables that my wife got seemed syrupy. Why would vegetables be sweet/ syrupy? Also, the up-charge for the vegetables at $3 (I think) seemed excessive. Those few things are what cause me to take off a star. One final word - I left my hat at the restaurant by mistake and I didn't realize it until I was back at my apartment. I reached out to the restaurant right then and they offered to hold it until later till I came back to retrieve it. The next weekend I was able to go the restaurant and pick up my hat. Nice looking place and we enjoyed our Penn Taproom martinis before our dinner. We were just getting something to eat before heading over to the County Theater. Very good burgers, totally enjoyable. We had the onion rings as an appetizer...those were a little greasy. We had to leave because of a biker reunion/party coming in. This is obviously not a reflection on establishment. This crowd was fine coming in but could see it was slowly getting rowdy (they tend to take one and think they they own the place - rude!) and didn't want to be a part of it. Where do I begin? Ordered Corona and after 20 minutes I received a Corona Light. The Ceviche tasted like it was marinaded in bottled, store bought lime juice, and the fish was definitely not fresh. Walking into this place feels like you're walking into someones home. The bar itself isn't that large (seats maybe 16 people?). We first walked in around 11:30 on a Friday to a mixed crowd. Not long after the older folks left (I guess I have a habit of scaring away the older folks...). By midnight the place was still over half-full. Plenty of TVs playing college football and other sports. Music was playing but off in the distance so it wasn't too loud to keep you from having conversations. One bartender couldn't keep up with the bar (I said it was small, not tiny). So they should really have two people serving on weekend nights, but the wait wasn't terrible. Hoegaarden on draft always wins at least one star in my book and at $5, maybe even two. read more

I can only comment on PTR as far as drinks and atmosphere go, as I've never eaten there. I decided to go into PTR because I was looking for a quick place to get drinks one night before heading out for dinner with family. I sat at the bar, and the staff was very friendly. Since that night, I've been back a few times, each with the same results. Bar staff has been consistantly friendly and attentive each and every time I've been there. I've always sat at the bar, so I can't comment on seating, food, and servers. I will eventually try the food, as it looks great when it comes out. Try PTR. read more

Went yesterday (Saturday) for a party of 5 including 2 toddlers. Food was very good. I had their Taproom burger with onion rings. My daughter had a very large and delicious grilled hotdog. Draft list was ok, Moms is definitely better. However the service was horrible. Waited for close to 5 minutes for a hostess to come to the stand to seat us. Had a younger guy who was our waiter upstairs. He disappeared for long stretches and took a long time to take our order. And did I mention we had 2 toddlers? Plus the table was wobbly and e only offered to fix towards the end of our meal. You can do much better in Doylestown. read more

Pretty cool, local spot. I came with some friends on a Sat night at the recommendation of one of them living in the area. It is a little small but luckily there is a second floor for seating. This place got busy fast so it was good we had a reservation. I ordered their potato soup and friend calamari (both very good). I also had a glass of Riesling that was nice. Service was good, too. Good food and good prices, nice out door seating available if you avoid the sun. I went twice in one week while I was back in the area visiting my mom. The first time we went for dinner and I ordered the Black and Bleu wrap. It was delicious. We sat outside by the front and watched everyone stroll by. Very nice. The second time we went for lunch and it wasnt as good. Again we sat outside and about 10 minutes after being seated the sun started beating down on us. The guy who sat us at assured us that the sun didn't hit that area until much later in the day, but oh well. This time I ordered the crab gazpacho and the salmon burger. The gazpacho was good, and the salmon burger would have been much better if had any type of dressing on it. It only had lettuce tomato and onion. We had asked the waitress what came on the sandwich when we ordered (it was a lunch special and not on the menu) and she said there was a dressing. Not sure who didn't know the recipe, either her or the cook. I would rate my first visit as 4 stars, my second as 3 stars. Overall I have to average it out as 3 stars. I would definitely go back again, but it wasn't anything spectacular. read more

Great spot for a craft beer. With thirteen beers on tap, I managed to select a double white Long Trail that is my new favorite. My friend ordered a Belgian style beer that was advertised on the menu as10 oz that came in a glass clearly marked as 25cl (ie. 8.4 oz). He enjoyed the beer but felt a little cheated. About the food- We both had salads that sounded and looked quite delicious but had some problems in execution and cannot be recommended at this point. The shrimp crab salad featured beautiful vegetables and greens but came topped with underseasoned and overcooked shrimp muddled together with crab in a flavorless dressing. My friends Cobb salad had beautiful ingredients but suffered similar execution issues including chicken that was overcooked and underseasoned. The service was wonderful and attentive and the outdoor patio seating was lovely. But, despite an interesting Pub menu, I cannot recommend the food until the kitchen improves. read more

My fiance and I decided to just take a drive and ended in Doylestown. After walking around for a bit, we found at the Taproom sitting on their patio. The street was quiet and it wasn't too hot in the shade. Most of the tables were full which was a good sign. For being a taproom the beer list was pretty small. My fiance ordered a beer and I got a glass of wine. We ordered the hummas as an appetizer and I ordered the guacamole burger, sans bun and he ordered the club sandwich. Not sure if it was the kitchen's fault like the server had us believe but our courses came out pretty close together. We should have known something was up when it took 20 minutes to get hummas. The food was good but the service could use some tweaking- maybe its because they pull their tips, who knows. read more

Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and had a really great experience! It's a super tiny place but cozy with a pretty decent selection of drafts on tap! The service was really friendly- Gina was our bartender that day and she was awesome with suggesting food and just being personable! For food we ordered the fried pickles which were good! Also the calamari which i really liked- they do it a little differently than breading and frying it like everywhere else, i can't remember what she said it was battered in but it was tasty and so was the sauce that came with it! Amazing Fall day to dine outside and capture that last bit of warmth! We have passed Penn Taproom a few times and have been wanting to try. It looks inviting from the street. Cute outside seating, hostess stand outside, tables almost full, big garage type window opens the bar which over looks the front seating area, and the food looks good from a far. So today was the day for our lunch! Yay! We had a nice table facing the sidewalk...perfect for people watching. Just what we visioned. Waiter came over and took our order. That was the last time we saw him till the very end. Not a big deal, sweet hostess saw we needed drinks and offered to refill...said she was helping the waiter. I had the salmon burger which was a little dry but the side sauce made it all good and tasty! It came with chips...I think they are made in house. Hubby had the steak sandwich...it looked good but he said it had no taste. He was disappointed. The food was plentiful. We both took half our sandwiches home. I have 4 stars because the place is very cute...but we actually never went inside the restaurant! Lol! I thought the waiter was horrible but the Hostess made up for his bad service. Always enjoy their selection of beer and apps. Hospitality is never lacking. Since last review, I've eaten dinners, light fare etc. Always a nice mix and unique specialty on the menu. Sometimes it could be duck or a veal stew and other times it's the fried pickles. Music scene on Sunday evenings is Jazz et al and that cast of characters is top notch. So we just went to the Penn tap room to have drinks and dinner. We were seated at around 8 PM and left there for about 20 to 25 minutes before anybody came by. The service is horrible. I did take a moment to point that out to a person who appeared to be the manager and he just looked befuddled. It's my opinion go there yourself and see what you see. Perhaps it was an off night for them but from my perspective the manager should always be very observant of his clients. I will tell you this, there were many waitstaff walking left and right to and fro and are very vicinity and only one who dropped motorbike actually made eye contact. Good luck. Excellent excellent. We went in without reservation before 6. This was good as the crowds had not yet arrived. We were waited on by the effervescent Kate. She knew the menu, the drinks, and was pleasant and available. She was also the bartender! Which I didn't discover til later, yet she still managed to be great. The food. We started with a meatless nachos appetizer. It was great! Super cheesy, with olives hot peppers, sour cream, lettuce tomato etc. For dinner I had the cheeseburger with fiat cheese on a gluten free bun. The bun was really good, A surprise that I will order again! My date had the Dallas, with grilled shrimp. She said it was delicious and I believe her! It was really noisy by the time we finished dinner. We were in the bar area and could not hear one another over the crowd. That ok, a good bar attracts people and people on bars talk, loudly. There is nothing to make this place stand out over any other, and there are better options in easy walking distance, so I can't really see any reason to go here. The food is passable at best, and the lack of quality ingredients is very noticeable. Service is spotty, and while the staff are nice, they are not particularly attentive. I really wanted this to be a regular local spot to drink, eat, and hang out, but after several visits, I just can't recommend it. Nah, I've been there twice, once in the summer and now in the winter. The beer taps are dirty and sometimes the beer is flat. The 'by the glass' wine is turning to vinegar. And the service stinks in terms of cleaning tables prior to sitting down. We had disgusting wipe marks that just pushed the last patron's leftovers around.
