I am not one to write reviews but after what I just experienced I feel like it's worth sharing. This morning I went into Penn's Table after church with my 2 daughters and my father, a career marine who served in Vietnam and was shot twice protecting our freedoms. We were sat and immediately greeted by the owner who thanked my dad for his service and told him "We're going to take care of you today." Extremely nice and respectful. We had our meal and the server was lovely and she performed her duties exceptionally well. When the bill came it was $53. I called the server over and informed her that the manager said he was going to do something for my father. She came back and said that his meal would be taken care of. When we received the bill there was only $1.88 discounted off the bill. I called her back over and let her know that the meal wasn't taken off. Then this guy manager comes over saying that the owner left for the day and that the standard is 15% off the persons meal. $1.88....This is what my father's service meant to this entitled brat whose only sense of service is playing call of duty with his friends. I said this is what taking 2 bullets for your country gets you? and his response was "it's our policy". Luckily my girls were with me so I paid and left without causing a scene. So here's my policy. We are both members of the Marine Corps League of Chester County, he's a member of the VA, and my business is part of the Chester County Chamber of Commerce. I will be informing EVERYONE I know on how we were treated today and what your "policies" are pertaining to heroes and their service to this country. I was embarrassed and appalled at the response of this "manager". Next time leave the $1.88 on the bill and tell us to just never come back. It would be a lot less insulting. Charmingly inviting but the food s just awfully bad. I ordered the waffle which was pre-cooked and then heated in a microwave before serving. Almost immediately, the waffle turned rubbery and stale. When I asked the server, she freely admitted that it wasn't freshly made and attributed the reason to have a faster delivery to beat the crowds. There a much better breakfast options. read more

This used to be one of my fave go to breakfast joints. Friendly staff and great breakfast. Haven't been in awhile due to job change and was excited when errands took me back to WC. Waitresses still friendly, but breakfast was horrible-inedible. When the waitress stopped by and asked me how everything was, I told her that it was not good, very disappointing. It was pretty evident bc I hardly touched the food. The eggs were watery, the potatoes under cooked (as in still hard, raw). Her response was, "I'm sorry". -- at least with a smile. That was it. I wish I had thought to take a pic of my plate so Yelpers could see how bad this was. When I went to pay. I was asked again. "How was everything?" Again, I told her. I don't like to make a scene in restaurants, but honestly I didn't expect to pay for my meal. My iced was fine and I was ok to pay for it. The cashiers response was "I'm sorry, hopefully you'll have a better experience next time". Sorry, Penn's Table, you don't really care about your customer. This is my (and my fiance's) favorite spot in West Chester for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Never had a meal than wasn't awesome and the service is always quick & friendly. It is cash only, but definitely worth a quick trip to the ATM. I highly recommend the B.E.L.T sandwich from the breakfast menu and the egg salad. Best egg salad I've ever had. ALWAYS a delicious and fast breakfast! The blonde hostess is on top of her game and the table turnover time means never waiting more than 15/20 minutes for a table. Staff is friendly and quick to refill your coffee. My favorite thing to order is the cheesesteak omelet which has sautéed onions and goopy cheese, so good! The only negatives I can think of: 1.) I eat 3 or 4 eggs every day for breakfast and I like them over real easy with no cheese or other crap on top, so I want those eggs to actually taste good. I guess I'm an egg snob, I can tell the difference between a factory egg and those raised with a little more care. These didn't have much flavor, but they I will say they were cooked just right. Penn's needs better eggs. The coffee is very good, not burnt like Starbucks (which I like) but very tasty easy drinking coffee. Franks hot sauce at every seat, always a good sign. Sausage is delicious. This is a classic local stop for breakfast. How could it be better, you ask? Please turn off Regis and Kathy Lee, put on the news or something of intellectual value. Better yet, turn off the tube altogether and play some good music. Then you can charge $3 a cup for coffee like the starbucks down the street. read more

Went up to wcu for a weekend and stopped here for breakfast Saturday morning. Crowded but no wait. Service was kind of slow but given... I got a breakfast sandwhich which was very good and my boyfriend got French toast which was excellent. My only gripe is that it was $3 for a side of avocado! $3. We ordered two sandwiches at lunchtime: a grilled chicken on a Kaiser and a grilled chicken with vegetables in a Wrap. Neither one of them with anything to write home about. The grilled chicken on a Kaiser was dry and came with nothing to moisten it, we had to ask for mayonnaise on the side. A grilled chicken wrap had an odd flavor, what little flavor there was, and was just blah. French fries were decidedly generic. Nothing to bring us back to this eatery again. read more

Don't get fooled by the good reviews, the food is bad any time of day. I read every review, the good ones are impossible to believe. Wawa's sizzlis and any McDonalds breakfast puts Penn's Table to shame. I told my daughter that they burn eggs, she didn't listen. So she took some friends there and they burned her omelette, but they added a bonus..chemical after taste. Mediocrity in everything they serve.hot dog, burger, fries, turkey sandwich...etc.... Penns Table needs new ownership... Clenliness??? The whole place is sticky, like a toddler's high chair. . I had the 2 eggs (over medium) with home fries, sausage and toast also coffee. The small size coffee reminded me of Jakes Bar and how he maximize his profits by reducing the size of his beer mugs and increasing his overall price! Really? Do you have to skimp on the coffee? It wasn't that good anyway! I asked for eggs over medium and what I got was toasted eggs with white still runny! The eggs were more toasted than my toast! The potatoes were barely enough to feed a bird. . . I didn't eat a crumb and spoke to the manager who didn't charge and I happily left the premises and be assured I won't be returning. If you make a good breakfast they will come, if you make a great breakfast they will line up outside in the rain, well they are lined up outside in the rain here. Pancakes as fluffy and light as clouds, omlets bigger than your head, potatoes with a nice crispy edge and cooks who know what Over Medium means, no runney white no solid yellow. My girlfriends and I love to meet at Penns Table for Sunday brunch. Sometimes it's really crowded, especially if there is a special event at the University. But otherwise, we can always get a table. It doesn't pretend to be anything it's not: a simple, rustic diner in a quaint but bustling town. We have always enjoyed the food. We have never experienced the disappointment other Yelpers seem to have had. Collectively we have ordered pancackes, French toast, omelets, and grilled cheese. Yummy! This is my favorite place in West Chester for breakfast basics. This is not the kind of place you'd go to for anything too inventive, but that's fine, because Penn's Table is great at the standards. Their omelets are fluffy and they have a nice variety of fillings. They have great home fries (which a lot of restaurants manage to screw up); they aren't overcooked or too greasy, and the dusting of paprika is a nice touch. The coffee has just the right amount of strength so that you can drink several cups while you're hanging out with your friends or family. It's nice to eat outside when you can, but the atmosphere is good inside too. It's clean, has pleasant decor and doesn't reek of bacon grease! In general, the staff have been polite and prompt. Penn's table is a good local spot. We enjoy going here for breakfast on the weekends. The food is basic cafe fair with nothing overly creative, but good. After hearing a lot about this place from the locals (apparently the Clintons have visited here more than once) we decided to check out the weekend all-day breakfast. From the outside it looks like a "sit down restaurant" but inside it's a vintage-style diner with a menu heavily slanted towards breakfast and a few sandwiches and soups. We got eggs, pancakes and toast. Everything was nicely cooked, except maybe the toast was a little dark, but not burnt. Pancakes here are HUGE - don't order more than 2 unless you're starving or maybe aren't going to eat anything else. Server was pleasant and efficient. You can probably get a similar type breakfast at many diners in the area but this one has the quaint old-fashioned college town atmosphere. I just wish it stayed open a bit later than 3 pm, at least on the weekends when sometimes I'm not ready to go out before 2 or 2:30. read more

It was almost as good as Mrs. Mike's (also in West Chester) and they don't charge by ingredient, so it was very well priced if you pile on the mushrooms, ham, bacon, salsa, vegetables and cheeses, if you order the make-your-own.
