I have been here twice, and I have tried two popular items on the menu. I tried the Pot of Gold and I tried their chili verde nachos. I have also tried their heavenly hot cakes and their french toast. I'll be honest, I didn't think the food was THAT good. I think you get a lot for what you pay, but for some reason, my tastebuds weren't that impressed. On both check-ins, we got the Penny Puffs, which are balls of scone dough deep fried and then covered with cinnamon sugar. These were decent, but not mind blowing. However, I do have to say the service is impeccable here. They are always willing to help and explain anything on the menu. I haven't gotten the chance to try their lunch menu. The lunch side of things consists of mostly sandwiches, so I would stick with their breakfast. I also commend their waiting list system. You give them your phone number and they text and call you whenever you are going to be seated. This is packed like crazy every single time I've gone here, so know that it is a very popular establishment in the Utah area. I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes though, so that's a thumbs up in my book. read more

Saw the wonderful reviews on Yelp and had to give this place a try. Came for breakfast and wasn't disappointed. Be aware, there will probably be a wait of about 10-15 minutes before you get seated. It's worth it though. Our server recommended the Pot o' Gold and to have it smothered half in the sausage gravy and the other half in the salsa verde sauce. I enjoyed it although I felt like there wasn't the best ratio of all the toppings. Seemed like it was 70% potato 30% fixings but maybe that's how it is supposed to be? Either way, it was a gut shot as I walked away full. I should have eaten only half and taken the rest home but it was so tasty! While there, we noticed if you signed up on their email list, you could get a free slice of pie. I chose the Coconut Cashew White Chocolate Chip and it was divine! I have no idea how this place gets such good reviews. I ordered the smothered breakfast burrito and asked them to leave the meat out of it and just add the strips of bacon on the side. When they brought it out, they literally added a pile of crumbles of bacon on the side. When I told her I asked them to leave the meat out and only do strips of bacon on the side she told me that would be an up charge to add bacon to the order. We came here for brunch. The only reason this is a four star review and not a five is because it took an hour and a half to get seated. The host was very apologetic though. Otherwise, the food was delicious. I got the pot of gold and could hardly eat half of it. It was amazing. My wife got the eggs benedict and also loved it. You gotta get the basics right. And if you're gonna label a menu item "heavenly," it better be. Thankfully, Penny Ann's is right on the money on both counts. When it comes to the hot cakes, I'm a believer. They're seriously the best I've ever had, even without being topped by one of several extra options. My short stack for two, for example, was slathered with real whipped cream, bananas, and a caramel drizzle and I made it through exactly half of it before putting the rest in a to-go box to have later. I was also a huge fan of their fried potato coins, or whatever they call them. I'm not a big potato person and grow pretty quickly tired of hashbrowns and such, so this was a welcome fresh take. The second-runner-up star of the show, though, has to be the ultimate biscuits and gravy. Take homemade buttermilk biscuits, then slather them in fried eggs, white sausage gravy, mushrooms, potatoes, onions, and cheese. It's borderline obscene and so delicious. Otherwise, it's pretty standard breakfast fare. I didn't try anything else and can't speak to its quality, but there was a nice variety of things to eat - omelettes, waffles, French toast, chicken fried steak, burgers, and more. The place is popular, even on a random Wednesday morning, but there wasn't a wait and the place was clean. Service was a bit scattered, so it could lose a star there, but the food is all fives. I have heard of Penny Ann's for years and have never gone.....well, that all changed this morning and it did not disappoint. When. I walked in, I was greeted into a super cute diner atmosphere. I got the Pot of Gold with the Heavenly Hot cakes and thanks to a Yelp check in coupon, I got free Penny Puffs. I can't wait to go back for lunch. The only thing that is a little disappointing is, is they close at 230pm. Extremely busy as with any of their locations but for good reason the breakfast here is always amazing and the coffee doesn't stop pouring. Still wish they provided fresh milk or half 'n half instead of the garbage creamers but nevertheless it's a favorite for breakfast. We had the big breakfast, corned beef omelette and the smothered burrito. We checked in with yelp (of course) and got a free order of Penny puffs. Tip: Eat the puffs while they're hot they hold up that well once they're cold. The place gets packed so use the waitlist on yelp for reservations.
