The food and service were excellent on a Wednesday at 11:30AM. What made this wonderful was the relaxed and very clean ambiance as well as the service. I had the poached eggs on avocado toast with goat cheese crumbles. I highly recommend it. It was amazing. The creamy goat cheese crumbles complemented the texture of meal. The greens provided a satisfying crunch, while the grain bread was satisfying as it soaked the warm yolk of the perfectly poached eggs. The coffee was also very good. I had it with almond milk and no sugar. I could taste the notes of coffee and chocolate. I was told it was a Hawaii coffee bean. Very unique. I also had the coconut pineapple cream soda refresher. If you're in Daybreak and haven't tried Moena Cafe, you're missing out. This spot has quickly become one of my favorite places to grab breakfast and a latte. Their lattes are consistently great! The food is just as good. Their take on loco moco is comforting, flavorful, and done really well. And the pancakes are incredibly light, fluffy, and easily some of the best I've had. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the service is always friendly. TL;DR - mid-tier food that costs and arm and a leg to make a meal out of with outrageous prices for sides (hardly ANY meal comes w sides). Service is hit or miss. Unfortunately when you live in a developing area, you're left with few options for restaurants, this being one of the only options for breakfast. First off there isn't a lot of seating so if you are trying to come at a regular meal time, good luck. Secondly, the service is SO hit or miss. We recently went for Valentine's Day and our waitress seriously couldn't care less about us. Others that arrived after us had their orders taken first, we eventually had to ask the GM to get our waitress to take our order. She didn't bother to introduce herself and acted fed up with us and her job the entire time. We waited a long time for the food. And had to be willing to really pay up for full meals as hardly any of the dishes come with sides. We're talking 1 piece of french toast for $17...food is fine, nothing to write home about. Some of my favorites include the short rib loco moco, pineapple sausage, kalua pig, fried rice and the banana chantilly pancakes. Their menu is actually a lot bigger than I thought. The servers are always so nice when we are there. The ambiance is fancy and quiet. Pinks, gold and white colors. Some of the menu items are on the pricey side but where else can you get a loco moco with fried rice or fresh fish for breakfast? My husband and I love to try new spots and saw this restaurant as one of the newer brunch places, so we decided to stop by. Wait wasn't too bad, it was about 30 minutes. However they don't really have a waiting lobby to sit inside so it would be crowded by the entrance if you came on a rainy day like we did. The hostess sat us comfortably since we had our baby as well. We ordered the loco moco, and I had the kalua pig Benedict. At first I did ask for the fried rice, but the Benedict came with potatoes instead because the waiter mistakenly heard potatoes. Which is okay because those potatoes were so good! They complement the dish probably better than the fried rice would. The kalua pork was delicious and not salty at all as most times I would have kalua pork it would be salty. We had the ham and pineapple sausage on the side which were good too! I rated 4 stars because of the waiters mistake and she did constantly forget some things we asked which we constantly had to remind her. Despite that though she was great and mistakes happen. Aloha! Welcome to Downtown Daybreak-the first restaurant to open in the area. It's an upscale Hawaiian cafe-but not the typical food you might be expecting. We were pleasantly surprised with this place and will continually get better as this area is developed! We walked in early on a Tuesday morning and there were a handful of people there. First, this place is stunning. They put the work in and did it right from the tables, chairs, window coverings, lighting and even the restroom. We sat down and were quickly met by the waitress. We enjoyed a yummy meal this morning. But, ultimately we have some concerns. The waitresses and entire staff were extremely welcoming, very kind, and were working very hard. But the manager (an older gentleman) was disappointing. Not to my family personally , but to the entire staff. We was making snarky comments, slamming menus on tables and expecting one of the waitresses to distribute them. He was speaking to all of them in a degrading tone. There was a specific young lady that I believe he was being disrespected the most, she did not wait my table but was working hard, doing everything with a smile, and overall a great employee. We noticed the circumstance and wanted to tip her in addition to our waitress (who was also phenomenal), so I waited to speak with her. In the meantime, this "manager" was telling me personally a costumer that the waitresses were "pretending to be managers" and that he's "so sorry for my wait" while rolling his eyes and blaming it on everyone but himself, well that alone proved my point. He's inappropriate and unprofessional. This business is ran well and not due to his help, it is because the entire staff was working hard to put their feelings aside and deliver great service. If I could give the food, wait staff, and everything else but management a rating it would be 5 stars. I want attention to this issue so ultimately that is why the rating is so low. I do not want to make anyone feel bad. But, in this case scenario I truly believe he needs better training and to be an encouraging and supportive manager. The staff are really friendly and seem to love their jobs. Food is a little pricey for those with ihop expectations. BUT again, worth it. The individual pancakes?! HUGE! I have eaten at Moena Cafe (Hawaii Kai) countless times. At one moment I prob ate there 3-4x a week. We came on a Sunday afternoon and luckily there were only about 6 tables occupied. The service was a bit on the slower end, it took a while before the waitress came and took our order, as well as ringing up our bill. However, the food was worth it! We were sat almost right behind the cafe area and the staff were hanging out around that area so it was kinda awkward eating while the staff were all right there cause it felt like they were hovering over us so maybe they should move the table further away from the back bar, because directly behind us was the kiosk, so it was like we were in the back bar area. I have now been to Moena Cafe three times and I am very happy this place exists. Awesome vibes! Breakfast has been great each time. The pancakes are huge and taste excellent. The fried rice is a fun and flavorful side, although it tasted a little stale on my last visit, which seemed like a one off issue. Dinner was also very good. The short rib plate was a true standout and easily a 10/10. I did not know I needed it in my life, but now I cannot imagine not ordering it.
