My girlfriends came to SLC for a quick visit. We knew we wanted brunch so we headed to Over the Counter Cafe for our morning meal. We came at the right time which was around 10:20. There was a good size crowd already but we were able to find a table for us. We got coffee started while we breezed over the menu. For breakfast today I snagged the #2 with a side of country gravy for my home fries. Man it was perfect! I got all my favorite things. Home fries, eggs and bacon. Everything was cooked nicely! The bacon was crispy. The home fries had crunchy pieces and soft pieces mixed together. I love country gravy on my potatoes and this country gravy was so good! My eggs were jammy in the middle. Everything was so fabulous! I had a great meal here with my friends. A core memory for us. Coffee was hot. Staff was really nice. The food was killer. But the time we left at 11:30 people were piled up outside waiting for a table. I'm happy I got to check this joint out. One of the best breakfasts in town!

Okay diner food that's hit or miss. We've been times when it was better. This time was meh and service was slow to boot. Highlight was seeing local vendors goods for sale at the counter.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The old style water glasses, white porcelain coffee cups with a smooth thick lip. The logo is mostly gone from use and washing ... comforting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]White porcelain plates clang as they come steaming out of the hot dishwasher.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Full tables of laughter and lively conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I swear the biggest bottle of Tabasco I have ever seen but my favorite Tapatio is right there too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Yup! The classic diner. Where you'd go with dad, grandpa, and uncle for breakfast before the deer hunt.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Remember when grandma sliced the breakfast potatoes by hand and threw them on the griddle as she cooked breakfast? Some of them got a little brown but yummy/crunchy? And the scrambled eggs were just right, not rubbery? The perfect bacon, not over done but cooked with the right chew/crisp texture? [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of seats at the counter so since I was solo I watched the poached egg/pancake/french toast/sausage station pump out breakfast goodness.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean, but not fancy. Just exactly what you expect from an old school diner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff attentive, it's obviously frequented by regulars ... they don't even have to look at the menu! And staff treats everyone like family. It's been a long time but glad to enjoy OTC again!

One of the BEST OG Breakfast places in the SLC Valley!! Been coming here since I was a child, and EVERY time I come back to visit I have multiple friends that want to meet here for breakfast! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything is made right there in front of you, the service is always quick, and the ambiance is like your visiting your grandmas kitchen![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] High recommend for breakfast

Busy little cafe with high energy and waitresses that love to chat. The layout of the place is tight but we were able to manage fitting 6 people on one booth. The burritos were a great way to start the day after the festivities that transpired the night before. -1 for avocadoes on not in \ No mimosas

Over The Counter Cafe is a quaint little diner open for breakfast and lunch. We stopped in for lunch today and there was a bit of a wait for a table but we were able to add ourselves to the electronic tablet for the waitlist and fortunately we were seated in about 10 minutes. We sat at the counter which gives you a great view of the grill and the amazing kitchen staff just working expeditiously to fill the orders for all the hungry diners. I ordered the B.E.S.T. from the breakfast menu. This is a grilled sandwich with egg, bacon, spinach, tomato, pesto and cheddar cheese. YUM! Served with a side of "homies" which are home fries and of course some fry sauce. The sandwich was messy and gooey but that's what made it so delicious. It was served on sourdough bread and I left satisfied. We met Amy the owner when paying our check. She was very friendly and showed such gratitude to everyone that was there dining. It showed that she truly cared to make sure folks were satisfied with their dining experience at Over The Counter Cafe.

I haven't been here for years and don't remember it being this busy where there was a long wait and limited parking. I guess when you serve a really good breakfast...word gets around. There was one seat at the counter when I got there that I was happy to sit at, however the waitress was attentive to the tables more than the counter customers. I was lucky enough to sit next to a guy that comes in every day so he actually helped me place my order and even brought me my coffee. This place is busy and LOUD. You're not going to get "cracker jack" service here, but you will get a decent breakfast at a decent price, you'll just have to have patience for a server to come and take your order and don't expect a smile they are way too busy for that

Crazy fast. Crazy tasty. Crazy nice. Crazy dinner. Cheap breakfast for everyone. Solid good food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nothing fancy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Like a good home cooked breakfast.

This cute little cafe is actually quite large, don't be fooled by the storefront, there's even an upstairs. The staff are super friendly and nice, got our large group seated right away and everyone knew the menus well. All of the breakfast options were large, delicious, and everything I'd expect from a yummy breakfast joint, but for my fancy healthy breakfast lovers, the options are a bit more limited. It's deliciously greasy predictable breakfast here, large portions too! The one disappointment was my daughter's gravy for her side of biscuits came cold. Flavor was good, but definitely would have been better hot. Lots of options for breakfast, bread and eggs, good hash, bacon or sausage and large pancakes! I would go again for the large portions and value, as well as the nostalgic hearty breakfast. It's like a Dennys or IHOP but small town feel and less corporate for sure.

Home fries, avocado slices with added ketchup and Tabasco! Yum!!

Well, I must have loved it since I went twice!! First day tried the BLT as well as a chocolate croissant which is to seriously die for, it is a must. Kiaya (lord I hope that is right) was my server and she was excellent. I had a Pellegrino Blood Orange soda along with my lunch and loved the salad dressing as well! The sandwich was with 1/2 salad and 1/2 potatoes, yum yum. The second time, I had Connor (he will remember Sheldon) who served me. He was awesome. I tried out a blueberry mimosa, an iced mocha and a water (I had been walking a lot and was tired and thirsty, don't judge). Then I just wanted that dang BLT again! I also ordered another almond chocolate croissant (I know, I know, should have tried something else). Well I did get a cookie too! My lunch was taking a little long, so they also brought out a couple of pastry items to try as well, so yum yum! The Chocolate Macaroon was also so wonderful and I cannot say enough about this quaint spot. It did fill up during lunch on the Thursday, so get there early or late! PROS: Main street, easy access from transportation/offices Great selection of homemade pastries Nice choices for drinks (obviously, I tried a few) Super quaint bistro style inside Outside seating under shade and a tree Attentive and exceptional employees (CONNOR) CONS: Parking may be an issue, although some on-street parking available DON'T THINK, JUST GO! Lots of choices.

Thankfully, no reservation was needed but it was still really busy. We were able to get seating next to the window; however I do wish the spacing between tables were a little bit bigger, as it feels like everyone's in each other's conversations and forces you to be friends with your neighbors. Not ideal when you're on a date night or trying to be intimate with someone. For drinks, we were interested in trying something before ordering a bottle or a glass. I didn't realize that for a wine sampling like that, it was $3 bucks... We got just a glass, and I went for a custom cocktail. ON the bill, they call it a "bar roulette," and that ran me $20 bucks... yesh, but ok!!! Dinner choices for us were the Clam Chowder & Wagyu Steak. The claim chowder presentation was definitely unexpected as it didn't resemble a Soup as expected. The changing of menus so I was good and I was good to see a couple things still there, but also familiar with some of the new stuff that I saw being delivered did leave me scratching my head.

Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and exactly the right amount of present (if you know what I mean). I enjoyed the maitake on rice with cashew cream and it was delicious. The salty mushrooms were mellowed by the chewy rice. The cashew cream gave a nice variation in texture. I didn't leave a morsel behind. The harissa carrots were nice as well. They are cooked soft and have a moderate spice level that is again contrasted by the mild labneh and tahini base. I had to save the rolls with herb better for last. Oh. My. God. These were divine. I'm a sucker for bread of any kind but these are what the Hawaiian dinner rolls wish they could be. They are perfectly pillowy and the herb butter just elevates them. Do not miss these for more "sophisticated" fare. If I lived here, I would definitely come back. Everything was considered and well-executed. Bravo

Like many people, we were excited to dine at a restaurant led by a chef who has beaten Bobby Flay. We arrived for our 8:15 p.m. reservation and were seated promptly. Unfortunately, from that point on, the service became increasingly confusing. Our server seemed flustered from the beginning and even commented that she wanted to make sure everything was right for our experience. When ordering drinks, I asked for a root beer and was told they had one. A few minutes later I was informed they actually didn't and was given a Dr Pepper instead. No big deal--I didn't want to make an issue of it. The bigger problems started with the food service. There were three of us. Two ordered the filet, and one ordered the chicken. The first entrées brought to our table weren't ours at all and had to be taken away. When our actual meals arrived, they were still mixed up. I was served the chicken despite ordering the filet. The same thing happened with dessert. We ordered two Baked Alaskas and one Lemon Cake. Again, the desserts were delivered to the wrong people. These weren't major issues individually, but when they happen repeatedly throughout one meal, it takes away from what should have been an outstanding dining experience. Now for the positive... The kitchen absolutely delivered. The filet was cooked perfectly. The chicken was outstanding. Presentation was beautiful. The Baked Alaska was one of the best I've had. The food easily earns five stars. Unfortunately, the front-of-house experience did not. To make matters worse, after I finished the Dr Pepper that I hadn't originally ordered, my glass sat empty for roughly 45 minutes. No refill was offered, and I eventually had to ask for another beverage while dessert was being served. One final observation... The receipt included an optional surcharge for the back-of-house staff. I understand it could be removed upon request, but I don't believe guests should be placed in the position of deciding how restaurant employees are compensated. Pay your team well, price the menu accordingly, and let guests simply enjoy their meal. Urban Hill has one of the most talented kitchens I've experienced in quite some time. If the service can reach the same level as the food, this restaurant would easily deserve five stars.

I saw a comment about the restaurant being dark, but the lighting seems great. Anything much brighter would probably upset my eyes, especially early in the morning (as that's when we typically go). Someone also mentioned the wait is long. The restaurant isn't huge, and if you go at a time when everyone else is also going, usually any time after 9, then of course it'll be busy. Go early and it'll be faster, but either way, the wait is completely worth it. Thank you, to the Our Kitchen Cafe family for being so kind to me and my family.
