I got 2 scoops of peanut butter ice cream topped with a scoop of vanilla. The vanilla had some very small ice crystals in it but was otherwise fine. I really love their peanut butter ice cream. It's creamy with the peanut butter flavor but not overwhelming. The cone does seem to be a little small for all that ice cream, so don't dilly-dally too much eating it in warm weather. Since some other parlors near me have closed, Scoups has become by default the closest ice cream spot to me that makes their own hard ice cream. This is not a bad thing. It's also not bad that it's not too far away from Wolf Road, and it becomes a convenient spot for dessert after dinner nearby.

But I did finally stop by for some of the famous desserts/ ice cream. Service was great. The young man at the service window made a number of very helpful suggestions, especially after I mentioned that I've begun to show a bit of dairy sensitivity if I have ice cream late at night. So I tried the nondairy Dole pineapple whip in a cup. It was delicious. My friend had a double scoop of chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone. That was delicious, too. I tried some. There were many customers. Since Guptill's is widely considered a Capital Region institution, I'm slightly embarrassed that I haven't visited before. The ice cream stand is large and clean. The staff is young and courteous. I can't explain why I haven't been to the rink yet since I skate pretty well. Perhaps I've just been busy. Still, this was a good start. Hopefully, I will get around to doing some roller skating in the coming weeks. It might be a good way to beat the heat since Guptill's is air conditioned during the summer.

I got cups to go, and I like how they package them for you, with lids and a convenient bag with their logo for carrying them. But their ice cream also remains an occasional treat and not a frequent thing. Everyone has their own price point for ice cream, and getting dishes or cones of ice cream for a family would add up, compared to buying a half-gallon of some brand at a grocery store. Your mileage can and will vary on this. When I've traveled around the country, there have been particular ice cream stores/local chains at which I don't mind paying a bit more for a high quality ice cream. I tried two scoops ($7.50) combining Blueberry Crumble with Salted Caramel Ooey Gooey Cake. All three were very good with the salted caramel our favorite and blueberry crumble a close second. There was also a display case filled with what looked like chocolate candies or treats. I couldn't see a price anywhere. Some of the labels were, dark or milk chocolate graham crackers; milk chocolate turtles; milk chocolate Oreos; key lime; gooey brownie; cherry bomb; and peanut butter. By the time we finished eating our ice cream at one of the tables inside, a long line of customers had developed. Kudos for having spoons strong enough to withstand the very hard texture of their ice cream.
