Cappuccino Explosion (l) & Rum Raison.

With so many cars at the ice cream stand less than a mile west on the same road, I expected Frank's to be similarly busy. Fortunately, it was not since it does not have as large a parking area. We were on a mission, in search of Rum Raisin flavor. Frank's carries a decently large selection of Perry's ice cream flavors and a few flavors from Gillette Handmade. FYI, Gillette Creamer is actually Gillette Division of GlacierPoint Enterprises, a family owned and operated food distribution company covering most of eastern New York. It distributes many different brands of ice cream, in addition to Perry's and their house brand, and related dairy products. With only two service windows in the front of their building housing an Italian restaurant in back, service was friendly and thankfully not overly busy. With about a half-dozen people ahead of us, we spent out 10 minutes in line studying the flavors and trying to find the small sign displaying the serving sizes and prices. Our small dishes of ice cream were $5.40 each including tax. Serving portion was average, if not slightly below average. I had the Perry's Rum Raisin, and my wife had the Gillette Handmade Cappuccino Explosion. Neither of us was overly excited upon tasting our choices. The raisins in my ice cream were where all the flavor was. If you didn't get a spoonful with a raisin the ice cream itself had less flavor than an average vanilla. The Cappuccino Explosion had no noticeable coffee flavor, and the "explosion" must have been the pieces of chocolate bars mixed in.

Frank's Ice Cream has the best grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. It was melty and the bacon was perfectly crunchy and not skimpy! Of course the ice cream was great. I had pistachio. A small was pretty big but I didn't mind. A nice little place tucked in between Colonie's hustle and bustle, it's a great place to stop for lunch! They have outdoor seating and a restaurant around back. I've eaten here many times over the years and always the same. Nice friendly service and good comfort food! It was a nice stop on a family day Saturday outing.

Home made lasagna and comes with delicious bread.

The food was so good. You can't fake his Italian food. Truly home made. The staff is supper friendly. It's a great spot for then hot summer day or the cold nights you wanna get out of the house for some warm food.

I don't go to Frank's often because my husband loves Scoups. He's a city boy who thinks it's cool to see cows while eating... That said, I really need to come here more often. They serve Perry's ice cream which is sentimental because I grew up eating Perry's. There are a few places in the Albany area that make homemade ice cream but they don't have all the cool flavors that Perry's offers. I was pleasantly surprised to have the toasted coconut which was shredded coconut covered in chocolate and tasted like eating an almond joy. The portion sizes are also a little smaller than other places. I normally order a kid's but order a small which is about 2.5 scoops. I'm not sure the location has much going for it. Its tiny and on a busy street, so it doesn't have much ambience. None the less there are some cute rides for little kids. The service is fast and friendly. They're also open year round if you're anything like my grandfather who likes to eat ice cream in the middle of Winter. They do offer some fast food options and Italian fare but I just come here for the ice cream.

Garlic bread, comes with the chicken parm dinner.

Surprisingly great food at an ice cream stand - has indoor dining room and is open all year. Italian specialties are especially good!

The entire party was there momentarily and had to ask for our food order to be taken after 30 min- watching them, they had all staff making drinks but they said only one person was bartender. Simple drinks 3 mimosas and 3 bloody Mary's still a few mixed up(spicy, no olive, lots of olives). We all ordered risotto breakfast items. It took another half hour to get our meals we had to ask for the Sriracha drizzle which was described on the menu. Tea, breakfast bowl and the cheeseburger, risotto were excellent. The timing was off some people did not receive their dishes for a while so we had to start eating. We inform the waste staff we had a show to get to and Schenectady and still had to ask for the check. Bathrooms were clean ambience was pleasant. If I were to guess I would say the kitchen was not prepped and ready to go. Luckily, we got to our 1pm show but not much time to spare. So if you're not in a hurry and not too picky, I would definitely recommend their breakfast, the unique offerings of comfort, risotto bowls. I would prefer my egg to not be well done on top not sure what their protocol is, but we weren't asked.

First, your Brunch menu and food are excellent, when we finally got our food - after roughly an hour of waiting - I was instantly reminded of why Dove and Deer is great - bold flavors, excellent preparation, gorgeous plates all in a city that desperately needs it. Second, I really felt bad for the 3 people responsible for running an entire restaurant on a Sunday (two waiters and one person in the kitchen). They did their absolute best, were so kind and apologetic, but obviously completely stressed out and frazzled. Tables got up and left after waiting for someone to get back to them - and we almost did too. It's unfair to restaurant staff to put the burden of running an entire place on them. I get if someone called off and you're short staffed 1 or 2 people, but did everyone call off? Besides 3 people? Come on. You have a real opportunity to be a go to brunch destination, my advice is to staff appropriately and give it a real go or risk customers not getting to experience the greatness that is your food - and taking their dollars to someplace far more mediocre. The only reason this isn't a 2 star or 1 star review is because of how hard your staff tried, and how good your food is (when it finally shows up).

As I waited for the hostess she was clearly overwhelmed and couldn't eek out a smile to any of the people she greeted. In the lively restaurant, a few tables of girls-night out, birthday dinners, couples both young & old, bar seating with the World Cup on TV. Our server was very pleasant. The food was good, by Albany standards, heavy on the butter, salt and cream. It wasn't bad but for me they could pull back on the richness and let the herbs/mushrooms/fish/etc shine through. 2 out of the 3 us intentionally only ate half our portions, planning to eat the rest "tomorrow" and told the server we wanted to box them togo. She offered to do that for us, while we were happily chatting, sipping the rest of our wine. When the boxes didn't reappear, the server apologized that someone threw the boxes away. It was disappointing, especially when we paid $25-28 dollars for our plates of pasta. Based on the overworked hostess and server, management needs to adjust their staffing to insure a better customer experience. When they toss out leftovers, not just a single bite, but huge plate of food, it would seem appropriate to provide a "peace offering" perhaps put a small dessert togo or certificate for a free appetizer on a future visit. If I was local I'd probably return.
