I stayed at the hotel attached to this diner which I thought was kind of strange to check in at the diner for my room. It was great, after checking in and getting myself situated I came back down to the diner to have a late dinner and shake. The shake was great, a tall full glass and another tin container full of it. Was a great value and product. Almost couldn't eat all my food due to the size of the shake. It's a nice addition to the hotel. I've stayed twice now and plan on again in the future. Stopped here on a whim during our cross country road trip. We started on the East coast and we were headed to the west coast. I think this was one of our first real places to eat (gas stations, fast food, and granola bars don't count). The service here was super friendly. The waitstaff chatted with us and even warned us of some nasty weather that was heading our way. The food was tasty and we really needed it. It was a nice homey feeling. Every once in a while you get the unexpected. The staff at this Penny's is always great but this evening we had an exceptional meal. Bryon M we as our cook and server. Rarely do you go out to eat and find a meal crafted with care. Especially at a greasy spoon. This man not only was an excellent host, his cooking was on another level. How someone can take an average menu and turn it into a culinary experience is beyond me, but between the tenderness and moisture of a plain old chicken breast this was a meal fit for a high end dining experience,not a diner. I don't know how Penny's is able to hire this kind of talent but wow, what a meal, and what a surprise! read more

I stumbled upon an original 50s style diner. Locally owned, not some big conglomerate. Open 24 hours even. I'm of the older generation and this diner brought back wonderful memories. The food was exactly as these old diners would be prepared and served as if it was half a century ago. Had an enjoyable conversation with the cook as my meal was prepared. We stopped in starving and with low expectations. We've eaten here before because it's the only place open after 10 pm during a Sunday or week day. When we walked in we were greeted happily by the cook , Marion. We took our seats and within a few minutes he came by offered us menus and took our drink order. I was thinking my gosh he's cooking and hostessing There we're probably 5 tables he was helping I asked him is he running the whole operation and he smiled and said yes ! We ordered two breakfasts and I had the burger. Omg. I figured we will be waiting for awhile as he was cooking for many tables. He got to work making pancakes waffles bacon eggs. I love how you can sit near /against the low partition between the kitchen and dinning / watch the whole meal prepared. Well he came back pretty quickly, 10 -12 minutes after ordering with our plates of steaming hot food. Marion is passionate about his cooking and bringing a great dinning experience to his customers. I was asking about the green chili and Marion offered us samples. Holy moly was it good!! Next time we are Cheyenne we are going to order a few different plates including the chili. It was so good. I do wish the owners would update the interior with newer fixtures Booths are worn / and hire a bus person to take care of clearing off tables. We were there close to midnight so only 4 tables were occupied but dishes had to be left for Marion to clear so I can only imagine what it would be like during the dinner hour. Still, Marion is a talented cook, and efficient with an amazing attitude and personality making his customers feel like they are royalty. Oh the burger I ordered was delish!! The meat was cooked perfectly and the bun was like biting into a freshly baked speciality melt in your mouth bread. It was fantastic ! I am so happy we stopped by. This is a quaint small diner designed like you see in the movies with the silver train looking construction with a few booths and bar stools in the front. I visited twice this week around 5 am MST. The food is subpar but I can't blame the cook as the waitress is the hostess, waitress and cook. It took 15 minutes to get her from behind the counter just to take my order and the cashier served me coffee after that. First visit I got a 3 egg omelet wanted NO green peppers, I ended up picking out tons of them. Second visit I got a 2 egg omelet and the toast was well burned beyond being edible. The management would do well to hire more help so Jacqueline (I think) won't have to perform 3 roles to serve customers. Also the silverware can make a difference in a restaurant experience; they use very cheap and thin silverware that made it feel like a camping experience... Been stationed here for about 2.5 years and hadn't tried Penny's yet, a couple buddies from base wanted to try it out so we gave it a shot. I walked in with a Trump shirt on, guy looks at me and says "we're full up". Not what the wait time is, not to give em a few minutes, not that there was any kind of wait for more people, just "were full up". We said ok, and took our business elsewhere. Walk in can't even get a greeting or nothing sit down and wait 15 mins not single sole comes over to take order or even give menu all works sat a counter while cook was making other people food. Another lady came in and she looked like she was high and Super lost to the world. Onto the food. The food was actually pretty good. We both would give it a 4/5. Not AMAZING, but good. I got a western burger. Which, I think was supposed to have BBQ sauce on it... But it didn't taste like BBQ. I ended up putting ketchup on it. The meat was good, onion rings on it was good, bread was good, and fries were good. My boyfriend got pancakes and bacon. He enjoyed them. We both got milkshakes that were really good! They were so thick we had to eat them with a spoon! And they give you the extras :-) I got chocolate with peanut butter and he got plain chocolate. There were chunks of peanut butter! Personally, for me, that's stupendous! It's a part of a hotel right near it, so when you park you will feel like you're parking at the hotel. But it's not bad. We didn't have trouble finding a spot. What we did find odd was that to get a room for the hotel you had to go through the restaurant :-/ It was odd. It's a two star hotel that doesn't have good ratings at all. And it was $130 a night! If you want to stay in Cheyenne get an AirB&B. I found some for $50 in the area. Overall it wasn't horrible. I think our experience would have been better had the service been nicer. Now that restaurants are opening up again with restrictions I was ready to go back here but there was something I was concerned with and I sent them a message on Facebook messenger about my concern. I explained I was concerned about the waitresses going out to smoke by the side entrance which I have no problem with but when they came back in they didn't wash there hands. I noticed on messenger that my posts were being seen but they were not responding to my concerns , so I wrote that if it was not important enough for them to address my concerns then they didn't care and I said I would just find somewhere else to go. I was just visiting Cheyenne when we saw this cute diner and decided to stop in for a bite to eat. Well, we stopped in, sat down and waited. There was a waitress sitting during what I asume was her break just staring at us. The cook (I assume) was busy talking it up with the only other patrons in the establishment. We got tired of being stared at (like, we didn't belong) and decided to leave after about 5 min of being completely ignored. I said it's your first night how do you know what they've done in the past.. no response, blank look.. they were out of just about everything and then could not figure out how to run a credit card. top 2 worst service in my life! The waitress was so tired she couldn't stop yawning! When I asked her if she could not yawn while serving us, she made excuses as to why she was so tired! She works 2 jobs, I've worked 3 jobs before!!!! No excuse, and ffs cover your mouth if you HAVE to yawn at a table, (not advisable) especially when dealing with food. She yawned 4 times total. The convenience of this diner is that it is 24 hrs. They let you pick where you want to sit upon entering. Very 50s vibe for this diner. Had great music to listen to while you wait for your homemade food. I had the ranch breakfast which consisted of to die for chicken fried steak with a creamy white gravy,hashbrowns,wheat toast and two eggs cooked to your liking. Hashbrowns didn't have much flavor, but they're potatoes, so that's not a big deal. They were crispy and that's all that matters. Eggs cooked nicely, husband's french toast was satisfying. Service was excellent. Not sure if it was because the staff just started their shift or what, but our waitress was friendly and chatty with her coworkers. Seemed like they enjoy working together and at the diner, which speaks volumes of the place, I think. Lots of stuff on the walls, counter seating, overall lots of charm. Good prices, usual diner menu items, feels like a real diner. I would pick this place over Denny's any day (and I love Denny's!). I normally love this diner I have never had an issue with the staff. It's not the cleanest place but I've eaten food in my horses stall before so it didn't bug me too much. My fiancé and I went out to eat after my birthday celebration. We got there at 0300 (3am) service was good as usual. Their milkshake maker was down which from reading some of the other reviews I'm guessing they just didn't want to make any. I got the green chili burger and it was great. Two hours later tho it didn't taste good coming up. I got horridly sick. The sickness lasted for 2 hrs straight. I know it wasn't the alcohol I consumed because my fiancé got ill as well. What we are thinking is the green chili was probably left out for hours. We won't be going back to this place. read more
