Went here with my dad, the place was empty when we arrived. Originally ordered a Reuben sandwich, but they were mysteriously out. It took close to an hour to get an overcooked flavorless patty melt on burnt toast. They still had a bunch of outdated and asinine COVID rules in place like 6 feet between tables, despite most of Nebraska getting rid of those restrictions months ago. Our drinks got refilled by who I presume was an employee that was done with his shift and not our waitress who was either cleaning or absent most of the time. My dad's french dip didn't look anything like a french dip you would typically order, it was like a chopped up overcooked steak on top of some bread. He also got side of burnt tater tots. I really don't see how this place is in business, almost seemed like a front for criminal activity of some kind. read more

A huge night behind me and a buddy and somehow some way i'm wearing a womans short shorts (really long night). First thing I hear when I walk in is "i'm judging you hardcore" and this is coming from a girl with a botched up hair cut thats dyed green. Immediately as we get seated (which took 10 minutes with nobody in there) she rudely asked me to get out of the booth and proceeded to SMASH a fruit fly against the window and thats 1 of what seemed to be a dozen across the window. This said green haired woman with presumably father issues decided to tell us about how she doesn't eat anymore so she can't tell us how the food is (which oddly made me feel uncomfortable). Keep in mind we got to the joint at like 12:30... It was 1 by this time, TO SIT DOWN and listen to her issues. Fast forward what feels like a year. We finally get our food, and when I say we I meant just me. She only brought out my food and left my buddy in the mud for like 10 minutes. So I waited for him and decided I wanted to ranch while we waited for his food. Now when I tell you I believe they went to the source itself to get this ranch I mean it. It took almost 15 minutes to get a simple cup of ranch, and im a big fan of ranch so this made me very angry especially because by the time it came I could've gone to my house in BENNINGTON and made the same meal. Maybe done some chores and come back, heck started a family maybe. Continue through the process, we get our checks and of course I don't tip her but I leave a piece of advice, "the days will get better for you" and she laughed at it. I genuinely meant it, this woman is SCREAMING for help. If it were me I would tear this "diner" down and make a 7/11 because the meth heads would be more productive. Stay away from this place. We have disregarded the bad reviews since there has been mention of new management- the last 2 times we have had great service - even though they work alone . The staff has been courteous and have greeted us right away . Tonight - we were the only guest in the restaurant. They asked us to seat ourselves and they would be right over . They took a call on their phone , and never came back out . 20 minutes later they were FaceTiming on their phone . Yelled at us to leave because we asked for service . Wow! read more

Never go here at night, part of my food was cold, and the butter on my toast was chunky on part of it. It smelt like if someone blew cigarette smoke in my face, also one of the staff had it's vape out, so no wonder why it smelt so bad! One more thing, half of their equipment is either broken or they don't know how to use it. read more

Haven't eaten here in almost a year so I figured we would try it again because maybe they made some changes. BAD IDEA... I ordered the skillet and they attempted to bring me hash browns with an egg on the side after waiting 25 minutes. There were only 4 tables being occupied for crying out loud. My son had the pancakes but the syrup must have been an extra charge because they didn't bring us any. My wife had the deluxe biscuits and gravy and came to the determination we should have just eaten cereal at home. I had to ask twice for my English muffin that I didn't eat because it looked to have been microwaved instead of toasted. I didn't get a refill on my soda and the staff really didn't seem to care at all. No apologies, spoke with an undertone...I mean come on man, grow a pair. I have never not left a tip after eating at an establishment but with horrible service and the cook not getting the orders right we left a $0.00 tip. On a side note...we will not be back. I'm hoping ownership reads this and either closed Penny's or makes the necessary changes. You have to be willing to pay for good help. read more

Tried this place about a year ago and it was just ok. They apparently made some changes, because it was quite a change for the better from last time. I think it has always been open 24hrs and when on the road late, it makes for a great change of pace from fast food. The service was WAY better this time and the food was good last time, but this time it was a great meal - one of thier "daily" specials. I will stop again and next time think ahead about the malt that was better than I can get at any drive thru! Only problem was driving further with that "full" feeling. read more

The food was mediocre at best. The server and cook spent most of their time discussing smoking and killing themselves by smoking. Our order came out in parts, with our child's food being last and very late. (We had finished 1/2 our meal, and only for fear it would be cold if we waited, ended up giving 1/2 our meal to our child since he had waited so long.) The restaurant smelled like sewage, which was easy to explain when you see the vents run barely above the AC units on top of the building. Because the Village Inn was almost an hour wait we decided go to Pennys. We should did the hour wait. There was only 1 waitress which wasnt bad at first as there werent a lot of people. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy which were awful. The gravy is a white gelatinous floury mess with no taste and the sausage patty had a weird aftertaste. The whole meal was cold. I ordered the sunrise skillet which was semi-good. Semi, because my eggs were cold and so was my pancake. The butter wouldnt even melt. I tried getting the waitress' attention but she was busy with all the people that eventually came in. I went up to the counter to get another cup of coffee and my pancake warmed up. Pick your own table, (try to find a clean one) and prepare to hear "I will be with you in a minute) for at least 15 minutes. Ask for water as she walks back and forth and maybe you will get some. Same for a cup of coffee. When you do finally make your order, ask for a glass of water, and be prepared to continue to ask. Hopefully you will get your food sometime within the hour. I don't know if it was the "free" breakfast coupons from Oak Tree Inn next door, or if ALL customers get treated this way, but I have never had such terrible service in a restaurant. Orders were taken from tables in no order what so ever. A table of 18 was there when we sat, 2 other couples came in after us, and all of us finally got our orders in before the large table, who had to complain that they needed to order SOON or leave. Took forever to get our food, and I never did get my side of biscuit gravy that I ordered and reminded her of when it was not served. We were never offered a coffee refill, I finally had to go to the "bar" of the diner and ask for refills. The lady there was very slowly wrapping silverware while waiting on the 5 truckers who were seated there and eating. She did not help the waitress with the rest of the diner. Food was average, bacon a bit soft, hash browns undercooked. If the waitress needs tips for her wage, she is cheating herself out of an income. I noticed that when serving food, she had to take a few plates to different tables and ask "is this yours". If you want the free breakfast offered from the hotel, and can wile away your morning, by all means, use your coupon, otherwise save the frustration and go down the road to village Inn. read more

This is the worst eating establishment I have ever been in. My family of six, 4 adults and 2 children stopped to eat here Saturday evening May 30th, 2015. When we walked in there was only one customer at the counter that was eating and another table of adults and children ( think either staying at the hotel on this same property or friends of the waitress. We ordered our meals. We then noticed the walls and picture frames were dirty. My wife tried to wipe the dirt/film off the frame as she was sitting next to it about eye level. It wouldn't wipe off. This was grease/dirt that would have to be scrapped off. Our drinks came quickly but that was the end of the good service. When I wanted a refill of coffee I had to go to the counter to get it. There was only one waitress on duty. After about 30 minutes my wife and I finally got our pancakes that were supposed to be served with the rest of our meal. We waited and waited. After about 55 minutes from the time we came in we finally started to get some meals. My two grand children 8 & 3 ate my pancakes (cold) as they were very hunger and their meals had not come yet. Finally, the meals came except my son-in-laws French toast. When they came there was no butter for then and I had to go to the counter and get some from the waitress. By this time only one other family had come into the Diner. We waited for just over an hour for our meals. They were being delivered one at a time. This seem to us that the single cook on duty could only make one meal at a time. We will never go back to this place and will recommend everyone go else where when in Fremont, NE. We told the clerk at the motel we were staying at and he felt bad as he didn't know we were going there as he would have made better suggestions to us. He also said Penney's Diner has a bad reputation for very poor and very slow service. Needless to say we will never go back or stop and another Penney's Diner. read more
