Ordered a quick lunch, I got the 10 wings for about $15 dollars and some change. A little over priced in my opinion but the wings were amazing! We were a table of 6. We placed our order and it took 40 minutes for our food to arrive. One order was wrong and the server wanted to make it correct. Other orders were correct but cold fries and shrimp on two orders. The remake of the wrong order took 30 minutes and the lettuce was warm and wilted on the salad. The server charged for the shrimp skewers on the salad . The slowness of the service and the temp of the food was met with a shrug. We won't go back! read more

Review left December 2024. Well earned 5-star review. Jimbo's Diner. This restaurant is located in/next-to La Vista Keno. It does not smell of smoke. If you're into keno, you can play at your dining table. There are over twenty 4-tops, a dozen booths, and several party tables. Music is modern and sublime. You hear it, but it never overwhelms. You'll soon get numb to the intermittent "Keno calling". It does sound tempting to play when you hear that "the last game had a two thousand dollar winner". I have never played. Service is excellent at Jimbo's Diner. Kurt W. waited on me tonight and, like his colleagues have done previously, did a great job. I started with a BIG bowl of delicious beef barley soup. I recommend the soup, but perhaps the smaller cup-size next time. Daily specials include prime rib on Thursday nights. That is what brought me here originally. Sub-$30 prime rib! I'm now coming back to try other food. Today is a Monday and it is Mexican night at Jimbo's Diner. Taco baskets and enchilada dinners are on sale. None of the specials cost more than $10 tonight. Expansive menu. Something for everybody. Unless it's prime rib night, I'm guessing it's hard to exceed a $25 tab unless you're drinking alcohol. Food comes out pretty quick. I was about 1/3 full after my huge bowl of soup, so I finished with an inexpensive, tasty BLT sandwich with cottage cheese. I couldn't finish everything... An endless soda, soup, and a BLT sandwich came to $18.43 (December 2024). Next time I will skip the soup. Or have soup and salad. A bowl of soup and a sandwich with a side is too much food. I want to try the daily specials. The prime rib is excellent. Plenty of off street parking. A healthy meal for a decent price. I highly recommend Jimbo's Diner. read more

We came for lunch right when it opened at 11:00 on a Tuesday. Our server, Leah was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had the Jimbo cheeseburger, my companion had the BLT with onion rings. The onion rings could have had a little more flavor, but it was great that they weren't overly greasy and didn't fall apart. The dining room was clean and well lit. No more BOGO burgers on Weds. Fine. But they took away all the really good burgers and now they're just regular diner burger. Closer Keno place still has great burgers on the menu at a Weds night special. Chips and queso is described as, "Jack cheese, tomatoes, red onion and cilantro simmered to perfection and served with house made chips." I guess the tomatoes, red onion green Chili's and cilantro are the ingredients of rotel because that's all this tasted like, canned cheese and rotel. Should've read between the lines. And the house they make the chips is a Tostitos factory. Spaghetti was actually pretty delish. Waitress told me they were packaged frozen meatballs but I wouldn't have known otherwise. Menu says it comes with 4 but i got three which was still plenty. Spaghetti sauce is house made and on the sweeter side. Garlic toast with it was good. They seem to be going a much cheaper route and cutting corners, sadly, like a lot of places. Servers here are all so sweet and attentive. Never ever have had a problem with service here! If you aren't satisfied with your meal, don't take it out on them. They didn't make the changes I'm sure. read more

First of all I am giving Jimbos two stars because when we came in we were greeted quickly and very pleasantly by the staff. But after taking the order things went down just as quickly. I got the wrong order to begin with and the eggs are far from scrabbled. I had to wait while being hungry so my meal was finished before the server got over to the table to tell him I am missing part of the order. He looked me dead in the eye and asked if I still wanted it......................YEAH I still want it!! So had to finish that while my lunch company had to wait on me. We went on a Friday night for their prime rib special. Upon walking into the lounge area a sign was posted stating that food orders were taking 45 minutes. Kudos to them for being honest. We decided to wait it out. For as packed as they were our waitress was right on top of us. The food actually only took about 30 minutes to come out. Huge piece of steak, baked potato and spaghetti. The prime rib was cooked well, and although the 2" strip on the end of the steak was tender, the middle was quite chewy. The baked potato was fine, and the spaghetti was just a standard very bland side. Really wasn't expecting a lot more I suppose. For the price and quantity of food I'd give it 3 plus stars, but for the overall taste I'm going to have to stick with a 2. read more

Just had dinner here with hubby and Dad. There is plenty of room in there and appears clean. They have the typical diner menu and you can play Keno at the same time! I had the club sandwich with fries and they were both very good. They were generous with the fries as well. Dad just had a salad and soup. He said had he known the ham and bean soup was that good, he would have gotten a bigger dish! The hubs had the 4 piece fried chicken with mashed potatoes. He got one scoop of potatoes and thought they should have given more. He said the chicken was okay but he is pretty picky. I enjoyed it and hope the hubs will want to go again. What a wonderful place to get some of the best food! I ordered their Shrimp Basket, hoping for some big tasty fried shrimp with good thick fries. Jimbo's did not disappoint! The basket was filled with six large butterflied shrimp and HOME MADE fries, freshly hand cut. It was very filling and had to actually take some of the shrimp home. The person I went with ordered their half pound burger and she substituted their homemade onion rings for an extra $2 added to the order. That is truly not a bad extra price for a menu substitution. The burger was big, well seasoned and the onion rings were out of this world, as delicious as Jim & Jennie's onion rings (which are the best in the City, in my humble opinion.) Their fried chicken or chicken tenders are homemade and are next on my list to try at Jimbo's, which made my mouth water. This is definitely going to be one of my favorite go-to restaurants. Diners are diners and I think it's rare to find a diner that reaaaaaaally stands apart from the rest as an epic diner. Unfortunately, Jimbo didn't get my Jimbone aroused if you know what I mean. I have a co-worker that is a DIE HARD fan of Jimbo's diner and has been telling me to go here for years! Today was that day and it's not the best food I've ever had in the history of the world and it's not bad either. As an appetizer, my friend ordered fried chicken liver and it wasn't bad! It was a little greasy, but huge chucks of chicky insides not overpowered by the batter. The menu is pretty typical of a diner: breakfast foods, steaks, sandwiches, burgers, and even a small mexi selection if you're feeling a little AIYAIYAIYAI... you know. I did like that the fountain pop drinks (coke products) were 93 cents with free refills! Even for a diner that's pretty good! I ended up getting a Hambaagu.... what's a hambaagu you ask?!? Well, in Japan there are hambaagu restaurants and they basically serve large sized hamburger patties over a bed of rice with various toppings like shredded daikon, japanese curry, fried egg, etc. Anyway, it's bomb and they had something called Hamburger Steak which is exactly what a hambaagu is except with white people sides like mashed potatoes and corn. I asked them to make it as raw as possible because I like my meat ethio style yo!!! I thought it was pretty decent and I loved all the grilled onions on top. The gravy is very flavorful and the corn... well not much you can do to make corn magical other than add unicorn tears to it. The other people at the table got a club sandwich, steak sandwich, pork tenderloin, roast beef plate, and fried fish sandwich. I asked everyone's opinion and I got an average star rating of three, which is what I would give this place too. I didn't have any, but apparently the fries were a little greasy too. Of course, I asked about dessert because I didn't see it on the menu and our waitress Jimbette told us that usually some old lady comes by and gives them pies to sell, but they were only down to one slice... ummmmmmmmmmm.................... No dessert = Rude!!!! Just sayin... All in all, this is your typical diner. Cheap @ss food, keno in the background, father time and his friends sitting around a table chillin, nice but frank service, daily specials, you know... the usssss. The food seems decent but don't expect your tongue to be doing a happy dance in yo' mouf mmmkay! This place was difficult for me to find. It's sign (as far as I know) isn't facing 84th street so I think they are missing out on some easy business. Jimbo's Diner shares a building with swizzle stix. Together the two businesses function as a large keno hall. This can be annoying when you're eating. Keno numbers are routinely called out over a large speaker. Onto the good stuff, this place looks like you'd expect a diner to took. Many customers eat at the counter, the tables and chairs are low end, and there's an outdated tile floor. To be clear, I love all of that. In my mind, that's how a diner should look and it's part of the charm. I ordered the chicken fried steak with two eggs and hashrowns. My food was excellent. Everything was cooked to perfection, the chicken fried steak was smothered in gravy and it was full of flavor. I'd give this place 5 stars, but the constant keno updates drive me crazy. We had not been here in a while. The new social distancing requirements make going out to eat, a lot less enjoyable. We actually called our order in while sitting in their parking lot. It was simple as we know most of the menu items we like to eat there. The person on the phone was very friendly. We did not have to wait any longer than if we were sitting inside. Our order was correct, even though we asked for a couple alterations. It was very hot and fresh. They brought the food to our card window. We were thanked several times for choosing them to order food from. We understand how hard this has been for them. We went home to eat.
