We recently went to Osteria Kayla in Fremont to celebrate an 80th birthday, and overall it was a really nice evening. There were five of us, and they had no problem accommodating our group, which made things easy right from the start. I ordered the prime rib sandwich special, and it was solid--tender meat, good flavor, and paired well with the bun and cheese. The fries were nicely seasoned and hit the spot. We also had a few cocktails, and those were well done too, which helped set a relaxed, celebratory tone for the night. One thing that stood out was the birthday touch--they brought out ice cream for the birthday guest without us even asking. That kind of gesture goes a long way and made the night feel a little more special. The atmosphere is comfortable and works well whether you're just grabbing dinner or celebrating something. The only downside was the service being a bit slow at times. That said, we weren't in a hurry, so it didn't really take away from the experience. Overall, I'd say it's a solid spot in Fremont. Third and final time. I've been on the fence with a "negative" review because I know how desperately we need small businesses. I will say that I find it very difficult to find the positives at this time with the establishment. Firstly, the same waitress is there and she is miserable. She acts as if you're an inconvenience for being in the establishment. The food quality is low, and they have messed up the order 2/3 times. I do applaud the host/server who corrected a mistake that the kitchen noticed on a takeaway order. Some improvements I recommend- non styrofoam containers. They melt from hot food and spill. Retrain staff on service etiquette, and work on delivering a well rounded meal that holds up to the prices. read more

Soooo....we hadn't planned on eating here this week but all of our other favorites downtown were closed. I've put off coming here because we were huge fans of the restaurant that was here previously and were sad when it closed. It was a Tuesday so the restaurant wasn't overly busy. We were greeted and seated right away. Since it wasn't busy it was quiet and relaxing but a little warm which is to be expected in the old buildings downtown. Our server brought waters right away and was very friendly. We ordered the Burrata for an appetizer which was really good. We each got the ribeye for dinner and they were both cooked and seasoned great. The sides of potatoes is where we were disappointed. My husband got the garlic mashed potatoes which tasted amazing but were room temperature. I got the loaded baked potato which also tasted great but you could tell it had been pre cooked (which I get) but it was hard and not warm. We mentioned our concerns to our server and he was very apologetic and offered to get us free dessert but honestly we were so full that we declined the offer. Actually there was not many positives I can expound on. The waitress was very friendly, but the service was painfully ssssllllooowwww! The ribeye was just ok, and the lobster tail was the absolute worst thing I have ever eaten at a restaurant. It was as dry as a charcoal briquette, tough, and rubbery. Just gross. Amazing!!! Only did appetizers for our first time here, but all three were amazing! Did the fried shrimp, the burrata, and the arancini. LOVE All three! Everything was fresh and bursting with flavor! The burrata was wrapped in mozzarella and laid in a bed of smoked tomatoes with a balsamic glaze. Had their house Bloody Mary and then the strawberry espresso martini. Both equally delicious. We came in with a group of four. The atmosphere is decent, except they should close the front blinds to shield people from the setting sun. Service was good and friendly. Two of our group liked the scallop dishes. Cooked to perfection and very flavorful. My steak was overcooked, and a poor piece of meat. Sent it back and the second steak was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, the quality of meat was very poor again. It was a ribeye, that was gristly with no flavor. The asparagus had little flavor as well. So if you want scallops, check them out. Steaks? Wishing I would have read other reviews before coming here. We stopped in on a whim, my in-laws were fans of the restaurant that was here prior to Kayla's. We were here at 7pm on a Wednesday with just a few other parties, and the staff could not be bothered. Requesting anything took a long time to have the chance to do so, and the music was turned off for most of our dinner. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the cooks did a great job! All food came out quickly, hot and as requested, but for a nice dinner out, service has got to improve. read more

It's been a while since I've been wanting to try this place. We came with a group, the food was good. I had the shrimp Alfredo and I can't believe I ate the whole thing! The Cesar salads that came with entree were fresh and not too over dressed. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal as well. Someone had a steak and it looked a little thin and gray...I wonder if the surface were it was grilled was not hot enough, it almost looked boiled to me. We have always enjoyed coming here when we come back to Fremont to visit relatives but this time was a disappointment. The menu had changed and not very diverse. Pasta was with everything. Being a native of Fremont, I often enjoy dining in on the town to see what it has to offer. After eating at this restaurant directly after it opened. I had to come see if it was still offering what I experienced. Today I got the French dip after being one of the recommendations of my waitress. It did not disappoint and was quickly wiped off the face of my plate. My significant other decided on a burger with no onion or tomato which was thankfully left off, exactly as requested. The fries were crispy for both meals and the ranch the perfect consistency as expected for fry dipping. We both decided on Prickly Pear Margaritas that are on the drinks menu. This drink does not mess around and will definitely get you your money's worth. Hopefully you go earlier in the day so you can take a short walk around downtown fremont and see some of the quaint antique shops the downtown provides, because I definitely had to in order to sober up enough to drive home. read more

I have been wanting to go here for the longest time! They are one of the few places in Fremont that do brunch. So met a friend there for brunch. She got there 15 minutes before me and had a beer. I sat there 5 minutes and we had no service yet. She told me she stopped at the bar and got the beer herself. We waited another 5 minutes so total of 25 minutes and still no service. So I said let's go. We stopped at the bar so she could pay for her beer and the young lady who had a long brown hair pony tail was the most unfriendly and rude wait staff person I may have ever come across. I said we had an appointment to get to and didn't have time to wait longer. She just said $5.50 for the beer and that was it. She acted like we were a huge inconvenience to her. I was shocked. Despite good reviews on the food, we were very disappointed that our meals were cold. The chicken marsala had very little sauce. We sent back the dishes and the sauce that was added was bland and minimal. Our waitress did the best she could considering she was the only one there and new to her job. Steak was raw ordered it medium rare, it was very thin so I can see why they did not cook it long , a ripoff at $33 . Was excited to try the new Italian restaurant in town. Our waitress Amy was awesome, very attentive. Had the calamari for an appetizer, it was yummy! Nice size rings with light breading. The house salad was fine, you get the choice of either that or bread with your entree. I ordered the shrimp alfredo for entree. The shrimp was delicious, nice and juicy. The overall taste of the dish was off though, wasn't sure what is was. I asked our waitress for a little more sauce, you can tell in the first entree picture there was little to none. I was hoping there'd be some under the pasta, but that wasn't the case. She brought out a little more which I appreciated. I poured it onto the dish and was completely thrown off by the consistency, it was so watery (see second entree picture). I would imagine an alfredo sauce to be thick, creamy, cheesy and garlicky. It was none of that. Bland and tasteless, super unfortunate! The sauce is definitely what was throwing the dish off, it didn't even taste like alfredo. My mom ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and loved it, she ate every bite which is rare for her. The sauce was a little spicy, nothing extreme. The only reason I give 4 stars is because of the calamari and our nice waitress, Amy. My dish however was a 2-3. I would probably go back to try the steak. read more

My wife and I decided to try the new Italian restaurant in Fremont last night. The atmosphere fell a little short of its potential. The tables, booths and decor were very nice. Linen napkins and heavy silverware and dished all adder to the "upscale restaurant" feel, but The music played on the sound system was a local radio station and there is a giant TV in the main dining room playing a sports channel. Are they trying to be upscale or a sports bar? We ordered 2 items as an appetizer; Bruchetta and Creamy Risotto (listed on the menu as a side item). The Bruchetta was truly outstanding. Excellent blend of flavors nicely presented. The Creamy Risotto on the other hand was bland and disappointing. It had a flavor that seemed to come from a box mix rather then a gourmet kitchen. My wife had Fried Calamari with a side of seasoned fries and I had the Shrimp Penne for our main course. The calamari was a small serving and instead just serving the tentacles sliced into rings, the included the head and body of the calamari. The seasoned fries were not seasoned at all. The shrimp penne had 6 or so jumbo shrimp in it and was topped with Swiss cheese. I thought this was different (that's why I decided to try it). While the dish was not bad, it was also not remarkable. The pasta was nothing special (not homemade or even a different Italian verity), just run of the mill paste that you could find in any local grocery store. The vodka sauce tasted like it came from a jar. Not bad, but not special by any means. Neither of us had any alcohol or soft drinks (we both had water). The dinner I just described cost a little over $50. While the food was not terrible, it was not up to par to be considered a fine dining experience worthy of this price or a return visit. read more
