We were kind of surprised, because with a name like this one, I thought it was more of a slot machine parlor than anything else. Turns out they have a full bar and kitchen, with hand-held food. We decided to try it out. First off, you get into the parking lot by entering the RP Home and Harvest parking lot off the Route 251 entrance - there is NO other access. We got in around 11:40, and the place was empty - no staff, no customers. After a few minutes, the waitress / bartender walked in carrying a load of beer. She greeted us, and came back a minute later with the menus. We started with fried mushrooms for an appetizer - they did have a Pick 3 appetizer for $14, but there were only two of us, so we went with the mushrooms. They came out hot and fresh from the fryer, and were served with a small plastic container of what tasted like ranch dressing. We both ordered the OG Hopper, which is a smashed patty on a butter brioche bun, served with either fries (which we selected) or tots. You had your choice of toppings (we took them all, which included a slice of sweet pickle) and cheese, American, Cheddar or Pepper Jack. I did Cheddar, the wife selected Pepper Jack. It wasn't long before the burgers came out with the fries. Both were hot and fresh from the grille / fryer. The burgers were okay. The burger was a little small for the bun, but tasted okay and were done a little on the well-side. The fries had a spicy coating. Good overall.

Ski's is one of the many sports bars in town and amazingly these all get full somehow. Get some cheap ass drinks. The food isn't anything impressive or worth getting most times. Bar that has a sports theme to it. It's like a little better than a dive bar apparently so it's better than it looks. This almost looks nice enough for it to be okay for a family lol kidding obviously. Has a few arcades and games. There's darts, which can be hazardous with the frat boys launching these. It's about $3 for the cheapest cocktails. Whiskey and whatever. It's about $3 for appetizers. There's things like cheese curds and the chips and salsa, but also pizza. Even though it looks crappy it's better than it looks to be honest. It's located on West State Street far from other bars and restaurants. This is a combination of locals mixing with the outsider college students.

You enter through the doors off the parking lot, and then follow the signs to the restaurant entrance to the right, which brings you to the bar. We were told to pick any table. We grabbed a table in the corner. After asking for a wine list, we settled on a decent Pino Noir, as I was planning on steak and my wife wanted chicken. To start with, we decided to try their bacon stuffed mushroom appetizer. We were expecting small mushrooms - nope, these were at least 2" in diameter and they were stuffed full of cheese, bacon and other good stuff. On to the entrees, where my wife ordered their stuffed chicken breast, and I ordered their 8 ounce filet mignon, medium rare, with their vegetable medley and and a baked potato with butter and sour cream. These both came with a good salad with a cup of dressing, and the waitress asked if we wanted more dressing. The filet was served at the correct temperature and was very tender. The baked potato was cooked properly. The vegetable medley had a good combination of cooked vegetables. My wife's stuffed chicken breast was actually 2 stuffed chicken breasts. It was so much she was able to take some home (along with a stuffed mushroom and part of her salad!) She said they were tasty and enjoyable. The food was very good. Service was attentive. This is a notable improvement.

And for the value the kids had a good time. We had food at the bar. Typical bowling alley kinda fare. I had the BLT and deep fried mushrooms. The Hubs had the same but had fried pickles instead. They don't have ANY balls less than 9 pounds. I can just about lift the 9-pounders, but it's hard for me to bowl properly because they make my arm twist a bit when I bowl because they are so heavy. I feel like the only way children can even bowl is if they use the alligator ramps that they have off to the side for balls to get pushed off of. The second thing I wanted to mention is their ridiculous "no outside food" rule. My mom and I had just walked over from Butterfly after having a late breakfast to meet some of my family for a couple games when a lady behind the counter refused to let me keep my food inside the building with me, even though I literally told her at least twice that it was just leftovers from butterfly and that it would just be sitting on the table. Not like I would have popped it open to eat it while bowling. I just find it ridiculous that she couldn't just make an exception and allow me to keep my food inside there with me, because it forced me to have to go out to put it in my aunt's trunk until we were done. That was just unnecessary in general because my waffle pieces were in a foam container and nothing was spilling out or anything. I just want to warn people that if you are going there to play after eating at butterfly, I suggest either finishing at the restaurant or throwing your food out if you leave your car parked by Butterfly.

Lots of interesting stuff hanging on the walls, although that moose is a misrepresentation, you can't put double horns in there and expect people not to notice. Really what I loved the most was the cash register they had behind the bar. The food was OK. Not great.! first of all the meat was phenomenal. I had the New York strip. But the salad and all the sides were worse than a cafeteria. Like really really poor. It doesn't increase food cost that much to throw a little mixed greens in your salad so it's actually healthy. Overall, I had a great experience but it's because I love good steak. Personally, I think high-quality sides make or break a restaurant.

My wife ordered their loaded Bloody Mary, which was very good - it's a shoe-in to win the Best of Ogle County if people try it. The burgers were very good. A clean and 'just right' looking breakfast place. My request was not really a menu item, but was made very quickly and it was delicious. The biscuits warm and flavorful with multiple slices of 'almost country ham' very tasty. [BTW, the skillets looked really good as a cadre of regulars were seated nearby while I waited]. I would not hesitate to return if I'm in the area again.

I ordered Eggs Benedict and it was perfect. They were generous with the hollandaise sauce which suits me just fine. The American fries were delicious -- a very generous serving! My only complaint is their iced tea is either instant or made from concentrate. I should have gotten coffee. We'll go back the next time we're in town.
