Loved everything about this place! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable; food is amazing; ambiance is laid back and comfortable; the decor is right up my alley (and perfect for the area)! We went on a Sunday around lunchtime, and sat at the bar. Service was quick, and the prices are right. My husband and I both ordered the Biscuits & Gravy-his with goetta and mine vegetarian. While I can't speak for him (though he did practically lick his plate), the vegetarian gravy was INCREDIBLE. The consistency was right on with so much flavor! And the Rosemary biscuits-seriously some of the best I've ever had. Will be back, and bring our friends! read more

This was our first (but not last) visit to Pensive and we found it be be absolutely superb. My wife, daughter, and I started our "brunch" with Bloody Mary's. When we ordered, we were asked if we liked them "spicey". Yes ma'am! Perhaps one of the best we've ever had. As we were there by ourselves, the owner stopped to chat. We asked about the bourbon and were offered a sample. I'm not a bourbon drinker but may become one now. We ended up taking a bottle home. I understand taste in bourbon is highly subjective so there may/will be varied opinions. We all loved it and that's that. Now for the food. Wife and daughter ordered the shrimp and grits. Both absolutely loved them. I'm kind of a burger guy so I ordered the brunch/breakfast burger. The burger was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The bottom line: If you're looking for a local place to grab a great drink, meal, and friendly staff/owners, I definitely recommend you try Pensive. I think you'll be glad you did. read more

We really enjoyed our visit here. For being as small as it is, they had a good beer, wine, and cocktail selection. I really enjoyed the shrimp and grits, and my fiance liked his shrimp tacos too. This is my first Yelp review but I just had the best time and had to leave a review! My husband and I were looking for somewhere new (to us) for our anniversary and came across 27+ and I'm so glad we did. Hot new place on Monmouth!!!! After this dinner, I couldn't write anything less than a gleaming review. For an infant eatery, I have to say the service was fantastic. The girls who circled our table waiting in angst to refill our beverages and tend to our every need was refreshing. We started the night with a Dogfish Pèche (light and slightly bitter beer/cider that was refreshing on this hot sticky summer day and a bottle of Rosè. The steak bruschetta and the chicken wontons for an app. They were both memorable and will require a second visit. After apps and a couple more refreshments, we ordered the main courses. The shrimp and grits were some of the best I have had. Southern cuisine has a way of taking hold of the taste buds and catapulting you into the heart of Mississippi on a hot steamy summer night fanning yourself with a newspaper whilst rocking in your favorite wooden rocker. This dish put me right there. The burger was cooked perfectly and topped with a tomato bacon jam that will make you close your eyes so you can fully indulge in the flavors sacking you right in the taste buds. The grilled cheese of the day was one of my favorites. Filled with spring leaves, Apple compote, and grilled to perfection. We had to round off this dinner by trying the deserts. While the desert menu is limited, the cayenne pepper brownie is decadent. Not to spicy, but a lingering heat on the pallet. The cool vanilla gelato on top soothes the burn just enough to ready you for the next indulgent bite. THE DEEP FRIED OREO..... I just can't. Don't let the discreet location of this spot keep you from visiting. This place has the right amount of cool industrial decor and locally sourced food, but without all the overly hipster vibes that are so prevalent in other similar spots. I visited on a Sunday for their brunch. I ordered the Breakfast Sammy and a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary was excellent! It was simple, with a nice amount of kick and tang. They make their own brine and just add tomato juice and vodka. One of my personal favs! The Breakfast Sammy was delicous. The egg was cooked to perfection and the locally sourced bread was soft and tasty. The prices are competitive too! Newport and NKY have a great local spot that is right in line with the quality of Bakersfield and The Eagle in OTR. read more

Went for Sunday; overall good spot for an affordable brunch with a good variety. Had good service and it is a cool and clean place. Went for a random rainy Sunday brunch. I am gluten free and it can be difficult to find things to eat. I let the staff know I could not have wheat and the chef came out and discussed my meal with me and made me something customized for my dietary restrictions. Everything tasted amazing! I love this place! I just moved from the San Francisco Bay Area- and I'd put this up against any of my favorites out there. I've heard the locals describe it as "bringing the OTR vibe to Newport". I love the look and feel of the place - comfortable with a modern edge. The staff is super attentive and very friendly, immediately greeting everyone as they walk in the door. I've eaten here twice now, once for a date night and once for brunch. The food on both occasions was awesome!. Everything was fresh and presented well. My sister's and I met here for brunch over the weekend. We won't meet up here again. At this restaurant (you get no rest) you have to go to bar to order drinks/refills and then go to a separate location to order and pay for your food. You literally spend most of your time standing in line to be served. I don't know about everyone else but when we have brunch we want to be served at our table, not wait at the bar for our drinks (which took 10 minutes to get the attention of he bartender and then another 10 to get our drinks, every time we wanted another drink!) If you want a leisurely brunch with friends, this is NOT the spot. Food was good but nothing to write home about. read more

My friends and I used to love going to the Sunday mimosa happy hour. We walked in the other weekend before the FC soccer game (hoping to have another great experience), and the bartender was extremely rude and said they didn't do that anymore. Stayed in Cincinnati for a night and came here on a whim, very cool place! It has a modern/industrial look. Super friendly and attentive staff. Our waiter said the food is 90% locally sourced so it is very fresh and you get the perk of supporting local farmers. The cocktails are unique and the food was great!
