Coming here felt like going to a spice theme park. You can get a very thorough and quick education on the difference in quality and experience of spices, (for example, between the 5 different cinnamons!) just by wandering from shelf to shelf and trying the samples. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The clerk herself led me on a small tour of the store layout and introduced some of their best seller spice blends, which were indeed epic. Fun for the whole family! The day that I visited this past Sunday, , there was an incredible $2 discount special on the Penzey's cinnamon and the granulated garlic. We left very impressed with the store and the brand (as well as at least half a dozen spice jars)

    Great spice selection

I've been coming to this place for 17 years. It moved from a different spot in the same mall a few years ago. Their selection and quality of spices is unmatched. Their prices are less that grocery stores, and the quality is generally better. They have a large selection of spices, herbs, blends, salad dressing mixes, and pretty much everything you need to cook. They have prepackaged gift boxes and you can make your own. 90% of my home spices are from Penzeys. The people who run the store are also nice. I simply love this place.

We have been buying from Penzeys online for a while so we decided it was time to visit one of the stores....and it was well worth it! The staff was super helpful, knowledgeable, and very friendly. We went in for "1 or 2 items" and came out with over a dozen! The displays are well organized, and they have samples open of pretty much ever spice. Give them a visit, you won't be disappointed.

Hands down the best spices in the country. You can mail order, but it's so fun to go to the shop.

My collection of Penzey's spices and their cute jars

Ask the Community - Penzey's Spices

Can you bring your own containers to refill spices?

From what I have seen you may.

Did they relocate? I went there today and their sign is gone and the location is empty.?

Yes but not far...21217 Hawthorne Blvd. Torrance. It's a few doors north, same shopping area. Got email from them of their new address. Hope this helps!

Kelly helped us to gather and purchase three things: small dried chinese ginseng root ($9), Herbal Tea Blend ($6) to hopefully remediate canker sore symptoms, and a custom made herbal oil ($20) for natural pain management. She spent quite a bit of time with us, since the last two things needed the backroom to custom formulate. Square is their payment processor, with credit cards and Venmo being accepted. Types of product: -- a large collection of herbs, available as single ($10 per oz) or combined ($15 per oz). -- donated herbs and dry goods section: visitors can place or take shelf-stable products. Would have thought -- collective: various donation based sponsored clinics/classes. one example is 'Intro to Herbalism', taught once a month (first Saturday of every month). -- chocolates from Endorfin foods -- custom made essential oils, with testers -- incense sticks and sets -- loose teas at $3 - $4 per oz -- books and literature -- apothecary supplies -- gemstones and tarot cards The inside is super organized, promoting a sense of calm to explore. Kinda reminded me of some of the shops in Sedona, AZ. Their website is also very good, neatly organized to help you find what you need. Parking is limited (one driveway spot for customers), but street parking in the area during the day is not so bad. I think the best description about their business is what they wrote about themselves: "Green Wisdom provides highest quality bulk herbs, ethically sourced, and apothecary ingredients and supplies. We have a skilled herbalist on staff at all times to answer questions, create personalized formulas, and offer assistance. We are also one of the most respected herb schools in California, offering apprenticeships, workshops, and individual classes. In 2020 we will be providing donation-based herb clinics staffed by our advanced apprentices and overseen by trained herbalists."

This is the only herbal apothecary in the area that I'm aware of and it's also one of the few affordable apothecaries in Long Beach. You can tell their mission is really to make herbal remedies and medicine from the earth accessible to everyone. All of the women I've encountered who work at and run this door are deeply knowledgeable. My favorite activity is to go here with some type of issue or ailment and to ask them to make me a custom tea blend to help support my body's healing capacity. But this place is so much more than tea and herbs! It's a lovely little marketplace which features crystals locally made honey and handmade trinkets of all kinds! Every visit feels like a unique, tiny adventure and I look forward to coming every single time.

The first time, I purchased Sprouts brand unsweetened almond milk and Sprouts vanilla almond milk, and both had gone sour before their expiration dates. On a separate visit, I purchased a chocolate almond milk from a different brand, and it was also sour as soon as I opened it. In all cases, I refrigerated the products immediately after getting home, so improper storage on my end was not the issue. The fact that this happened with multiple brands and on different shopping trips makes me believe there may be a refrigeration or temperature-control issue at this location. It's hard to see another explanation when products from different manufacturers are experiencing the same problem. This has resulted in approximately $15-$20 worth of product being wasted, which is frustrating and disappointing. Customers should be able to trust that refrigerated items are being stored properly before purchase. Another ongoing issue is the lack of baggers available at checkout. Cashiers are often expected to scan and bag groceries at the same time, which slows down the checkout process and creates longer lines. Considering the premium prices Sprouts charges, I would expect better staffing and a more efficient checkout experience. I hope management looks into both the refrigeration of refrigerated products and the checkout staffing at this location. These are recurring issues that have negatively affected my shopping experience and make me hesitant to purchase refrigerated items here in the future.
