Big thanks to the ladies working at the Torrance location. I walked in today for the first time. One asked if I needed help, I said I didn't, it was my first time. She then gave me a quick tour of the store that I didn't ask for--but actually probably needed, I found the meat rubs right away. Then I was browsing spices, around my third smelling of Tsardust I heard a voice over my shoulder "It's really good in stews"--I had been wondering if it would be good in something rich like a pasta. Advice that I didn't ask for--but actually probably needed. She then gave me some additional advice about some other mixes I had been interested in. Even though I'm not the type to normally ask for help, both people minding the store were really helpful and pleasant. I'll definitely come back for chili and soup bases in the fall. On June 14, 2026, I decided to visit one of my favorite stores "Penzey Spices". I love to have a variety of spices and Penzeys is like being in Spice Heaven! I decided to make my own homemade Italian & Breakfast Sausage using Ground Chicken & Ground Turkey. Penzeys was the place to go to make this dream come true. I can't wait. The store is always spotless and the customer service is awesome. I was greeted with a smile before I completely entered the building. The staff was very attentive and helped me find my spices and also updated my email so I could get their current promotions. I can't wait to use my "Free" Vanilla Extract. I was also able to get their seasoning spice and paprika for only two dollars each. If you are someone that loves trying new recipes and using spices, try Penzeys. I highly recommend it. read more

I brought my two daughters, ages 3 and 6, into the Penzeys Spices and seated them at the children's coloring area while I prepared to shop. Almost immediately, a store associate named June approached us and told us the area was for customers only. She then took the coloring paper out of my three-year-old's hand, handed her a single sheet of paper, and told her she could "have one." The interaction left us all very uncomfortable and caught off guard. I would have liked the opportunity to explain that my daughters were going to color while I shopped, but the situation felt so upsetting that we decided it was best to leave. We've visited this store many times in the past and have always had positive experiences, which is why this interaction was especially disappointing. It was upsetting for me and particularly difficult for my daughters. read more

Going to a specialty spices shop is a lot of fun!! I really enjoyed being able to smell the spices and the ability to ask the sales associates for recommendations. The store is super organized, clean, and has an immense selection. I picked up 1 new spice mix for myself and a couple other jars as gifts for others. I purposely made a trip to Penzey's because I appreciate their transparency in the values they support. I typically get my spices in bulk at Costco, but will make it a habit to stop by to purchase gifts for loved ones and whenever I'm looking for something special. Coming here felt like going to a spice theme park. You can get a very thorough and quick education on the difference in quality and experience of spices, (for example, between the 5 different cinnamons!) just by wandering from shelf to shelf and trying the samples. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The clerk herself led me on a small tour of the store layout and introduced some of their best seller spice blends, which were indeed epic. Fun for the whole family! The day that I visited this past Sunday, , there was an incredible $2 discount special on the Penzey's cinnamon and the granulated garlic. I've been coming to this place for 17 years. It moved from a different spot in the same mall a few years ago. Their selection and quality of spices is unmatched. Their prices are less that grocery stores, and the quality is generally better. They have a large selection of spices, herbs, blends, salad dressing mixes, and pretty much everything you need to cook. They have prepackaged gift boxes and you can make your own. 90% of my home spices are from Penzeys. The people who run the store are also nice. I simply love this place. read more

Haven't been here since they closed their Santa Monica location years ago. Thankful that this Torrance store is still open, I knew I needed to replenish my one and only 'spice': Pasta Sprinkles. Such an easy thing wakes up my pasta when I don't want to add sauce (and improves it when I do). Large free parking lot, and easy access. When I walked in, I was the only person in there besides the employee who was on a phone order. She directed me over to where I could find my item; two sizes are offered for some of their supply, and the prices are reasonable. Whole transaction took less than a minute, and I was out of there. So grateful that I can still get my favorite pasta secret here! read more

I went to Penzey's on a field trip with a friend. It did not disappoint. So many spices so little time! The spices were displayed in categories. We found everything we didn't even know we needed. I wallet away with a vanilla sugar, dried jalapeños salad enhancing spice, sweet curry and a horseradish bled for an excellent alternative to onion dip. Best part is hike visiting friends in Arvada Co. They brought us to their favorite spice place.... Yup it was Penzey's! They buy the pink Maldon salt , ,, on a regular basis. Probably the best place I have ever been to in the US to buy fresh spices. The key word being fresh. Most grocery store spices have been sitting around for 6 months or more before they even hit the shelves, maybe up to a 1 year. The quality here is defiantly noticeable. What I like most is being able to open a tester of each to actually smell how good they are. Most come in 1/2 sizes you you don't need a full bottle and it's overall a great experience just to do this in person. They do sell on line, maybe a buck or two cheaper but if you live near by, definitely do the store at least one just for the experience of a real spice store, the smells are intoxicating. Lots and lots of spices. They all seem to be good quality. Pricing is reasonable. Sales emails seem to come at the end of the week, and are usually only good for a couple of days. The staff is always friendly. They have a lot of mixed spice items, but many don't seem to have an explanation of how to use them. It may be available online though. For many we just guess and it's been reasonably successful. But you can't miss with the basics. read more

The only place that I was a little displeased was with the service in that I mentioned I had bought a $50 pepper mill there which was broken and the employee told me there was nothing they could do about it because it had been too long since I bought it. Quality spices available in store or online. They used to give out generous samples. Dropped by to grab a bakers spice box as a mini gift and I did not receive any samples. Maybe I was not updated with how they treat different purchases but I was secretly a bit disappointed. The store is located in the strip mall next or close to the poke place. Parking is easy! It is well organized and the spices are in great quality. I may cheat and go pick up common spices at a supermarket or event a dollar store but the aroma and the results of your baking or cooking will convince you the pricing is worth it. Even in the pandemic, they used to do the curbside pickup and you could do online shopping. Some deals are great so I recommend subscribing. read more

What a fun shop! There is ample parking in the front, and the inside of the store is very cute. The spices are in alphabetical order, and there's even a baking section in the back designed to look like a kitchen! They have many variations of the same spice, as well as some you can't really find in your average grocery store. Price-wise, it's a bit more expensive than your average store, but the freshness is worth it. They have samples of everything to smell, and you can really tell how much stronger their spices are compared to the supermarket brands. The staff is knowledgeable and can give you advice about what spices work best in certain dishes. They make their own spice blends, and while I wasn't really a fan of some of them, I still think they're worth a try. read more

I've shopped from Penzey's back in NY every so often but they are often more expensive than other spice shops even comparing the same quality. That said, it's good to know this shop exists for when I'm really needing to hunt down a specific spice. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. Multi-generation Penzey family here! One year my grandma bought everyone Penzey gift boxes for Christmas and it was all downhill from there. So now my grandma, mom, sister, my boyfriend and I are die-hard Penzey fanatics. My only complaint is they closed the store in Orange County but luckily the Torrance location is convenient when I visit family. Customer service is a perfect 10 and cleanliness is outstanding. Due to Covid-19, I've been cooking waayyy more and have been trying to resist cheating on Penzeys (buying spices from the supermarket). Luckily, they have started to offer curbside pickup which was 100% hassle free. Yesterday, I called the store and although I got the busy tone a couple tries, I finally got through and was able to place my order. The wonderful lady I spoke to ran around the store picking up each spice on my long list, rang me up, and took my payment method via phone. I arrived to the store 10 minutes later and my spices were bagged up with my name on them and was able to pick them up contact free! If you're doing more cooking as of late or just want to explore some wonderful flavors, I highly recommend giving Penzey's a call and picking up your "social distance" approved order! I have been using Penzey's Spices for well over a decade. I have never been to the store, have done it all online. I especially love their freeze dried shallots. I use them in almost all my recipes that call for onion. All their spices are of the highest quality, shipping is easy and quick. I also love the little extras they include in the package, samples that I might never otherwise try, fridge magnets, bumper stickers, etc. It's also refreshing that the owner has no problem showing where their heart is, and trying to encourage others to do the same.
