This review is specifically for Terri and her amazing eyelash extensions. I have been getting eyelash extensions for over a year after getting hooked in San Francisco. Previously I was a travel nurse and moved frequently. I have had a terrible time finding someone who could apply lashes the same way I was accustomed to in SF. The lashes would be heavy or look extremely thick and un natural. I had people who would pull on my skin and lashes around my eyes and hurt me. After moving to Columbus recently I looked up certified eyelash experts on XTREME lashes website and found Terri. She is a godsend. She is professional and just a lovely person in general to talk to. You can tell she loves applying lashes and does it meticulously going back and forth between eyes ensuring they look even. Did I mention the fact you're getting this done at a spa. The receptionists are attentive and always offering you a beverage. The table is heated that you relax on while your lashes are applied. I was so relaxed I fell asleep during my last appointment. I will never go to another aesthetician after being spoiled by her and the other staff at Charles Penzone. A couple of thoughts if you haven't had lashes before. You absolutely get what you pay for. Yes, the XTREME lashes are expensive. What you get is a professional application in a sanitary manner. You do not want an eye infection or have a bad application that causes your eye lashes to fall out. XTREME lashes are also very comfortable to wear. You will not notice you even are wearing them. Second, the lashes are totally customizable to what you're looking for, length, fullness, color. That being said, it may take a couple of trips to find the exact look you want. Until you wear them around daily it's hard to determine what length and fullness works best with your lifestyle. Third, prepare to become addicted! You will wake up to beautiful lashes that don't require mascara. I don't even wear eyeliner anymore. We used the Grand Salon for wedding hair and makeup. While the hair and makeup was incredibly beautiful for the 10 members of the wedding party, it was the customer service that exceeded our highest expectations. Trying to make appointments for 10 women needing hair and makeup on a Sunday is no easy task. However, Rachel, Skye, and Delaney worked to ensure that we could schedule these 10 ladies in the same salon and within a 2 hour window. The staff quickly became part of the wedding team and were welcoming and accommodating to us in every way possible. In regards to the hair and makeup experience, I would note that each of us had a unique updo and the makeup was designed to meet the personality of each lady as well. The end product was beautiful and only one of the ladies had a concern with her look which was promptly addressed and tended to before our departure. We all left happy with our individual and collective looks. I've utilized the Grand Salon for 20 years personally and my three daughters have made it their "beauty home" as well. Jaden is always warm, friendly and professional whenever I see her. She consistently provides me with excellent service and I have always been happy. This was my third Charles Penzone Grand Salon experience. Mika did my wedding updo and did a fabulous 5-star job (coming to the hotel where we got ready and efficiently producing a beautiful braided Kate-Middleton-esque look). My second experience was a "haircut and design" with Ivy, who gave me a trim and shaped my layers - also did a nice job (I would say 4 stars). I scheduled online with a stylist, and received a call day of that my selected stylist was out of the salon unexpectedly, so they had to push my appointment time back by 15 minutes, but upgraded me to a designer "haircut and design" at no additional cost to me. Once I arrived at the new time (15 minutes after I had originally hoped to be in), I waited an additional 15 minutes for Hayden, the designer, to be ready. I was a little disappointed by the wait time, but was ultimately pleased with the end results of my cut. I was chopping longer hair to a shoulder length bob so that I could donate my hair to Pantene, and Hayden quickly and carefully took care of my request. I'm relatively new to Yelp, but at the same time I'm pretty sure my experience at this salon is precisely what this website was created for. Two friends and I all had pedicures booked for Friday 5/1 in the late morning. I booked them all. We were trying to celebrate a fun occasion. First thing Friday morning I get a phone call that someone had called off and one of us was getting bumped to a later time. Okay - a slight hiccup, but those things happen so we dealt with it. My other friend and I were still booked at the same time so we luckily ended up in the same room (I begged for this, but they wouldn't guarantee it). My technician was absolutely courteous and nice, but she was clearly under the weather. She kept hacking coughing and excusing herself. Again - very busy day, I understand she probably felt she couldn't take the day off. Unfortunately it was a completely disruptive "spa" experience. However, the outcome was still the same - a nice looking pedicure, so I tipped 20% and left. After a few days I realized I was still thinking about it and dwelling on my unsatisfactory experience (we were there to relax) so I responded to the survey that Penzones sent me. I wasn't rude, I just expressed my concern for the technician's health and commented that it wasn't exactly the relaxing spa experience I was anticipating. After a few days a customer service rep called me. I was at work so I called her back at a later time and left a message. After 2 days she called me back again. She apologized and gave me excuses for the technician's coughing. That was it. I was a little stunned that she shared with me the technician's private health information and then just asked if I wanted her to book me any services at that time. I wasn't exactly looking for reimbursement, but at the same time - the excuses she provided didn't change my perception on my poor experience. I don't know - it was an overall fail/fail. I made it clear when they moved the first appointment that it was ruining something that was planned as a celebration and I was pretty underwhelmed by the excuses the customer service rep gave me. They get 2 stars instead of 1 because my pedicure looks nice. EDITED - I received a personal phone call from Andrea, the salon director 2 days after this review was posted. She never mentioned Yelp and handled the situation beautifully. I was impressed. read more

First off, let me preface this with the fact that I am VERY picky about my hair. It's really long, very healthy, and I entrust very few with its care because I've had some less-than-good experiences in my past with bad dye-jobs and cutting too much off of the ends despite specific instruction otherwise. However, Makala at Charles Penzone's Grand Salon in Dublin makes my hair look better than it has ever looked in my entire 23 years upon this earth. She is a true artist, and she knows how to balance my specific demands with her creative talent. I've only had two appointments with her, but both times she has not only cut my hair in a flattering way, but dyed it so that it is trendy but classy and professional. I like to tell her some basic guidelines but allow her to have some fun and experiment with the style, and she always delivers. Now my hair looks so good that I've had random people on the street compliment me on the color. As for the experience at Penzone's, I've never been treated anything but well. They always offer me coffee, tea, or water when I check in, as well as during my appointment, and the check-in receptionists are always kind and helpful. Makala is always super friendly and we never run out of things to talk about, and even her assistants are a pleasure to interact with. Monique (who has her own chair now) and Blaire have been nothing but nice and I enjoy my time with them as well. The only slightly negative thing I could say about the service is that the people at the check-out have waited until I'm in the middle of filling out a check to let me know that checks aren't taken--which is fine, but I had to void a perfectly good check because I had already started filling out the specifics. All in all, I would recommend Penzone's to anyone seeking a great pedicure, an anxiety-free eyebrow wax, or a great cut and color/highlight. Though I've only seen Makala, her skills show that she is truly a master of the color/cut and I really can't imagine seeing anyone else now. I've been spoiled! I am not usually one to complain and will note I've been going to Charles Penzone for about 3 years to get my hair done. My most recent experience there was a complete nightmare. I went in for blonde highlights, my roots were pretty grown out but the rest of my hair was a golden blonde.. The first look was horrifying, I had a dark spot right in the front of my hairline that was missed, and my hair was PURPLE from the toner which I was told would wash out. I washed my hair twice and the purple faded but was still noticeable. The spot was what I couldn't deal with. I went back to have it fixed they say you have 2 weeks to get it fixed for free. So I go back to have it fixed and I am still not happy with the results. The spot is now a lighter orange color instead of brown, and I now have a yellow section in the front of my part. Like I said I am not one to complain and have never had these issues before with my stylist that I had been going to for 3 years. She recently switched jobs, and is a lot further away from me, so on a last minute whim I decided to book with someone else at Penzones and I was very unhappy with my results. read more

I recently moved from NY to OH. I was looking for a place to get a haircut and facial. After speaking to a few people and researching online, I kept coming across and hearing about Penzone. Instead of calling I went to the location to check it out. They took my temperature upon arriving and were extremely helpful with listening to what I wanted. They provided me with a full list of services and took the time to make sure my facial and haircut were back to back. I first had a facial with Harley. She was very friendly and explained all the steps and products she was using on my skin. I truly was able to relax and safely enjoy my experience. I then had a haircut with Hanan. Two years ago I had a horrible haircut in NY and have been so scared to get my haircut by anyone. She listened to exactly what I wanted done and gave me beautiful beach waves to finish. I booked a cut and highlight at Charles Penzone, with some trepidation as I've just moved to Columbus and it's always a little scary to find a new stylist. The first place in town that I tried didn't quite do it for me, but then I found Ashley here at the Dublin location and just left my appointment extremely satisfied. First of all: booking was so easy. It's online and you can see photos of all the different stylists with their areas of expertise, making it easy to pick someone. Location: I arrived on a Saturday morning, and found that the location here is large and with plenty of parking. When you walk inside, the decor is very nice and I was greeted and offered a refreshment right away. It looked like other stylists were very friendly and chatting with ease with their clients. The place has a comfortable but professional vibe. From what I understand, the current building is old but there is a brand new location being built right next door and should be done this fall/winter. They are also building a new barber location in Italian village later this year - a plus for my partner! Stylist: Ashley was my stylist. She was warm, personable, and so easy to talk to. I never felt rushed as I explained what I wanted and showed her some pictures. She asked good questions and took a look at my hair before proceeding. She checked with me often throughout. She did a great job! The color is perfect, and I'm thrilled with the cut. I pre-booked for her again right away. She recommended some products at my request - they have many lines here including Lanza, Schwarzkopf, Davines, and others. I left feeling amazing and well taken care of! Extra plus: Checkout was quick and easy. The gal at the checkout counter was also friendly, professional, and helpful. We chatted as I checked out and she helped book me again for the next time. I booked a perm with Gary (senior director) several days ago. This was my first visit to Penzone, as I recently relocated to Ohio. I have had large wave perms for many years, and it is unexpected and disappointing that Penzone was the worst experience I've had at a salon. My first impression of the hair stylist was that he wasn't very friendly-- which threw me off but didn't bother me much. He did a great job rolling up my hair. However, 10 minutes into processing my hair, the stylist came over to tell me that he had put the wrong solution in my hair. He said that he was "not wearing [his] glasses" and therefore applied the neutralizer instead of the perming solution. Initially, we were going to move forward with the perm, as I had no availability to reschedule in the upcoming weeks. He instructed his assistant to wash the neutralizer solution off my hair and re-wrap several sections of hair that had become undone. His assistant was very nice, however she was only several weeks into her apprenticeship and clearly had very limited experience in wrapping hair into perming rods. In the mean time, the hair stylist had already moved on to another client. I am a healthcare worker, and as someone in the service industry, I believe it is highly unprofessional to let someone else fix your mistake. Also, I thought it was strange that during COVID times the salon would double book a time slot, such that multiple clients would use one station in the same visit. After consulting his colleagues, Gary told me that we would not be able to move forward with the perm after all. When I got home from the appointment, I immediately re-washed and deep conditioned my hair. I was upset to find that my hair had become dry from the neutralizer and had lost some of its original curls. Not only did I waste 2 hours at the salon, but I came home with hair that was more damaged than before the visit. I understand that mistakes do happen. However, my experience is that other salons in the same tier and pricing as Penzone have much better reliability and overall quality. The salon has offered me a free perm since the visit, however I will not be going back there. read more

I was in Columbus on an extended business trip and couldn't get home to my usual hairdresser in time for Christmas, so I made an appointment with Karen S (a master level stylest) for a consult, cut and color. My friend at home has been cutting and coloring my hair for nearly 20 years and I love her work, so I was a bit nervous. Karen was wonderful - warm, friendly, and she took her time and asked good questions before shifting my summery copper red to a dark, daring auburn that looks fantastic. She did an overall color, then pulled some highlights (lowlights? sidelights?) in the two shades to either side of the main color to give me some variety and depth. It looks amazing and I really love it. When it came time for the cut, Karen was just as meticulous about understanding what I wanted and gave me a cute choppy bob that I adore. As someone who has visited day spas throughout the country and, a few outside of the country, I'm truly shocked Penzone has the lack of consideration to advertise this as a spa. This is a high end hair salon that offers services you would find on a spa menu. Upon entering, you are greeted by someone calling for you to check in through a kiosk and, blaring rap music in the lobby. There is nothing day spa like about the experience. It is more relaxing to hang out at an airport. The massage and, pedicure were fine. Nothing great but, nothing to complain about. These services are not cheap. If you are looking for a true day spa experience, you will be disappointed. Their hair services may well be fantastic. I can't comment on that as my family and, I were there for what we were told would be a true day spa experience. Scrolling through the reviews, I am not the only to have had such an experience. From now on, I will be checking reviews before spending so much money on a rare treat. read more

The salon and the stylists are nice, but they are terrible at doing what is asked. The first time I went I said I wanted my hair colored all over with a light brown not darker than a level 5 and my hair cut 4 inches and new layers. I ended up with burgundy/ purple hair and cut to all one length. I contacted them and got someone else to fix the cut, but she didn't have time to fix the color. They finally made time for the color to get fixed after waiting 5 weeks, but she only fixed the top layer and said I would meet to go again to get the rest fixed. I went last week to get all over highlights and have my hair cut. I paid $256 and the guy only did the highlights on the top layer of my hair which was done previously and only put layers in the bottom 3-4" of my hair. I showed him pictures of 3 different shag/ layered cuts and still didn't get what I asked for. When he did was massive damage to the top layer and the rest it still burgundy/ purple color. I can't even say how frustrated I am. I feel like they should refund my money read more

I want a healthy tan but in the healthiest, longest lasting way possible. I was nervous about a 'spray tan gone wrong' experience, but then I met Terri Holm at the Dublin location. Wow!!!! She's REALLY good. The tan looks very natural and seems to be lasting quite a long time. I would highly recommend her and the spray tan service. Rumor has it that they may discontinue the spray tans when they open up the new Dublin location but a sure hope that's not the case. Fingers crossed they keep it as an option. I would be remiss if I didn't mentioned how wonderful it is to have someone like Terri, someone in my age bracket, who can take care of me for tans, facials, whatever. She and I have things in common and she understands my needs and concerns better, I feel, than some of the 20 or 30 somethings that work there. In fact, in the waiting area the last 3 times I've been there, literally every person waiting was I would guess in the 40-60 age bracket. We are a large group, financially stable who want to age gracefully and we NEED to see someone we can related to and trust, someone like Terri, who GETS us. I called in to your main line and let them know they had sent the appointment reminder to the wrong person. The gal I spoke with said she would look into what had caused the mix up and that she would gix it. Evidently it did not get fixed as now I've received a request to rate the service I received. I fully realize this is no big deal in the scope of life, but it does bother me. With so much identity theft out there it makes me wonder how safe my information is with your salon. This salon was recommended to me about a year ago and my first few experiences were great. I was excited for my first haircut post baby. With my husband out of town for work, I scheduled an appointment a couple of days before returning to work myself. I didn't think twice about having to bring my baby with me. When I arrived and checked in, nothing about a children's policy was mentioned to me. I was greeted by my stylist with an eye roll and a very curt hello. Once back at the chair, I was asked if I hadn't been aware of the child policy, ow which I of course responded no. I offered to reschedule and come back another time. Instead, sarcastic remarks about my baby were made between stylists, my stylist sped through a 5 minutes hair cut, and was made to leave with wet hair since my daughter started to get a bit fussy. AND, I was charged for this rude treatment. I suppose I can understand why they might have a policy about not having small children in the salon, but the way I was treated was unacceptable. I left wondering about single mothers. How would they be able to use this salon? Would they be shamed for having to conduct their day to Day business with a newborn in tote? So, sure maybe I'll wait until my husband is in town the next time I need a haircut. Or maybe I won't. Nonetheless, I'm currently on the search for a new salon. Suggestions welco read more

We were extremely disappointed. While staff was friendly and salon clean, services were lacking. There were two of us for a girls day out mani/ pedi. We were taken back separately and not side by side. I was done in half the time that my friend was done. Neither of the techs did much to the cuticles. I had a great eyebrow arch experience with Joy! She is awesome and I love her bubbly personality. I just wish I would have asked her exactly which eyebrow powder I should use.
