Has anyone EVER heard of a massage therapist smearing body oil on a face? She was also jerking my arms and head around while telling me to "relax." It felt as though she had no formal training. When I spoke to the manager about it she simply said "massage therapists are a dime a dozen. You are not going to fall in love with every single one of them." I believe it is under new ownership and the service has hit rock bottom. That place will not last long in an area like Bridge Park. Take my advice and spend your money somewhere else.

When we walked in, the staff seemed confused and panicked that we arrived on time for our appointment. After waiting a bit, we were put into our rooms with very little instruction. We were told to take our tops off and get under the covers for a massage. We thought this would just be a neck and shoulder massage included with the head spa package. We had booked the total package, the biggest one they offer and for both of us. We were then told that only one of the workers knew how to do massages, so one of us would get a massage while the other got the head spa, then we'd switch. No robes, no explanation, just "be ready." Our appointment was at 3:30, but nobody came in until 3:55. Sitting in silence for 25 minutes waiting was extremely uncomfortable. When they finally came in, the masseuse asked us to remove the rest of our clothes -- something that was never mentioned beforehand. Their website does not make it clear that this is a full-body massage, so this absolutely needs to be explained better. The head spa itself was a disaster for me. It basically felt like a very rough, deep hair wash. No one explained any of the products being used, what the facial mask was, or what steps were happening during the process. There were no before-and-after photos like other head spa services online. It wasn't relaxing. Instead, it was uncomfortable and even painful. They were digging into my scalp so hard that when I asked for lighter pressure, I was ignored. They were rubbing my hair aggressively between two hands, and I knew I was going to end up with knots. At the end of the head spa time, they started blow-drying my hair with heat, once again without any explanation. I wasn't expecting heat on my hair at all. After this, I had my full massage (about 60 minutes), during which my hair continued drying. When the massage ended, I reached up and felt the biggest knot of my life -- a literal bird's nest on top of my head. The worker immediately saw me freaking out. Instead of explaining anything, she started dumping oil in my hair and brushing through it harshly. I said "ow" multiple times, and it didn't matter. Then she brought the heat tool back out to "help," which only made my hair frizzier and more damaged. Keep in mind this was all happening while I was face-down on the massage table, making my hair even more voluminous and chaotic. I had to go home immediately, wash my hair, and do treatments because it felt fried. If anything, this service made my hair worse. The massage was equally strange. After being told to undress fully, the masseuse worked halfway down our buttocks, pulling the covers down and exposing us in a way that felt completely inappropriate. I've had many massages -- anything near that area is normally done on top of the covers. The pressure was also extremely intense, with lots of elbows and body weight. I was sore for days afterward, to the point where deep breaths hurt. I'm honestly not sure if she strained something. The whole experience was so bizarre that my mom and I laugh about it now, but I would not recommend this place at all. The five-star reviews do not match what we experienced. The pricing was also confusing. We were charged a deposit, then it was returned, then we were charged around half the service cost, then that was removed... and when we asked for clarification, the staff didn't really understand it either. It genuinely felt like we were being scammed for a moment. The ambiance was fine, but the music could've been louder, and the décor felt like several themes mixed together. Sticking to one vibe would help. Overall, I wish we had gone to the Bridge Park head spa or even somewhere like Kenneth's instead. This was not worth the price or the stress. Modern Male does a good job of capturing the 'male spa' experience without feeling forced or pretentious and they offer a wider array of services than their peers. While I haven't yet sampled any of the their other offerings, I have been returning to the same stylist (Courtney) for a haircut/ scalp treatment for the better part of a year so far and couldn't be happier. Truth be told, I'm not sure what the value of the scalp treatments is - or if I need it, but it's a really relaxing massage at the very least! Everyone in the salon is extremely pleasant and engaging, and the space is cozy, clean, and has a good energy about it. They don't have their own parking, but there is a large lot nearby and I've never really had any issue finding a spot. I intend to avail myself of their other services in the future, so I may edit at some point, but this place is aces in my book!

Mysteriously, my review was removed and I never received a reply from the owner, like many others. I want my story to be known and heard because I fear the salon, a once highly sought after venue, is spinning in a downward spiral. I also noticed several similar stories and wish to add mine. Be warned. Short story: I had been a customer for over 20 years, coming to the Dublin salon for about the last 8 years since I moved the area. I have been a long standing client at the Max Salon and Gahanna Penzones as well. To this point, I had never missed or cancelled an appointment, but I had an emergency and had to cancel unexpectedly in the morning for an evening appointment. I notified the salon immediately. A few days later, I found a charge on my credit card bill from the salon. When I contacted the customer service agent, she explained that it was a cancellation fee. She also referred me to their website, which stated "We're all human + understanding things come up. Our aim is to be understanding of that, especially for our loyal guests." I provided her the info above and she referred me to the salon manager, Gabriella. I left a message for Gabriella and she did not return my call. I waited about three weeks and tried again. I was asked to wait on hold for her, which I did for over 30 minutes. When she came to the phone, she berated me and said she already returned my call and that she cannot reverse the charge and that "she already told me that." She explained that Jaycee, the stylist, decided to inflict the charge and she cannot do anything about that; it was the stylists choice and she has no authority to undo the fees. She continued to state that I cancelled and there is no relief, regardless of how long I have been a loyal customer. She also stated that the policy has been "like this for some time" and she "knows what the website says." Obviously, I am not returning to the salon and would warn anyone of their policies. In this case, my credit card company was able able to refund me the fraudulent charges, while the salon refused to budge. The salon may appear nice and freshly renovated, but the management and owners do not care about their customers and unfortunately, they have lost a loyal and honest client. I will add that there are plenty of of nearby competing establishments that are of similar or better quality that I have found instead. Consider: Spavia for massage services or The Spa at River Ridge for hair services. J. Bentley is also amazing but a tad further away. I have been happy to spend my hundreds of dollars with them instead. read more

I honestly cannot believe how bad my experience was. I went in expecting professional highlights from a salon that charges premium prices, and what I left with looked like something done in a rush at a beauty school on someone's first day. The highlights are uneven, patchy, and turned white instead of blonde. Instead of the soft, natural, blended look I asked for, I ended up with harsh, chunky streaks that don't blend with my base color at all. It's the kind of result you expect when someone does their own hair at home with a $10 box kit--not from a salon charging luxury prices. The process itself felt rushed and careless. There was little attention to detail, and it seemed like no real effort was made to properly section my hair or ensure the color was applied evenly. When the foils came out, it was already obvious something wasn't right, but somehow it only got worse once everything was dried and styled. The final result looked nothing like the photos I showed or the color we discussed beforehand. What makes this experience even more frustrating is the absolutely ridiculous price I was charged for it. I paid an extremely high amount expecting skilled work, careful application, and a polished result. Instead, I left with hair that looked damaged, uneven, and completely different from what I asked for. Paying that much money only to immediately start researching other salons to fix it is beyond disappointing. To make matters worse, the highlights are so poorly blended that they create obvious stripes throughout my hair. In some places the color looks overly processed and dry, while in other spots it barely lifted at all. It's inconsistent from root to end, and the tone is so cool that it looks white in certain lighting. I've had highlights done many times before, and I've never seen such horrendous work. Overall, this was an incredibly disappointing experience and absolutely not worth the price. I walked in expecting professional results and walked out feeling like I needed immediate color correction somewhere else. Spending that much money for highlights that look this bad is honestly shocking. I would strongly caution anyone considering this service to think twice before booking at this salon. read more

So incredibly disappointed. For the amount of money I've spent ($$$$) you'd think my hair would look amazing. Instead it's falling out/breaking off by the handfuls and is a terrible tone and cut I've been going to Penzone's for a few years hoping to find some kind of consistency. Giving multiple chances to several stylists. Instead, I averaged about a 1 out of every 3-4 visits being "good". It seems as though plenty of time and money was spent to "rebrand" but I'm not seeing where any effort or investment was put into developing the stylists actual skills. I was told the goal was to "not be your grandma's salon" anymore. Well, personally, I think the grandmas may have been treated better and their hair cared for better!! Please bring back "granny's salon"! At least stylists cared about the product they were putting out there and they cared about the person in their chair. Customers are made to feel responsible for stylist mistakes. No refunds. "Fixes" were offered but when the customer is left feeling like the poor quality of service is somehow their fault and that they are an inconvenience/not welcomed in the salon, who wants to stay for that??? 3+ "fixes" requires a lot of customer investment. Time, travel, energy that could be spent elsewhere, endurance of intense judgment...it's a terrible situation. Thousands of dollars have been spent trying to "find a good hairstylist" at Penzone's. It's time to take my business elsewhere. I hope anyone reading this review takes it to heart. Key note: When considering testing out a Penzone's near you... Think about how much you love your grandma and how you would want her to be treated. Then, realize that the stylists themselves stand by the motto "not your grandma's salon". So that special woman who's endured so much....she won't be receiving the level of care she accustomed to. And neither will you. Maybe a rebranding needs to be made on their motto. read more

Salon management is terrible! Stylists lie to keep your money. After 4+ hours, I left with orange hair. I was charged $75 more than what I had booked online. Online cost said $195, I paid $265. When I mentioned I was not made aware of the up charge, I was told it was due to extra product being used & the time it took to blow dry my hair... What?! Might I mention, my stylist was TOTALLY overbooked. She actually stopped mid blow dry to go take a consult with another client. She also left me in the washing bowl for 45 mins. My head went numb multiple times bc she never came back. She did give me complimentary hair mask but I realized it was just so she could go service other clients. I would have said no if I knew how long I'd be sitting there. The worst part was the orange hair. I mentioned at the beginning of my appointment that I wanted to keep my dark grown in roots & ASHY blonde was a must for me (showed her the photo below for reference of what I wanted). I hate gold tones in my hair, but I ended up leaving with ORANGE hair and my brown roots were practically gone. I told management I was not happy with my service and also I was NOT told about the $75 up charge to my appointment. They told me I could get a partial refund since I was not told of the up charges, so I called to confirm I would received the refund two days later. While on the phone, I was told I couldn't get the refund because no one has ever complained about the stylist I had & basically that I was lying. So I'll just have to post what actually happened & proof of my orange hair. The first photo is what I wanted verse what I got. I spoke with them multiples times over the phone & they were only willing to refund me $35. Ridiculous. I would not recommend going here! No respect for clients time OR money. read more

I visited the Charles Penzone Salon last Friday. I was extremely disappointed by the behavior of 2 of the front desk staff by the names of Raleigh and Brooke (thank you for having them wear name tags). When I approached the counter they were in the middle of a conversation about personal stuff, and didn't even acknowledge me until I stood there for awhile. It took another employee coming up to say "is anyone helping that customer" for me to be waited on. When Brooke did finally wait on me she seemed annoyed like it was a bother to help me.From the way that the 2 of them acted it seems they just want to be there to socialize not work and they didn't care about customer service and the way they are portraying the company. This is not the first time that I have experienced poor customer service with Raleigh. Back in April I was in the salon treating a friend to a day at the salon and when I went to check out she was having a conversation with the other girls about how hung over she was and how sick she felt. When she checked me out she was hunched over the whole time and smelled of alcohol. I typically don't write reviews, but after 2 times of lack of poor customer service I felt that I needed to write a review as this is representation of the company. This is extremely a shame being that these are the last people that you come into contact before you leave the salon. I will not come back and I don't wish to be contacted. I arrived 25 mins early For a keratin treatment sat there waiting until 2:25 appt at 2:15. I ask how much longer it'll be. someone went to check took her 6 mins. someone comes to get me to wash my hair. (she was great) I ask how long it'll take Ali have to get my child at 5. Zoey P comes over who is supposed to do my hair. I was already upset I had to wait and no one was professional enough to tell me hey were behind. I ask how long is it going to take because I have to get my daughter at 5 and she starts off with an attitude looking at her watch saying it's only been 15 mins. She told me I can come back and I told her no this is my only free time. I didn't know she'd be unprofessional from start. She got another attitude and said I feel like yyou'rebeing hostile. No I'm just thinking if I need to call and tell them I'm going to be late and she walks off. she brought her attitude down while doing my hair. However I got home and looking in the mirror I have chemical burn. she told me it will itch but it's mild. If it's mild why do I have a chemical burn across my hair line and some in the back of my head. She also never gave me any after care instructions felt rushed out so she could get to her other two clients who was being done at the same time. I will not be going back to that Penzone. and when I was done I could not find Debbie as she was there when I got there but not when done. Not sure I'll be going to another Penzone.But definitely not going back to Zoey. read more

PLEASE use caution when reading negative reviews about stylist who are specifically stated. I'm all about the good and bad and being given a heads up if you will, but what you have to take into consideration is, the style and commonalities between the stylist and yourself. If your new to a salon and have no referral, simply tell them a little about your hair and ask for them to match you with someone who may be a good candidate for your hair styling needs! I have had multiple problems with my hair at every salon I've ever gone to, except for here and 1 other place. I wanted to give a very big thank you to Danielle who is a Director and did a fantastic job with my hair. I don't exactly have easy hair to contend with and she brought her A game and didn't bat an eye. Now, how I know it was a great job is when it's time for me to wash and fix it myself, that's when the true test occurs, because I can then see how the cut was executed etc. Well, I'm ecstatic because the test was passed and she now has a loyal client. I'm having my Peppermint Pedicure finished up as I write this. I am sorely disappointed with the treatment and the skill set of my pedicurist, Bianca. I feel like it was rushed. I came in with a gel french pedicure that needed to be redone due to some black dye that stained my feet from a pair of shoes that I recently purchased. The removal of my pedicure was mediocre at best. She left behind some of the remnants from the previous one, but is adding new polish on top of it. The massage was terrible, very half hearted. No callus removal. I recently went to Avalon Nails in Polaris Mall for a similar pedicure. Avalon offers callus removal. CP does not. Bianca utilized a nail file to try and 'treat' any calluses. =| Save your money and go to a place like Avalon Nails for top notch pedicure service. I booked mani/pedi services online for July 23. I booked one after the other, as I had appointments that day before and after my services. I received a call from Ryan, stating the manicure was canceled due to the nail professional's illness. I understand this can't be predicted. However, this did throw off my schedule for the day, and the call came in at 8:30am for my 12:15 appointment. No alternative appointment was offered. I reviewed the Penzone web page which clearly states a 24 hour notice is required if the customer cancels. I received a three hour notice. I'd like it documented, should I ever have to cancel! Also felt no apology was offered. I'm a long time customer, and felt this was not good communication, to say the least. I did receive the pedicure, by Reign, who was excellent in delivering the service. read more

I was extremely disappointed by my experience. I arrived for my appointment with my young daughter, who was quietly sitting beside me and not disrupting anyone. There were no other clients in the entire room at the time, yet I was refused service solely because I had my child with me. I completely understand that businesses have policies, but the way this situation was handled was unnecessarily rude and lacked any compassion or understanding. Not every parent has access to childcare for every appointment, and a little kindness and professionalism would have gone a long way. Customer service is about treating people with respect, even when enforcing a policy. Unfortunately, I left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this establishment. read more

I've been a client of Penzones before the Dublin salon was built and have gone to the same person, Carol Beck, all these 30 + years. She knows everything there is to know about coloring, cutting, and we have fun visiting. I also go to Tabitha when I can't get an appointment with Carol and she's another absolutely terrific hairdresser. If I need a pedicure, Cecelia is the best of the bunch. We each have such a great time visiting and I always leave Penzones in Dublin with a smile on my face and a song in my heart because they bring beauty to my life. Thank you, Charles and Deborah Penzone, for providing the people of Columbus with such wonderful salons and I love the fact that you are involved in so many charitable endeavors in our community. I went to this salon on July 2 and asked for a balayage and cut. What I got was highlights and chemical damage. I then called the salon and they had me come in for a treatment which I received. I then got a follow up call from the manager, Miranda, asking how the treatment went and I informed her that the damage was still present. She then proceeded to blame the damage on me and the fact that I had box colored my hair 6 weeks prior. To defend myself, I then sent pics of before and after showing that the damage was caused by the salon. She spoke to me condescendingly and never apologized for the chemical damage that had been done to my hair. I had to then go to another salon so that the damage could be cut out. read more

I have been a client at the Dublin Grand Salon for 15 years after moving to Ohio from Oklahoma. I no longer live in Columbus area but drive 2 hrs just to see Marci and Carrie for my beauty needs. Marci is one of the best stylists around! She's very professional and makes your salon experience amazing. We spend the entire time catching up and laughing!! She makes fighting the traffic well worth it! Carrie is an amazing esthetician! I can always count on looking my best after our wax sessions. I visited Charles Penzone on February 3, 2018. I wanted a drastic change with my hair. I booked my appointment with Kendra. My hair was long and I asked her to do what SHE thought would look good. After all, she's the professional, not me. She asked a few questions before we got started. The highlights were perfect. The cut? Unbelievably the BEST cut I have ever had! She was not afraid to use her talent and it turned out amazing! She even talked me through how to style it, as I'm not used to short hair. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. My hair is difficult to cut and I was ready for a real change. Darren asked a lot of questions about my lifestyle and what how I usually style my hair. We talked a lot about cut and color before he even started. He then told me what he planned to do with the color to see if that was what I was looking for. When it came time to cut I showed him several pictures of what I liked but told him he could do what he thought would look the best. After moving to the area in July I have been to four other hair salons, one downtown and to three in the area here. No one would do what I wanted. They would tell me you do not texturize curly hair?! I ended up looking like a mushroom head after two weeks! I thought I would try Charles Penzone in Gahanna. I was a little scared with the reviews on this sight. Some were good others not so good. I made an appointment with Kim L. She listened to me and did exactly what I wanted. I will be going back to her! She is awesome, I wanted to hug her! I just read all the reviews (complaints). I've been going to Penzones in Dublin (I live in Gahanna-near Penzones here) for at least 25 years because of Bobbi Cardi. She listens! I dread the day I won't be able to drive the distance anymore. She's great! Emmy Camp P.S. My only complaint is when I call for an appointment the girls answering the telephone talk so fast I always have to ask them to slow down so I can understand them and before you know it they are back up to 'speed' only louder. Had a much better experience the second time around. After hearing that I was not happy about my first massage experience, I was contacted about how they could make it up to me. I was given several options, and I decided to try the complimentary upper body massage with Beth. She was a great massage therapist! I am very please with how they handled the situation. I am definitely going back to Charles Penzone because now I know that customer service is important to them. I have already booked a pedicure for next month before my friends wedding! read more

After moving to Columbus a few years ago I had to hunt for a new stylist. I finally found Joshua at the Grand and couldn't be happier with his service. He always has some new ideas for what I can do and has great suggestions. I just tell him "Do what you want" and have yet to be disappointed after 5 appointments. He cut my friend's hair and it was the most adorable cut she has ever had. She won't change either. The prices are competitive and you get what you pay for. My color is always amazing and my cut is just what I needed. read more

Rockstar Professionals and Awesome Service! I am so happy to have finally found a hair professional who helped me achieve the haircut and color I have been wanting for a very long time. I showed a picture to Cris and she did exactly what I asked. She also gave me great tips on styling and listened to me. I am so happy and relieved to find Cris. Given the multi-locations and multi-techs it took awhile to book a time that suited me. I did think they are overpriced compared to other nail salons. I had a very pleasant experience in person. I walked in and checked in on the tablet, making it very easy. I used the restroom and saw a coffee/cocktail bar that surprised me a bit. I did get a glass of water at the self-serve desk by the entrance. I sat in a comfortable chair and when my tech was ready, I was seated at her station. Great pedi and I liked Selma who wasn't pressured to make conversation. I'm good with quiet. She put me at a different seat to use the nail dryer. My toes look great. After the pedi and as I was being moved, I accidently knocked my water glass off the side of the chair. It broke and made a mess. They didn't yell at me. I felt bad, but someone quickly arrived with a broom and dustpan. At the check out desk, I was informed I got 25% off as it was my first visit. Yay! I used my giftcard and have $ leftover. They expect cash tips so I put $ in an envelope for Selma. It is a very pretty salon and I would recommend it for a first timer.

The shop was filled with little girls, so I was very surprised and uncomfortable with the music being played. The music was completely inappropriate for a business setting, especially one hosting an event for children. When I asked a staff member if they could change or turn off the music, her response was, "No one has complained all day." I was honestly floored by that response. I explained that I did not want my children listening to that type of music. She eventually spoke with the other staff members and changed the station, but the replacement music was still not appropriate for the setting. As a parent, I should not have to ask a business hosting a back-to-school event for children to play appropriate music. Unfortunately, I will not be returning, and I would strongly recommend that parents consider this before bringing their children here. if I could give this business a 0 star rating I would.

As a result, I've had appointments with many of the women here and they all have done a fantastic job. The usual visit goes: I do a terrible job explaining what I want exactly (usually accompanied by a picture or two), they somehow decipher it and make their own suggestions, and I walk out loving my new color (and cut but I usually just trim a couple inches so nothing special there). Everyone's super nice and they're good at reading whether or not I want to chat or just have an hour or two of relative silence/escape from my hectic life. They also always suggest cheaper ways of doing what I want and I'm grateful for that (and it always looks amazing). They also always take into account my infrequency of visits and suggest things that will take less upkeep which is also appreciated. Picture is just the most recent haircut and color; sorry it's just half my hair but it might give you an idea! The only problem is that parking is a nightmare in the area. There are usually some free meters in the area (try a street down from the salon, next to the UDF) but if you're getting something that might take more than two hours, those two hour meters aren't super helpful.
