I have never used People Choice before but I had 2 appliance concerns and Corbett addressed the first one mainly by educating me about how my dryer settings were working within normal limits as he used the temperature meter to show me. (I thought my medium setting was too hot). So no repair was needed. My 2nd concern was my gas stove that I often smell gas around. He was very thorough as we took the drawers under the stove out and he found a gas leak with his gas detector. Then he used some soapy stuff to determine the exact location of the leak and repaired it! I have been dealing with this installation leak for 2 1/2 years but nobody else could smell it. An overdue thank you for great service on December 3, 2024. My dryer had quit working and I was hoping, for so many reasons, that a repair rather than replacement would be possible. The first two local businesses I contacted declined to even consider the job, as they don't make repairs on stackable washer/dryers, so I was feeling discouraged. Thank goodness, the next place I called (next time they will be first!) was People's Choice. The dryer was successfully repaired quickly and efficiently and for a reasonable price. The friendly repair person went above and beyond by giving the appliance a full cleaning and even checked to make sure the outside vent wasn't clogged. I keep returning to Peoples Choice to keep my washing machine running and not having to replace it. This time it was the drainage pump which went out on a Saturday (and we had out of town visitors staying). I called for an appointment Monday morning and the next available was Friday. Kelly said she would put me on standby with the cancellation list and sure enough, Tuesday morning she called, and by Tuesday afternoon I had Corbett arrive, diagnose the problem, order the new pump, and today, Friday, same week, Kelly called again, Corbett arrived, installed the pump and put me back in business. My 16 year old dryer wasn't working properly. They came out, ordered a special part, and completed the installation. The repair didn't fix thee we problem. You might wonder why a 5 star rating. Well, they came out again, tried to diagnose the problem, worked with the manufacturer, and came to the conclusion that it was a very rare problem, an expensive one. What impressed me was the amount of time he spent trying to fix it. Turns out I had to buy a new dryer, but they refunded me the repair cost, and the cost of the party they installed. They responded quickly and communicated effectively, even asking for a photo to be texted so they could look at the part and save us a service trip! Wow. We have a Dacor 48" refrigerator that has had a lot of issues, including a defective design. I phoned People's Choice and they sent out a repairman who diagnosed the problem and once the replacement part came in, was able to repair our refrigerator. We've had People's Choice do repairs for us in the past as part of our home extended warranty. They have been who insurance chooses for us: we have told insurance to never send them to our house ever again. The week before Thanksgiving our dishwasher stopped working. It acted like it ran but the dishes were still dirty and it didn't drain the water out of the inside. So insurance sent People's Choice. First visit, they weren't sure what was wrong and guessed that it might be a switch that was bad. They come back after getting insurance authorization and the part in, for the second visit, and it still doesn't work. So he guesses that it might be the pump. A couple weeks later, after insurance authorization again for another major part, he installs it and says the washer is working and leaves. We run a load and it still is doing the same thing. The water is still in the bottom and dirty dishes. It's now the New Year and insurance is impatient with People's Choice inability to fix it and it taking almost two months - through the holidays. At this point, we had some pretty contentious back-and-forth with People's Choice over the phone, with them then threatening to tell the insurance company that it's rats that chewed wires so the insurance company would drop it and not cover the repair. (There has been a rat under there months and months ago that was killed in a trap. Long before the washer died. But they threatened to tell the insurance it was rats because we were getting frustrated with them, their guesswork and taking so long.) So we call insurance, tell them everything including People's Choice's threats about rats, and to send someone else out. They are shocked and oblige without hesitation. New repair guy comes, checks the drain hose and it was plugged with calcium deposits and some food. That's it. Just a plugged hose! Fixes and working in about 15 minutes. And People's Choice never bothered check to that. The second repair company says that is the first thing you check and couldn't understand why People's Choice would not bother to check the obvious and keep billing insurance for major parts over and over. As they just guess at what it could be. So be very wary! Or go with someone else and don't take chances. read more

You pay $89 to make and confirm a repair appointment but that is deducted from the repair bill if it exceeds $89. I got an appointment with a two-hour window for the next day. Kyron arrived early (when does that ever happen!?) and diagnosed the rattling noise in my refrigerator right away. He fixed the problem in 10 minutes. He was friendly, professional and efficient! I've used this company on and off for many years, and have always been satisfied with the techs. The last time I called, the gruff, snarly woman on the other end of the phone went out of her way to make me feel like an idiot for asking questions. I described two or three things that I wanted looked at and she gave me absolutely no direction whatsoever. She wouldn't even tell me if my problems were something they can fix. "Do you want me to have the tech call you on Monday so you can ask them?" (Wow, that's helpful.) Honestly, I felt like she was trying to send me to another repair company. I'm happy to oblige her. It's not easy to find quality, intelligent craftsman like Leo and he and his apprentice performed some serious troubleshooting quickly and efficiently. We found a crack in an elbow fitting on an ice maker line. Because it could be a bad design or materials, they also replaced the drinking water line and, what do you know?! We found another crack that had not started leaking yet. This simple foresight prevented a second leak and a second repair call. A+ guys. read more

I own a home in SLO that I rent to students, and I take maintenance seriously. One of the tenants texted me that the washer wasn't working, so I called a place a local recommended (not People's Choice). Three calls to voicemail during normal business hours were not returned, so I looked on Yelp and found People's Choice. Got VM there too, but they returned my call within 10 minutes and took my tenant's contact info so they could coordinate with him. They showed up on time and fixed the problem at a reasonable price. Excellent service! Had a Kitchen Aid wall oven lose its mind and give odd error codes. Joe from People's Choice competently and carefully worked through the issue. Escalated incrementally from the less costly possible failed part to the eventual control board replacement. Point being that Joe didn't jump immediately to the "let's replace everything just in case" mode. It turned out to be the $300 control board and not the $40 socket, but Joe arrived at that conclusion methodically. Felt the $89 diagnosis charge (credited to any eventual repair) was fair. Overall repair cost seemed quite reasonable relative to the cost of replacing the 5 year old oven. read more

The freezer in our refrigerator stopped working. I looked up appliance repair in Yelp and saw Peoples Choice as the highest rated company with consistently high reviews so I gave them a ring. I had to leave a voice message, but they called me back within an hour to setup an appointment. Leo, the repairman they sent over, was professional, courteous, knowledgeable, thorough and fast-working. You can't really get any better than that. Not only did he diagnose and repair the problem, he also laid out a follow-up plan detailing what to keep an eye on and what future costs might be incurred given multiple paths. Just as a follow up review. My previous review complained about what I felt was overcharging not only for labor, but for the part, on a dishwasher repair. Fast forward not even one year and guess what, the dishwasher was broken again. My property manager contacted them and they installed a new dishwasher only giving us a partial credit for the initial repair gone bad. Assuming it was a policy to only refund either the part, or the labor. Since I don't have all the numbers in front of me I can't say for sure. So basically was overcharged the first time, the repair didn't fix it and I ended up having to just replace the dishwasher. Look, maybe it was a bad dishwasher (or maybe the initial repair never fixed it?), but I have a hard time giving this company the benefit of the doubt for how much they charged for the initial repair. Use caution, verify the amounts they want to charge for parts and labor before you agree to anything. read more

I have a lot of anxiety about doing things remotely, because I am not there to make sure things go smoothly. People's Choice handled this repair perfectly. Ron, one of the owners, came out and looked at our forced air heating unit. The gas company told us that the unit was an old recalled unit that needed to be replaced, and that it would cost us about $2000. Ron could have easily sold us a new unit, but, instead, he let us know this unit was NOT on the recall list. He inspected and tested it, and said it was still very sound. He is not only knowledgeable, but honest. When do you ever see that in an appliance or heating/air conditioning company? These guys get 5 stars, hands down!!! read more

The absolute worst repair/ customer service experience ever. 6 weeks and my washing machine is still not fixed. A simple repair that a competent technician could have diagnosed & fixed in an hour. Unfortunately this technician was far from competent. Took hours to figure it out. Had to order a part. After two weeks of waiting & then several hours trying to repair realized he had the wrong part & oh it is back ordered. Waited three weeks without hearing anything. Left a message a week ago with no response. Called again today. Was put on hold for 3.5 minutes. When I explained the situation she insisted she scheduled the repair between 3-5 today. I told her she did not talk to me or send an email. She insisted that she spoke with me. I told her to pull up the record. Oops she said I have a note asking the technician why it isn't fixed. Meanwhile nonstop children screaming in the background on her end of the phone. The lack of professionalism is astounding. I do not recommend. read more

We've had people's choice look at a problem with our gas stove, and most recently, they came to look into a noise our dryer was making. Both problems were fixed quickly and for a VERY reasonable rate. The morning I called to see if someone could come fix the dryer, they came within an hour! And everyone I've dealt with through this company has been very friendly, prompt, and trustworthy. I wouldn't have anyone else out to do anything People's Choice could do. I think People's Choice is a reliable service and is fully competent and reliable. My primary problem is the price charged for a simple job that took 10 minutes at most. Our dryer was missing the magnet latch that keeps the door shut. The kit cost $13 and labor came to a shocking $122 for the 10 minutes spent there -effectively over $700 an hour. I probably should have asked about the labor cost in advance so that is my fault. However I still think the amount charged was excessive. When I called to talk to the manager he insisted that to pay fair wages, provide healthcare etc, that is what it costs to get a repairman to your door. He was less willing to discuss his profit margin. I think it strange that I can fly from SFO to LAX for the cost of a 10 minute simple repair. read more
