I've been to 3 pep boys in my life, and i hate to say that i have had the worst experience with all 3.this time, the one here in athens, my car turns over but won't start, so i called them to see what i should do, they say have it towed here, and we can do a crank no start diagnostic test, for $89.99. not having any other choice i said go ahead. they called me in 2 hours and said its your fuelpump. i said okay go ahead and fix it. he told me it will cost $500. i paid the next day and to pick up my car, and my car was doing the same thing. cranking no start. long story short. the got me for mymoney and i was pissed i called corporate and got my money back. but i will never go back again. they are dishonest and they take advantage of women. read more

All I needed was an a-14 bearing that fits nearly every utility/small boat trailer made. I am sure they had the part as Autozone and Advance both had them in stock. I have been to several auto-repair stores over the past years, but I have never had help that made my visit so easy before. I needed an oil change and diagnostic service for a, "service engine soon," light, and the people were considerate and informative every step of the way, especially for someone who doesn't know a lot about cars. Even when they made an error and I had to wait for someone to arrive to fix my engine problem, they immediately dropped the $45 charge for the diagnosis as an apology. They were helpful, kind, relaxed, and let me know what they were doing every step of the way, and I will be going back the very next time I need help. read more

I am very disappointed with the service here. I had an appointment at 4:00 and they were not finished with a simple oil change until 5:30. Then, I was told my car took a "special kind of oil" and they couldn't charge me for a normal oil change. It ended up being $40, when I was originally told it was $20. Employees seemed lazy and did not portray themselves as being eager to work. I wish I would have went to a local business because it would have ended up being the same price. They go by the manufacturer book for shop hours to charge you. They were going to make me pay $200 to get my front blinker light changed because the manufacturer book said to take off my wheel bearing. I looked up how to do it on YouTube, to show them it takes 5 minutes and that you don't need to do that and they refused. I found a good guy friend to do it, and it was done in 10 minutes, for the cost of the bulb. They aren't worth it. read more

I was employed by Pep Boys for the past 12 years. I was fired on Thursday April 26 2012! I have been through all training offered. Even when I was asked to leave my family (3 kids and husband) to go to training in Miami 3 seperate times. When the store manager was fried I ran the store with no compinsation. The stoe manager job was offered to me with a $25.00 a week raise. Which was a slap in the face seeing I had been doing this job for the previous 4 years for a store manager who didn't know or even try to do his job but was being paid almost twice what I was making! The area director gave the job to the service manager who was offered over 3 times what I was making yet he didn't know how to do the job either. I was never informed that the job was given to someone else seeing I was told by the area director that he would talk to someone in HR about getting me more money for that position. I was basicly fired for doing my job and doing it by the book! My husband has his own business and he wanted to do business with the company I worked for. He signed up for a REWARDS card for his company (which is ok). He passed several other parts stores to spend his money at Pep Boys. If he bought something for personal use he would get the employee discount (which is ok). When my husband would send his employees in to shop at Pep Boys they would use my husbands companys REWARDS card. And when the gift cards came in my husband would use them as rewards for his employees. And that is ok too! Pep Boys can't understand how an owner and employees can work as a team! I was fired for checking out my husband somrthing that was ok when I was hired 12 years ago and after all the training this has never been brought up as a problem. I know that every person I have ever worked with has checked out a family member. Did they get fired? NO! If this is a rule Pep Boys would have no employees! Did I get a warning? NO! I have also never been written up! To make things worse I was never told the whole reason of why I was fired! This is what the area director told me! This has effected my life, my childrens lives, my husbands life! I thought Pep Boys was a good company to work for and was doing everything I could to advance in the company! They have proved they are a terrible company to work for, and do business with! They not only lost an employee who put her heart and soul into making this a better company! They have lost thousands of dollars that would have been spent there! I was born and raised in the Athens area and tons of people came to Pep Boys cause of me and my family! Pep Boys in Athens, GA is a joke...Our car broke down in the mall parking lot adjacent to the Pep Boys this past Sunday so my husband had a friend pull our car over to them for repair. Turns out it needed a starter. The guy at the counter (Tim) quoted us one for $185 for a new one bc they had no rebuilt ones in stock, we agreed and when he called us to pick the car up 3 hrs later it turned into $225...then their was a Prostart Starting/Charging Sytstem Evaluation fee, $16.99 $99 remove/replace starter assembly charge, $14.85 "limited extended labor warranty" charge and $27.02 "shop fee"...for a grand total with taxes of $400.13!!! When I called the same Pep Boys the next day (less than 16 hrs later) and asked for the price of a starter for my car they had a rebuilt one in stock for $118.99 and core charge of $30.00 and a new one for $186.00 core charge of $30.00...they told me the day before they didn't have a rebuilt one in stock a then over charged me by $30 on a brand new one and hit me with some ridiculous fees to top it off. My husband did manage to get back $54 on his way home today but was asked to leave the store by the manager and wasn't given an explanation as to why we were charged for a new one when a rebuilt one was in stock. We moved to Athens from Chicago where I originally purchased my tires with extended warrantee, one of my tires started to leak air so I decided to enact the powers of paying for an extended warranty. The pep boys in Chicago always provides exceptional service. The Athens pep boys however is forgettable and should be avoided at all costs. I called to make an appointment after retrieving the records needed for warranty service. The gentleman in Chicago I spoke with let me know that the pep boys here in Athens should have called them directly but that's beside the point. I made an appointment for 11:30am and dropped off at 11:20am at 12:45pm of waiting I checked in to find that NO work had been done to my vehicle. This is a complete disregard for my time and unprofessional. If they told me when I walked in what he situation was I would have come back later.... Not that it would have mattered because they clearly have no idea how to calculate scheduling. In the end I got out of there at 3:10 but was they made sure to compensate me for my time by charging me very little for a brand new tire. THANK YOU!! read more

First off, one of the ONLY places in Athens that you can get work done on your car on a Sunday - I stopped at three other places that were closed, or did not have a mechanic in(?). I had looked online and the fix for my brakes looked like it was going to be between $150 and $200, so when I was initially told that it would probably be about $120 by a Pep Boys associate, I was still pleased that it was already cheaper than I had planned. When I went to pay for the work, after only waiting about 45 minutes - even though they were clearly pretty busy - I was told that it would only be $50 and that it was an easier fix than they had planned. So, all in all, only place open, did the work for a quarter of the price I had expected, and had it done quickly. I will definitely be returning to Pep Boys for any auto needs I may have. read more

I took my truck here last week when the AC stopped blowing cold air. I was told two hoses were leaking and quoted $850 to replace the hoses and freon, but that didn't include the parts because they had to wait until the next day to get them from GMC. I said thank you but no and picked up my truck. I took my truck to a privately owned shop in town where they replaced the parts, refilled the freon, AND changed my oil for $187. There is no reason for such a huge discrepancy in cost except shady business practices. I will never be using Pep Boys again. read more

I was visiting Athens. On the way back from dinner Friday evening the dashboard tire light came on. Pep Boys was close to my hotel so I called them first thing Saturday morning, knowing I had a 650 mile drive ahead if me. I was told to bring it right in. The car was checked within a few minutes of my arrival, problem with sensor identified, and I was on my way within an hour. Very quick and accommodating service. read more

I went into this Pep Boys after a drive to visit family. My brakes were grinding and they told me I needed to change my brake pads. After they were done, I paid $254 and went on my way. Less than 2 months later, I took my car into a Meineke here where I live in Texas. I needed an oil change and new air filters and told them that while they were at it to check my brakes because they were grinding. Sure enough, my rotors needed to be resurfaced. After I paid to resurface them (because I am moving out of state in 3 days and we do not have a pep boys in my town) I called the this pep boys and told them what was going on. Both managers were extremely rude to me saying they can "assure" it got done, even though the actual tech that worked on my car was not even in that day. They then went on to be condescending and saying that this was like if I bought a fridge at sears and took it to home depot and expected them to honor the sears warranty. Then told me that brake rotors can be warped by the rain in a very short amount of time. Which I live in West Texas, it DOESNT rain here. They continued to try to discredit the Meineke I took it to saying that they not only overcharged me to resurface my rotors but they may have just been trying to overcharge me by saying they did something when they didn't. At the end they said there was nothing they could do unless I took it to another pep boys and had them assess the problem (which there wouldn't be one because I already got the problem fixed by another company). I am not trying to bad mouth the actual "master technician" they said worked on my car. But having a family owned service company, I understand that sometimes even the people that have been there the longest make mistakes and forget to do even the most routine tasks. If this is a charge of the basic brake change like they stated, then sometimes things get overlooked when they are automatically entered in the computer. I am extremely disappointed in the customer service from this business. I am a person that knows nothing about cars, but I am also a student paying my way through college. Knowing nothing about cars, when I take it to a company like this, I expect things to be done right the first time. This was a very large, unexpected expense that I had no problem paying for until I found out the job was not done right the first time. I will NEVER be going back to another pep boys, and I would not recommend them to anyone looking for good customer service and a job done right. read more

Terrible. After making an appointment online it still didn't matter to them. They go first come first serve. It took over 2 hours after my appointment time for pep boys to even start working on my vehicle. All I had done was my tires rotated and balanced. I had my 2006 Infiniti FX35 brought in to have the oil changed and tires rotated on 07/01/2014. After having noticed severe shaking and shuttering in the vehicles ride, I took my vehicle to be serviced by my usual mechanic on 08/27/14, where he discovered that the technician who performed the service at your Athens Pepe Boys not only failed to balance the tires properly but he also put all the lug nuts on backwards on the back passenger wheel. This has caused the entire wheel barring to go out which I now having to pay $400.00 to have replaced. Not to mention the safety issue that my wheel could have possibly fallen off my vehicle. The craftsmanship and knowledge of your "technicians" is not only sad, it is scary. I can promise that my car will never set foot in a Pep Boys again!!! read more

The most dishonest shop on the planet! My car was overheating, so I has it towed here. The following day, I was told I needed a new water pump, and that my radiator was "melted" and that it would cost 1300 to fix. This place is a disaster. I drove from another state and my car died when I arrived to athens. Took it in, they ran a starter system diagnostic and everything checked out so they called me and said everything is fine. I pick it up the next day and it died right when I pulled out of the lot. Had it towed back, and waited over a day before they even called me back with information. They said it was a bad sensor, fixed it for $120, and told me that I shouldn't have anymore problems. What do you know, the next day it died again. So I took it somewhere else. Not only are they incompetent, but the customer service was atrocious. NEVER GO HERE. These people here are liars and scumbags. On two different occasions I bought my car here to get looked at Pep-Boys recommended that I get specific work done to my car. I told them that I wanted a second opinion, and of course they tried to dissuade me from getting one. Both times that I went to get a second opinion the problems that my car was experiencing were most lesser then Pep-Boys had said. Pep-Boys doesn't care about customer service they prey on the customers who they think are not knowledgeable about cars. So, when you bring your cars in they will lie to you about what is wrong with it in an attempt to get you to spend more money. They will also play this game where they act like they are really concerned about you in order to convince you to adhere to what they say and therefore spend money that you don't need to spend. read more
