Pepboys turned what could have been a very difficult night into a really positive experience. On a wet slushy evening at 6pm, once again the plastic engine shield under my Honda Civic broke apart and was seriously scaping the pavement as I tried to drive the 15 miles to my house. I went to a couple of service stations that had no one on site at the time and the last one said, "You need to go to Pepboys; they're open until 8 or 9 pm. They'll be able to help you." And help me they did, after a short wait, Beverly Courmier got me setup and said it would be a little while until a mechanic could get to it. I went to the waiting area thinking they would just cut the plastic off, and I was starting to think about how expensive it was the last time I had to have this shield replaced and installed. Bev ask her supervisor what to charge me and he said, "same as a tire rotation." After a little while Bev came and found me and said she thought I might like to see what they were doing... she said she didn't think I was going to need a new shield after Jeff Studebaker got done with his magic. I was amazed. The underside of my car looked like it was brand new. You couldn't even tell there had been a problem. Jeff had it all "stitched" back together with plastic ties he was just cutting the ends off. He'd also gotten by front end back on after all the dragging had pulled it loose. After asking them to check my tire pressure, I asked Bev what the total would be. "Oh, there isn't any charge" she said, "and I'm giving you a Pepboys auto rewards card too and its all registered for you" Well, that means in addition to earning reward points, I can come in any time for a free tire rotation, flat tire repair, brake check, and I get a towing discount. I asked if I could tip Jeff, (he had worked on the car for at least 45 minutes) and she said, "Absolutely not -- it's against company policy." This was such a positive experience on a night when I really wondered how I was going to make it home. Many thanks Bev and Jeff for taking such good care of me and my civic! This pep boys is a stereotypical garage. I went to get an oil change and get my check engine light diagnosed. After waiting for an hour on of the employees comes up to me and hands me an estimate of $1500.00 for all the fixes I need...I was obviously shocked and could not afford that work. So I asked how much I owed for the check up and oil change and it was almost one hundred dollars. These people try and buy every expensive part which is not needed in order to give you "the best fix" but this was totally ridiculous. I went to another garage and they did my repairs for under $400.00 and faster than pep boys ever could. I would not recommend getting work done at this garage they will try to screw you over how ever they can. One employee kept saying "I live in the real world I know how this can feel" when really he was trying to just make a commission on the estimate. These employees don't care about you or your car they just want to make extra money. I even heard the employee say to another employee that he was "pissed" he wasn't going to get his "sweet ass" commission on this one. I will never take my business to them ever again. And I warn any others to never take your car there even if you just need an oil change because their oil changes are priced at $39.99 which is just ridiculous. This pep boys is a real tribute to a stereotypical garage that just wants your money for useless work. Never go there, for anything. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THEM! YOU WILL BE SCAMMED! My van was taken in on 4/28/2025 for the ac not blowing cold air. I picked up the vehicle on may 3rd 2025. They claimed to have to do a diagnostics and recharge if no issues were found with the system. They did not do this diagnostics and did not properly look at the vehicle. three weeks later, i am having the same issue, ac is not blowing cold air. They did not fix the issue, but charged me $327.28 I took the van to another mechanic and they are stating there is an the coolant is empty and that pep boys did not diagnose and did not fix, however, they felt inclined to charge me for recharging and diagnostics that they did not complete. Now i cannot use the van to pick up my two kids (1 year old and 3 year old) because there is no ac and i cannot have them ride is 100 degree weather with no ac in a van where the windows in the back do not open. I want my money back $327.28 because they did nothing to my van to fix the problem, i had to take it to another mechanic, and i cannot use my van! This is absolute fraud and stealing from the customer. BBB complaint filed for the fraudulent activity. read more

Most of the time I don't write reviews for any business in business for a profit, but the service a greetings we received at the Pep Boys in Frederick Maryland deserves accolades for the atmosphere they have created. It is like they 'want to be there, and want you to come there', so they can help you. For the HR Staff/ Management - whatever it is that you have done to make the "'Superstar' employees" Christine, and Jessica (Service Writer ready to meet the scheduling challenges during the winter weather months), keep it up and please make it the standard way to do business! Not only will I come back to you establishment, but I will spread 'the good thing I found' like 'wildfire'. I might even break things just so I have an excuse to go there again. Kudos! I can't say enough about the gentlemen who worked the counter on July 29th in the auto service department at PepBoys. They were polite and greeted me when I walked indoors. I especially want to thank Carl for his truthfulness and honesty. It's nice to know that truthfulness and honesty still exist today because most people have the fear that they are going to be taken advantage of because that is how most business' are conducted today; it's all about getting every $$$ you can get whether the customer needs it or not. But, because of Carl's integrity I hope that other employees will learn by his example and that this review will generate more business for PepBoys. I will definitely be bring my business to CARL. Had to purchase two tires for my Kia Rondo, after having flat yesterday. Checked out options online and found several coupons that would save me money. I drive over to the Frederick location, was met by Carl, and was able to get the tires that I found online and was told that it would be about 45mins to an hour. I went out and got some breakfast, came back and Carl called me, said car was ready. At check out the coupons were applied and I saved more than I expected! Carl was outstanding, smiled through the entire transaction.I will be back for two more tires and brakes when they are needed! Keep up the great work!!! read more

I've never taken time to write on yelp before, but the guys at Pep Boys in Frederick deserve one - I recently suffered a flat tire on a tire I had JUST bought from Pep Boys in October - needless to say I was not happy about having to buy a brand new tire, but when the service was completed and I went to pay, they said -IT'S FREE - because I had bought their insurance plan or something that you get when you buy tires from them. So, in October I must have bought their protection plan and wow, what a deal! You just never know....I am very grateful to them! Thanks!! read more

I love this store! We use them regularly now because they are always polite and helpful. If they don't have what we need then they find it for us. They are always attentive to our needs and go out of their way to see to it we leave happy. Great employees who are always swamped and working double-time to attend to every one, whether in person or over the phone. It must be stressful but they handle it like professionals. Needed to have a brake controller installed on my pickup truck. Called Pep Boys and the person on the line was unfriendly, and refused to give an estimate, said "we need to get it in and look at it before we can generate a quote" This isn't a repair, this is a stock install, there's nothing unusual about it. I had a flat tire right before I had to go to work today and I went in to pep boys to get one tire I walked out with 4 new tires and I didn't have to pay much because of there credit system. A Great experience! I needed new headlight bulbs and some oil so I went to Pep Boys. They took me to the headlights to show me the different options while the manager went and got me some oil and a funnel. They were warm and friendly and quickly got me everything I needed. I came in here around Christmas time to pick up some antifreeze. The had a nice selection of antifreeze. The only problem was waiting for a store associate to ring me up. I waited almost 10 minutes. The store didnt seem busy enough for such a long wait. read more
