Poor management. Less than a month ago I purchased a set of new tires at this Pep Boys location on May 22, 2023. Total price paid $679.14. Today June 18th I have 2 tires which were low. After arriving at Pep Boys and having them checked out. The mechanic said one of the tires had a screw in the sidewall and wasn't repairable. So after speaking with the manager I went ahead and agreed to a replacement tire. Total price $131.34. I'm standing outside the bay when the mechanic then asks about the wheel lock. He still couldn't find it even though I said twice it was in the glove compartment. Then he lets me into the Bay Area to retrieve the wheel lock. Then I thought to take a picture of my low tire. After standing there for awhile I noticed there was a large screw laying in the parking lot right in front of the Bay Area. A few minutes later out comes the manager and asks why I'm taking a picture of her mechanic. I let her know I did not take a picture of her mechanic. I took a picture of my tire and also the screw laying in front of the bay. Also, I said to her I'm too old to be looking at young boys. Really she thinks a 50 something is after a teenager or 20 something. Get real. When I asked for corporate's phone number she said 1-800- Pep Boys. No one answered. We have been going to this shop for about 17 years and they never cease to amaze me! My collage son really needed new tires and looked at several tire places to fit his collage budget. At my suggestion he went to the Market Place Pep Boys and spoke with Dwayt. Not only did they beat everyone else's prices, they got the set of 4 new tires on in record time, I'm talking about 25 minutes. Beware. After taking my vehicle in for service, I was not only double charged for certain things but I was charged for things that they didn't do, which I found out after my vehicle broke down again and I took it to a different local mechanic. Had all the paperwork, had all the receipts, all the date and times and when I called corporate to discuss the situation with them they had the manager of the shop call me. After spending over an hour and a half on the phone with him and going over the service paperwork, he acknowledged their mistake and assured me that he would get back with me for a refund by the end of business the next day. Of course that did not happen and for the last two months I have been trying to get the local store or corporate to contact me. Every time I speak with someone at corporate they tell me that they are escalating it to a manager and that they will call me within a certain amount of time. I have yet to get a phone call, and I filed the first complaint on 6-10-24. When I call the customer service number for the corporate headquarters, they absolutely will not allow anyone to speak to a manager with the authority to handle the situation or answer questions about how the situation can be dealt with. I was told by an operator that answers their corporate customer service phone calls that there is no other recourse then to wait for them to call or file a lawsuit... He literally told me that there is no in-between. After dealing with them for this long, I'm starting to believe that that's the truth. read more

Came in for break service with an appointment. I was 25 minutes early and was still waiting for estimate of what was needed and price over an hour. When i was given price it was totally overpriced and gouging me. Came back an hour later still on lift with no one working on it. When I asked what was going on he said they were waiting on rotors and said he just called and rhey would be here in 5 minutes. They were getting parts from Nappa. So unhappy with the price of parts i looked on website and the upcharge on the rotors was unbelievable. If I wasnt leaving town next day I wouldve told them to put the wheels back on and taken it elsewhere. I will never go back to the Centline location in Knoxville again and will tell everyone I know to not go there either. Took car in for tire rotation and oil change 9/29/23. Husband checked the dipstick and oil was over filled. So he was letting oil out to get it to correct level when the oil came out it was dirty!!!! Called to talk to manager after being placed on hold forever Joe came on said the video shows it being changed. Did not care that he was told how dirty the oil was that came out. It obviously was only topped off and topped off too much. Said we would need to bring vehicle in to prove it. And that we needed to watch the video. I'm not driving there with the oil that was drained out due to their incompetence. May be one of the worst experiences ever at an automotive shop. They had the truck for a month to replace a TPC. They fried the CPU in the process. After a month, they called to say it was ready. If you bring your vehicle here be mindful. They were obnoxiously rude from the moment i walked in the door. Without going into too much detail, I had several issues with them when i took my vehicle here for service. Let's just say that no one in customer service should "whatever" a client under their breath as you walk away and leave it at that. Fast forward a day after I got my vehicle back, I kept hearing a weird rattling sound. I went and looked and all the bolts for my splash pan/skid plate were loose and had not been re tightened. Several were sticking out significantly, one was completely missing. When i took it back the following day to have them correct their mistake, they starting making such a big deal of an entirely separate issue from my prior visit (one I hadn't even mentioned when I brought the car back). I had questions regarding the prior service but somehow, we just kept returning to this same thing that wasn't even a concern anymore but they felt compelled to just keep beating that horse. I even stated several times that's not why i was there, but still. Excuse after excuse. I finally just gave up because they were obviously butt hurt about it and needed to explain why. In the end, they wasted 3 hours of my time: Apparently the tech is really, REALLY thorough as i was told this over and over numerous times (just not so thorough as to make sure he tightens all the fucking bolts, huh). They couldn't adequately answer any of my real questions. They couldn't definitively determine the issue and honestly, I think the answer they did give was simply a case of "we couldn't find the problem anywhere else so it's probably this.." even though they couldn't find an issue there either (if they even looked as I'm not convinced they knew WHERE to look). They seemed far more inclined to make excuses for their behavior despite my apologizing for being keyed up the previous visit (which probably wouldn't have been the case if they hadn't yelled at me as soon as i walked in the door). The real bitch here is, in my aggravation at having to return, I ended up damaging the very same skid plate on their curb when I parked. So I never even bothered having them fix their fuck up. In a sense I suppose, it never would have happened had they done a complete and thorough job the first time around but oh well, c'est la vie. In essence, I just wouldn't trust this shop. After looking at other reviews, the common theme seems to be their lack of attention to detail (this isn't the first pan they have failed to properly reattach). If they can't remember the simplest thing like tightening the bolts on the very last thing they reassemble, what else do you think they neglected/forgot to do and just how thorough can they be?? As a side note, other Pep Boys locations I have visited have been extremely helpful and professional. Maybe the bar was set too high for this location to live up to. read more

I took my car in for an oil change and when I got home I realized there was grease or dirt stained into the passenger seat. I called around and found 2 other auto care places that said that replacing those sensors should cost less than 250$. I paid the 100$ for Pep Boys because it was required since they looked at my car and I took my car to another place. They replaced the sensors and fixed my car in about an hour. Over all it cost me 180$ to fix the car ignoring the 100$ I had to pay to Pep Boys. All I can say is if you are trying to charge 1300$ to your customers for a job that costs you less than 100$ you are scumbags. I will never return nor would I recommend anyone. read more

Went in at specified time and got the tires and an oil change while I was there. The tires ended up being $90 more than the price online, and during the oil change, they added no fluid to the window washer reservoir. Leaves me wondering what else they didn't do... Tire had a slow leak so I took car to Centerline Drive store 4770. After two hours they called to say that the tires were dry-rotted so they wouldn't fix the leak, but would sell me some new tires. (The ties are new and NOT dry-rotted) Also said I needed and oil change and anti-freeze change. They were able to take care of me right away. I explained what was going on with the car to Thaddeus. He offered very helpful opinions and discussed the problem with the tech, Jammie, who later took me back into the work area and pointed out my issues. The car was fixed quickly. Also I want to say that Thaddeus was extremely helpful in finding the right solution to fit my budget. on friday i took my truck to this pep boys because i had a piston misfiring in my engine. I knew this because i went to and Advanced Auto Parts to get a FREE diagnostics test done on it. when i got to pep boys i told them that I had done that and what was wrong with my truck. I go through the whole weekend without my truck, so on monday I called to ask when it would be done. They had not even looked at it. It took me calling them asking about my truck for them to even acknowledge the fact that I had brought my truck there. they said that after they had ran THEIR OWN diagnostics test (which conveniently costs $100 more than the free one I got on friday) they told me i needed 2 spark plugs replaced. i already knew that of course and asked what the price would be. after labor and 2 new spark plugs... $650!!!!! That is outrageous. I told them to just put a hold on it for now as i had to sort some things out. i called them back 20 minutes later to let them know that I was going to pick it up because "I was not going to pay $650 for 2 spark plugs." after this I get smart ass comment saying, "well actually you need all of them replaced." bare in mind, getting all of them replaced should still not cost anywhere near that price. so I went and picked up my truck and lost $120 ($100 for the diagnostics test and $10 for a "shop fee"?? and tax). I used to try to find the cheapest off the beaten road mechanics, the one day I tried pep boys - I gotta say when they repair your car they repair it correctly. I always have the fullest confidence I their workmanship. Are they the cheapest in town, probably not, but they are the best. If you like to save $$ then get a quote from another place and these guys at Pepe boys will match it or beat it. I did that with a set of tires and it worked l. Lastly all the parts that pep boys install are warrantied - I had a front strut bar installed had some issues with it almost a year later- they replaced no questions asked. I had a bad experience here as a result of them making an easily avoidable mistake, but they ultimately made things right without me having to make too big a big fuss, so I have to give them some credit! I ordered a battery for my Prius via their website, ordering the one recommended (and that I was pretty certain was correct based on my own independent research), and I chose their free in store installation option. During the install one of the mechanics found me & said the battery I ordered didn't fit my car & would need to buy some different clamps. I was pretty certain this was wrong & said I'd ordered the one the website said fit my car, but ultimately agreed to buy the clamps. When I got home, I looked & immediately realized they'd installed a different battery than the one I'd ordered- it had a similar size code, but was a different type of battery (normal non-sealed lead acid battery, vs a sealed AGM battery that is required for safety reasons since its mounted inside the passenger compartment), had different sized posts (hence the new clamps), and when I looked it up was a somewhat drastically cheaper price. I'm pretty certain it was an innocent mistake, as the one I ordered was kept in a different area of the store than most of their batteries...but when you have a part # & upc that doesn't match at all, it seems like you should keep looking instead of just picking one that's kinda similar. I called, they said to bring it back in & they'd take care of it. Ultimately, they had to order a part from Toyota since they'd cut one of the cables to put the new clamps on it (luckily I'd kept the other one, which they were able to reuse), so I had to come back in a THIRD time once it arrived, but they did ultimately fix things & refund me for the clamps. (Though they did apparently short out the the battery enough to melt part of one of the posts...which is a pretty amateur mistake for a car repair place). ALSO- I had ordered a 2nd battery for another car (that I chose to just install myself)...I went to pick it up (it WAS the correct battery) & they gave it to me to take. It wasn't until I brought an old battery back to refund the core charge that they asked me to pay, rather than refunded me the core charge...apparently it had never been recorded as being picked up, so I'd never been charged in the 1st place! Ultimately, they ended up being paid, and I ended up with my battery...but again...this seems like an amateur mistake to make on their part. read more

So I recently took a car in to get it fixed because it was having issues turning over. They told me it was the battery, okay cool. Replaced it well I drove it and it was acting weird and in my head I was like okay I need gas. it was fine, well drove it again and the car just turned off. It cranks but doesn't turn over. I had my vehicle in for rear drum brakes on feb 8 2020 and I was treated very well. The staff was very knowledgeable on the vehicles, and being a mechanic myself just not having the correct tools. They were able to help me get the brakes I desperately needed. I may have been there longer than what was quoted for the time the thought it would take but they kept me informed and were very reasonable with the pricing. If I could I would give it a ten out of ten. I would definitely recommend this shop to a friend in the future. Good people, reasonable pricing, and very skilled technicians. I would recommend more amenities for customers waiting, for instance maybe another vending machine for snacks and up grading the drink machine to a card reader for people who do not have cash. If you enjoy being over charged, this is the place for you. After receiving a quote of $1,700 to fix coupling in my power steering system and change my brakes, I took my car for a second opinion. The other shop charged me less than $200 to fix my brakes and told me the coupling was under warranty by the manufacturer. They printed off the sheet showing where the car was covered. This $1,700 bill is now $1,500 cheaper. On top of that, Pep Boys claimed this as a "safety issue" despite the actual warranty claim and manufacturers statement saying otherwise. Brought my car in to have TPMS replaced. After 2hrs I'm told that the sensors are in but they aren't working. The first guy said what do you want us to do, we put the sensors in. When I talk to the manager, Corey, he just says, yep we should have tested them first. Did nothing to help the situation just had me wait while they took the sensors out. Terrible customer service. While I was waiting I talked to a guy that had been in the waiting room for 9hrs, they quoted him a 4 hr wait. Save yourself and go to a real mechanic. I waited with my two kids for over 2.5 hrs for what I was told would be 45 minutes. UPDATE: took the car to Costco and they had the TPMS, the same ones I was told were broken, installed and working in less than an hour. Twice in less than 2 months picked up different cars and drove down the road less than half mile and cars presented issues. One was spark plug broken during an install. The other was after brand new tires the truck not turning to left. Both the technicians could have found with simple checks or small quarter of mile drive. Worst professionalism when it comes to owning up to their mistakes and management not following up on technicians work. I really wouldn't even give them one star. I left my car at Pep Boys to have a new air conditioning compressor installed. I had prepaid for this work knowing that I would be reimbursed by my insurance for most of the cost. Pep Boys was told to get the preauthorization from my ins. company before any work was done and not to do any work without that authorization. the service clerk agreed. I had a friend pick me up and take me to work, I came back after work and was told my car was all done but since I had prepaid the manager told the mechanics to go ahead and do the work and not call the insurance company. The manager never returned my call, the regional manager never returned my call, the corporate person I was told to call by Pep Boys consumer care complaint department never returned my call.
