PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLES TO THESE FOLKS. I set up an appointment last Saturday the 23rd to bring in two vehicles for tires. A classic 78 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and a 94 Toyota Hilux pickup. They were one of the few places that had the type and sizes I needed. I was told over the phone that the timeframe would be about 1-2 hours per vehicle. They recommended I stagger the vehicles so I wouldn't be without a car. I arrived before 10:30 and dropped the jeep. I was then told about two hours. I was reluctant, but the car needed tires and I would be strapped for time the following week so I left it. My wife was with me with my other vehicle so we did some necessary errands. The time went by and no call. Because we were a little remote and had poor cell service and the 2 hour window had elapsed I decided to come back. To my surprise the Jeep had not even been moved from its parking spot. When I asked they simply told me they were busy and it would be another 2-3 hours. We're up to 5 hours now for a job that had an appointment scheduled to take 1-2 hours tops. The Counterperson, John indicated they would take some money off for the inconvenience. I did not leave the truck at the appointment time It had obviously because I'd be completely without transportation and I had work to do requiring a vehicle. Around 2:30 I got the call the Jeep was ready. I swung by and swapped vehicles. While driving there was a scraping noise in the front right of the vehicle that worsened with braking. It got a little better with time, but I had to stick with work and couldn't return with the vehicle since my truck was now getting tires. It wasn't until 6:15, 45 minutes before they closed that I got the call the truck was ready. I picked it up and paid for it reluctantly. The only excuse I got was "we do things slower here in the south." in this case it was almost 8 hours to field replacement of 8 tires between two vehicles. The next day I took the jeep out to find the noise was now a loud grinding. I stopped, jacked the car up to find that some numbskull had placed the wheel weights on the wrong part of the rim and they had been grinding away on the brake caliper! Thankfully the soft lead weights didn't do any real damage, but they sure gouged the efff outa my wheel apparently getting old weights off. I repositioned the weights and cleaned up the wheel slightly. Remounted and now the noise was completely gone. HOW HARD WOULD IT HAVE BEEN TO ROTATE THE WHEEL WITH YOUR HANDS TO CHECK FOR CLEARNACE ISSUES? No way I would ever recommend this place to anyone. Been putting off writing this because it's going to be a bit long. I moved to Knoxville this year in the Spring and started taking my car here. Took it in and they did an oil change and on the inspection they said it needed new shocks and struts. My car went from driving fine before the visit to sounding like I'm driving over train tracks at all times afterwards. I brought the car back a couple months later to get the shocks replaced but held off on the struts. A couple months after that I brought my car back to get the struts replaced but I told them to call me and tell me what the price would be before they actually replaced them. They did the oil change and called me and said the struts would be upwards of $900, and I just didn't have that kind of money. I told them not to do it. Now, here's where it gets weird. I went to pick up my car and the inspection had a laundry list of issues that needed to be addressed, including replacing the valve cover gasket, sway bar bushings and link, axles, axle boots, and many other things. You know what wasn't listed? Needing to replace the struts. I inquired about this and the man behind the counter told me the struts were fine and didn't need to be replaced. I said the struts were listed in my first vehicle inspection from five months prior, and he told me the technician mistook them for the sway bar? What? How does that happen? He then told me the technician who looked at my car (apparently every time) was in training. So, you've just admitted that the person inspecting my vehicle is not qualified to properly inspect my vehicle? Thank God I said not to go ahead and replace the struts because I would've been out $900 for a repair I didn't need and still needing to spend well over $1000 to fix all this other stuff. Anyway, I took my car to a friend and he helped me get all the necessary parts and replaced them all for me. I paid him for it and all the parts were less than $400, and I paid him $100. I'll never come back here, and if you want quality service and want your car inspected by people who know what they're doing, I highly recommend you avoid this place and go somewhere else. read more

went for a simple tire replacement, they screwed up the valve placement twice, tire went flat bc of that TWICE in a week, huge waste of time & money, went to get it fixed by a local shop & they got it right the first time. do not go here. go to your local car shop instead. management also blames their employees for the messup when clearly it has to be a fault on management's part if it happened multiple times in a row. i feel bad for the workers here. read more

Absolutely never again, the incompetence is high. Needed two vehicles tires done, they said to make two staged appointments. Dropped off a tad earlier then the appointment, I think it was around 20 mins. Came back almost 2.5 hrs later for the other appointment and the first vehicle had not moved. They then tried to say it was first come first serve and appointments didn't matter, I said if that was the case I would of been here as soon as you opened. So we don't leave the second vehicle at it's appointment since the first hasn't been done yet, another 2.5 ish hours later they finally did the first and I could switch out the vehicles. The person at the counter called us up to complete the transaction, I said this other gentleman was ahead, he said no he is waiting for something else. He starts to pull us up in the computer then leaves, and is gone for ten or so minutes before someone else decides to take pitty on us and help. No idea if they guy just got up and quit or where he went since I didn't see him again. The second one luckily didn't take 5 plus hours to be done. Then it was like dire to come pick it up, two calls while trying to drive to pick it up. So to add to it, they don't fully assemble car one or two. Luckily I am smarter than the average bear and can finish their work. But to add to it, they don't know how to put the weights on the rim and had them rubbing the breaks, luckily again something I had to fix. Luckily not too much damage was done. read more

Dont waste your time and money at this pep boys thats managed by SHAUN WELLS. I went in for 2 new front tires 2 months ago and they already are getting bald, not completely but at an alarmingly fast rate. My front right today when i brought it in had 12 psi in it and was worse than the left. When i walked in and told Shaun about my problem he asked if i had an alignment done and/or got the roadside insurance thing, i said no to the roadside but noone asked anything about alinment cause i woulda said "yeah" knowing its important for new tires. They did an inspection to see whats going on and of course instead of owning up to their mistake of not offering or just testing it after they balanced it witch i think they did it wrong beacuse my old tiers never had issues with uneven tread or any problems. Not to mention, a month ago i took my car to 2 diffrent places just to see if they said the same thing cause they always be lieing. And they both did a full inspection and came to the same conclusion that my petal was bad along with some other small things that got fixed.. both places never said anything about my suspension, struts or control arm. This pep boys sent me my report of the car and said all of that was bad and thats why it is making the new tires get bad so quick. So he kinda blames me and the car for it happening, sheding the blame from them not followimg proper protocol. So i asked can i just get the new tires put on and he says no. Only if i get thoes 3 things fixed right then and there, then he will uphold my warentee witch was 900$ and i said no cause they shoulda fixed it for free because it all came from bad service and neglect.not to mention i dont want them workimg on my car again. They always seem understaffed so i dont blame the techs so much cause i know how it goes but if one of the techs fucks up, as a manager, you own up to it and fix the problem.And honestly if all of a sudden thoes 3 things are bad its probably from them doing a shitty job and sending me home then just deny and lie to get some money out of it. We purchased 4 new tires at Pep Boys in Indiana, then left for vacation to Florida. On the way, we had a TPMS system malfunction alarm. I attempted to call the Indiana store but couldn't get ahold of anyone. I took a shot and stopped at the nearest Pep Boys in Knoxville, TN, 30 minutes before the store closed. I was expecting them to brush it off and tell me they couldn't do anything due to the tires being installed in Indiana since they were about to close. I was pleasantly surprised when they offered to help and diagnose the issue. Very quickly, Jon found that the Indiana store put 1 wrong size tire on the front driver side- this was causing the malfunction. They kept the store open late, were extremely friendly while my kids were running around the store, and replaced the tire free of charge. To top that off, around 10a the next day, Jon called just to check in on the trip and make sure my vehicle was driving smoothly. (I still haven't received a return call from the Indiana store that put the tires on). Hats off to Jon and the crew in Knoxville. Definitely do not take your car here. First we were told our rear axle was broken but it would be ready same day. Then we got a call back saying it was misdiagnosed and that it was ready to be picked up. $900 later we pick it up only to have it completely leak out all of the differential within ten minutes. Argued for almost an hour after multiple trips back and forth. Finally got some money back and towed it away from this place. I had an appointment at 2 for a tire patch and they didn't touch my car until 4:20. I was there for 3 hours total for a service that should take an hour tops. They did end up giving my service for free because of how long it all took, which I appreciated, but I won't be going back. Update: I noticed my steering wheel started vibrating after they patched my tire. I called them and they said to come in next day and it wouldn't be a problem. They said I wouldn't have to wait as long this time. I got there and they said it was going to take a while. My husband called them and they told him that the first day I was there, their machine to balance tires was off. I was never told this until my husband had talked to them. I will absolutely never come back. This place is the worst. I am now at Firestone to fix what pep boys messed up on my car. read more

We took my husband's truck in to have the breaks checked because they were making noise. They determined that a pebble had gotten lodged between the break pad and rotor and cause damage. They replaced the rotors and breaks on the rear of the truck. They didn't put the truck in service mode before doing so and it ruined the break modulator system and now they are giving my husband a really hard time about getting it fixed. They wanted us to bring it back to them but my husband would rather the dealership fix it, obviously because pep boys doesn't know what they are doing. So now he has to wait on them to file a claim and quote from the service manager and the DM "it could take a while". We use his truck for work and this has put so much stress on us. I would NEVER go back to a pep boys. They are terrible!! read more

dropped off a single rim to have new tire mounted, 5 hours later was still leaning against stack where I left it, after I pointed this out, mounted in 10 minutes, put tire on backwards, charged $20 for roadside assist and $20 for lifetime balancing, without asking, I had specifically stated this was going to be a spare, TPMS threw errors 5 minutes after calibrating, took back to offer a chance to make right before leaving a negative review, said they would flip tire, fix tpms, and refund fees, flipped tire, calibrated tpms, did not refund fees, when tpms threw error again, they said I had to buy new tpms sensor at dealership, dealership explained the sensor was fine and car was simply unlevel from having 1 wheel of a larger size on it. I will definitely not buy my 4 new tires from them, and in this case literally had better luck with a dealership than this shop. read more

Take your vehicle anywhere else. After a $120 diagnostic fee they told me minimally I needed a new fuel pump which would cost me $1600. After having my vehicle towed to another shop it was fixed within 20 min because all I needed was a fuse and a new wire to my battery. I've received 7 emails asking for me to review my recent tire purchase. I've unsubscribed all 7 times and yet here we are! So here's my review... Bought the tires on a Monday, scheduled installation for the following Friday. Dropped the car off the night before so they could get it done first thing the next day. When I left the car, the employee checked stock and confirmed they had the tires, however the following morning I received a call letting me know the tires weren't there and it'd be a week before they would get them in stock. Nevermind the fact that I scheduled the installation nearly a week before. One would think they'd know I'm coming and have the tires ready, but anyways.... I get a call the following day saying the tires that weren't going to be available till the next week are now in stock. Fast forward, I leave the car with them again, they do what I imagine to be an adequate job of changing the tires and I head back down there for the 4th time to pick up the car only to be berated by a sales guy trying to sell me an alignment, a radiator flush, and some other kinda BS upsell. After declining for what seemed like ages I finally get my car and the new tires I purchased. They are black and round and so far seem to spin just fine. A friend and I were on a 10 hour drive from Nashville to Maryland and 2 hours in I ran over a nail and got a flat tire in our rental car. I called Pep Boys on Easter Sunday 25 minutes before close and they told us to come right in. They replaced the tire and had us in and out of there in 20 minutes. Staying later than they were scheduled on a holiday and getting us back on the road home. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I can't say enough good things about my experience. Avoid this "mechanic" at all costs. The level of incompetency on all fronts is just completely astounding. The employees here were continually misinformed, making empty promises about the repair of our car. After 4 days of the car being in their shop we drove away only to break down with the same problem again 20 minutes later. The manager, Nick, somehow considered this a satisfactory job and refused to take any kind of ownership for the situation. Do not waste your money like we did, they do not deserve a penny. I don't know if they don't want money the warranty said but very poor customer service and not very professional. DO NOT GO HERE. Don't give these scumbags any business. Would give zero stars if I could. Broke down in Knoxville with a suspected fuel pump issue, called pep boys because they were 15 minutes away. We were told it would be a 2 hour job, so we left the car in confidence that it would be ready. Found out they ordered the wrong part and we would have to get a hotel as it would be ready overnight. After a few days, they told us they had misdiagnosed the issue and said that a blown fuse was the problem instead. 20 minutes later, driving away from the shop, the car breaks down AGAIN with no fuel pressure. We were told by a competent mechanic that it was indeed the fuel pump. Pep boys claimed that since the car was running when it left their shop, they had done the job properly. Abysmal service, easily the worst mechanic experience I've ever had. read more

Looking at the other reviews I understand why some people are hesitant. My wife and I stopped here to get our brake pads done and of course they tried to sell us rotors and a brake fluid flush. The recommendation was based on rust on the inner rotors. Rust and metal are naturally present at any given time on a car. The rotors had no scoring and they were within specs. So am I upset, no. Their job is not only to repair but sell. Even if you walk through the counter they are trying to push some other item on you. So my advice, know what you're asking for and just say no. I did business with Pep Boys a few times in the past, but this time I was not too satisfied with the staff and service. I had called before I went down there to see how busy it was cuz I wanted to get four tires and alignment, they said come on in nobody's here right now. I said can I make an appointment and they said no we don't take an appointment just come on down. So I drove down there when I got there there was 4 other people that came in before me so the lady was snappy and said it would be awhile. I said I just called and they said to come on down they could get me in, the lady just was sort of Snappy again just said you can go wait in the waiting room now and I should have just left then but I drove aways to get there so I wanted to get the tires and Alignment done. I paid a lot of money for the tires and alignment and I think I waited three-and-a-half 4 hours to get them put on which I wasn't happy about. Brought my PT Cruiser in for a brake service as they were grinding and squealing. When I left, after paying over $500 for new rotors, pads, and rear adjustment and cleaning, etc., the brakes were still squealing and grinding. Unfortunately I thought that was just the new parts breaking in. 11 days in later in Myrtle Beach SC, the right side brakes came apart, seized up and almost caught fire. Luckily, I was right next to a Midas shop. They took me right in took the wheel off and the rotor, caliper were glowing red and the pads had melted. I called Nickie at PB in Knoxville. At 1st she wanted me to go to the nearest PB (150 miles away). $690 later I had new brakes and thankfully, no fire. The Midas tech (he was awesome) called Nikkie himself and emailed photos for warranty purposes, to her to confirm the destruction of the brake parts she had sold me 11 days earlier. Twice she didn't answer her phone when I called to ask about refunding my money. Unfortunately at this point, I had to replace my cell phone and couldn't call Pep Boys back until 8/22. When I reached Nikie today, she states she'll only approve the parts warranties if I bring the replaced brake parts to her in Knoxville, TN!! Seriously?? So, I'm now in Tallahassee FL, and she wants me to go back to the Midas store in Myrtle Beach, pick up parts that have long been thrown away, then drive back to Knoxville Tennessee!!!!. So here I am, a senior citizen, recently retired 1st responder, traveling across America in a motorhome (the PT is towed behind on a dolly, and boy, did they ever see me coming!! Now, I really don't think they replaced the original brakes at all! I know for a fact that I was billed for cleaning and adjusting the rear brakes and that was'nt done! Oh, Nikie offered me $30 to cover that!! Then, she very conveniently said my call was breaking up and hung up on me!!! The moral of this story is never, ever take your ride to Pep Boys, especially in Knoxville Tennessee, and go to any Midas shop instead. An expensive, tough lesson learned. read more

Gave me an estimate of repairs needed at over $1,000. I took my car to Firestone on Broadway for a thorough inspection. No repairs were needed. Pep Boys is running a scam on Centerline Drive. I stopped here after my low beam headlight went out on my 2013 Fiesta. I bought the bulb and attempted to replace it myself, but didn't have the correct tools. The guy behind the counter had no clue if they could do it. He looked it up and said "It will be a little more difficult, we will probably have to remove the bumper, so it will be $88" I laughed and said "To replace a light??" He nodded his head and I quickly turned around and left. I was furious! There was no way in the world I'm paying someone $88 to change a headlight when I know I can do it myself. The following day I went to my Dad's house and had the light replaced in 10 minutes tops. WITHOUT taking off the bumper. Please don't waste your money here! I took my 03 vw bug in this place for a check engine light problem and to have them change a headlight, they charged me 53 bucks to change the headlight and said the wires were bad and said it would probably blow again , before I got home it quit working, I went to look at it myself and the headlight was about to fall out ,they didn't even put it back in right, the wires on the main assembly were bare for some reason, was like that when I got it , got a assembly at a junkyard and fixed it myself, checked the light and it wasn't even blowed , went back for a tuneup because they said everything that was causing the check engine light to come on could be fixed with a tuneup , they told me the plug wires they had were bad and I would have to keep it overnight, I had a break light burned out so I asked if they could change it for me since they made me keep it overnight, I even had the bulb, they wanted to charge me 6 dollars so I changed it myself, I thought they might change it for free since they made me keep it overnight but they didn't, I got the car back and the next day it would barely run, so I took it back and they said it was a coil pack and charged me a fortune to fix it , it still didn't run right sometimes after that but I drove like that anyway , I'll never go back read more
