Probably the worst car repair shop experience of my life. We have been bringing all of our cars here for the past 15 years but never again. We bought 4 new tires from them about 3 months ago. Scheduling the service was a nightmare, I missed 2 days of work because they did not get to it on the day we made the appointment even though I dropped it off right after they opened. They didn't call to tell me it wouldn't be ready and there was no answer from repeated phone calls so I just had to go down there to find out that it would be another day. When I did get the car back, they tried charging $200 more than we were quoted and the car was all the sudden making a terrible noise (like it had no shocks or something) had to take it back 2 more times in the next few days and was told that it wasn't caused by anything they did but that they would take care of it. When we brought it in for the tire job, they said their alignment machine was down but that they had another shop they could take it to for that (also strange). They also told us they re-checked the alignment when we brought it back the first time. Fast forward to today and my 2 front, brand new, 3 month old tires are BALD! They did the alignment improperly if they did it all. We have been trying to bring it back to have the alignment checked for over a week now and finally today they said we could bring it in....same situation, no one contacted us all day and no one answered their phone. We went down there and they said they still hadn't been able to get it on the machine and just bear with them. We went back just before they closed and they said that the machine wasn't working and he pulled up our original receipt and said we weren't charged for the alignment originally so we should have known it wasn't done (even tho we were told TWICE that it had been done). Now we are going to have replace the 2 front tires only 3 months after buying them but are being told it's our problem. I really loved supporting this local business for years but now that it's been bought out they seem completely incompetent and uncaring. Update: we took it to Fisher tire the next day and they said it was one of the worst alignment jobs they had ever seen, and they didn't know how we were able to drive it at all. We got the problem taken care of there and will be giving them our business from now on, save yourself some headache and do not take your car to RT Clapp. They messed our car up and then tried to gaslight us about it. It is such a big contrast from the old management, and the way they used to do things, it's a shame. read more

I took my car to RT Clapp for an oil change and diagnostic checks. They sent me a list of things that needed to be service; brake flush; engine filter change; and transmission flush. I chose the break flush. when I came to pick up my car the manger told me that they could not get the key to go into the ignition switch. I told him that I never had that problem before. I could not start my car. I was very upset and the manger had the nerve to tell me that it was like that when I brought the car in, which was not true. If that was the case then how come it was not on the service list? He told me that he could try to fix it but that I would have to pay for the parts. Three days later still not fixed. I had to have my car tow to the dealership. On of top that I had black stuff on my tan carpet where the mechanic was trying to fix the ignition switch. Plus, there was a fresh large scratch on the passenger side of my car and he tells me that it was already there before I brought the car in, which was not true. This is the worst experience that I have ever had with a car shop. You drive your car in and have tow it out. read more

Wow! New owners are greedy, greedy, greedy. $1200 for a brake job on rear brakes only?? Are you kidding? No, not kidding... This is more than double what a comparable shop would charge (parts are less than $100 and they use the cheapest parts available). Also they have a standard list of repairs your car will need. (brake fluid flush, antifreeze flush, transmission flush, power steering flush, etc., you get the idea). A bunch of BS that costs your big $$$$. Stay away, far away from these people. read more

My wife had tires put on a few months ago and one of the tires blew. While trying to change it I couldn't get the lugs to budge. We broke down outside an auto parts store, they tried to help and even gave us free penetrating oil. I bought a better manual lug wrench and pulled as hard as I could. The lug broke off and the auto parts guys sat there and came up with the only answer. RT Clapp cross threaded the lugs. My wife had her car towed there and the next day they charged her for the repair and the parts because it was our fault. BTW they broke one off too, guess we had that one coming. My son has his first job after college in Knoxville and is living about 10 hours from home for the first time. He had an alternator problem during the week between Christmas and New Years and R.T. Clapp was recommended by a family friend there. A dealership blew off his problem and just replaced the battery. Luckily, he knew enough once he drove it away from there that he was able to get it to the shop where they very quickly diagnosed and repaired his car during that holiday week. They were very fairly priced and our whole family is thankful for their expertise and assistance. read more

Like the below review, the shuttle was convenient, but today I had an alternator replaced for $170. Clapp charged me $600. They were identical as I was right there when the new one came. Clapp took a whole day. BOA got it done in 1 1/4 hours. Same warranty. Clapp always insists on running their $160. "diagnostics" fee just to open the hood and never really told me anything else. I initially went to RT Clapp because they are AAA certified. I took my car there for about 4 years, and each time the experience was worse and worse. I kept going because their prices are always within my budget, and they offer a taxi service when you drop off your car so you can still go to work and they'll call and come pick you up with it's done. Overall the customer service has always been sub-par. The receipts they give you when the car is completed is extremely sparse and do not offer any specific recommendations for your car, or anything specific that they found wrong with your car. It only ever has exactly what I've brought the car in for. As an aside, due to the neighborhood the shop is located in, you cannot tow any cars to this lot after hours and leave it there overnight. The last straw for me, though, was when I took my car in to get my transmission fluid checked. I had tried to do it myself, and had taken it to Valvoline for them to check it, but neither of us could open the valve to take a look. This has been the #1 problem with my specific make/model car (2007 Suzuki Forenza), so I wanted to at the very least get the level checked, and if needed, top off the transmission fluid. I drop my car off, explain to them to please check my transmission fluid and run a diagnositc on my range sensors. They call me 45 mins later, say the car is ready for pick up. I come by pick it up, look at the receipt, and they've only charged me for labor. They then informed me that at first I need to completely replace the transmission. I asked them what was wrong specifically with the transmission, and they said that they don't do any transmission work and that my car was "too new" (it's a 2007) and they couldn't run a diagnostic test with their equipment. I asked them why I wasn't notified of this when I made the appointment to bring my car in 2 days before, or when I handed over the keys to the front desk earlier that morning. They then proceeded to tell me the name of a shop down the street that does do "really good" transmission work, although if RT Clapp has no way of inspecting said inspection work, I'm not sure how they can vouch for a transmission store's work. read more
