Pepboys Landover Hills opened late at 8:15. I have an appointment at 8 o'clock the technicians I'm not scheduled to show up until after 9 o'clock. What kind of service is this location providing also I was told that I had to pay $10 because they didn't have the correct phone in the computer system. WORST AUTO EXPERIENCE EVER. should be zero stars. my car had overheated and appeared to be a coolant leak and was looking to tow somewhere. i had called to different auto shops to check availability around 3-4 pm, this pep boys location told me they would at least look at my car that same day. this was the main reason i came here. the next day comes and waited and never received an update to my car, so i called several times to inquire and was given vague answers. near the end of day, i called and was told they fixed it and was letting it run for an hour and should be ready around then (6pm or so) and would be given a call. however, i never got a call, and there phone line was dead so I could not confirm if that car was good to go. the next day i called in the AM to ask what the status of my car and was told they had not worked on it and was waiting for my "approval" to work on it; which was a shock and disappointing given the previous conversation. from there, again never called once this entire time, i called around noon and was told my car was ready to be picked up. i picked it up, drove to work (about 20 min drive) and noticed my coolant reservoir had depleted quite noticeably. when i drove home (another 20 mins) it was almost empty. it became clear i was gushing coolant and the leaking issue was worse. see attached pictures. i was clearly misled and learned this location was backed up with other work and there car work skills are bad. read more

Avoid this location. Came in on a Sunday morning at 11:15 to get two tires replaced and an alignment. I was assured that my car would be next. At 12:30 I go and look out in the parking lot and my vehicle has not moved from the original spot. Multiple bays and technicians, but nobody seems to be actually working. Tires I wanted were $75 a piece, but after mounting balancing costs were included and the alignment the quote was $516. When I asked for my key back a technician came from the garage and told me that my car would be next. I said "yeah, you guys told me that almost an hour and a half ago." Avoid. read more

I WENT TO THIS STORE JUNE 28,2025 FOR A/C SERVICE. NEVER NEVER NEVER GO TO THIS STORE if you have anyone that does not understand car repair in depth these people will absolutely try to rip you off. DONT LET GRANDMA GO HERE. This is an honest account of a business tarying to simply rip as much money from me as possible. went there for an a/c repair. They told me that they had to replace the a/c system BLOWER MOTOR AND RESISTER AND CHARGE THE FREON for 1000.00 plus dollars. I said no thanks and they immediately lowered the price to 800.00 plus dollars. i told them that the air wouldn't work if the resister for the blower motor was bad and was very commonly the only problem. They said they would try that and see if that would work. I also told them to check voltages on the a/c components instead of just "swapping parts". They said they would check. I agreed and waited for 4 plus hours. Nothing was done and I told them give me truck back because I had an appointment and I would pay the diagnostic fee. They said the resister just came in and "we can change it in a few minutes for you. I said ok. That was a mistake. they said that they changed the resister and tried to get me to pay a bill for 700.00 which included changing the blower motor. THE PROBLEM IS THEY NEVER CHANGED THE MOTOR. THEN I WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED BUT I WAS "IN A HURRY" SO THEY COULDNT. I AGAIN STATED YOU ARE GIVING ME A BILL AND EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR WORK YOU NEVER DID. I asked the mechanic what he did and he said he hit the dash and the blower started working. Eventually I paid 400.00 because they said they changed the resister on the a/c blower motor. I don't know if they changed it or not but the object seemed to be to charge a certain dollar amount whether the problem was fixed or not. IT WAS NOT FIXED. I later checked it myself and it was a loose connector on the blower motor. THEY FIXED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AND I PAID 400.00. I wrote the BBB and am awaiting a response. I WANT MY 400.00 BACK. Please avoid. I just left from there after trying to get my car back for a service they haven't performed yet. They're saying that I need to pay a fee despite my car being in warranty with them because I recently got a service from them that I think was bad work or did not address the actual issue. My car was literally sitting on the side of the lot not being worked on. Furthermore, I've seen them have a lady wait 5 hours just to say they can't work on her car because it requires other repairs. I've seen a man demand his car back but it was sitting there several hours with no updates despite clerks saying it'll happen soon. I was driving one day and noticed my tire felt weird. After getting out of the car I noticed that my rear tire was quickly deflating. I was on my way to pick my son up and I had to make it there. While driving very carefully, I called Pep boys to ask if they would be able to take walk-ins because my tire was going down as I spoke. I was told that I could bring it in and that it shouldn't be too long of a wait. After picking my son up (all within 5 minutes), I drove to pep boys (2 mins away) and I was greeted by everyone with smiles and they were all so willing to help. I felt confident that they would handle my emergency and waited. It took about a half hour and I was out of there in no time. They were very kind, attentive and professional and even checked my brakes and put air in my other tires. I wanted to share my good experience because I know most times people are quick to share negative ones. I had left my car at 2 PM. They told me I would be able to pick up my car at 4:15 after alignment but then 20 minutes before I could pick up the car they said the inner Tie rod was broken but I had recently drive the car and everything was OK but then I told them to leave my car alone and put it in the parking lot. I called my mechanic to check it he fixed it, but there is a marking where they put something and they broke it. My experience at the Landover Hills, Maryland store was nothing short of horrible. First, I had a 10am appointment to drop my car of for diagnostic and repair. I arrived at 9:45am and Reggie told me to have a seat and he would assist me in 10 minutes. Other customers started to come and Reggie proceeds to process their vehicle in for service. I approached the counter and asked him if the system was back up again and he became frustrated and said he forgot that I was waiting. After waiting and waiting and waiting some more. The other customer service representative told me that they would not be able to service my vehicle because the mechanic called out. They proceeded to make an appointment at the Langley Park Store. We brought in our car three months ago because of a check engine light. The assistant on staff told us to come back because the scanner was not able to pull up a diagnostic report at the time. Today, we came back after setting an appointment in the morning just to have the car scanned and diagnosed. When we arrived we were told that this location no longer had a scanner because somebody picked it up and took it from the store. The gentleman at the counter then told me that the only way they would check the car is if we paid $89 to run an engine diagnostics. I asked about getting the code scan elsewhere and he said that the code alone would not be enough. The shop would only honor their own $89 diagnostic. I informed the gentleman that we have extended warranty protection and that we would want to use it to pay for the services. This representative then told me that we would have to call the extended warranty company to straighten that out, and that he had nothing to do with that. In other words, he had no intention of honoring our extended warranty protection. My battery was replaced two years ago and the battery protection plan was added. The battery came with a three-year warranty. My car's battery stopped holding a charge. The autozone test found the battery to be bad. I scheduled a 9:30 a.m. appointment 30 minutes away from my house to have the battery replaced at 6825 Annapolis Rd, Landover Hills, MD 20784. I called in the morning and they said that they do not have batteries on site but that they can test the battery and if it's bad they will request a delivery while I wait. I arrived on time and waited about 20 minutes until someone got to me. They indicated that there's a two-hour wait for someone to conduct a 30-second battery check (something Autozone did right away), something that I thought a pre-scheduled appointment would avoid. The waiting area is a small corner room with a few chairs (no water or coffee available) and the building is shared with a rental car company. After about 1:45 hours after the drop-off time, they called me to say that the battery showed low amps and needed to be charged first before a determination was made which would take another two hours. I waited for the battery to be charged and a little later they informed me that the battery was bad and needed to be replaced. Mario at the store told me that they don't have the right H4 battery available as they don't sell the Champion brand anymore and they can't order an alternative for me. He instructed me to call other Pep Boys stores in the area one by one to see who has my battery available. I called several other stores and they all instructed me to go back to the same store that refused to help me out. I left about 4.5 hours after arriving with no resolution and with Mario telling me that they're not able to help me replace my battery under warranty. The bottom line is that the Pep Boys experience is not worth the cost, wait, and the hassle. Avoid Pep Boy and go to Autozone for immediate testing and warranty replacement without a need to take off a day or two from work. I took my mothers Volvo XC90 to the Landover Hills branch of Pepboys, the vehicle was in need of rear rotors and pads. the location was undergoing a move or construction. I was very concerned, while I was waiting for the brake inspection I started reading the reviews, they were really bad so I decided to watch them as they removed the tires. I was assigned a technician by the name of Samuel who expertly removed the tires quickly and he went to get his Assistant Manager Bryant who has been with pepboys for years. He took the time to show me the damage on the rear rotor and explained the cost. The Assistant Manager even lent me his iPhone charger so I could entertain myself while I waited. I felt that he cared about my experience. Sometimes that's all you need to changed your point of view. Went to this place to get my power steering pump replaced after I had pulled it, but didn't have time to finish taking it off and replacing it. Family drama. Had it towed to the shop on a aThursday. They called back, saying I needed to have my brakes and rotors replaced. I said no because I had just done it. They also said the bolt joining my axle to the transmission was gone and showed me a picture. They must have thought I was stupid because the hole was as clean as someone having just removed it. But I did need the brake system bled, so I asked them to please do that, not replace the brakes. Called me the next day to tell me the car was ready. At check out, they said they'd done what was asked, and I asked if they replaced the bolt they took out. They said they didn't do that even though it was there when it left my house. Well, I got in my car and started driving around the parking lot, my car (that drove like a smooth, comfy lazyboy) was shivering, shaking and rattling and the brake system hadn't been bled. My brakes were longer than before I had put it in that shop. WTF. I got out and stopped my husband and asked him to take it for a spin around the parking lot to make sure I wasn't crazy. No, it wasn't right. He went in to get the guy, and they drove it around. He gave some bullshit excuse and said the work was guaranteed. What forking work? I guess they forgot to bleed the brakes because they thought they were going to get to replace it all. Well, dingle dumb a----, they'd already been done. That's why I needed them bled. My boyfriend went in for a simple oil change for his Audi around 2 pm on Tuesday. We were stuck at the store until 7 pm because they drained his transmission instead of doing a oil change. They even took his car on a drive around the store even while his transmission fluid wasn't in the car. I put my car in the to have coil springs assembly installed. Appointment was at 8:00 a.m. to start the work. They called me at 7:30 and that my car was ready. I pick-up my car at closing time. Getting in the vehicle there was grease on the door sill and floor mat. Driving the car home, now it was pulling to the left and vibrating . Back into my drive-way, an inner wheel well panel fell out. The next morning I carried the car back to correct the errors. I waited from 11:00 a.m. until 6 :00 p.m. closing time. At that time they informed me that the car was still pulling to the left an d if I could bring the car back Monday. At that point I took my car and left. It took 3 hours for a tire rotation/balance??? Made an appointment for 9am on a Sunday, but I was late and got there about 9:30. After waiting 1.5-2 hours I asked about my car and it was up on the lift. After about another hour or so I asked again and it was ready. However, I do not know how long it WAS ready for. The paper work and keys were just sitting in the "ready" pile with other cars. If I didn't go ask, don't know how longer I would have been siting there. They had 2 people working the front and they were both focusing on new customers and other work instead of one of them focusing on checking out customers who's cars were ready. And while the guy was checking me out the system sent the "ready" text message. Why wasn't that sent when the work was actually complete by whomever put my paperwork/keys in the "ready" pile. Dropped off my car for vacuum leak test. The next day they called me and told me I had to make some repairs. The repairs they were suggesting had beed done 5 months before. I asked for the results to be written on my bill, so I could take it back to the other shop since their repairs were not good. They hesitated to write it on the bill. In the end, the other customer service guy handed me my keys and told me to have a good day. This happened today December 31st, 2020. They just used the scanner to clear the check engine light and guessed on what the problem could be. The test I asked for was not performed; At least I didn't pay. I went and pulled the part myself and they told me the mechanic won't be available until the next week. Me and a friend put the replacement alternator on ourselves in their garage. Went to this PepBoys to have a Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor replaced on a Friday, the very next day the TPMS light came back on. Came back on Sunday and was told that they will need to install a different type of sensor, I said ok call me when the part come in. Never received a call, I called them on Thursday and they said the part was in. Went to have it installed Thursday. Went I got back in my car, the TPMS light was on. Went back in and they told me to drive it around for at least 20 minutes. Drive all the way home with the light on. Came back the next day for a full refund because obviously they didn't fix anything, and they told me that I would need to give them their part back before I can be refunded, and they don't have my original part to put back on the car. So I would have to go somewhere else to get the TPMS replaced, and bring their old part back before I can get my money back smh. I received a coupon through email regarding a $19.99 oil change special the company was running prompting me to set an appointment for 7pm today. Upon arriving to the Pep Boys, I was greeted by John who had no record of the appointment I set. He asked me to reschedule because they were closing in an hour. I told him no because the appointment was available online. John walks to the back and comes back to tell me "luckily" the service guy isn't doing anything. At the end of my oil change, my total comes to $27. I reminded John of the coupon and he tells me it's that price with taxes and fees. Upon getting my receipt I see that he charged me $22 for the oil change. I ask him about this and he tells me that I was supposed to show him the coupon if I wanted the deal DESPITE me telling him about it twice. When I asked him why he didn't let me know before charging me, he responds saying that it's originally $44 so I still got a deal. I once again mention the coupon and he tells me I have to come back tomorrow if I want my "little $3 difference". At this point I asked to speak to a manager after giving him several choice words that I will not place in this email. He then walks to the back and I wait. He comes back after a few minutes not even acknowleging me or my request. I asked him where the manager was and he says "I already told you to come back tomorrow, you already getting a discount anyway". Once again I go off on him. I then see another person behind a closed area peeping over. I asked John who he was he tells me he is the parts manager. I asked him to get the guy (who I later find out is named George) and he tells me George can't help me. I asked him to call the guy and when he refused I walked to the back to knock on the door. Just to explain this set up, the top part of the enclosed area is open and not one time does George walk out to deescalate the situation when he hears us going back and forth. Even if you are the "parts manager", isn't it your responsibility to deal with escalating conflicts that occur on your shift?When George finally comes out he tells me he couldn't hear us which is a lie since I saw him peeking over the glass several times from the office he was in. Very long wait times and unfriendly staff. Got my tires here a while ago, had to wait hours longer than expected and never got as much as a smile or happy vibe from anyone there. The waiting room supposedly had coffee and Wi-Fi...both of which were broken. Months later, I needed to use the free balance and rotation that comes if you buy tires here. The staff was even more unfriendly. Overheard the techs saying how they were going to wait and see if any paying customers came in before they would start on me. Ultimately, the work got done within an hour and my tires seem to be balanced properly, but the experience didn't leave me feeling good or confident about their work. I had to come to this place because the Wal-Mart wouldn't install my new tires for a dumb reason. Pep Boys seemed to be a decent place but I had an issue because they said the previous person/whoever incorrectly bolted my tire and because of that Pep Boys ended up breaking the bolt. I asked them why they didn't tell me the nut was incorrectly screwed onto the bolt before removing it and they had no answer. I said so it's basically your word against no ones and the guy said "yep". It was just very poor customer service as I think anyone would have issue with your car being completely fine and then someone breaking something and blaming someone else. read more

I had a great experience here, in June 2014 getting my tire patched after picking up a nail on my Friday evening commute. All of the gas station repair shops were closed but luckily Pep Boys stays open later than 7 pm on week nights. I was processed after about 20 minutes and out of there in just over an hour, despite the fact that several people were ahead of me. To top it all off, my service was free because I signed up for their rewards/loyalty points program which allows for free tire patches and brake inspections! Not bad! Good afternoon, I hope this email finds you well, I wanted to leave a review on my service from 02/20/2022. I took my 2007 Chevy Cobalt LS in for a whole Tune-up [ oil change, fluid fill up; etc. ] & for an alignment on my vehicle. I was very dissatisfied with my service. I arrived at the shop at about 11:40AM and did not leave until about 2PM. I understand some people had an appointment and I was accommodated; but what left me unsatisfied aside from time was the service. My windshield fluid was not refilled nor was I told there was none in stock when I requested it. Also, as far as my alignment; it is still pulling towards the left. After my vehicle was finished being worked on; I made my payment and left. Once leaving, I noticed my alignment was still off; my brakes were making noise (which it was not making before I brought it into the shop), & there was a loud noise coming from the driver side tires; I called the shop and they told me to bring it in to get it checked out. I returned by 5pm just to be told the man who works on the alignments had left for the day... I brought my vehicle back in on 02/21/22 in the morning around 9AM to get it looked at. Once arriving at the shop, my vehicle was seen by a mechanic; who said himself; that the alignment couldn't have been done; being as though I needed a new lower control arm on the driver side... I just paid about $250 almost [$130 for an alignment; which clearly wasn't done properly because of the part that needs to get fixed...] I had also called the Pep Boys of Laurel & they quoted a price of $100 for the alignment; so I wanted to know why at this location it is about $30 more? Also today 2/22/22 my check engine light came on first thing in the morning; as I said before bringing it to the shop I did not have a check engine light on; nor were my brakes making a noise or any noises coming from vehicle; quiet honestly. I stopped by the shop to see if I could get it looked at and was told it would be a $100 diagnostic fee. I really want my money back from my alignment; the services were clearly not done properly; & for a mechanic to say that to me; makes me not trust the fact that anything was done well on my vehicle... Ronald, a technician, overheard my conversation and followed me outside to see what the problem was. Came in for two issues. 1.) Needed a flat tire PATCHED. 2.) Check REAR brakes and provide an estimate. After 1.5 hrs, the flat tire was plugged NOT patched. Two completely different types of tire repair. Also, the tech checked the front brakes NOT the rear brakes. An hour later I get my estimate. The last two times I was here, after they were done, my vehicle was parked in the parking lot UNLOCKED. This is no gated community. Vehicles can have hundreds to thousands of dollars of items inside. I took my car to this location for routine maintenance and I also informed them I was having an issue with the steering. I specifically asked them to check it out, that it might be something as simple as needing power steering fluid. When I picked up the car I was told the steering was fine and so was the power steering fluid level. I was shocked to hear that and continued to have steering issues when I left. I brought my car to the Nissan dealership today to have them check it out. Apparently I have VERY LITTLE power steering fluid AND a leak in the power steering hose. Seriously Pep Boys!?!? Do not waste your time going to this location. If I could give them a quarter of a star I would. To set expectations: when you arrive no one will acknowledge you, after waiting in line for way too long (hopefully you'll pick the right line) they'll treat you as if you're inconveiniencing them. Then they'll give you an unrealistic time to expect the service to be done, in my case 30 mins for an oil change, and when you inquire on the status of your vehicle an hour later they'll rudely inform you that it's still in the spot you parked it in when you first arrived. And yes I did make an appointment. You'll be way better off gong to jiffy lube .4 miles down the road where your car will be serviced by nice people within 20 mins. read more
