They get one star because they actually changed the battery (which is the work we requested). However, they run a shady business. We purchased a service online, then when we went to pick up the car the next day (after us calling to find out if they were done with the work - they never called to let us know the work was finished) they added a mysterious "extra time" charge that no one could explain, nor quantify. The manager on duty had a hands-up attitude because she didn't work the prior day and the mechanic that added the charge wasn't in. So because she couldn't explain the charge she told us we would have to pay in full or we couldn't get our car. We asked them to figure out a way to explain the charge to us. Perhaps another mechanic on duty could take a look? Another mechanic looked at the car, said the extra charge shouldn't be there. They weren't able to remove the charge from the bill without deleting all charges, then recharging us. We waited another 15 minutes for them to generate another bill. Now with the TPMS light bring on constantly and Pep Boys not knowing why, I decided to take the car to the Mitsubishi dealership. They have now found that one of the sensors that we're supposed to be on tire 4 is now on tire 3 and that tire 4 has a new sensor and that is why the light is on because it can't communicate with the system. These sensors have ID #s that can be tracked by the dealer. Did Pep Boys think I would never find out?! The ONLY garage to ever touch this car was the Pep Boys in Lindenhurst. So now I have to pay 115 dollars to Mitsubishi because that new sensor is not under warranty. This Pep Boys switched out my sensor without me knowing or telling me and now I have to pay the price. NEVER GO TO THIS PEP BOYS. THEY ARE LIARS AND UNETHICAL. I am going to inform the Better Business Bureau about this store and this situation. read more

I would give a zero if i could. Found a fuel line leaking on my car Saturday afternoon. Knowing that pep boys work on cars on Sunday and i desperately needed the car on Monday i called to see if they could fix it. They said no problem. Get there and the guy says there is a 3 hour wait. I said no big deal i will leave it with them. At 530 i called they said they didn't get to it that it will be checked out Sunday morning. Still no big deal. 1pm Sunday i called to see what's up. The guy said there is only one guy who does fuel lines and he was finishing up another car. He call back at 5 said the guy didn't get to my car that it will have to wait till Monday but will be the first car in. Nothing i could do so go ahead. Got a call at 12 pm Monday. Guy says he was sorry that they don't stock that part that i would have to take it to the dealer. Needless to say i exploded. I never heard of a so called mechanic that wasn't able to go to a dealer to get a part and fix a car. Lesson learned never will i go back to this mechanic. read more

Normally I have some horrid experiences at this location. So as a general I will usually avoid going to pep boys for service.. On New Years eve I bought new tires for my Chrysler. Last night the side wall blew out on one of them.. They honored the on line appointment I set up, They honored the tire warranty, and had me in/out within a half hour. Could not have been more accommodating! I went in there this morning for my 8am appointment thinking I'd be there all day...I was out by 10am. They found something additionally wrong with my car that could have caused me a serious problem down the line had I not got it fixed when I did. The technician took me into the shop and showed me exactly what was wrong and why it could have been potentially dangerous. They could have easily just told me and made me take their word for it, but went out of their way to help me understand what was going on. I was working with limited funds for the additional repair and the service counter girl went out of her way to make sure the prices for parts and labor were reasonable so that I could afford it. You'd think a chain store would be cold and uninviting but I've honestly received better service here than I have had going to the local private mechanics. You guys have earned yourself a repeat customer. Thank you so much!!! read more

I normally write reviews to warn people when service is awful, but I think it is equally important to write reviews when service excels. I started my quest to purchase shocks for my 74 Blazer at the Hicksville location. The parts manager informed me that they did not have the parts we needed, but the store in Lindenhurst had them. He called over and let them know I was coming. When I arrived, I was helped by Ariel. He was eager to help and knowledgeable. He had the parts we were holding, but continued to show us alternative parts that we could use, as we were unsure if the shocks were the right size when comparing to the shocks we took off. Unsure the size of the lift on the truck, we had multiple options. He went back to the stock room several times to make sure we saw all the options. He made his recommendation, but to assure us, he asked if we wanted one of the mechanics opinion. He proceeded to get a mechanic, how opined and confirmed our choice. Ariel was excellent! After getting home, we noticed that one of the shocks was missing parts. We called the store, Ariel told us he could get the part and replace it. I called the next day and spoke with the manager (as Ariel was off). Manage, Raymond, was provided great assistance and was able to help solve our issue in the easiest manor. Although the Lindenhurst store is a hike for me and not the closest Pep Boys, I would go back in a heartbeat. The entire experience reaffirmed why I shop there. read more

The Lindenhurst location is the place to go. All the staff and managers make you feel welcome, they totally tell it to you straight. All repairs are done great and in good time. Everyone is very knowledgeable. Location is well kept. I had to go to the Bay Shore location recently because Lindenhurst's NYS Inspection machine was down. I ordered 4 black rims to be installed on my fiance's car as a gift for Christmas, the installation date was scheduled online for 12/24/16 at 8:00am. When I arrived I was informed that there were no black rims delivered to the store.... Well, that wasn't going to be a good look for me on Christmas, so I explained my situation to the managers, Raymond and Nandawattie. They quickly located the nearest rims, which happened to be in Paramus New Jersey, and next thing I knew, Raymond was on his way to go pick them up and bring them back to the store to be installed. I had the car back with the rims installed by 12:30pm.. AMAZING!! A very long story... very short, Raymond and Nandawattie went above and beyond to complete my order. I stopped into Pepboys and they not only had what I needed in stock but provided excellent customer service. I was dissatisfied with pep boys customer service. I order my parts on line to save time, then I went to the store to pick them up. When I get to the store I had to wait for help; only to find out they did not have the parts available. There was no apologies, and the cashier had to call to see if another store had the parts. This is not the first issue I have had with this store, but it was the last. I resolved my issue by going to Auto-zone down the highway and purchased the parts. read more

Do NOT use the service department there! I took my car in for unexpected repairs and have never been treated so poorly. Half way through a $1,300 job, the man who claimed to be the service manager told me that he had decided to not finish the job and for me to pick up my car immediately. When I asked if there was someone else who could help me, his excuse was that he was having a bad day because eight other customers had yelled at him that day. Unfortunately, with the extreme cold of last weekend, the battery in my car completely died. It was Valentines Day and I found myself at Pep Boys. It seems I wasn't the only one with the issue, as the place was packed. I explained to Chris that I had to be at work later that day and really needed my car back in time. He said he would do his absolute best and absolutely exceeded expectations. I had my car back an hour and a half before what I asked for! So this is my experience today, and it's not a very happy one. I went to PepBoys in Lindenhurst to have my headlights changed on my car. One keeps going off, and because of this, I had gotten stopped and issued a ticket for it. I called ahead to find to find out if they carried he bulbs, and was told they did. At no time during this conversation, was I told that certain models they "did not touch" as the clerk now said. I went in and sat for over two hours for them to get done. I don't mind waiting, but when I paid I realized that my bill was low. I asked the clerk to check to make sure that they fixed the right thing (my headlights). He assured me they did, and signed my fix-it ticket, stating that as well, only to find out when I got home that they didn't, and they fixed my parking lights instead. I called and he said to come back in. Went in and he said they cant fix it because they don't fix Lexuses headlights because its complicated. Why have me waste my time? No wonder people don't trust people who work on cars. Shame on you PepBoys! You tube has instructions to change a bulb, and your establishment can't? Liars! read more

Came in on a Saturday. Needed 2 tires and an oil change. Got the tires but when it came to the oil change, it never happened.... something to do with the drag plug that they couldn't get off....REALLY !!! Long story short.... In paying my bill, they (the female manager) never said they didn't do the oil change. The only communication they have in this store is not to the customers but to themselves. The female manager thought it was more important to chat with her co-workers then to call me when the car was done....good thing I was in the store and went up to the counter. When I realized they never did the oil change I called the next day and the female manger was rude, arrogant and unpleasant. When I asked her "what is she going to do for me"... she said nothing. Beware- Pepboys has two different prices for the same parts. If you bring your car in for a repair and it needs a part, Pepboys parts pricing is 45% higher if you have a repair done then if you purchase that SAME PART at their parts counter. WTF is up with that. I was told by the parts counter person and by a service writer that it is "corporate policy" and they can't do anything about it.. I have had work done there before and never questioned the parts price. I just found out about this issue by accident or it would have gone unnoticed. Their service personnel are very nice, so this complaint is not directed at them. If this policy is truly set by corporate then it need to be addressed.. Why should we be paying almost twice the price for parts that can be purchased anywhere including their own in house parts store for much less money, and keep in mind these are cheaper "Private Label" parts-not name brand. They're making even more profit at the over the counter price then a parts store selling the same name brand part.. read more
